  • Choosing connectionstring in VB.NET application at startup

    I have a VB.NET application with a connection to an SQL Server 2003. On the server there are two databases, MyDatabase and MyDatabase_Test. What I would like to do is to show a dialog when the program starts that let's the user choose which database to use. My idea is to create a new form as the starup form that sets this property and then launches the main form. Currently the connectionstring is specified in the application config file. Best would be if I can specify two different connection strings in that file to choose from, but for now it is also acceptable with other solutions like hardcoding the two connectionstrings into the startup form.

  • Document Based Application, preinitialize window (enter serial, buy, trial)

    I need to create several windows before NSDocument is loaded, or create a window that blocks NSDocument window and top menu. I tried several solutions - but they didn't work right. modal window, one after another. there were some problems with Async URLConnection, and some other problems with my NSDocument content. I created custom MainMenu.xib with no menu, that opens my preinitialize windows. here i found some other problems, when a file(associated with my application) is opened - the Document Window initializes. Here i tried to subclass NSDocumentController, but i found no way to pause the "open document". (i want the document to be opened anyway, but only after the preinitalize windows would be closed). So what is the right way to do this?

    For my app I'm using Tomcat 6.0.x and Mojarra 1.2_04 JSF implementation. It works fine, just I would like to switch now to MyFaces 1.2_10 impl of JSF. During the deployment of my app a get the following error: ERROR [org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].[/myApp]] StandardWrapper.Throwable java.lang.IllegalStateException: No Factories configured for this Application. This happens if the faces-initialization does not work at all - make sure that you properly include all configuration settings necessary for a basic faces application and that all the necessary libs are included. Also check the logging output of your web application and your container for any exceptions! If you did that and find nothing, the mistake might be due to the fact that you use some special web-containers which do not support registering context-listeners via TLD files and a context listener is not setup in your web.xml.   • Getting Path (context root) to the Application in Restlet

    I am needing to get the application root within a Restlet resource class (it extends ServerResource). My end goal is trying to return a full explicit path to another Resource. I am currently using getRequest().getResourceRef().getPath() and this almost gets me what I need. This does not return the full URL (like http://example.com/app), it returns to me /resourceName. So two problems I'm having with that, one is it is missing the schema (the http or https part) and server name, the other is it does not return where the application has been mounted to. So given a person resource at 'http://dev.example.com/app_name/person', I would like to find a way to get back 'http://dev.example.com/app_name'. I am using Restlet 2.0 RC3 and deploying it to GAE.

The code may look something like this: CALL MyBatchFile.bat "$(fileVersion.ProductVersion($(var.My Application.TargetPath)))" But this results in the following error: Unhandled Exception:The expression """.My Application" cannot be evaluated.     Hi, is it possible to create and register routes after Application.Start() is called? let's say have a controller, PersonController. With default routing, URLs could look something like www.site.com/Person/Edit/4, with 'Person' matching the controller. now imagine I have several users, some may prefer we use the term 'Friends'. I would like to use the same controller, and have /Friends/Edit/4 map to the same controller/action/id. Maybe someone else prefers /Comrades/Edit/4. with the naming preferences stored in a database, is there a way that I can dynamically create these routes at some point mid-application, after the user has logged in? thanks!

  • Lightweight PHP server to bundle with application?

    Does there exist some sort of PHP server that can be bundled with a locally-deployed application? It sounds wonky, but the end result is I can't use a remote web server to do anything. Clients will be downloading a package, and the plan is to use a Java backend that reads from a flat file. The flat file contains settings and is modified through a GUI written in HTML/JS, and this is where the server would come in. The forms in HTML should be able to submit to the server, which does a simple file write to the flat file. Is there any simple, lightweight server that has that simple feature? When running the executable for the application, it would start the installation process for the server before moving the web GUI files to the appropriate locations. Note that I'm doing this for a client, so I can't quite change the reqs and would rather not discuss their effectiveness. I would be ever thankful if people had suggestions for the server though!

