• nvidia on ubuntu 10.10: switching dvi socket

  i have ubuntu 10.10 x86_64 with nvidia 9800 gt and nvidia driver version 270.41.06 my video card has two DVI sockets, but i only use single monitor configuration. Now, i think the main DVI socket might be busted, so i want to try to enable the other as the main one, however, i don't know how to achieve that. I tried just plugging the monitor in that socket but it won't just auto-detect (it would have been way too easy to just work)

• Forcedeth - too many iterations (6) in > nv_nic_irq

  Hey, I'm having trouble with an onboard nvidia gigabit network, under times of heavy load on the network, I'm seeing this error logged: "too many iterations (6) in nv_nic_irq" I'm running Hadoop DFS over these NICs and I see checksum errors build up until the whole thing just fails. I'm running the 2.6.26-2-amd64 kernel, and my initial research seems to imply its a problem with the forcedeth driver. Has anyone run into this problem before? Thanks in advance if anyone can help! • No Audio from Windows XP after formatting.

  Hello folks, I have reinstalled in my Windows XP machine. After it is re-isntalled the audio in my machine has failed. I have installed all the device drivers in my mother board. The Realtek Sound driver is also installed. Note: Sound is working when I test the surround settings test in my RealTek program, but unable to play any audio, tried playing both in my local machine and from the internet. Any clues to troubleshoot?

• MongoDB: ReplicaSet slower than a corresponding Master/Slave config

  Is it true that a mongoDB configured as a replicaset (lets say two nodes + an arbiter) will always be slower than the same DB and server specs but configured as a Master? I've run some tests and found out that for a fresh DB, RS is a little quicker than Master/Slave config but when the DB is getting bigger than ~100k records the latter is getting much snappier. am I missing something here? PS: I was testing it with mongoid driver for ruby.

And finally, my question: Will this process ever finish? If those numbers from fseek (48404774912) represent bytes, that would be something like 45 gigabytes, with this beeing a 3 terrabyte disk, which would give me 134 days to go, if the speed stays constant, and e2fsck scans the disk like this completly and only once. Do you have some advice for me? I have most of the data on that disk elsewhere, but I've put a lot of hours into sorting and merging it to this disk, so I would prefer to getting this disk up and running again, without formatting it anew. I don't think that the hardware is damaged since the disk is only a few months and since I can't see any I/O errors in the dmesg output. • Loss of wireless network connectivity when playing video via HDMI cable

  Hi Folks - New to Super User, so I hope this question fits in with the guidelines. Very strange problem I am having, and I am at a loss as to how to continue troubleshooting this one. The basic problem is that when I attempt to watch streamed video on a particular display device (an Optoma HD180 projector), my network connectivity drops like a stone to barely measurable levels. This is my setup: I have a Dell H2C 730x running Windows 7 64bit. This particular computer has two ATI Radeon HD 4800 video cards. I have two Samsung 22" monitors connected to one card, and an Optoma HD180 digital projector connected to the other card via an HDMI cable. My internet connection is normally a reliable 6Mbps. The problem I am having occurs when I stream video (or even just browse the web) on the Optoma Projector. When I do this, my internet connection drops to practically zero (just a few kilobits per second). When I move the browser away from the projector, and over to one of my Samsung monitors, the internet connection comes right back. Note that the Optoma projector is on and enabled as a third monitor all this time. I can move the mouse around on the projector without triggering the problem. I tried pinging my router when I was playing a movie on one of the monitors, and I get a 1 millisecond response. However, when I have the movie playing on the Optoma projecter, pinging the router gives me response times in the hundreds of milliseconds, or times out completely. So, it clearly is something local to my machine - and not some sort of throttling occurring down the line. I would think that it is possibly something to do with the HDMI driver conflicting somehow with my network driver (which is a USB-based wireless connection). This one has me really stumped. Anyone have any ideas? EDIT: I am now leaning towards the possibility that the HDMI cable is somehow interfering with the wireless network, when large amounts of data are being pushed through the cable. Is this possible?

• Hyper-V Blue Screens with Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS Graphics Card

  I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64. After installing the Hyper-V role and restarting the machine, I get a blue screen error and an immediate reboot. I have Googled the issue and tracked it down to the graphics card, so I uninstalled it, and then Windows loads fine. However, after installing the graphics driver again, the Blue Screen returns. The graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?

• Turn Windows 7 desktop into grayscale

  Is there a universal way to turn Windows 7 Aero desktop, all windows, etc into grayscale? I had an option to do this in Intel video drivers on my old laptop, now I have NVIDIA and don't know how to replicate this effect. There might be a shader or filter that would cause Aero to render stuff into grayscale, but I was unable to find anything. Or must it be explicitly supported by video driver as a bonus?

• Windows 7 removes boot camp drivers on reboot

  I'm installing boot camp on 64 bit windows 7 home premium from a leopard disc. During installation I get a couple of errors saying that some driver publishers are not registered or something and I install them anyway. After reboot windows tries to repair something and reboots again. When I finally log in, there is no boot camp any more. Any ideas how to solve this?   Today I downloaded the Ubuntu 10.04 x64 .iso but when trying it out in live cd the keyboard of both my laptop and a microsoft branded one didn't work. I was planning into installing Ubuntu in a partition but I couldn't even put my info in the installation process to do it. • Add an Excel file as a linked server in SQL 2012

• Scroll modifier for mouse/trackball in windows

  I have a trackball (Logitech Trackman Marble in this case, though this could apply to any mouse or pointing device) where I would like to use one of the buttons as a middle-click when I click it, but to trigger scrolling action when I hold it down and move the ball around. I could do this quite easily in Linux by setting scroll-modifier in the X config, but the driver that comes with the trackball (Logitech) only allows one or the other. Is there any way to set this up in Windows 8?
