    Our application allows administrators to add “User Properties” in order for them to be able to tailor the system to match their own HR systems. For example, if your company has departments, you can define “Departments” in the Properties table and then add values that correspond to “Departments” such as “Jewelry”, “Electronics” etc… You are then able to assign a department to users. Here is the schema: In this schema, a User can have only one UserPropertyValue per Property, but doesn’t have to have a value for the property. I am trying to build a query that will be used in SSRS 2005 and also have it use the PropertyValues as the filter for users. My query looks like this: SELECT UserLogin, FirstName, LastName FROM Users U LEFT OUTER JOIN UserPropertyValues UPV ON U.ID = UPV.UserID WHERE UPV.PropertyValueID IN (1, 5) When I run this, if the user has ANY of the property values, they are returned. What I would like to have is where this query will return users that have values BY PROPERTY. So if PropertyValueID = 1 is of Department (Jewelry), and PropertyValueID = 5 is of EmploymentType (Full Time), I want to return all users that are in Department Jewelry that are EmployeeType of Full Time, can this be done? Here's a full data example: User A has Department(Jewelry value = 1) and EmploymentType(FullTime value = 5)User B has Department(Electronics value = 2) and EmploymentType(FullTime value = 5)User C has Department(Jewelry value = 1) and EmployementType(PartTime value = 6) My query should only return User A using the above query UPDATE: I should state that this query is used as a dataset in SSRS, so the parameter passed to the query will be @PropertyIDs and it is defined as a multi-value parameter in SSRS. WHERE UPV.PropertyValueID IN (@PropertyIDs)

  • How can I use SQL to select duplicate records, along with counts of related items?

    I know the title of this question is a bit confusing, so bear with me. :) I have a (MySQL) database with a Person record. A Person also has a slug field. Unfortunately, slug fields are not unique. There are a number of duplicate records, i.e., the records have different IDs but the same first name, last name, and slug. A Person may also have 0 or more associated articles, blog entries, and podcast episodes. If that's confusing, here's a diagram of the structure: I would like to produce a list of records that match this criteria: duplicate records (i.e., same slug field) for people who also have at least 1 article, blog entry, or podcast episode. I have a SQL query that will list all records with the same slug fields: SELECT id, first_name, last_name, slug, COUNT(slug) AS person_records FROM people_person GROUP BY slug HAVING (COUNT(slug) > 1) ORDER BY last_name, first_name, id; But this includes records for people that may not have at least 1 article, blog entry, or podcast. Can I tweak this to fit the second criteria?

I realize this would be fairly trivial to implement completely by hand, however are there built-in functions that deal with query strings which could either simplify or completely solve this?   • Mysql query taking too much time

    I have problem related to mysql database. i am linux webserver admin and i am facing a problem with a mysql query. The database is very small. I tried to track in logs and found that a query is taking minimum 5 sec to respond . The first page of site is coming from the database. Client are using cms. when the server gets some number of hits database server starts to give response very slowly and wait time increases from 5 sec to several seconds. I checked slow query logs { Query_time: 11.480138 Lock_time: 0.003837 Rows_sent: 921 Rows_examined: 3333 SET timestamp=1346656767; SELECT `Tender`.`id`, `Tender`.`department_id`, `Tender`.`title_english`, `Tender`.`content_english`, `Tender`.`title_hindi`, `Tender`.`content_hindi`, `Tender`.`file_name`, `Tender`.`start_publish`, `Tender`.`end_publish`, `Tender`.`publish`, `Tender`.`status`, `Tender`.`createdBy`, `Tender`.`created`, `Tender`.`modifyBy`, `Tender`.`modified` FROM `mcms_tenders` AS `Tender` WHERE `Tender`.`department_id` IN ( 31, 33, 32, 30 ); } Every line in the log is same only there is diff in Query time. Is there any way tweak the performance?

