• Install PHP mcrypt on Red Hat 4

  I'm having a very hard time getting mcrypt for PHP installed on a Red Hat 4 server. I've downloaded the rpm but it tells me: error: Failed dependencies: php-common(x86-32) = 5.4.7-2.fc18 is needed by php-mcrypt-5.4.7-2.fc18.i686 rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1 is needed by php-mcrypt-5.4.7-2.fc18.i686 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4) is needed by php-mcrypt-5.4.7-2.fc18.i686 libltdl.so.7 is needed by php-mcrypt-5.4.7-2.fc18.i686 rtld(GNU_HASH) is needed by php-mcrypt-5.4.7-2.fc18.i686 rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1 is needed by php-mcrypt-5.4.7-2.fc18.i686 So when I try to install one of those packages, they also require another 8 packages. So I'm diving into dependency hell here. Now if I try to compile mcrypt from source, this is what I get: checking for libmcrypt - version >= 2.5.0... no *** Could not run libmcrypt test program, checking why... *** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the *** exact error that occured. This usually means LIBMCRYPT was incorrectly installed *** or that you have moved LIBMCRYPT since it was installed. In the latter case, you *** may want to edit the libmcrypt-config script: no configure: error: *** libmcrypt was not found But I was able to install libmcrypt from an rpm packages successfully. Any suggestions? Also, I cannot use up2date as it requires an active paid account from Red Hat and since the staff has changed rather rapidly in the last year where I work, no one knows if there even was any support accounts.

• installing wxGTK-devel on CentOS 5.4

  I'm trying to install wxGTK-devel on CentOS and since it's not in the base repo I added RPMForge. But now I'm getting these broken dependencies. I don't want start tampering with separate rpms because I suspect it will make thing worse. I remember installing this package from RPMForge without a problem several months ago.   This is a c#/asp.net project. The full error message I get is:Error 0194: All artifacts loaded into the item collection must have the same version. Multiple versions were encountered. This project was started as a 3.5 and upgraded to 4.0. When I try to test any of the methods I get the error that I posted in the subject line. I am going to include the actual lines that it throws the exception on. If there is anything in people need to see to try to help let me know and I post it as well. • Help a C# developer understand: What is a monad?

  There is a lot of talk about monads these days. I have read a few articles / blog posts, but I can't go far enough with their examples to fully grasp the concept. The reason is that monads are a functional language concept, and thus the examples are in languages I haven't worked with (since I haven't used a functional language in depth). I can't grasp the syntax deeply enough to follow the articles fully ... but I can tell there's something worth understanding there. However, I know C# pretty well, including lambda expressions and other functional features. I know C# only has a subset of functional features, and so maybe monads can't be expressed in C#. However, surely it is possible to convey the concept? At least I hope so. Maybe you can present a C# example as a foundation, and then describe what a C# developer would wish he could do from there but can't because the language lacks functional programming features. This would be fantastic, because it would convey the intent and benefits of monads. So here's my question: What is the best explanation you can give of monads to a C# 3 developer? Thanks! (EDIT: By the way, I know there are at least 3 "what is a monad" questions already on SO. However, I face the same problem with them ... so this question is needed imo, because of the C#-developer focus. Thanks.)

• Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

  I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so? It provides java libraries to work on communication (PC to sensor) 2) I am working on windows xp environment through cigwin. 3) I am developing an application . THis application requires one java interface called "Serial Forwarder" , which is readily available in libraries provided. But now i want to make my application independent . User need know about this background cygwin commands . 4) So in my java application i used "Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder)" . 5) This i neither giving any error nor starting the interface. Am I going on right way ? When i am using runtime execute command , how can i make sure that this command is called through cigwin interface ? • Need help writing jQuery to loop through table and inject markers into google map?

