• Join using combined conditions on one join table

  I have join a table joining songs to genres. The table has a 'source' column that's used to identify where the genre was found. Genres are found from blogs, artists, tags, and posts. So, songs | song_genre | genres id | song_id, source, genre_id | id What I want to build is a song SELECT query that works something like this, given I already have a genre_id: IF exists song_genre with source='artist' AND a song_genre with source='blog' OR exists song_genre with source='artist' AND a song_genre with source='post' OR exists song_genre with source='tag' I'm was going to do it by doing a bunch of joins, but am sure I'm not doing it very well. Using Postgres 9.1.

• Image equivalent of ActionLink in ASP.NET MVC

  In ASP.NET MVC is there an equivalent of the Html.ActionLink helper for Img tags? I have a controller action that outputs a dynamically generated JPEG and I wanted to use the same Lambda expressions to link to it as I do HREFs using ActionLink. Alternatively, a helper that just gives the URL to a route (again specified using Lambdas) would also be acceptable. EDIT: I had originally specified that I was using Preview 5, however I see that a Beta has been released. So all-in-all the version number was an unneeded piece of info as I may be upgrading soon :-)

• Converting a company from SVN to Hg?

  We're a heavy user of SVN here. While the advantages of GIT over SVN made us want to change, the advantages of Hg over SVN mean it's now time to change and we need to start doing so very soon. I'm not so worried on the client side, but here are my questions. There are some excellent books on setting file metaproperties, properly organizing projects, etc on SVN. What is that book(s) for Hg? Is there a way to convert an SVN repository (that you've used) and can report how well it went? We don't want to lose years of commit logs if possible. When you DO convert, how did you split up the old code? Did you commit trunk as one project, and tags/forks as another? If you used SVN for legacy work, did you check in updates to SVN or something else?

• Question about software that tracks divs better than notepad++

  I recently got hired as a web developer, and the project that I am overseeing has a formatting issue on one of the pages because one of the divs is out of whack. It is a fairly complex page with quite a bit of php, and from what I can gather, I am missing a </div> tag somewhere, and accordingly everything is messed up. I am currently using notepad++, which is decent at lining up divs, meaning that if you click on the opening div tag, it will highlight purple and also highlight the closing one. But it seems as though if you have div tags that span several lines (hundreds) it won't work. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Is there a better editor I could be using that would do a better job of helping me with my div issue? Or do I have to go through and line up the divs 1 by 1? (there are like over 100). Please let me know!! Thanks

  I have a table (3x3) that counts "< /form" as space in IE. The code for 1 td looks like: <style type="text/css"> table { border-width: 0px; border-collapse: collapse; padding: 0px; } td, th { padding: 0px; } </style> <table><tr><td><form name="form" action="index.php" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="from" value="a" /><input type="image" src="pic1.gif" alt="1" name="submit" value="submit" /></form></td> There is no spaces anywhere outside the tags. Inside the td, there is a form, with a hidden field and a picture. Firefox shows only the picture, but IE has spaces between the rows. I did a little debugging, and found it was from the /form. Does anyone know a fix to this?

• The best practice to setup hierarchy data

  I'm trying to figure out the best practice to setup hierarchy data that i take from a database into some contoller that would show the hierachy. Basicly this would look like a normal tree but when you press the items that are under "chapters" you get a link to another page. I have these tables and this is the way they are connected Period Courses Subjects Chapters I select Period from a DropDownBox and then i want all the courses in that period to line up. Under each course would be the subject and under them are the chapers, typical hierarchy. The tables are linked together with refrences to each other in linear way. I have tried to use treeview to show this, but dont understand how to do it. I though i could use <ul><il> tags and do it at runtime. Reapeter or datalist, possible ? Is it better to do this with databinding in XAML or in code ?

  Hello, I have a xml where I got some empty complex elements and I need to access the attribute values of this element. <test> <a> <abc-metadata name="testData" value="This is a test"/> </a> </test> I want to get hold of the 'testData' and 'This is a test' values. I do read the document and I tried accessing it document.getElementsByTagName . I am sure there is some way to access attributes of element tags but somehow it throws me nullpointer exception. • How to know if the website being scraped has changed?

