  • Silverlight: DataContractSerializer cannot handle read only collection properties

    Hey Stackoverflowers :) For our Silverlight Project (SL4) I'm using a Model which might contain Lists (IList<AnotherModel>). According to good practice and rule CA2227:CollectionPropertiesShouldBeReadOnly the IList properties don't have a public setter. We serialize the Model using the DataContractSerializer which is working. But when I try to deserialize, a SecurityException is thrown by DataContractSerializer's ReadObject(Stream) Method, complaining that the target property (pointing to the IList property) cannot be set due to a missing public setter. Since the DataContractSerializer is sealed and neither extendable nor flexible so I currently see no chance to add some kind of additional rules which allow to deserialize the ILists using a foreach-loop on Add() method or some other method of transferring the collection items. I've also tried to dig into DataContractSerializer source (using Reflector) to create a little fork but it looks like i'd have to dig very deep and replicating whole serialization classes doesn't seem to be a viable solution. Do you see another chance to serialize a List with no public setter using the DataContractSerializer? Thank you very much in advance for your ideas! Thomas

  • how to prevent MPMoviePlayer controls from hiding

    I am trying to implement a custom MPMoviePlayer to play mp3 audio. I have got it working in portrait mode along with an overlay window over the native controls - thanks to other stackoverflow posts. The current issue is the song progress control shows up when the media window opens (blue bar taking up the first 40 odd pixels), but seems to disappear when the song starts leaving a white bar. It will then re-appear when touching the area, so functionally works fine. I would like to find a way to ensure the controls always stay visible but have not found an appropriate property in the reference. Ideally I would like to have my custom control to replace the default, more because I would like to change the position that the look and feel. This being said, I understand it is not possible as the current position in the song from a MPMoviePlayer cannot be accessed.

  • C# Pragma to suppress break on thrown error

    First off I run my applications with exceptions thrown on any error (handled or not). Second I am using a TypeConverter to convert from a user input string to the actual object. Third TypeConverter offers no TryConvert method so I'm stuck using exceptions for validation, using this rather ugly bit of code here: try { this._newValue = null; #pragma Magic_SuppressBreakErrorThrown System.Exception this._newValue = this.Converter.ConvertFromString(this._textBox.Text); #pragma Magic_ResumeBreakErrorThrown System.Exception this.HideInvalidNotification(); } catch (Exception exception) { if (exception.InnerException is FormatException) { this.ShowInvalidNotification(this._textBox.Text); } else { throw; } } I'm finding it rather distracting to have VS break execution every-time I type the - of -1, or some other invalid character. I could use something similar to this but not all the types I'm converting to have a TryParse method either. I'm hoping there may be some way to disable breaking for the section of code within the try without changing my exception settings.

  • Custom HTTPHandler causing caching or session issues?

    So i have a custom CMS running under .Net 3.5 written entirely in c#. The engine is optimized to render for mobile devices, but also server to normal web browsers. It also supports cookieless sessions. Great... I've chosen not to cache anything (including browser data) in order to control the rendering completely from data. This has been all good until lately. The engine implements a basic login function that simply logs the user state within a session object. The behavior is rather strange. User will click through the site no problem. Then login. The login will either go through successfully or just redisplay the login screen, suggesting a cached page being returned or redisplayed... If the login is successful the concurrent page hits will switch arbitrarily between logged in and logged out state... Also suggesting either the session state is not accessible or a cached page being returned. I have debugged the hell out of the thing.... including using fiddler and the like. When debugging the behavior disappears. Huh?     I have already found a lot of information about how to solve memory leaks for iPhone Obj C code. The last two leaks keep me puzzled, I'm probably overlooking something. Maybe you can spot it. Instruments reports 2 leaks for the following code (part of a UIViewController subclass): (1) UIWebView *webView = [[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, self.view.bounds.size.width, self.view.bounds.size.height - LOWER_VERT_WINDOW_MARGIN)]; (2) webView.scalesPageToFit = YES; (3) webView.dataDetectorTypes = UIDataDetectorTypeNone; (4) (5) NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:self.fullPathFileName isDirectory:NO]; (6) NSMutableURLRequest *urlRequest = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url]; (7) [webView loadRequest:urlRequest]; (8) [urlRequest release], urlRequest = nil; (9) [self.view addSubview:webView]; (10) [webView release], webView = nil; Instruments claims 128 bytes are leaking in line 1, as well as 256 bytes in line 4. No idea if it means line 3 or line 5. Does anybody have a clue what I'm overlooking?