  I am new to jQuery. I've done some simple things with it but what I am attempting now is a over my head and I need some help. I am building a locator for all the firearms dealers in the US for a client. I am working within Drupal. I have a proximity search by zip code that works great. If you search by zip a list of paginated results shows up in an html table that can by paged through via ajax. I would like a map to be above this list with markers corresponding to the names and addresses being listed. I already have all the lat and long values in the table results. I want the script to update the markers and automatically zoom to fit the markers in the view when a user changes the sort order of the table or pages through the results. Also, I'd like to have a hover highlight effect over the rows of the table that simultaneously highlight the corresponding marker, and have a click on the table row equal a click on a marker that pops up a marker info window to be populated using jQuery to read the name and address fields of the table. Hope this all makes sense. I know I'm putting a lot out there, I'm not asking for someone to write the whole script, just wanted to give as many details as possible. Thanks for any help. I'm just lost when it comes to looping and moving data around. • Will Learning C++ Help for Building Fast/No-Additional-Requirements Desktop Applications?

  Will learning C++ help me build native applications with good speed? Will it help me as a programmer, and what are the other benefits? The reason why I want to learn C++ is because I'm disappointed with the UI performances of applications built on top of JVM and .NET. They feel slow, and start slow too. Of course, a really bad programmer can create a slower and sluggish application using C++ too, but I'm not considering that case. One of my favorite Windows utility application is Launchy. And in the Readme.pdf file, the author of the program wrote this: 0.6 This is the first C++ release. As I became frustrated with C#’s large .NET framework requirements and users lack of desire to install it, I decided to switch back to the faster language. I totally agree with the author of Launchy about the .NET framework requirement or even a JRE requirement for desktop applications. Let alone the specific version of them. And some of the best and my favorite desktop applications don't need .NET or Java to run. They just run after installing. Are they mostly built using C++? Is C++ the only option for good and fast GUI based applications? And, I'm also very interested in hearing the other benefits of learning C++.

  i have made an application project in vs 08 c#, sql server from vs 08. the database has like 20 tables and many fields in each have made an interface for adding deleting editting and retrieving data according to predefined needs of the users. now i have to 1) make to project in to a software which i can deliver to professor. that is he can just double click the icon and the software simply starts. no vs 08 needed to start the debugging 2) the database will be on one powerful computer (dual core latest everything win xp) and the user will access it from another computer connected using LAN i am able to change the connection string to the shared database using vs 08/ debugger whenever the server changes but how am i supposed to do that when its a software? 3)there will by many clients am i supposed to give the same software to every one, so they all can connect to the database, how will the integrity and correctness of the database be maintained? i mean the db.mdf file will be in a folder which will be shared with read and write access. so its not necessary that only one user will write at a time. so is there any coding for this or? please help me out here i am stuck do not know what to do i have no practical experience, would appreciate all the help thank you

  If we were to use server1 for all files (file server), server2 for mysql database (database server). In order for websites in server1 to access to the database in server2, isn't it needed to connect to to ip address of second (mysql server) ? In this case, is remote mysql connection. However, I seen from some people comment on the security issue. remote access to MySQL is not very secure. When your remote computer first connects to your MySQL database, the password is encrypted before being transmitted over the Internet. But after that, all data is passed as unencrypted "plain text". If someone was able to view your connection data (such as a "hacker" capturing data from an unencrypted WiFi connection you're using), that person would be able to view part or all of your database. So I just wondering ways to secure it? Allow remote mysql access from server1 by allowing the static ip adress allow remote access from server 1 by setting port allowed to connect to 3306 change 3306 to other port? Any advice?

