  • Issue with Sharepoint 2010 application page

    - by Matt Moriarty
    I am relatively new to Sharepoint and am using version 2010. I am having a problem with the following code in an application page I am trying to build: using System; using Microsoft.SharePoint; using Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls; using System.Text; using Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration; using Microsoft.Office.Server; using Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles; using Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities; namespace SharePointProject5.Layouts.SharePointProject5 { public partial class ApplicationPage1 : LayoutsPageBase { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { SPContext context = SPContext.Current; StringBuilder output = new StringBuilder(); using(SPSite site = context.Site) using (SPWeb web = site.AllWebs["BDC_SQL"]) { UserProfileManager upmanager = new UserProfileManager(ServerContext.GetContext(site)); string ListMgr = ""; string ADMgr = ""; bool allowUpdates = web.AllowUnsafeUpdates; web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true; web.Update(); SPListCollection listcollection = web.Lists; SPList list = listcollection["BDC_SQL"]; foreach (SPListItem item in list.Items) { output.AppendFormat("<br>From List - Name & manager: {0} , {1}", item["ADName"], item["Manager_ADName"]); UserProfile uProfile = upmanager.GetUserProfile(item["ADName"].ToString()); output.AppendFormat("<br>From Prof - Name & manager: {0} , {1}", uProfile[PropertyConstants.DistinguishedName], uProfile[PropertyConstants.Manager]); ListMgr = item["Manager_ADName"].ToString(); ADMgr = Convert.ToString(uProfile[PropertyConstants.Manager]); if (ListMgr != ADMgr) { output.AppendFormat("<br>This record requires updating from {0} to {1}", uProfile[PropertyConstants.Manager], item["Manager_ADName"]); uProfile[PropertyConstants.Manager].Value = ListMgr; uProfile.Commit(); output.AppendFormat("<br>This record has had its manager updated"); } else { output.AppendFormat("<br>This record does not need to be updated"); } } web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = allowUpdates; web.Update(); } Label1.Text = output.ToString(); } } } Everything worked fine up until I added in the 'uProfile.Commit();' line. Now I am getting the following error message: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was unhandled by user code Message=Updates are currently disallowed on GET requests. Does anyone have any guidance for me? It would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Matt.

  • How to Configure Windows Machine to Allow File Sharing with DNS Alias

    - by Michael Ferrante
    I have not seen a single article posted anywhere online that brings together all the settings one would need to do to make this work properly on Windows, so I thought I would post it here. To facilitate failover schemes, a common technique is to use DNS CNAME records (DNS Aliases) for different machine roles. Then instead of changing the Windows computername of the actual machine name, one can switch a DNS record to point to a new host. This can work on Microsoft Windows machines, but to make it work with file sharing the following configuration steps need to be taken. Outline The Problem The Solution Allowing other machines to use filesharing via the DNS Alias (DisableStrictNameChecking) Allowing server machine to use filesharing with itself via the DNS Alias (BackConnectionHostNames) Providing browse capabilities for multiple NetBIOS names (OptionalNames) Register the Kerberos service principal names (SPNs) for other Windows functions like Printing (setspn) References 1. The Problem On Windows machines, file sharing can work via the computer name, with or without full qualification, or by the IP Address. By default, however, filesharing will not work with arbitrary DNS aliases. To enable filesharing and other Windows services to work with DNS aliases, you must make registry changes as detailed below and reboot the machine. 2. The Solution Allowing other machines to use filesharing via the DNS Alias (DisableStrictNameChecking) This change alone will allow other machines on the network to connect to the machine using any arbitrary hostname. (However this change will not allow a machine to connect to itself via a hostname, see BackConnectionHostNames below). Edit the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters and add a value DisableStrictNameChecking of type DWORD set to 1. Allowing server machine to use filesharing with itself via the DNS Alias (BackConnectionHostNames) This change is necessary for a DNS alias to work with filesharing from a machine to find itself. This creates the Local Security Authority host names that can be referenced in an NTLM authentication request. To do this, follow these steps for all the nodes on the client computer: To the registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0, add new Multi-String Value BackConnectionHostNames In the Value data box, type the CNAME or the DNS alias, that is used for the local shares on the computer, and then click OK. Note: Type each host name on a separate line. Providing browse capabilities for multiple NetBIOS names (OptionalNames) Allows ability to see the network alias in the network browse list. Edit the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters and add a value OptionalNames of type Multi-String Add in a newline delimited list of names that should be registered under the NetBIOS browse entries Names should match NetBIOS conventions (i.e. not FQDN, just hostname) Register the Kerberos service principal names (SPNs) for other Windows functions like Printing (setspn) NOTE: Should not need to do this for basic functions to work, documented here for completeness. We had one situation in which the DNS alias was not working because there was an old SPN record interfering, so if other steps aren't working check if there are any stray SPN records. You must register the Kerberos service principal names (SPNs), the host name, and the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) for all the new DNS alias (CNAME) records. If you do not do this, a Kerberos ticket request for a DNS alias (CNAME) record may fail and return the error code KDC_ERR_S_SPRINCIPAL_UNKNOWN. To view the Kerberos SPNs for the new DNS alias records, use the Setspn command-line tool (setspn.exe). The Setspn tool is included in Windows Server 2003 Support Tools. You can install Windows Server 2003 Support Tools from the Support\Tools folder of the Windows Server 2003 startup disk. How to use the tool to list all records for a computername: setspn -L computername To register the SPN for the DNS alias (CNAME) records, use the Setspn tool with the following syntax: setspn -A host/your_ALIAS_name computername setspn -A host/your_ALIAS_name.company.com computername 3. • postfix relaying all mail through office365 problems