  • Publishing toolchain

    Hello all, I have a book project which I'd like to start sooner than later. This would follow an agile-like publishing workflow, i.e: publish early and often. It is meant to be self-publsihed by me and I'm not really looking to paper-publish it, even though we never know. If I weren't a geek, I'd probably have already started writting in Word or any other WYSIWYG tool and just export to PDF. However, we know it is not the best solution, and emacs rules my text-editing life, so, the output format should be as simple as possible and be text-based. I've thought about the following options: 1) Use orgmode and export to PDF; 2) Use markdown mode and export to PDF; 3) Use something similar to what the guys @ Pragmatic Progammers do: A XML + XSLT + LaTeX. More complex, but much more control over the style. Any other ideas / references ? I want to start writting as soon as possible. In fact, I already have a draft in an org-formatted file. However, I do want to have and use the full power of LaTex later on to format it the way I want and make it look fabulous :) Thanks in advance, Marcelo.

    I'm going to give an example of using System.Data.SQLite.DLL which is a mixed assembly with unmanaged code: If I execute this : var assembly= Assembly.LoadFrom("System.Data.SQLite.DLL") No exceptions are thrown, but if I do this : var rawAssembly = File.ReadAllBytes("System.Data.SQLite.DLL"); var assembly = Assembly.Load(rawAssembly); The CLR throws a FileLoadException with "Unverifiable code failed policy check. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131402)". Let's say I'm trying to load this assembly on a child AppDomain, how can I customize the AppDomain's security to allow me pass the policy check?

  • Optional non-system type parameters

    C#4.0 obviously brings optional parameters (which I've been waiting for, for quite some time). However it seems that because only system types can be const that I cannot use any class/struct which I have created, as an optional param. Is there a some way which allows me to use a more complex type as an optional parameter. Or is this one of the realities that one must just live with?

    I have setup a project using both Jdo and Jpa. I used Jpa Annotation to Declare my Entity. Then I setup my testCases based on LocalTestHelper (from Google App Engine Documentation). When I run the test, a call to makePersistent of Jdo:PersistenceManager is perfectly OK; a call to persist of Jpa:EntityManager raised an error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Type ("org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.model.ExampleModel") is not that of an entity but needs to be for this operation at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.assertEntity(EntityManagerImpl.java:888) at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.persist(EntityManagerImpl.java:385) Caused by: org.datanucleus.exceptions.NoPersistenceInformationException: The class "org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.model.ExampleModel" is required to be persistable yet no Meta-Data/Annotations can be found for this class. Please check that the Meta-Data/annotations is defined in a valid file location. at org.datanucleus.ObjectManagerImpl.assertClassPersistable(ObjectManagerImpl.java:3894) at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.assertEntity(EntityManagerImpl.java:884) ... 27 more How can it be the case? For Emacs, CarbonEmacs, XEmacs, and Aquamacs. Are there more? Which of these are ready for prime-time? If it's a tough call, what are the trade-offs? Are all of these still being maintained? No discussion of Vim vs. Emacs, if you don't mind, or comparisons with other editors.

  • Unable to use JConsole with Tomcat running as windows service

    I am running tomcat 6.0.18 as a windows service. In the service applet the jvm is configured default, i.e. it is using jvm.dll of the JRE. I am trying to monitor this application with JConsole but cannot connect to it locally. I added the parameter -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote (which works when starting tomcat with the start.bat script). But the jvm does not seem to pick up the parameter.

