So i was thinking of using system calls such as system("ls") to get the list of all files. but how to store it then inside my program ?   is there any faster way to parse a text than by walk each byte of the text? I wonder if there is any special CPU (x86/x64) instruction for string operation that is used by string library, that somehow used to optimize the parsing routine. for example instruction like finding a token in a string that could be run by hardware instead of looping each byte until a token is found.

  I have to solve the following: I have an Activity which's android:screenOrientation="portrait". Even though, when the device is rotated to landscape while this Activity is visible, I have to start another one, and, when the device is rotated back to portrait, I have to finish() the activity in landscape. I tried to perform this with a BroadcastReceiver, but this special activity doesn't receive any broadcasts because of the android:screenOrientation="portrait". Any help is well appreciated. Thanks.

  I dont think this is possible, but I have been using: Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command); to run commands on the command line, but now I have come accross a situation where the command I am running part way through will ask for some user input, for example a username. This can not be resolved by a argument to the command that is being exec, is there any way I can pass the username to the same command line instance and continue? Thanks in advance.
