  • Can I set a timeout for a InputStream's read() function?

    - by Zombies
I have a DataInputStream that I obtained from a Socket. Is there any way I can set a timeout for dis.read(...)? Currently I spawn a new thread to do the read. While the parent thread does a thread.join(timeout) to wait before interrupting it. I am aware of nio, but I don't think I want to refactor that much at this point. Thanks.

  • DATA command hangs

    - by Tharban
Hello, what can i do, if a Mailserver accepts a connection but does not return any data? The default javax.mail implementation just hangs indefinitley. Event setting the smtp.timeout does not help - it still hangs. I even tried to set a custom SocketFactory to set the sotimeouts and solinger directly, but it still hangs. Somehow the socket does get kept alive? But how? Thx for any ideas! Ciao, Nils

  • Recipes/tutorials/libraries for GUI-like terminal navigation (vim/lynx-style)?

    - by qgi
Several console based applications like vim or lynx offer a rich user interface which enables the user to navigate freely around the console, manipulate data directly on screen, access menus and much more, similar to "modern" gui applications. How is that being achieved in principal on Unix/Linux with C++? Do you directly manipulate some kind of character buffer or is the screen constantly cleared and reprinted to stdout? Is there a set of libraries to implement such behavior or even some kind of a "modern" event-driven GUI toolkit for the console?

  • How to perform an action when file changed?

    - by ZeissS
Hi, I want to create a script that checks an URL and perform an action (download + unzip) when the "Last-Modified" header of the remote file changed. I thought about fetching the header with curl but then I have to store it somewhere for each file and perform a date comparison. Does anyone have a different idea using (mostly) standard unix tools? thanks

  • Interconnecting Emulator Instances Android

    - by blah01
Hi all I want to communicate two emulators via DatagramSocket in Android. Each of them is a Node in a P2P system. Thus each of them has a server Thread and client Thread (created per GUI event). This is how I create server public static final String SERVERIP = "10.0.2.15"; //... run() { InetAddress serverAddr = InetAddress.getByName(SERVERIP); DatagramSocket socket = new DatagramSocket(SERVERPORT,serverAddr); while(true) { byte[] buf = new byte[29]; DatagramPacket packet = new DatagramPacket(buf, buf.length); socket.receive(packet); //... } } The port is given by the user during initializing application. The client part (requesting some data) InetAddress serverAddr = InetAddress.getByName("10.0.2.2"); //... Log.i("Requester", "Trying to connect to device port = "+target); DatagramSocket socketJ = new DatagramSocket(); byte[] bufJ = Adaptor.createStringMsg(Adaptor.createJoingMsg(id, Location.getX(), Location.getY())).getBytes(); DatagramPacket packetJ = new DatagramPacket(bufJ, bufJ.length, serverAddr, target); Log.i("Requester", "Sending: '" + new String(bufJ) + "'"); socketJ.send(packetJ); Log.i("Requester", "Done."); Some additional info. The Node1 (emulatorA) has a server on port 8000 and Node2 (emulatorB) has a server on port 8001. The target port for "client part" is read properly. What tried to do is to set the redirection as such: //emulatorA redir add tcp:8000:8000 //emulatorB redir add tcp:8001:8001 However I can not get any communication beetwen those 2 emulators. As far as I understood the android tutorial about it should work like this redir add tcp:localhostPort:emulatorPort. I'm stuck with it :/. Can anyone point me the mistake or give some good advice. For the record while I was testing communication on a single device (client faking other node) everything worked, so I don't think there is a bug in the code. Btw does any one knows how can I get 2 set of logs for those 2 emulators (logA, logB)? It would help me a lot.

  • Detecting operating system or computer name through a Java servlet

    - by Ankur
I have a Java web app that I develop on a Windows machine and will deploy on a Unix machine. There are some file path settings and permissions details that differ on the two (and there is nothing I can do to change this). Is there some way of detecting which machine the app is sitting on (it's only one of two), either by detecting the operating system or the computer's name so I can then using the appropriate settings.

  • Another Synergy issue: screen lock on Windows Server 2003

    - by pmr
I have set up Synergy on Unix systems with no problems, however when I set up a Synergy server on a Windows Server 2003 box using I get an error message that the mouse cursor is locked when trying to move to the client system. I use a Microsoft Natural keyboard in case that matters (seems Scroll Lock might be involved). Does anyone have experience with using Synergy on Windows systems that have reported mouse screen locking in the log when unable to mouse over to a client system?

  • home directory and .emacs file in Windows 7

    - by prosseek
I installed emacs 23.3.1 in c:/emacs-23.3. Following the hints in this page, I updated the site-start.el to set HOME environment variable. (setenv "HOME" "c:/users/USER/emacs") And I made c:/users/USER/.emacs (like I did in unix/mac) to write the code for using slime, but it doesn't seem to start slime correctly. Is this a correct way of setting emacs in Windows 7? Where do I put the .emacs file?

  • What's the difference between using ProtocolType.IP and ProtocolType.Tcp

    - by Sekhat
I've just answered problem with sockets in c# where in my example code I initializing my socket using ProtocolType.IP as this is what I've always used in my own code, and it has never caused me problems. But I see many examples specifying ProtocolType.Tcp. I guess, what I'm asking is, by using ProtocolType.IP instead of ProtocolType.Tcp is anything being performed differently under the hood that I should be aware of?

  • How can I copy a directory but ignore some files in Perl?

    - by user65457
In my Perl code, I need to copy a directory from one location to another on the same host excluding some files/patterns (e.g. *.log, ./myDir/abc.cl). What would be the optimum way of doing this in Perl across all the platforms? On Windows, xcopy is one such solution. On unix platforms, is there a way to do this in Perl?