    - by amrith
    This is a rather long question with a long list of things tried and travails so please bear with me. The summary is this. I am able to relay email from ubuntu through office365 using postfix; the configuration works. It only works as one of the users; more specifically the user who authenticates against office365 is the only valid "from" More details follow. I have a machine in Amazon's cloud on which I run a bunch of jobs and would like to have statuses mailed over to me. I use office365 at work so I want to relay mail through office365. I'm most familiar with postfix so I used that as the MTA. Configuration is ubuntu 12.04LTS; I've installed postfix and mail-utils. For this example, let me say my company is "company.com" and the machine in question (through an elastic IP and a DNS entry) is called "plaything.company.com". hostname is set to "plaything.company.com", so is /etc/mailname On plaything, I have the following users registered alpha, bravo, and charlie. I have the following configuration files. alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases append_dot_mydomain = no biff = no config_directory = /etc/postfix inet_interfaces = all inet_protocols = ipv4 mailbox_size_limit = 0 mydestination = plaything.company.com, localhost.company.com, , localhost myhostname = plaything.company.com mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 [::ffff:127.0.0.0]/104 [::1]/128 myorigin = /etc/mailname readme_directory = no recipient_delimiter = + relayhost = [smtp.office365.com]:587 sender_canonical_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sender_canonical smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_tls_security_options = noanonymous smtp_tls_CAfile = /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtp_scache smtp_use_tls = yes smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu) smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtpd_scache smtpd_use_tls = yes As the machine is called plaything.company.com I went through the exercise of registering all the appropriate DNS entries to make office365 recognize that I owned plaything.company.com and allowed me to create a user called [email protected] in office365. In office365, I setup [email protected] as having another email address of [email protected]. Then, I made the following sender_canonical [email protected] [email protected] I created a sasl_passwd file that reads: smtp.office365.com [email protected]:123456password123456 let's just say that the password for [email protected] is 1234...456 With all this setup, login as alpha and mail [email protected] Cc: Subject: test test and the whole thing works wonderfully. email gets sent off by postfix, TLS works like a champ, authenticates as daemon@... and [email protected] in Office365 gets an email message. The issue comes up when logged in as bravo to the machine. sender is [email protected] and office365 says: status=bounced (host smtp.office365.com[132.245.12.25] said: 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender (in reply to end of DATA command)) this is because I'm trying to send mail as bravo@... and authenticating with office365 as daemon@.... The reason it works with alpha@... is because in office365, I setup [email protected] as having another email address of [email protected]. In Postfix Relay to Office365, Miles Erickson answers the question thusly: Don't send mail to Office365 as a user from your Office365-hosted e-mail domain. Use a subdomain instead, e.g. [email protected] instead of [email protected]. It wouldn't hurt to set up an SPF record for services.mydomain.com or whatever you decide to use. Don't authenticate against mail.messaging.microsoft.com as an Office365 user. Just connect on port 25 and deliver the mail to your domain as any foreign SMTP agent would do. OK, I've done #1, I have those records on DNS but for the most part they are not relevant once Office365 recognizes that I own the domain. Here are those records: CNAME records: - msoid.plaything.company.com - autodiscover.plaything.company.com MX record: - plaything.company.com (plaything-company-com.mail.protection.outlook.com) TXT record: - plaything.company.com (v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all) I've tried #2 but no matter what I do, office365 just blows away the connection with "not authenticated". I can try even a simple telnet to port 25 and attempt to send and it doesn't work. 250 BY2PR01CA007.outlook.office365.com Hello [54.221.245.236] 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated Connection closed by foreign host. Is there someone out there who has this kind of a configuration working where multiple users on a linux machine are able to relay mail using postfix through office365? There has to be someone out there doing this who can tell me what is wrong with my setup ...

  • Delphi: Using Enumerators to filter TList<T: class> by class type?

    - by afrazier
    Okay, this might be confusing. What I'm trying to do is use an enumerator to only return certain items in a generic list based on class type. Given the following hierarchy: type TShapeClass = class of TShape; TShape = class(TObject) private FId: Integer; public function ToString: string; override; property Id: Integer read FId write FId; end; TCircle = class(TShape) private FDiameter: Integer; public property Diameter: Integer read FDiameter write FDiameter; end; TSquare = class(TShape) private FSideLength: Integer; public property SideLength: Integer read FSideLength write FSideLength; end; TShapeList = class(TObjectList<TShape>) end; How can I extend TShapeList such that I can do something similar to the following: procedure Foo; var ShapeList: TShapeList; Shape: TShape; Circle: TCircle; Square: TSquare; begin // Create ShapeList and fill with TCircles and TSquares for Circle in ShapeList<TCircle> do begin // do something with each TCircle in ShapeList end; for Square in ShapeList<TSquare> do begin // do something with each TSquare in ShapeList end; for Shape in ShapeList<TShape> do begin // do something with every object in TShapeList end; end; I've tried extending TShapeList using an adapted version of Primoz Gabrijelcic's bit on Parameterized Enumerators using a factory record as follows: type TShapeList = class(TObjectList<TShape>) public type TShapeFilterEnumerator<T: TShape> = record private FShapeList: TShapeList; FClass: TShapeClass; FIndex: Integer; function GetCurrent: T; public constructor Create(ShapeList: TShapeList); function MoveNext: Boolean; property Current: T read GetCurrent; end; TShapeFilterFactory<T: TShape> = record private FShapeList: TShapeList; public constructor Create(ShapeList: TShapeList); function GetEnumerator: TShapeFilterEnumerator<T>; end; function FilteredEnumerator<T: TShape>: TShapeFilterFactory<T>; end; Then I modified Foo to be: procedure Foo; var ShapeList: TShapeList; Shape: TShape; Circle: TCircle; Square: TSquare; begin // Create ShapeList and fill with TCircles and TSquares for Circle in ShapeList.FilteredEnumerator<TCircle> do begin // do something with each TCircle in ShapeList end; for Square in ShapeList.FilteredEnumerator<TSquare> do begin // do something with each TSquare in ShapeList end; for Shape in ShapeList.FilteredEnumerator<TShape> do begin // do something with every object in TShapeList end; end; However, Delphi 2010 is throwing an error when I try to compile Foo about Incompatible types: TCircle and TShape. If I comment out the TCircle loop, then I get a similar error about TSquare. If I comment the TSquare loop out as well, the code compiles and works. Well, it works in the sense that it enumerates every object since they all descend from TShape. The strange thing is that the line number that the compiler indicates is 2 lines beyond the end of my file. In my demo project, it indicated line 177, but there's only 175 lines. Is there any way to make this work? I'd like to be able to assign to Circle directly without going through any typecasts or checking in my for loop itself.