    I have the following problem deploying my application. It uses JMS and a remote openMQ for communication between servers. The problem is that the connection is not fully reliable so it can be up or down. For reconnecting I set the jms reconnect glassfish property so it reconnects if at some moment the connection gets lost. The problem arises when i try to deploy the application and there is no connection. It looks like it keeps retrying the connection but the application does not finish deployment until connection is available. Is it possible to configure it in any way that the deployment continues even if there is no connection and keeps retrying until there is connection available? Thanks a lot.

  • Duration of Excessive GC Time in "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded"

    Occasionally, somewhere between once every 2 days to once every 2 weeks, my application crashes in a seemingly random location in the code with: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded. If I google this error I come to this SO question and that lead me to this piece of sun documentation which expains: The parallel collector will throw an OutOfMemoryError if too much time is being spent in garbage collection: if more than 98% of the total time is spent in garbage collection and less than 2% of the heap is recovered, an OutOfMemoryError will be thrown. This feature is designed to prevent applications from running for an extended period of time while making little or no progress because the heap is too small. If necessary, this feature can be disabled by adding the option -XX:-UseGCOverheadLimit to the command line. Which tells me that my application is apparently spending 98% of the total time in garbage collection to recover only 2% of the heap. But 98% of what time? 98% of the entire two weeks the application has been running? 98% of the last millisecond? I'm trying to determine a best approach to actually solving this issue rather than just using -XX:-UseGCOverheadLimit but I feel a need to better understand the issue I'm solving.

  • Hiding a UINavigationController's UIToolbar during viewWillDisappear:

    I've got an iPhone application with a UITableView menu. When a row in the table is selected, the appropriate view controller is pushed onto the application's UINavigationController stack. My issue is that the MenuViewController does not need a toolbar, but the UIViewControllers which are pushed onto the stack do. Each UIViewController that gets pushed calls setToolbarHidden:animated: in viewDidAppear:. To hide the toolbar, I call setToolbarHidden:animated: in viewWillDisappear:. Showing the toolbar works, such that when the pushed view appears the toolbar slides up and the view resizes correctly. However, when the back button is pressed the toolbar slides down but the view does not resize. This means that there's a black strip along the bottom of the view as the other view transitions in. I've tried adding the toolbar's height to the height of the view prior to hiding the toolbar, but this causes the view to be animated during the transition so that there's still a black bar. I realise I can manage my own UIToolbar, but I'd like to use UINavigationControllers built in UIToolbar for convenience. This forum post mentions the same issue, but no workaround is mentioned.

    Hello, I created a query for the zend framework, in which I try to retrieve the sum of a column, in this case the column named 'time'. This is the query I use: $this->timequery = $this->db_tasks->fetchAll($this->db_tasks->select()->from('tasks', 'SUM(time)')->where('projectnumber =' . $this->value_project)); $this->view->sumtime = $this->timequery; Echoing the query tells me this is right. But I can't echo the result properly. Currently I'm using: echo $this->sumtime['SUM(time)']; Returning the following error: Catchable fatal error: Object of class Zend_Db_Table_Row could not be converted to string in C:\xampp\htdocs\BManagement\application\views\scripts\tasks\index.phtml on line 46 Line 46 being the line with the echo in my view. I've been searching now for two days on how to figure this out, or achieve the same result in a different way. Tried to serialize the value, but that didn't work either. Is there somebody who knows how to achieve the total sum of a database column? Any help is greatly appriciated! note: Pretty new to zend framework...

    Hello everyone. In a Latex Report I am making I have to write a regex. There is only one in the whole report, so I don't really want to use packages and so on. This is the regex I am talking about: ^\"((\w|\s)+)\"$ I came up with this for Latex: \grave{ }\backslash\"'((\backslash w\| \backslash s)+)\backslash \"' \backslash \$ This gives me like 10 errors, and I can't really see what is wrong.