  I'm using PHP to scrape a website and collect some data. It's all done without using regex. I'm using php's explode() method to find particular HTML tags instead. It is possible that if the structure of the website changes (CSS, HTML), then wrong data may be collected by the scraper. So the question is - how do I know if the HTML structure has changed? How to identify this before storing any data to my database to avoid wrong data being stored.

• Programatically convert complex Excel file into HTML format

  Hello all, I have a set of complex Excel files (with figures in it) that I want to show in a web browser. So I need to convert them into HTML page first. Since the excel files are very complex, I can not just parse them and generate a HTML table with HTML tags. The current manual solution that works fine is when I use Microsoft Excel software to save the spreadsheet as a HTML page. I want to automate this task in some way since I want to do it progrmatically through Java. Is their any existing solution or a way to do it? Thanks.

• Old functions return 'undefined' error once I add a jquery reference

  Disregard this question: I've simply confused <script src="..."></script> tag and <script> [some functions] </scipt> tags. I have this function function OnLoad() { ShowHideConfirmAnswers(); return true; } triggered by onload event: <body onload=OnLoad()> It works fine until I add src="jquery-1.4.2.js" to the script element. From this moment I get "OnLoad is not defined" error, and the same happens to every other javascript function.

  I am trying to make a simple animation using JQuery. I have tried adding the script externally(external file) and internally(within script tags). I have testing if the page is recognizing the script using the alert function, but the script is not executing.   I have an Email body that used to be plain text, but now I've made it HTML. The emails are generated using a number of methods and none of them are easy to convert. What I'd like to do is create a function that automatically encloses all email addresses and all URLs withing a string in HREF tags so that the HTML email reads properly in all email clients. How can I check if the file exists before trying to include it so that an error is not thrown? I'd like to avoid using inline Java. Something using one of the JSTL tags is the preferred approach.

• Getting 'choice' to work in Highline Ruby Gem without error and getting variable from it

  I'm having a couple of problems using Highline in Ruby, and trying to get the choice element, detailed here, to work. At the moment the following code produces the error "error: wrong number of arguments (0 for 1). Use --trace to view backtrace" How do I get the variable out of choice? At the moment I have the 'do' setup, but I have no idea about how to get the variable the user has chosen out and into a variable for use elsewhere.   I want to convert an array of Place objects to json, I've been doing it like this: var places = <%= @places.to_json.html_safe %>; The only problem is that every place in the @places array has an associated tag list that doesn't get included. I'm using the acts_as_taggable_on gem to handle tags, so to get the tag list for a place I need to say place.tag_list. What do I have to do to get the tag_list included for each place in the javascript array? I think I'll need to write my own to_json method but I don't know how. Thanks

• JQuery - How do I count the number of elements selected by a selector?

  I am using $().fadeOut() to fade items out in a list ( < li < /li). When the list is empty I wish to hide a parent object. I plan on doing this by checking in my trigger event that fades the list if the count of the objects is 0 then hide the parent element. I can use the fadeOut callback to remove the elements if necessary. The to the point question: How do I select li tags inside a ul and then get the total count of them using jquery?

When you click on browse more you are taken to a page with a bar on top with different page numbers and a drop down to select the number of pages you want to view on that page. • Django date filter: how come the format used is different from the one in datetime library?

  For formatting a date using date filter you must use the following format : {{ my_date|date:"Y-m-d" }} If you use strftime from the standard datetime, you have to use the following : my_date.strftime("%Y-%m-%d") So my question is ... isn't it ugly (I guess it is because of the % that is used also for tags, and therefore is escaped or something) ? But that's not the main question ... I would like to use the same DATE_FORMAT parametrized in settings.py all over the project, but it therefore seems that I cannot ! Is there a work around (for example a filter that removes the % after the date has been formatted like {{ my_date|date|dream_filter }}, because if I just use DATE_FORMAT = "%Y-%m-%d" I got something like %2001-%6-%12)?