  • Actionscript multiple file upload, with parameter passing is not working

    - by Metropolis
    Hey everyone, First off, I am very bad at flash/actionscript, it is not my main programming language. I have created my own file upload flash app that has been working great for me up until this point. It uses PHP to upload the files and sends back a status message which gets displayed in a status box to the user. Now I have run into a situation where I need the HTML to pass a parameter to the Actionscript, and then to the PHP file using POST. I have tried to set this up just like adobe has it on http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=17_Networking_and_communications_7.html without success. Here is my Actionscript code import fl.controls.TextArea; //Set filters var imageTypes:FileFilter = new FileFilter("Images (*.jpg, *.jpeg, *.gif, *.png)", "*.jpg; *.jpeg; *.gif; *.png"); var textTypes:FileFilter = new FileFilter("Documents (*.txt, *.rtf, *.pdf, *.doc)", "*.txt; *.rtf; *.pdf; *.doc"); var allTypes:Array = new Array(textTypes, imageTypes); var fileRefList:FileReferenceList = new FileReferenceList(); //Add event listeners for its various fileRefList functions below upload_buttn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, browseBox); fileRefList.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, selectHandler); function browseBox(event:MouseEvent):void { fileRefList.browse(allTypes); } function selectHandler(event:Event):void { var phpRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ajax/upload.ajax.php"); var flashVars:URLVariables = objectToURLVariables(this.root.loaderInfo); phpRequest.method = URLRequestMethod.POST; phpRequest.data = flashVars; var file:FileReference; var files:FileReferenceList = FileReferenceList(event.target); var selectedFileArray:Array = files.fileList; var listener:Object = new Object(); for (var i:uint = 0; i < selectedFileArray.length; i++) { file = FileReference(selectedFileArray[i]); try { file.addEventListener(DataEvent.UPLOAD_COMPLETE_DATA, phpResponse); file.upload(phpRequest); } catch (error:Error) { status_txt.text = file.name + " Was not uploaded correctly (" + error.message + ")"; } } } function phpResponse(event:DataEvent):void { var file:FileReference = FileReference(event.target); status_txt.htmlText += event.data; } function objectToURLVariables(parameters:Object):URLVariables { var paramsToSend:URLVariables = new URLVariables(); for(var i:String in parameters) { if(i!=null) { if(parameters[i] is Array) paramsToSend[i] = parameters[i]; else paramsToSend[i] = parameters[i].toString(); } } return paramsToSend; } The flashVars variable is the one that should contain the values from the HTML file. But whenever I run the program and output the variables in the PHP file I receive the following. //Using this command on the PHP page print_r($_POST); //I get this for output Array ( [Filename] => testfile.txt [Upload] => Submit Query ) Its almost like the parameters are getting over written or are just not working at all. Thanks for any help, Metropolis

  • Need suggestions on how to extract data from .docx/.doc file then into mssql

    - by DarkPP
    I'm suppose to develop an automated application for my project, it will load past-year examination/exercises paper (word file), detect the sections accordingly, extract the questions and images in that section, and then store the questions and images into the database. (Preview of the question paper is at the bottom of this post) So I need some suggestions on how to extract data from a word file, then inserting them into a database. Currently I have a few methods to do so, however I have no idea how I could implement them when the file contains textboxes with background image. The question has to link with the image. Method One (Make use of ms office interop) Load the word file - Extract image, save into a folder - Extract text, save as .txt - Extract text from .txt then store in db Question: How i detect the section and question. How I link the image to the question. Extract text from word file (Working): private object missing = Type.Missing; private object sFilename = @"C:\temp\questionpaper.docx"; private object sFilename2 = @"C:\temp\temp.txt"; private object readOnly = true; object fileFormat = Word.WdSaveFormat.wdFormatText; private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Word.Application wWordApp = new Word.Application(); wWordApp.DisplayAlerts = Word.WdAlertLevel.wdAlertsNone; Word.Document dFile = wWordApp.Documents.Open(ref sFilename, ref missing, ref readOnly, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing); dFile.SaveAs(ref sFilename2, ref fileFormat, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing,ref missing, ref missing,ref missing,ref missing,ref missing,ref missing, ref missing,ref missing); dFile.Close(ref missing, ref missing, ref missing); } Extract image from word file (Doesn't work on image inside textbox): private Word.Application wWordApp; private int m_i; private object missing = Type.Missing; private object filename = @"C:\temp\questionpaper.docx"; private object readOnly = true; private void CopyFromClipbordInlineShape(String imageIndex) { Word.InlineShape inlineShape = wWordApp.ActiveDocument.InlineShapes[m_i]; inlineShape.Select(); wWordApp.Selection.Copy(); Computer computer = new Computer(); if (computer.Clipboard.GetDataObject() != null) { System.Windows.Forms.IDataObject data = computer.Clipboard.GetDataObject(); if (data.GetDataPresent(System.Windows.Forms.DataFormats.Bitmap)) { Image image = (Image)data.GetData(System.Windows.Forms.DataFormats.Bitmap, true); image.Save("C:\\temp\\DoCremoveImage" + imageIndex + ".png", System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Png); } } } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { wWordApp = new Word.Application(); wWordApp.Documents.Open(ref filename, ref missing, ref readOnly, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing, ref missing); try { for (int i = 1; i <= wWordApp.ActiveDocument.InlineShapes.Count; i++) { m_i = i; CopyFromClipbordInlineShape(Convert.ToString(i)); } } finally { object save = false; wWordApp.Quit(ref save, ref missing, ref missing); wWordApp = null; } } Method Two Unzip the word file (.docx) - Copy the media(image) folder, store somewhere - Parse the XML file - Store the text in db Any suggestion/help would be greatly appreciated :D Preview of the word file: (backup link: http://i.stack.imgur.com/YF1Ap.png)