  Hi, I'm having trouble making a secondary MySQL connection (to a separate, external DB) in my code. It works fine in PHP 5.2.9 but fails to connect in PHP 5.3.0. I'm aware of (at least some) of the changes needed to make successful MySQL connections in the newer version of PHP, and have succeeded before, so I'm not sure why it isn't working this time. I already have a db connection open to a local database. This function below is then used to make an additional connection to a separate, remote directory. The included config file simply contains the external database details (host, user, pass and name).   Need some help assigning a mouseover event to display some icons that start out hidden. For every <li> in the ul, I have icons. When the user mouses over the <li> I want the span tag with a class called "icons" to be displayed. When the mouse out event occurs remove the class and/or just hide the span. The problem for me is how to assign event so just the span tag and its contents appear and disapear when the mouse hovers over the <li>.   Hi, Firstly this has turned out to be quite a long post so please bear with me as its not too difficult but you may need to clarify something with me if i haven't explained it correctly. So with some help the other day from guys on this forum, i managed to partially set up my 'mapClass' class, but i'm having trouble with it and its not running correctly so i would like some help if possible. I will post the code below so you can see. What Ive got is a 'Dundrum' class which sets up the listView for an array of items. Then ive got a 'dundrumSelector' class which I use to set up the setOnClickListener() methods on the listItems and link them to their correct views. The onClick() events don't even work from the listView to get into the correct views. I have to comment out the methods in 'DundrumSelector' before I can get into their views. And this is what I dont understand, firstly why wont the onClick() events work, because its not even on that next view where the map is. I know this is a very long post and it might be quite confusing so let me know if you want any clarification.. Just to recap, what i'm trying to do is just have one class that sets up the map coordinates, like what i'm trying to do in my 'mapClass'. • Dell 2950 Perc 6/i "physical disk" and "Enclosure(Backplane)" under Connector 1 in OMSA tree- Troubleshoot help

  Just looking for someone who might know why this could occur... In OMSA, on my Dell 2950, there usually is only one "Physical Disks" child under "Enclosure (Backplane)" in the tree view. Currently, the tree looks like this: Dell PERC 6/i Integrated Connector 1 (RAID) Enclosure (Backplane) Physical Disks (1:04 good, 1:05 removed) Physical Disks (1:33 Ready but unused) Normally it's like this: Connector 1 (RAID) Enclosure (Backplane) Physical Disks (1:04 good, 1:05 good) From the front, 6 of 6 3.5" SAS drives are connected. The server is showing Slot 5 as bad and the disk as removed. It seems that the drive in Slot 5 is being sensed as external to the Enclosure. Any ideas why this would happen? Think I can get away with rebuilding the virtual disk by replacing 1:05 with 1:33? Thanks. UPDATE: The only options on the Physical Disk 1:33 were Assign as Global Hot Spare and Clear... After clearing, I assigned it as the Global Hot Spare. This allowed the rebuilding of the virtual disk. Hopefully it won't fail. I'm still unsure of the reason for this odd behavior. I'm checking the firmware next.

• Sonicwall SSL VPN Login : I need help with a NetExtender initialization error.

  I receive the error message: "Server is busy now, please try it later!" after logging into our Sonicwall successfully and attempting to initialize NetExtender for the "virtual office" function. It was set up yesterday and I am able to log in without any issues, but I keep getting hung up on the installation and/or initialization of NetExtender. I have attempted to connect remotely on XP and 7 using both FireFox and IE. I am using a Sonicwall NSA-240 with load balancing active (1 ISP and 2 different connections)- I have tried turning off load balancing and disabling the secondary connection but still receive the same error. I've been in contact with SonicWall support but I haven't heard from them as of yet so I'm asking the Server Fault community in the meantime... Does anyone have any ideas as per what could be the issue? Thanks -Jack

• IIS 7.0 Web Deploy authentication fails after changing Windows password... help?

  I have a very basic Windows 2008 R2 Web Server running IIS 7.0. This is just a test/practice server, so I enabled Web Deployment using Windows Authentication. All was well and I was able to deploy easily from VS 2010 using the Administrator account credentials. After changing the Administrator account password, I get the following error when trying to deploy from Visual Studio (using the new password, of course): Error 1 Web deployment task failed... ...An unsupported response was received. The response header 'MSDeploy.Response' was '' but 'v1' was expected. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. If I change the Administrator password back to the original one and try to publish using it everything works fine again. So what am I missing? Am I supposed to do something in IIS after changing the password? Thanks!