    I'm working on a mysql query in a Drupal database that pulls together users and two different cck content types. I know people ask for help with groupwise maximum queries all the time... I've done my best but I need help. This is what I have so far: # the artists SELECT users.uid, users.name AS username, n1.title AS artist_name FROM users LEFT JOIN users_roles ur ON users.uid=ur.uid INNER JOIN role r ON ur.rid=r.rid AND r.name='artist' LEFT JOIN node n1 ON n1.uid = users.uid AND n1.type = 'submission' WHERE users.status = 1 ORDER BY users.name; This gives me data that looks like: uid username artist_name 1 foo Joe the Plumber 2 bar Jane Doe 3 baz The Tooth Fairy Also, I've got this query: # artwork SELECT n.nid, n.uid, a.field_order_value FROM node n LEFT JOIN content_type_artwork a ON n.nid = a.nid WHERE n.type = 'artwork' ORDER BY n.uid, a.field_order_value; Which gives me data like this: nid uid field_order_value 1 1 1 2 1 3 3 1 2 4 2 NULL 5 3 1 6 3 1 Additional relevant info: nid is the primary key for an Artwork every Artist has one or more Artworks valid data for field_order_value is NULL, 1, 2, 3, or 4 field_order_value is not necessarily unique per Artist - an Artist could have 4 Artworks all with field_order_value = 1. What I want is the row with the minimum field_order_value from my second query joined with the artist information from the first query. In cases where the field_order_value is not valuable information (either because the Artist has used duplicate values among their Artworks or left that field NULL), I would like the row with the minimum nid from the second query.

    I have two table testa & testb. CREATE TABLE `testa` ( `id` INT(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` VARCHAR(50) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ); CREATE TABLE `testb` ( `id` INT(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` VARCHAR(50) DEFAULT NULL, `aid1` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, `aid2` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, `aid3` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ); Currently I am running below query for retrieving all rows where id in testa table matches with any columns of aid1,aid2,aid3 in tableb. The query is retreiving acurate result but it is taking minimum 30 seconds to execute which is too much. I have also tried to optimise my query using UNION but failed to do so. SELECT a.id, a.name, b.name, b.id FROM testb b INNER JOIN testa a ON b.aid1 = a.id OR b.aid2 = a.id OR b.aid3 = a.id ; How do i optimize my query so it's total execution time is within 2-3 seconds?   • How is timezone handled in the lifecycle of an ADO.NET + SQL Server DateTime column?

    Using SQL Server 2008. This is a really junior question and I could really use some elaborate information, but the information on Google seems to dance around the topic quite a bit and it would be nice if there was some detailed elaboration on how this works... Let's say I have a datetime column and in ADO.NET I set it to DateTime.UtcNow. 1) Does SQL Server store DateTime.UtcNow accordingly, or does it offset it again based on the timezone of where the server is installed, and then return it offset-reversed when queried? I think I know that the answer is "of course it stores it without offsetting it again" but want to be certain. So then I query for it and cast it from, say, an IDataReader column to a DateTime. As far as I know, System.DateTime has metadata that internally tracks whether it is a UTC DateTime or it is an offsetted DateTime, which may or may not cause .ToLocalTime() and .ToUniversalTime() to have different behavior depending on this state. So, 2) Does this casted System.DateTime object already know that it is a UTC DateTime instance, or does it assume that it has been offset? Now let's say I don't use UtcNow, I use DateTime.Now, when performing an ADO.NET INSERT or UPDATE. 3) Does ADO.NET pass the offset to SQL Server and does SQL Server store DateTime.Now with the offset metadata? So then I query for it and cast it from, say, an IDataReader column to a DateTime. 4) Does this casted System.DateTime object already know that it is an offset time, or does it assume that it is UTC?