  • Extjs4: editable rowbody

    - by peter
    in my first ExtJs4 project i use a editable grid with the feature rowbody to have a big textfield displayed under each row. I want it to be editable on a dblclick. I succeeded in doing so by replacing the innerHTML of the rowbody by a textarea but the special keys don't do what they are supposed to do (move the cursor). If a use the textarea in a normal field i don't have this probem. Same problem in IE7 and FF4 gridInfo = Ext.create('Ext.ux.LiveSearchGridPanel', { id: 'gridInfo', height: '100%', width: '100%', store: storeInfo, columnLines: true, selType: 'cellmodel', columns: [ {text: "Titel", flex: 1, dataIndex: 'titel', field:{xtype:'textfield'}}, {text: "Tags", id: "tags", flex: 1, dataIndex: 'tags', field:{xtype:'textfield'}}, {text: "Hits", dataIndex: 'hits'}, {text: "Last Updated", renderer: Ext.util.Format.dateRenderer('d/m/Y'), dataIndex: 'lastChange'} ], plugins: [ Ext.create('Ext.grid.plugin.CellEditing', { clicksToEdit: 1 }) ], features: [ { ftype: 'rowbody', getAdditionalData: function(data, idx, record, orig) { var headerCt = this.view.headerCt, colspan = headerCt.getColumnCount(); return { rowBody: data.desc, //the big textfieldvalue, can't use a textarea here 8< rowBodyCls: this.rowBodyCls, rowBodyColspan: colspan }; } }, {ftype: 'rowwrap'} ] }); me.on('rowbodydblclick', function(gridView, el, event, o) { ... rb = td.down('.x-grid-rowbody').dom; var value = rb.innerText?rb.innerText:rb.textContent; rb.innerHTML = ''; Ext.create('Ext.form.field.TextArea', { id: 'textarea1', value : value, renderTo: rb, border: false, enterIsSpecial: true, enableKeyEvents: true, disableKeyFilter: true, listeners: { 'blur': function(el, o) { rb.innerHTML = el.value; }, 'specialkey': function(field, e){ console.log(e.keyCode); //captured but nothing happens } } }).show(); damn, can't publish my own solution, looks like somebody else has to answer, anyway, here is the function that works function editDesc(me, gridView, el, event, o) { var width = Ext.fly(el).up('table').getWidth(); var rb = event.target; var value = rb.innerText?rb.innerText:rb.textContent; rb.innerHTML = '' var txt = Ext.create('Ext.form.field.TextArea', { value : value, renderTo: rb, border: false, width: width, height: 300, enterIsSpecial: true, disableKeyFilter: true, listeners: { 'blur': function(el, o) { var value = el.value.replace('\n','<br>') rb.innerHTML = value; }, 'specialkey': function(field, e){ e.stopPropagation(); } } }); var txtTextarea = Ext.fly(rb).down('textarea'); txtTextarea.dom.style.color = 'blue'; txtTextarea.dom.style.fontSize = '11px'; } Hi Molecule Man, as an alternative to the approach above i tried the Ext.Editor. It works but i want it inline but when i render it to the rowbody, the field blanks and i have no editor, any ideas ? gridInfo = Ext.create('Ext.grid.Panel', { id: 'gridInfo', height: '100%', width: '100%', store: storeInfo, columnLines: true, selType: 'cellmodel', viewConfig: {stripeRows: false, trackOver: true}, columns: [ {text: "Titel", flex: 1, dataIndex: 'titel', field:{xtype:'textfield'}}, ... {text: "Last Updated", renderer: Ext.util.Format.dateRenderer('d/m/Y'), dataIndex: 'lastChange'} ], plugins: [ Ext.create('Ext.grid.plugin.CellEditing', { clicksToEdit: 1 }) ], features: [ { ftype: 'rowbody', getAdditionalData: function(data, idx, record, orig) { var headerCt = this.view.headerCt, colspan = headerCt.getColumnCount(); return { rowBody: data.desc, rowBodyCls: this.rowBodyCls, rowBodyColspan: colspan }; } } ], listeners:{ rowbodyclick: function(gridView, el, event) { //werkt editDesc(this, gridView, el, event); } } }); function editDesc(me, gridView, el, event, o) { var rb = event.target; me.txt = new Ext.Editor({ field: {xtype: 'textarea'}, updateEl: true, cancelOnEsc: true, floating: true, renderTo: rb //when i do this, the field becomes empty and i don't get the editor }); me.txt.startEdit(el); }

  • Difference between SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 for inserting multiple rows with XML

    - by Sam Dahan
    I am using the following SQL code for inserting multiple rows of data in a table. The data is passed to the stored procedure using an XML variable : INSERT INTO MyTable SELECT SampleTime = T.Item.value('SampleTime[1]', 'datetime'), Volume1 = T.Item.value('Volume1[1]', 'float'), Volume2 = T.Item.value('Volume2[1]', 'float') FROM @xml.nodes('//Root/MyRecord') T(item) I have a whole bunch of unit tests to verify that I am inserting the right information, the right number of records, etc.. when I call the stored procedure. All fine and dandy - that is, until we began to monkey around with the compatibility level of the database. The code above worked beautifully as long as we kept the compatibility level of the DB at 90 (SQL 2005). When we set the compatibility level at 100 (SQL 2008), the unit tests failed, because the stored procedure using the code above times out. The unit tests are dropping the database, re-creating it from scripts, and running the tests on the brand new DB, so it's not - I think - a question of the 'old compatibility level' sticking around. Using the SQL Management studio, I made up a quick test SQL script. Using the same XML chunk, I alter the DB compat level , truncate the table, then use the code above to insert 650 rows. When the level is 90 (SQL 2005), it runs in milliseconds. When the level is 100 (SQL 2008) it sometimes takes over a minute, sometimes runs in milliseconds. I'd appreciate any insight anyone might have into that. EDIT The script takes over a minute to run with my actual data, which has more rows than I show here, is a real table, and has an index. With the following example code, the difference goes between milliseconds and around 5 seconds. --use [master] --ALTER DATABASE MyDB SET compatibility_level =100 use [MyDB] declare @xml xml set @xml = '<?xml version="1.0"?> <Root xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Record> <SampleTime>2009-01-24T00:00:00</SampleTime> <Volume1>0</Volume1> <Volume2>0</Volume2> </Record> ..... 653 records, sample time spaced out 4 hours ........ </Root>' DECLARE @myTable TABLE( ID int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [SampleTime] [datetime] NOT NULL, [Volume1] [float] NULL, [Volume2] [float] NULL) INSERT INTO @myTable select T.Item.value('SampleTime[1]', 'datetime') as SampleTime, Volume1 = T.Item.value('Volume1[1]', 'float'), Volume2 = T.Item.value('Volume2[1]', 'float') FROM @xml.nodes('//Root/Record') T(item) I uncomment the 2 lines at the top, select them and run just that (the ALTER DATABASE statement), then comment the 2 lines, deselect any text and run the whole thing. When I change from 90 to 100, it runs all the time in 5 seconds (I change the level once, but I run the series several times to see if I have consistent results). When I change from 100 to 90, it runs in milliseconds all the time. Just so you can play with it too. I am using SQL Server 2008 R2 standard edition.