    I have a ASP.NET application which implements a custom in-memory cache. I'm using this as opposed to ASP.NET's caching mechanism as I needed a more complex way to handle what to drop from the cache. Part of this custom cache is a separate thread which occasionally searches for data to drop from the cache whenever it gets too large. What I need to do is signal this cache maintenance thread to stop whenever the ASP.NET application 'exits'. I guess this basically amounts to when the web site is stopped in IIS. Is there a pre-existing event I can utilise to do this? Thanks.

    I have built a chat application which uses this code to push messages to clients (web pages) and to monitor online users and their information. Basically, the code creates and manages a custom thread pool for maintaining the list of connected users & their state. The application was hosted on a shared hosting account (IIS6), and worked fine. After moving the site (ASP.Net App) to a dedicated virtual server it seems I have a problem where IIS7 gets slower and slower as time passes, and my only "solution" is to restart IIS. I am trying to look at the performance counters and have do idea on which one to look.

  • Bulding an multi-platform SWT application using Ant

    I'm writing an SWT application which can be used on Windows (32/64 bit) and Mac OSX (32/64 bit). Apart from the JRE I rely on the SWT library found here. I can find four versions of the SWT library depending upon my target platforms (as mentioned above). When building my application, how can I compile using the correct SWT Jar? If possible, I'd like to try and avoid hard-coding the Jar version, platform and architecture. The SWT Jars are named like this: swt-win32-x86_64.jar swt-win32-x86_32.jar swt-macosx-x86_32.jar swt-macosx-x86_64.jar (My project will be an open source project. I'd like people to be able to download the source and build it and therefore I've thought of including all the four versions of the SWT Jars in the source distribution. I hope this is the correct approach of publishing code relying on third-part libraries.) Thanks everyone.

    I try to pragrammatically run applications such as notepad.exe and Calc.exe with the following codes. I can see the application is activated in Process Exprorer but the application UI does not appear on the screen. I got this info inside the process p - "Process must exit before requested information can be determined" and the exitcode are 1200, 5084, etc. What is wrong? Thanks!     I'm working on writing a small WSGI application using Bottle and SqlAlchemy and am confused on how the "layout" of my application should be in terms of SqlAlchemy. My confusion is with creating engines and sessions. My understanding is that I should only create one engine with the 'create_engine' method. Should I be creating an engine instance in the global namespace in some sort of singleton pattern and creating sessions based off of it? How have you done this in your projects? Any insight would be appreciated. The examples in the documentation dont seem to make this entirely clear (unless I'm missing something obvious). Any thoughts?

    I'm looking for some recommendations for a python web application. We have some memory restrictions and we try to keep it small and lean. We thought about using WSGI (and a python webserver) and build the rest ourself. We already have a template engine we'd like to use, but we are open for some suggestions regarding the whole request handling (the controller). The application has to run in a single process and the requests have to be processed with multiple threads. We've looked at django, but we are a not sure if it fits into our memory budget. But JAB said that crackers can search where my unique key is located by checking for binary differences, if the cracker has multiple copies of my software. Then crackers change that key to make them self anonymous. That is true. Now comes the question: If I want to add a unique key, are there tools to shuffle (a kind of obfuscation) the program modules? So, that a binary compare would say that the two files are completely different. So they can't locate the identifier key. I'm pretty sure it is possible (maybe by replacing assembler blocks and make some jumps). I think it would be enough to make 30 to 40 shuffles of my software. Thanks

    Iam new to iphone development and have been tasked to development a fairly simple iphone application. It would basically show listings of information eg accommodations, restaurants...around 8-9 different types. Drilling on one would show the details of it. These are dynamically sourced from a db (through an xml feed) that powers an existing website. Also users should have ability to save favourites and also an interactive google map showing locations of these places. Just would like to know how long would such an iphone application take to develop and what would it costs. As iam new to iphone dev, i do not know how big the scope is, any complications to anticipate, scope creep issues, and how much to charge. Want to give a reasonable estimate so that i dont overcharge.
