  • How to handle form submission ASP.NET MVC Back button?

    Hi guys, i have a form which allows the user to key in the data and then submit. if everything works well on this action result, then i will redirect the user back to a thank you page. my problem right now is that when the user click on the back button, they will be able to go back to the form page and the inputs will still be there. and if the user just click on submit again, i will be getting some potential weird bugs. so in terms of asp.net mvc, what's the best way to handle users who click on the back button? thanks!

  • Jquery Flexigrid reload only if flexigrid initially ran

    Im trying to use flexigrid to show results using the values from a form. So when a person clicks a form I want it to load the flexigrid function if its the first time the person clicked the button to initialize the table. Then if someone adjusts the values in the form then clicks the button again it then reloads the flexigrid table with the new form values. How can I do this in one function?   • Best practices for developing simple ASP.NET sites (built in controls or JQuery + scripts)

    I was recently reviewing some code written by two different contractors, both were basic ASP.NET management sites. The sites allowed the user to view and edit data. Pretty much simple CRUD gateways. One group did their best to use built in ASP + AJAX Toolkit controls and did their best to use as many built in controls as possible. I found the code much easier to read and maintain. The other used jQuery and the code is heavily marked up with script blocks which are then used to build pages from javascript files. Which one is more common? The one that basically leveraged embedded HTML markup in scripts controled by javascript files screams readability and maintenance issues? Is this just the way of doing asp dev with jQuery? Assuming the second example happens a lot, are there tools that help facilitate jQuery development with visual studio? Do you think they generated the html somewhere else and just copied it in?     I'm confused regarding each() and .each()... I think I need to use both, but I'm not sure how... Basically, I have a series of checkboxes and when they're checked, I want to get the id of the closest table row and add it to an array that I can then serialize and pass to a function. So, the html looks like this: <tr id="t1"><td><input type="checkbox" name="did[]" value="232" class="bd" /></td></tr> <tr id="t2"><td><input type="checkbox" name="did[]" value="234" class="bd" /></td></tr> <tr id="t3"><td><input type="checkbox" name="did[]" value="676" class="bd" /></td></tr> <tr><td><button id="tsid" name="tsid" type="button">Send</button></td></tr> And, when (and if) the checkbox is selected, I want to get the closest tr id and store it in an array: var trids = [] And then serialize the input data and the trids array...     What is more viable to use:- Javascript Libraries: YUI, jQuery, ExtJs OR UI Programming tools: GWT, ExtGWT, SmartGWT It has become very difficult to choose between them as they are constantly increasing their capabilities to meet newer requirements. We all know the power of jQuery in UI manipulations. The latest news from Microsoft about jQuery being officially part of .Net developr’s toolkit will definitely make jQuery a preferred choice against other JavaScript libraries [See link: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2008/09/28/jquery-and-microsoft.aspx]. But on the other hand, GWT is building a framework which could be used on client as well as on the sever side. This is definitely going to make developers’ life easy as it does not require developer to be an expert in browser quirks, XMLHttpRequest, and JavaScript in order to develop high-performance web applications. It includes SDK (Java API libraries, compiler, and development server which allows to write client-side applications in Java and deploy them as JavaScript), Speed Tracer and plug-in for Eclipse. GWT is used by many products like Google Wave and AdWords. So question is still un-answered, what is more viable to use? Any thoughts?

  • Best strategy for HTML partial rendering based on multiple dropdown values

    I have a View that renders something like this: "Item 1" and "Item 2" are <tr> elements from a table. After the user change "Value 1" or "Value 2" I would like to call a Controller and put the result (some HTML snippet) in the div marked as "Result of...". I have some vague notions of JQuery. I know how to bind to the onchange event of the Select element, and call the $.ajax() function, for example. But I wonder if this can be achieved in a more efficient way in ASP.NET MVC2.

One of the input parameters is an array, this array data is hard coded and thus I want to pass the data like this: (this is how I would do it using PHP) myFunction(Array("1"=>"a","2"=>"b","3"=>"c")); Instead of $arr=Array("1"=>"a","2"=>"b","3"=>"c"); myFunction($arr); So how do I achieve this with my jQuery function, I want this to be a one liner if possible.

    I'm using the jQuery validate() plugin for some forms and it goes great. The only thing is that I have an input field that requires a special validation process. Here is how it goes: The jQuery validate plugin is called in the domready for all the required fields. Here is an example for an input: <li> <label for="nome">Nome completo*</label> <input name="nome" type="text" id="nome" class="required"/> </li> And here is how I call my special function: <li> <span id="sprytextfield1"> <label for="cpf">CPF* (xxxxxxxxxxx)</label> <input name="cpf" type="text" id="cpf" maxlength="15" class="required" /> <span class="textfieldInvalidFormatMsg">CPF Inv&aacute;lido.</span> </span> </li> And at the bottom of the file I call the Spry function: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var sprytextfield1 = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfield1","cpf"); //--> </script> Of course I call the Spry CSS and JavaScript files in the head section as well as my special-validate.js. When I just use the jQuery validate() plugin and click on the send button, the page goes automatically back to the first mistaken input field and shows the error type (not a number, not a valid email etc.). But with this new function, this "going-back-to-the-first-mistake" feature doesn't work, of course, because the validate() function sees it all good. I already added a rule for another form (about pictures upload) and it goes like this: $("#commentForm").validate({ rules: { foto34: { required: true, accept: "jpg|png|gif" } } }); Now my question is, how can I add the special validation function as a rule of the whole validation process?   • accessing embedded object with jquery not working in firefox 3.6