  • seg fault caused by malloc and sscanf in a function

    - by Framester
    Hi, I want to open a text file (see below), read the first int in every line and store it in an array, but I get an segmentation fault. I got rid of all gcc warnings, I read through several tutorials I found on the net and searched stackoverflow for solutions, but I could't make out, what I am doing wrong. It works when I have everything in the main function (see example 1), but not when I transfer it to second function (see example 2 further down). In example 2 I get, when I interpret gdb correctly a seg fault at sscanf (line,"%i",classes[i]);. I'm afraid, it could be something trivial, but I already wasted one day on it. Thanks in advance. [Example 1] Even though that works with everything in main: #include<stdio.h> #include<stdlib.h> #include<string.h> const int LENGTH = 1024; int main() { char *filename="somedatafile.txt"; int *classes; int lines; FILE *pfile = NULL; char line[LENGTH]; pfile=fopen(filename,"r"); int numlines=0; char *p; while(fgets(line,LENGTH,pfile)){ numlines++; } rewind(pfile); classes=(int *)malloc(numlines*sizeof(int)); if(classes == NULL){ printf("\nMemory error."); exit(1); } int i=0; while(fgets(line,LENGTH,pfile)){ printf("\n"); p = strtok (line," "); p = strtok (NULL, ", "); sscanf (line,"%i",&classes[i]); i++; } fclose(pfile); return 1; } [Example 2] This does not with the functionality transfered to a function: #include<stdio.h> #include<stdlib.h> #include<string.h> const int LENGTH = 1024; void read_data(int **classes,int *lines, char *filename){ FILE *pfile = NULL; char line[LENGTH]; pfile=fopen(filename,"r"); int numlines=0; char *p; while(fgets(line,LENGTH,pfile)){ numlines++; } rewind(pfile); * classes=(int *)malloc(numlines*sizeof(int)); if(*classes == NULL){ printf("\nMemory error."); exit(1); } int i=0; while(fgets(line,LENGTH,pfile)){ printf("\n"); p = strtok (line," "); p = strtok (NULL, ", "); sscanf (line,"%i",classes[i]); i++; } fclose(pfile); *lines=numlines; } int main() { char *filename="somedatafile.txt"; int *classes; int lines; read_data(&classes, &lines,filename) ; for(int i=0;i<lines;i++){ printf("\nclasses[i]=%i",classes[i]); } return 1; } [Content of somedatafile.txt] 50 21 77 0 28 0 27 48 22 2 55 0 92 0 0 26 36 92 56 4 53 0 82 0 52 -5 29 30 2 1 37 0 76 0 28 18 40 48 8 1 37 0 79 0 34 -26 43 46 2 1 85 0 88 -4 6 1 3 83 80 5 56 0 81 0 -4 11 25 86 62 4 55 -1 95 -3 54 -4 40 41 2 1 53 8 77 0 28 0 23 48 24 4 37 0 101 -7 28 0 64 73 8 1 ...

  • Input string was not in the correct format using int.Parse

    - by JDWebs
    I have recently been making a login 'representation' which is not secure. So before answering, please note I am aware of security risks etc., and this will not be on a live site. Also note I am a beginner :P. For my login representation, I am using LINQ to compare values of a DDL to select a username and a Textbox to enter a password, when a login button is clicked. However, an error is thrown 'Input string was not in the correct format', when using int.Parse. Front End: <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Login_Test.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login_Login_Test" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title>Login Test</title> </head> <body> <form id="LoginTest" runat="server"> <div> <asp:DropDownList ID="DDL_Username" runat="server" Height="20px" DataTextField="txt"> </asp:DropDownList> <br /> <asp:TextBox ID="TB_Password" runat="server" TextMode="Password"></asp:TextBox> <br /> <asp:Button ID="B_Login" runat="server" onclick="B_Login_Click" Text="Login" /> <br /> <asp:Literal ID="LI_Result" runat="server"></asp:Literal> </div> </form> </body> </html> Back End: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; public partial class Login_Login_Test : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Page.IsPostBack) { Binder(); } } private void Binder() { using (DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext()) { DDL_Username.DataSource = from x in db.DT_Honeys select new { id = x.UsernameID, txt = x.Username }; DDL_Username.DataValueField = "id"; DDL_Username.DataTextField = "txt"; DDL_Username.DataBind(); } } protected void B_Login_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (TB_Password.Text != "") { using (DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext()) { DT_Honey blah = new DT_Honey(); blah = db.DT_Honeys.SingleOrDefault(x => x.UsernameID == int.Parse(DDL_Username.SelectedValue.ToString())); if (blah == null) { LI_Result.Text = "Something went wrong :/"; } if (blah.Password == TB_Password.Text) { LI_Result.Text = "Credentials recognised :-)"; } else { LI_Result.Text = "Error with credentials :-("; } } } } } I am aware this problem is very common, but none of the help I have found online is useful/relevant.   • How To Edit XML File

    - by thebourneid
    I have a movie collection catalogue with local links to folders and files for an easy access. Recently I reorganaized my entire hard disk space and I need to update the links and I'm trying to do that automatically with perl. I can export the data in a xml file and import it again. I can extract the new filepaths with the use of File::Find but I'm stuck with two problems. I have no idea how to connect the $title from the new filepath with the corresponding $title from the xml file. I'm dealing with such files for the first time and I don't know how to proceed with the replacement process. Here is what I've done till now use strict; use warnings; use File::Basename; use File::Find; use File::Spec; use XML::Simple; use Data::Dumper; my $dir_target = 'somepath'; find(\&a, $dir_target); sub a { /\.iso$/ or return; my $fn = $File::Find::name; $fn =~ s/\//\\/g; $fn =~ /(.*\\)(.*)/; my $path = $1; my $filename = $2; my $title = (File::Spec->splitdir($fn))[2]; $title =~ s/(.*?)\s\(\d+\)$/$1/; $title =~ s/~/:/; $title =~ s/`/?/; my $link_local = '<link><description>Folder</description><url>'.$path.'</url><urltype>Movie</urltype></link><link><description>'.$filename.'</description><url>'.$fn.'</url><urltype>Movie</urltype></link>' unless $title eq ''; my $txt = 'somepath/log.txt'; my $xml_in = XMLin('somepath/test.xml', ForceArray => 1, KeepRoot => 1); my $xml_out = XMLout($xml_in, OutputFile => 'somepath/test_out.xml', KeepRoot=>1); open F, ">>", $txt; print F $link_local."\n\n"; close F; } And here is a snippet of the data I need to edit. If found imdb and dvdempire link - do not touch. if found local links replace, otherwise insert. I'm willing to complete the code myself but need some directions how to proceed further. • Looping through siblings of a specific row/setting up function