    My web service app on my Windows XP box is trying to log in to my sql server 2005 database on the same box. The machine is part of a domain. I am logged in in the domain and I am an admin on my machine. I am using Windows Authentication in my connection string as in "Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;Trusted_Connection=True". SQLServer is configured for both types of authentication (mixed mode) and accepts remote connections and accepts tcp and named pipes protocols. Integrated authentication is enabled in IIS and with and without anonymous access. 'Everyone' has access to computer from network setting in local security settings. ASPNET is a user in the sql server and has access to the daatabase. user is mapped to the login. The app works fine for other developers which means the app shouldn't be changed (It's not new code). So it seems it's my machine which has an issue. I am getting the error "Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection" Note the blank user name. Why am I getting this error when both the app and database are on my machine? I can use SQL Server authentication but don't want to. I can connect to the database using SSMS and my Windows credentials. It might be related to setspn, kerberos, delegation, AD. I am not sure what further checks to make?

When I for example have input fields like: first name, last name, address, post number, city. How should I query the database that I dont always get all the rows. My query is something like this: SELECT user_id, username from users where a like %?% AND b like %?% AND c like %?% AND d like %?% AND e like %?%; When I exchange the AND for OR I always get all the results which makes sense, and when I use AND I get only the exact matches... Is there any function or statement that would help me with this?

I am allowing the user to select items in a checkboxlist representing the columns they would like displayed in a gridview that is bound to the results of a L2S query. I am able to dynamically generate the WHERE clause but am unable to do the same with the SELECT piece. Edit: All but asked question, so to be technical: How can I search the index and have it not return files from the vti folders? Switching to use an ixsso query object is possible, but i'd rather avoid it for this particular instance.

I remember that in the past I did something like this but today this query is returning nothing, no error, no data, just nothing... the query is something like this: SELECT field1, @variableX:=field2 FROM table WHERE (SELECT COUNT(fieldA) FROM table2 WHERE fieldB=@variableX AND fieldC=0)0 AND (SELECT COUNT(fieldA) FROM table2 WHERE fieldB=@variableX AND fieldC=4)=0; I also tried this query but it didnt work (also it gaves no error): SELECT field1, @variableX:=field2, @variableY:=(SELECT COUNT(fieldA) FROM table2 WHERE fieldB=@variableX AND fieldC=0), @variableZ:=(SELECT COUNT(fieldA) FROM table2 WHERE fieldB=@variableX AND fieldC=4) FROM table WHERE @variableY0 AND @variableZ=0; As you can see, what Im trying to do in the 1st query is use a variable in the conditions; in the 2nd query Im trying to create some variables and evaluate them in the conditions. At the end in the 2nd query the @variableY=1 AND @variableZ=0 but I dont know what the query returns an empty data What could be wrong here??? Any comment or suggest is welcome!!! thanks!!! Bye!!!

  • Intermittent Connection Issues to SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM

    The problem I am facing is a very complex one and inspite of trying to gather a root cause of the problem, I am standing at the same place after 2 months with just bits and pieces of information.Here is a scenario: There is a windows 2003 server which uses an system DSN ODBC connection. I looked into the driver properties and it is as follows: Name Version File SQL Server 2000.86.3959.00 SQLSRV32.DLL Now, this system DSN has been given configured with TCP\IP in Network Libraries and 'determine port dynamically' is checked. Now, lets come to the database destination. It is hosted on Windows 2008 having SQL 2008 R2 RTM version 64-bit. Now, I will give you a an overview about the events that happen and whatever troubleshooting I could perform: I get an email saying 'blah blah' failed and the only message their application gets is 'cannot connect to database' I go the SQL Server logs and find the following information: Login failed for user ''. Reason: An attempt to login using SQL authentication failed. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. [CLIENT: 10.0.0.xx Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 58.] A quick search shows that this error may come when an SQL Server is configured with windows authentication but its not true. We have mixed mode and connection issue is intermittent. This SQL Server is configured to run on a local system account but since we use only SQL Server accounts to connect to this, there should not be any Kerberos errors. When I run a profiler trace and see only 'existing connections', i see a lot of them coming from my client server displaying the sql user but NO hostname is shown. Textdata field shows TCP\IP information along with some arithabort and ansi-null settings.