    Hi, this code in my plugin used to work just fine: jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0).getVersion(); and in html... <object id="embedded_obj" type="application/x-versionchecker-1.0.0.1"</object Basically trying to get the properties from an embedded object. But it looks like get(0) is returning an html object instead of the actual embedded object. For example, if I do: var launcher = jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0); for(prop in launcher){ alert(prop + ': ' + launcher[prop]); } ... it alerts things like "getElementByNode," "scrollWidth," "clientLeft," "clientTop" etc. Again this worked before Firefox 3.6. Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

  • An event for when xVal validation fails?

    I have a registration form leveraging xVal to handle all validation on the form. It works really well, with one exception: the user doesn't get feedback because another element on the page (a tip telling the user that their username will be their email address) draws on top of the span element xVal spits out when it notices a problem. If I had a way to detect when xVal has a problem with the email field, I could just toggle the visibility of that tooltip and be on my way, but I'm not sure how to do so. I know that xVal uses jquery.validate.js under the hood; is there an event or something I could tie into to do this?

  • What's a good bit of JS or JQuery for horizontally scrolling news ticker

    Hi, I am looking for a little bit of JQuery or JS that allows me to produce a horizontally scrolling "news ticker" list. The produced HTML needs to be standards compliant as well. I have tried liScroll but this has a habit of breaking (some content ends up on a second line at the start of the scroll), especially with longer lists. I have also tried this News Ticker but when a DOCTYPE is included the scrolling will jolt rather than cycle smoothly at the end of each cycle. Any suggestions are appreciated. Edit So thanks to Matt Hinze's suggestion I realised I could do what I wanted to do with JQuery animate (I require continuous scrolling not discrete scrolling like the example). However, I quickly ran into similar problems to those I was having with liScroll and after all that realised a CSS issue (as always) was responsible. Solution: liScroll - change the default 'var stripWidth = 0' to something like 100, to give a little space and avoid new line wrapping.

  • Jquery validations on form with no fields

    I have a table (in a form) populated with radio buttons (with a button for each value in a collection). If the collection is empty, nothing shows up in the table (which is fine). (I'm using Struts2) My trouble comes when validating that the user has selected one of these radio buttons when the submit button is clicked. I'm using JQUERY validations, and it works quite well UNLESS there are no radio buttons to select (collection is empty). $('#startProcessForm').validate({ rules: { selectedProcess: { required: true } }, messages: { selectedProcess: "Please select a process to start." } }); If the list IS empty, then there are no fields (radio button or otherwise) named "selectedProcess". So my question is this: How can I make "selectedProcess" exist AND fail the 'required:true' validation if there's nothing in the collection? I was thinking I could create an empty tag of the same name (selectedProcess) if the collection is empty?   • Client side page permissions - Javascript / jquery / cookies / other?

    TLDR Using plain HTML / Javascript. Want to block access to some pages (doesn't have to be super secure just to stop some peeking eyes). I thought of simply doing this by setting a cookie for each page they are allowed to visit with a value of true but thats a bit messy. Although it would work. Is there a way to set an array of values to a cookie so I can read the cookie and if a name of a page is in there then allow access with an IF statement or so on each of my pages. If they dont have the cookie just to replace my #content (entirepage) to "sorry no" etc. For example: $.cookie("Access","page1, page2, page3",{ expires: 1 }); Am already using JQuery, Jquery cookie. etc. I am up for anyway of doing this cookie idea is just an example So what do you think would be the best / most efficient way of managing this?

  • Error calling webservice using JSONP + jquery with IE on remote domain

    I have a .Net webservice on my app server that returns data formatted as JSONP. I have an HTML test client on that server which works fine using IE, Firefox, & Chrome. If I copy the same HTML to my workstation or deploy to my webserver it works with Firefox & Chrome but in IE I'm getting two javascript errors. Message: Object doesn't support this property or method Line: 1 Char: 1 Code: 0 URI: http://mydomain/WebServices/LyrisProxy/Services/Lyris/JSONP/Lyris.asmx/AddUser?lyrisInstance="1"&email="[email protected]"&fullName="My Name"&lyrisList="listname"&format=json&callback=jsonp1274109819864&_=1274109829665 Message: Member not found.     I have a bunch of elements like the following: <div class="droppableP" id="s-NSW" style="width:78px; height:63px; position: absolute; top: 223px; left: 532px;"> </div> They all have class droppableP but different id's obviously and I would like to factor the code in this script I am hacking on. The original script just has a specific selector for each of one of these divs, but the code is all alike except for the id it does things to, which is either the id of the parent or another div with a name that's related to it.