    - by Matt
    Trying to work through my javascript book I am referencing to learn the language and got stuck on looping through siblings of a specific row. W3schools and W3 didnt have what i was looking for. Below is a function walk-through... It reads: Create the countRecords() function. The purpose of this function is to count the number of visible rows in the data table after the table headings. The total is then displayed in the table cell with the id "records". Add the follow commands to the function: a. Create a object named headRow that points to the table row with the id "titleRow". Create a variable named rowCount, setting its initial value to 0. b. Create a for loop that uses familial references starting with the first sibling of headRow and moving to the next sibling until there are no siblings left. Within the for loop. test whether the node name of the currentnext sibling until there are no sibilings left. Within the for loop test whether the node name of the current node is equal to "TR". If it is, test wheter the value of its display style is equal to an empty text string. If it is (indicating that it is visible in the document) increate the value of the rowCount variable by 1. c. Change the text of the "records" table cell to the value of the rowCount variable. Don't use innerHTML. Create a text node that contains the value of the rowCount variable and assign it to a variable called txt. Create a variable called record to store the reference to the element "records" table cell. d. Insert an if condition that test whether the "records" cell has any child nodes. If it does, replace the replace the text node of the "record" table cell with the created text node (txt). If it doesn't append the text node to the cell. var headRow; // part a var rowCount = 0; //part b this is where I get lost. I know I need to access the id titleRow but unsure how to set my loop up specifically for this headRow = document.getElementById("titleRow"); for(var i=0; i<headrow.length; i++) { if (something is not equal == "TH") { make code happen here } if (is "TR" == ""){ rowCount = +1; } //part c var txt = document.createTextNode(rowCount); var record = document.getElementsById("records") //part d holding off on this part until I get a,b,c figured out. The HTML supporting snippet: <table id="filters"> <tr><th colspan="2">Filter Product List</th></tr> <tr> <td>Records: </td> <td id="records"></td> </tr> <table id="prodTable"> <tr><th colspan="8">Digital Cameras</th></tr> <tr id="titleRow"> <th>Model</th> <th>Manufacturer</th> <th>Resolution</th> <th>Zoom</th> <th>Media</th> <th>Video</th> <th>Microphone</th> </tr> Thanks for the help!

  • How to handle recurring dates (dates only) in .NET?

    - by Wayne M
    I am trying to figure out a good way to handle recurring events in .NET, specifically for an ASP.NET MVC application. The idea is that a user can create an event and specify that the event can occur repeatedly after a specific interval (e.g. "every two weeks", "once a month" and so on). What would be the best way to tackle this? My brainstorming right now is to have two tables: Job and RecurringJob. Job is the "master" record and has the description of the job as well a key to what customer it's for, while RecurringJob links back to Job and has additional info on what the occurrence frequency is (e.g. 1 for "once a month") as well as the timespan (e.g. "Weekly", "Monthly"). The issue is how to determine and set the next occurrence of the job since this will have to be something that's done regularly. I've seen two trains of thought with this: This logic should either be stored in a database column and periodically updated, or calculated on the fly in the code. Any thoughts or suggestions on tackling this? Edit: this is for a subscription based web app I'm creating to let service businesses schedule their common recurring jobs easily and track their customers. So a typical use might be to create a "Cut lawn" job for Mr Smith that occurs every month The exact date isn't important - it's the ability for the customer to see that Mr Smith gets his lawn cut every month and followup with him about it. Let me rephrase the above to better convey my idea. A sample use case for the application might be as follows: User pulls up the customer record for John Smith and clicks the Add Job link. The user fills out the form to create a job with a name of "Cut lawn", a start date of 11/15/2009, and selects a checkbox indicating that this job continually occurs. The user is presented with a secondary screen asking for the job frequency. The user indicates (haven't decided how at this point - let's assume select lists) that the job occurs once a month. User clicks save. Now, when the user views the record for John Smith, they can see that he has a job, "Cut lawn", that occurs every month starting from 11/15/2009. On the main dashboard when it's one week prior to the assumed start date, the user sees the job displayed with an indicator such as "12/15/2009 - Cut lawn (John Smith)". A week before the due date someone from the company calls him up to schedule and he says he's going to be out of town until 1/1/2010, so he wants his appointment rescheduled for that date. Our user can change the date for the job to be 1/1/2010, and now the recurrence will start one month from that date (e.g. next time will be 2/1/2010). The idea behind this is that the app is targeting businesses like lawn care, plumbers, carpet cleaners and the like where the exact date isn't as important (because it can and will change as people are busy), the key thing is to give the business an indicator that Mr. Smith's monthly service is coming up, and someone should give him a call to determine when exactly it can be scheduled for. In effect give these businesses a way to track repeat business and know when it's time to followup with a customer.

  • Help on Removal of Dynamically Created sprites.

I am making emission spectrum's of 3 elements by dynamically generating the mask over a picture on the stage. Everything works perfectly fine with the code I have right now except the sprites stack on top of each other and I end up with bold lines all over my picture instead of a new set of lines each time i press a button. I have tried using try/catch to remove the sprites and I have also rearranged the entire code from what is seen here to make 3 seperate entities (hoping I could remove them if they were seperate variables) instead of 2 functions that handle the whole process. I have tried everything to the extent of my knowledge (which is pretty minimal @ this point) any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time!

  • GetAcceptExSockaddrs returns garbage! Does anyone know why?

