• How does array class work in Java?

  In Java, array is a class and extends Object. I am curious to know about this special array class. I don't find the class definition anywhere. Doing a getClass().getName() gives strange result. String[] array = new String[]{"one","two"}; System.out.println(array.getClass().getName()); // prints [Ljava.lang.String; I want to understand how array works under the hood. Is the array class definition hardcoded in the JVM? Any resources, books, links on this will be helpful. Thank you.

• Why are Java primitive types' modifiers `public`, `abstract`, & `final`?

  In the process of doing some reflection on Java types, I came across an oddity that I do not understand. Inspecting int for its modifiers returns public, abstract, and final. I understand public and final, but the presence of abstract on a primitive type is non-obvious to me. Why is this the case? • [Java6] Same source code, Eclipse build success but Maven (javac) fails

  Keep getting this error when compiling using Maven: type parameters of <X>X cannot be determined; no unique maximal instance exists for type variable X with upper bounds int,java.lang.Object Generics type interference cannot be applied to primitive types. But I thought since Java5, boxing/unboxing mechanism works seamlessly between primitive types and wrapper classes. In any case, the strange thing is Eclipse doesn't report any errors and happily compiles. I'm using JDK1.6.0_12. What could possibly be the problem here?

My problem is, i have copied the .class file into other directory with the necessary jar files need to create this excel sheet, for example my .class is inside "pack" package. c:/myprogram/pack/excelprogram.class to d:/myprogram /pack/excelprogram.class /jxl.jar /ojdbc14.jar if i run the program javac pack.excelprogram it display below error Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: jxl.format.CellFormat i have dependency jar file(jxl.jar) for this excel sheet creation.Error is displaying from that only. i have set class path for this jar file like set classpath="%classpath%";d:/myprogram/jxl.jar;d:/myprogram/ojdbc14.jar;.; even though i'm getting the same error. Please help ASAP.

  Class.forName(boolean.class.getName()); This doesn't work in Java - the virtual machine slaps you with a ClassNotFoundException. I was in need for something like that because I wanted to reflect methods based on Strings that included the method signatures, like public void doSomething(boolean yesWeCan, java.lang.String[] presidents); At the end I came up with a custom 'ClassFactory' which translates the type Strings to class objects. This factory includes a lot of handlers for primitive and array type values. The handler for array type objects is something like: if (isArrayOfObjects) { return Class.forName("L["+typeName.replace("[]", "")+";"); } My question is - have I missed something in the Java 1.5+ API that might do the trick?

• Why is 1942/4/3 00:00:00 an illegal date in java.util.Calendar?

  Is there something special in the date 3rd of April 1942? For some reason the the hour of day 0 (12:00 am) is illegal for this specific date. The date is accepted when a lenient calendar is used but the hour of day is incremented to 1 (1:00 am). Relevant code java.util.Calendar calendar = java.util.Calendar.getInstance(); calendar.clear(); calendar.setLenient(false); calendar.set(1942, 3, 3, 0, 0, 0); calendar.getTimeInMillis(); Exception java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: HOUR_OF_DAY at java.util.GregorianCalendar.computeTime(Unknown Source) at java.util.Calendar.updateTime(Unknown Source) at java.util.Calendar.getTimeInMillis(Unknown Source) I'd really prefer is the dates were not lenient as I don't want to accept impossible dates.

• Android XML-RPC Serialization Issue

  I am attempting to use Android XML-RPC and for some calls I get the following exception: W/System.err( 837): java.io.IOException: Cannot serialize java.lang.Object@43759748 It looks like it is having troubles serializing the returned data, but I cannot find much documentation on how to actually use Android XML-RPC. The way I am using Android XML-RPC is as follows: Object response = (Object)client.call("sales_order.list", new Object()); This one is pretty odd. I have tried setting this call up in a few different ways (using HashMaps, not passing second variable, etc) and the response I get is that sales_order.list is not a valid Method. I have been able to login to the service using the following code: this.sessionId = (String)client.call("login", this.apiUserName, this.apiPassword); Does anyone have any ideas or a good resource on how to use Android XML-RPC? • Program visible to Linux as normal directory

I try to create program to cache most used files in memory (less I/O to HDD), but right now I don't know how to achive that. There are probably some docs about this but I can't find them.   Hi, When I generate Javadoc for my android project in eclipse, there are lots of warnings like cannot find symbol symbol : class TextView and warning - Tag @see: reference not found: android.app.Dialog I also tried -link http://developer.android.com/reference/ -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/ in Extra javadoc options tab in Configure Javadoc Arguments dialog of eclipse-Export Javadoc. But only -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/ is working i.e for String class link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/String.html?is-external=true is generated. but for android.app.Dialog , no link is generated. Please help !!

• errorPage directive works, but error-page in web.xml doesn't?

  I get jsp exceptions causing a forward to my error page when I put this at the top of my JSPs... <%@ page errorPage="/error.page" %> but when I try to do it globally with web.xml like so: <error-page> <exception-type>java.lang.Throwable</exception-type> <location>/error.page</location> </error-page> I just get a blank page... I've also tried putting /error.jsp in the location element.. but no love with that either.. I am triggering an exception with a jsp that just contains this: <%if(true)throw new RuntimeException("test exception");%> I do see the exception in the console from tomcat but I just can't get that error page to show without a directive on every jsp... am I missing something simple here?

• Java - Loading dlls by a relative path and hide them inside a jar

  Hi guys, I am developing a Java application that should be release as a jar. This program depends on c++ external libraries called by JNI. To load them, I use the method System.load with an absolute path and this works fine. However, I really want to "hide" them inside the jar, so I have created a package to collect them. This forces me to load an relative path - the package path. By this approach, I let the user run the jar in any directory, without being worried about linking the dll's or bored with a previous installation process. This throws the expected exception: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Expecting an absolute path of the library How can I get this working? Thanks for your help!

• Django 1.2: Dates in admin forms don't work with Locales (I10N=True)

  I have an application in Django 1.2. Language is selectable (I18N and Locale = True) When I select the english lang. in the site, the admin works OK. But when I change to any other language this is what happens with date inputs (spanish example): Correctly, the input accepts the spanish format %d/%m/%Y (Even selecting from the calendar, the date inserts as expected). But when I save the form and load it again, the date shows in the english form: %Y-%m-%d The real problem is that when I load the form to change any other text field and try to save it I get an error telling me to enter a valid date, so I have to write all dates again or change the language in the site to use the admin. I haven't specified anything for DATE_INPUT_FORMATS in settings nor have I overridden forms or models. Surely I am missing something but I can't find it. Can anybody give me a hint?
