  • C# UDP Socket taking time to send data to unknown IP

    Hi. i am sending data to UDP socket using this code Socket udpClient = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Dgram, ProtocolType.Udp); IPEndPoint ipEndPoint = new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Parse(obj.destAddress), obj.destPort); byte[] buf = new byte[obj.length]; Array.Copy((byte[])obj.data, buf, obj.length); int n = udpClient.SendTo(buf, ipEndPoint); udpClient.Close(); this code works fine when IP exists in current network, but it takes 3-5 seconds when I send data to unknown IP address. This causes main application to hang for 3-5 seconds.. What could be the reason behind this problem..

  • Updating table takes very long time

    Hi all, I have a table in MsSQL Server 2008 (SP2) containing 30 millios of rows, table size 150GB, there are a couple of int columns and two nvarchar(max) columns: one containing text (from 1-30000 characters) and one containg xml (up to 100000 characters). Table doesn't have any primary keys or indexes (its is a staging table). So atm I am running a query: UPDATE [dbo].[stage_table] SET [column2] = SUBSTRING([column1], 1, CHARINDEX('.', [column1])-1); the query is running for 3 hours (and it is still not completed), which I think is too long. Is It? I can see that there is constant read rate of 5MB/s and write rate of 10MB/s to .mdf file. How can I find out why the query is running so long? The "server" is i7, 24GB of ram, SATA disks on RAID 10. Many thanks!

    I have a login page which will log a user into my webapp based on their facebook login details. I then create a session to remember who they are. What I want to know is, should I be creating and/or checking the facebook credential on every single page of my webapp, or should I simply use the session I create at the beginning to login? For example, once they have logged in, I would like to allow them to post a message onto their own facebook wall from my app. Should I check the login credentials before they can post by recreating the facebook object, or should I simply use the stored login details already in my session and use that to post to their facebook wall?

  • Update Multiple Tables at a Time - SQL Server/T-SQL

    I have two tables, Customer and CustomerPhone. Single record in Customer can have multiple CustomerPhone records. As you see in the image below, Phone and Fax resides in CustomerPhone table whereas the rest of the fields resides in Customer table. If user want to edits a customer record, obviously i will have to update the record in Customer table and at least two records from CustomerPhone (Phone and Fax). I could write two update statements, one Update customerPhone and the second update Customer table. Is there a better solution?

  • Oracle: delete suddenly taking a long time

    Hi We have a feed process which runs every day of the year. As part of that we delete every row from a table (approx 1 million rows) every day, repopulate it using 5 different stored procedures and then commit the transaction. This is the only commit statement that we call. All of a sudden the delete has started takign about 2 hours to complete. The delete is also very simple (delete from T_PROFILE_WORK) This has worked perfectly well for the past year, but in the past week i have noticed this issue. Any help on this is greatly appreciated Thanks Damien

  • executing php cURL script for long time without changing php.ini settings

    Scenario I have a old blog on blogger that contains thousands of images and posts, i have already imported the posts from blogger to wordpress using their import service (which does not import images) now i want to write a php cURL script that will download all the images off my old blogger blog to wordpress. Problem I have already written a script that goes through all the posts and find the image links of blogger and download the links recursively and store them local to wordpress installation but the problem is that the script stops if its taking longer than max_execution_time which is generally set to 30 secs. Now i dont want to change setting in php.ini file. Is there some way that i can keep my script executing for that long or some other alternative.... like executing in batch or something else... Reason for not changing php.ini settings is that i want to release this script as opensource plugin for wordpress, and not many have access to their php.ini file on the server and and many don't like changing settings for just one script that might run just once.   • Select calls seems to not time out.

    HI Folks, I have a threaded C++ program where up to three threads are calling select on a three separate socket descriptors waiting for data to become available. Each thread handles one socket and adds it to the readfds with a timeout of 300 seconds. After select returns if there is data available I'm calling recv to read it. Is there anything that I need to be aware of with winsock and threads because for some reason after a number of hours the select calls all seem to be not timing out. Can a multi threaded program select from a number of threads without issue? I know that I should have one thread listening to all three sockets however that would be a large change for this app and I'm only looking to apply a bug fix. cheers, Martin.

For those that can't be bothered to read the article, the background is this: ....I set out to develop questions that can identify this kind of developer and came up with a class of questions I call "FizzBuzz Questions" named after a game children often play (or are made to play) in schools in the UK. An example of a Fizz-Buzz question is the following: Write a program that prints the numbers from 1 to 100. But for multiples of three print "Fizz" instead of the number and for the multiples of five print "Buzz". For numbers which are multiples of both three and five print "FizzBuzz". SO I decided to test myself. I took 5 minutes in C++ and 3mins in c#! So just for fun try it and post your timings + language used! However some of the values the API returned are "US/Pacific", "US/Eastern" and apparently don't match any of the Olson timezones in Rails 2.3.2. Can anyone shed some light on this?   • Why doesn't TextBlock databinding call ToString() on a property whose compile-time type is an interf

    This started with weird behaviour that I thought was tied to my implementation of ToString(), and I asked this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2916068/why-wont-wpf-databindings-show-text-when-tostring-has-a-collaborating-object It turns out to have nothing to do with collaborators and is reproducible. When I bind Label.Content to a property of the DataContext that is declared as an interface type, ToString() is called on the runtime object and the label displays the result. When I bind TextBlock.Text to the same property, ToString() is never called and nothing is displayed. But, if I change the declared property to a concrete implementation of the interface, it works as expected. Is this somehow by design? If so, any idea why?   • Strange problem with ie6 messing up layout, and fixing byitself some time after loading

    We have a big ie6 layout problem with a newly launched website: in the header in our homepage, we have a coda-slider, and apparently its messing upt the wole layout of the front page. I have been looking at float and height problems but cannot seem to solve it. Also, the most strange part is that if you wait a while after loading, the layout "fixes itself". Help! The url is the following (without the spaces, sorry) w w w . r e - c r e a r t . c o m Edit: update, it sounds crazy, but if you press control and use the mouse wheel (as if you were zooming in /out in a modern browser, although ie6 doesnt do that) the layout fixes as well. Please help, I am going crazy.

However, take into consideration that the platform is still not ready. It has bugs and feature-requests that should be fixed. Until they are, you are better off staying with Stack Exchange as long as you can. Of course, it is in your best interest to participate heavily in the 'meta discussion' that takes place at Shapado.com and vote on the features and bug fixes that you want.