    - by David
    Hello, I'm trying to write a quick/dirty echoserver in Delphi, but I notice that GetAcceptExSockaddrs seems to be writing to only the first 4 bytes of the structure I pass it. USES SysUtils; TYPE BOOL = LongBool; DWORD = Cardinal; LPDWORD = ^DWORD; short = SmallInt; ushort = Word; uint16 = Word; uint = Cardinal; ulong = Cardinal; SOCKET = uint; PVOID = Pointer; _HANDLE = DWORD; _in_addr = packed record s_addr : ulong; end; _sockaddr_in = packed record sin_family : short; sin_port : uint16; sin_addr : _in_addr; sin_zero : array[0..7] of Char; end; P_sockaddr_in = ^_sockaddr_in; _Overlapped = packed record Internal : Int64; Offset : Int64; hEvent : _HANDLE; end; LP_Overlapped = ^_Overlapped; IMPORTS function _AcceptEx (sListenSocket, sAcceptSocket : SOCKET; lpOutputBuffer : PVOID; dwReceiveDataLength, dwLocalAddressLength, dwRemoteAddressLength : DWORD; lpdwBytesReceived : LPDWORD; lpOverlapped : LP_OVERLAPPED) : BOOL; stdcall; external MSWinsock name 'AcceptEx'; procedure _GetAcceptExSockaddrs (lpOutputBuffer : PVOID; dwReceiveDataLength, dwLocalAddressLength, dwRemoteAddressLength : DWORD; LocalSockaddr : P_Sockaddr_in; LocalSockaddrLength : LPINT; RemoteSockaddr : P_Sockaddr_in; RemoteSockaddrLength : LPINT); stdcall; external MSWinsock name 'GetAcceptExSockaddrs'; CONST BufDataSize = 8192; BufAddrSize = SizeOf (_sockaddr_in) + 16; VAR ListenSock, AcceptSock : SOCKET; Addr, LocalAddr, RemoteAddr : _sockaddr_in; LocalAddrSize, RemoteAddrSize : INT; Buf : array[1..BufDataSize + BufAddrSize * 2] of Byte; BytesReceived : DWORD; Ov : _Overlapped; BEGIN //WSAStartup, create listen socket, bind to port 1066 on any interface, listen //Create event for overlapped (autoreset, initally not signalled) //Create accept socket if _AcceptEx (ListenSock, AcceptSock, @Buf, BufDataSize, BufAddrSize, BufAddrSize, @BytesReceived, @Ov) then WinCheck ('SetEvent', _SetEvent (Ov.hEvent)) else if GetLastError <> ERROR_IO_PENDING then WinCheck ('AcceptEx', GetLastError); {do WaitForMultipleObjects} _GetAcceptExSockaddrs (@Buf, BufDataSize, BufAddrSize, BufAddrSize, @LocalAddr, @LocalAddrSize, @RemoteAddr, @RemoteAddrSize); So if I run this, connect to it with Telnet (on same computer, connecting to localhost) and then type a key, WaitForMultipleObjects will unblock and GetAcceptExSockaddrs will run. But the result is garbage! RemoteAddr.sin_family = -13894 RemoteAddr.sin_port = 64 and the rest is zeroes. What gives? Thanks in advance!

  • Need to write at beginning of file with PHP

    - by Timothy
    I'm making this program and I'm trying to find out how to write data to the beginning of a file rather than the end. "a"/append only writes to the end, how can I make it write to the beginning? Because "r+" does it but overwrites the previous data. $datab = fopen('database.txt', "r+"); Here is my whole file: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Facebook v0.1</title> <style type="text/css"> #bod{ margin:0 auto; width:800px; border:solid 2px black; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="bod"> <?php $fname = $_REQUEST['fname']; $lname = $_REQUEST['lname']; $comment = $_REQUEST['comment']; $datab = $_REQUEST['datab']; $gfile = $_REQUEST['gfile']; print <<<form <table border="2" style="margin:0 auto;"> <td> <form method="post" action=""> First Name : <input type ="text" name="fname" value=""> <br> Last Name : <input type ="text" name="lname" value=""> <br> Comment : <input type ="text" name="comment" value=""> <br> <input type ="submit" value="Submit"> </form> </td> </table> form; if((!empty($fname)) && (!empty($lname)) && (!empty($comment))){ $form = <<<come <table border='2' width='300px' style="margin:0 auto;"> <tr> <td> <span style="color:blue; font-weight:bold;"> $fname $lname : </span> $comment </td> </tr> </table> come; $datab = fopen('database.txt', "r+"); fputs($datab, $form); fclose($datab); }else if((empty($fname)) && (empty($lname)) && (empty($comment))){ print" please input data"; } // end table $datab = fopen('database.txt', "r"); while (!feof($datab)){ $gfile = fgets($datab); print "$gfile"; }// end of while ?> </div> </body> </html>

  • Need to determine button clicked in a JQuery mobile popup and perform actions based thereon

    - by Clifford
    I am having a problem with a JQM popup. The popup has 3 buttons, and the action taken in the main program depends on which button is clicked. The code in the main program is run more than once and I am not sure why. The simple example below uses an alert to display which button on the popup was clicked. When the popup is called the first time, it works as hoped, the 2nd time, the alert is displayed twice, the 3rd time, the alert is displayed 3 times, etc. <html> <head> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/jquery.mobile-1.3.2.min.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="cordova-2.6.0.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.9.1.min.js"/></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.mobile-1.3.2.min.js"></script> <script> function doCustomDialog(text1,button1,button2,button3,callback) { $("#customDialog .customDialogDesc").text(text1); $("#customDialog .customDialogOption1").text(button1).on("click.customDialog", function(){ callback("option1"); }); $("#customDialog .customDialogOption2").text(button2).on("click.customDialog", function(){ callback("option2"); }); $("#customDialog .customDialogOption3").text(button3).on("click.customDialog", function(){ callback("option3"); }); $("#customDialog").popup("open"); } </script> </head> <body> <div data-role="page" id="mainPage"> <div data-role="content"> <INPUT type="button" id="confirm" value="Save data" /> <div data-role="popup" id="customDialog" data-title="Are you sure?" class="ui-content"> <p class ="customDialogDesc">???</p> <a href="#" class ="customDialogOption1" data-role="button" data-theme="b" data-rel="back">Yes</a> <a href="#" class ="customDialogOption2" data-role="button" data-theme="b" data-rel="back">No</a> <a href="#" class ="customDialogOption3" data-role="button" data-theme="b" data-rel="back">Cancel</a> </div> </div> </div> <script> $("#mainPage").on("pageshow", function(e) { $("#confirm").click(function() { doCustomDialog("A similar record already exists.   • hosting simple python scripts in a container to handle concurrency, configuration, caching, etc.

    - by Justin Grant
    My first real-world Python project is to write a simple framework (or re-use/adapt an existing one) which can wrap small python scripts (which are used to gather custom data for a monitoring tool) with a "container" to handle boilerplate tasks like: fetching a script's configuration from a file (and keeping that info up to date if the file changes and handle decryption of sensitive config data) running multiple instances of the same script in different threads instead of spinning up a new process for each one expose an API for caching expensive data and storing persistent state from one script invocation to the next Today, script authors must handle the issues above, which usually means that most script authors don't handle them correctly, causing bugs and performance problems. In addition to avoiding bugs, we want a solution which lowers the bar to create and maintain scripts, especially given that many script authors may not be trained programmers. Below are examples of the API I've been thinking of, and which I'm looking to get your feedback about. A scripter would need to build a single method which takes (as input) the configuration that the script needs to do its job, and either returns a python object or calls a method to stream back data in chunks. Optionally, a scripter could supply methods to handle startup and/or shutdown tasks. HTTP-fetching script example (in pseudocode, omitting the actual data-fetching details to focus on the container's API): def run (config, context, cache) : results = http_library_call (config.url, config.http_method, config.username, config.password, ...) return { html : results.html, status_code : results.status, headers : results.response_headers } def init(config, context, cache) : config.max_threads = 20 # up to 20 URLs at one time (per process) config.max_processes = 3 # launch up to 3 concurrent processes config.keepalive = 1200 # keep process alive for 10 mins without another call config.process_recycle.requests = 1000 # restart the process every 1000 requests (to avoid leaks) config.kill_timeout = 600 # kill the process if any call lasts longer than 10 minutes Database-data fetching script example might look like this (in pseudocode): def run (config, context, cache) : expensive = context.cache["something_expensive"] for record in db_library_call (expensive, context.checkpoint, config.connection_string) : context.log (record, "logDate") # log all properties, optionally specify name of timestamp property last_date = record["logDate"] context.checkpoint = last_date # persistent checkpoint, used next time through def init(config, context, cache) : cache["something_expensive"] = get_expensive_thing() def shutdown(config, context, cache) : expensive = cache["something_expensive"] expensive.release_me() Is this API appropriately "pythonic", or are there things I should do to make this more natural to the Python scripter? (I'm more familiar with building C++/C#/Java APIs so I suspect I'm missing useful Python idioms.) Specific questions: is it natural to pass a "config" object into a method and ask the callee to set various configuration options? Or is there another preferred way to do this? when a callee needs to stream data back to its caller, is a method like context.log() (see above) appropriate, or should I be using yield instead? (yeild seems natural, but I worry it'd be over the head of most scripters) My approach requires scripts to define functions with predefined names (e.g. "run", "init", "shutdown"). Is this a good way to do it? If not, what other mechanism would be more natural? I'm passing the same config, context, cache parameters into every method. Would it be better to use a single "context" parameter instead? Would it be better to use global variables instead? Finally, are there existing libraries you'd recommend to make this kind of simple "script-running container" easier to write?

  • Trying to convert string to datetime

    - by user1596472
    I am trying to restrict a user from entering a new record if the date requested already exits. I was trying to do a count to see if the table that the record would be placed in already has that date 1 or not 0. I have a calendar extender attached to a text box which has the date. I keep getting either a: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime. or Unable to cast object of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox' to type 'System.IConvertible'. depending on the different things I have tried. Here is my code. TextBox startd = (TextBox)(DetailsView1.FindControl("TextBox5")); TextBox endd = (TextBox)(DetailsView1.FindControl("TextBox7")); DropDownList lvtype = (DropDownList)(DetailsView1.FindControl("DropDownList6")); DateTime scheduledDate = DateTime.ParseExact(startd.Text, "dd/MM/yyyy", null); DateTime endDate = DateTime.ParseExact(endd.Text, "dd/MM/yyyy", null); DateTime newstartDate = Convert.ToDateTime(startd.Text); DateTime newendDate = Convert.ToDateTime(endd.Text); //foreach (DataRow row in sd.Tables[0].Rows) DateTime dt = newstartDate; while (dt <= newendDate) { //for retreiving from table Decimal sd = SelectCountDate(dt, lvtype.SelectedValue, countDate); String ndt = Convert.ToDateTime(dt).ToShortDateString(); // //start = string.CompareOrdinal(scheduledDate, ndt); // // end = string.CompareOrdinal(endDate, ndt); //trying to make say when leavetpe is greater than count 1 then throw error. if (sd > 0) { Response.Write("<script>alert('Date Already Requested');</script>"); } dt.AddDays(1); } ^^^ This version throws the: "String was not recognized as valid date type" error But if i replace the string with either of these : /*-----------------------Original------------------------------------ string scheduledDate = Convert.ToDateTime(endd).ToShortDateString(); string endDate = Convert.ToDateTime(endd).ToShortDateString(); -------------------------------------------------------------------*/ /*----------10-30--------------------------------------- DateTime scheduledDate = DateTime.Parse(startd.Text); DateTime endDate = DateTime.Parse(endd.Text); ------------------------------------------------------*/ I get the "Unable to cast object of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox' to type 'System.IConvertible'." error. I am just trying to stop a user from entering a record date that already exits. <InsertItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox5" runat="server" Height="19px" Text='<%# Bind("lstdate", "{0:MM/dd/yyyy}") %>' Width="67px"></asp:TextBox> <asp:CalendarExtender ID="TextBox5_CalendarExtender" runat="server" Enabled="True" TargetControlID="TextBox5"> </asp:CalendarExtender> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RequiredFieldValidator2" runat="server" ControlToValidate="TextBox5" ErrorMessage="*Leave Date Required" ForeColor="Red"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator> <br /> <asp:CompareValidator ID="CompareValidator18" runat="server" ControlToCompare="TextBox7" ControlToValidate="TextBox5" ErrorMessage="Leave date cannot be after start date" ForeColor="Red" Operator="LessThanEqual" ToolTip="Must choose start date before end date"></asp:CompareValidator> </InsertItemTemplate>
