  • Programmatically change height of the window more than the height of the screen in Mac OS X

    Respected low-level users of Mac OS, please, help. I'm trying programmatically to change height of window of safari (or other window). I'm was trying used AppleScript and AXUIElementSetAttributeValue of Carbon, but none of these methods can't increase the window bigger than the height of the screen. But, the width changes without any problems. I guess I'd be starting with something like SetWindowPos with SWP_NOSENDCHANGING flag under Win32. Maybe, you can disable this functionality, which monitors the size of the window or completely shutdown the one who is responsible for it? Note that I want to do this programmatically from an external process - I'm not asking how to control just my own app's window size and position. Thanks.

  • Windows program to remove titlebar, frame, etc from a window?

    I like playing computer games in windowed mode, as opposed to full screen. I don't like staring at the title bar, frame, and other UI junk. I also don't like seeing other stuff on my desktop around the window. Is there a simple Windows program that will strip the UI chrome off of an arbitrary window from some other application? Extra points for an easy way to put a black screen underneath the window, hiding the desktop. Note: I'm looking specifically to handle windows that are smaller than my desktop size. There's a variety of 'windowed maximized' options that make a window exactly the desktop size, and positioned so all the UI decorations are off screen. (E.g.: ShiftWindow). I'm trying to strip all the decorations away from a window that's smaller than desktop size.

  • Can IE Developer Tools be configured to 'see' a window that is less than full screen in size?

    I have used Developer Tools for IE for over 2 years, so I have some good experience with the tool. But the window that I need to debug now is less than a full screen in size and cannot be made larger. (Just imagine a large window that is approximately 2/3's of your full screen, but cannot be enlarged so that it is full screen). So when I try to utilize Developer Tools to debug the window, it doesn't work. It is as if Developer Tools tries to look at the full screen which is displayed behind my window that is displayed on the screen. Is there any way to make Developer Tools 'see' a window that is less than full screen in size and sits on top of another screen / web page?

  • Why is my Internet connection randomly dropping?

    Ever since I have installed 12.04 (clean install not an upgrade), i have been having a drop in the Internet connection. The drop in the connection can be anything from 15 seconds to about 3 mins, and then the connection comes back. This behaviour happens while I am actively browsing the Internet, or if I wake up the computer and open Firefox (sometimes I have connection and sometimes I don't) . Please note that when the internet connection is on, it is not slow (as speedtest.net results show) In the beginning, I thought it was a problem with the driver r8169 for my RTL8111/8168B Ethernet card, so I downloaded the r8168 from Realtek website, followed the detailed instructions (blacklisted r8169, changed the file to '.bsh' ...), but still the same problem persisted. So I switched to a wireless connection, and I got the same problem with internet connection dropping randomly. Any ideas?     Mac OS X's window manager is composed of: Applications Windows Tabs By default on OS X, you can cycle over applications with the famous ?? shortcut. In addition to this, I use a little utility called Witch which enables cycling (graphically) over windows too(I've defined it on ??). Unfortunately, it does not currently support tabs cycling... Would you have any suggestion for this? I know I already can ^? for this, but I'm looking for a graphical utility where you are not blind during cycling. Thank you.

    I am trying to create a custom session by creating a custom.desktop file in /usr/share/xesessions folder. Remember this is not a gnome or some other session. I have created my own application for this session, which are simple. Case 1 Chrome Browser Contents of custom.desktop file [Desktop Entry] Name=Internet Kiosk Comment=This is an internet kiosk Exec=google-chrome --kiosk TryExec= Icon= Type=Application Issue Chrome browser starts in kiosk mode but does not capture complete screen area. Some area is left at the bottom and right side of the screen. Case 2 Custom pyGTK app (Quickly) Contents of custom.desktop file [Desktop Entry] Name=Custom Kiosk Comment=This is a custom kiosk Exec=~/MyCustomPyGTKApp TryExec= Icon= Type=Application Issue My custom pyGTK app has window.fullScreen() in the code. That means it should open in full screen without the window chrome (and it does under the normal session). But that too, leaves lots of space around it. Need Help Can anyone tell me whats going on here. I think its some issue with borders as pointed out at http://www.instructables.com/id/Setting-Up-Ubuntu-as-a-Kiosk-Web-Appliance/?ALLSTEPS in Step 8 If by chance, Google Chromium is not stretched to the edges with the --kiosk switch enabled there is a simple fix. To stretch Chromium simply log in as your regular user and edit chromeKiosk.sh to not have the --kiosk switch. Then log in as the restricted user, click the wrench and choose options. Then on the Personal Stuff tab select Hide system title bar and use compact borders. Close the options screen and stretch Chromium to fit the monitor. Then go back into the options window and set it to Use system title bar and borders. After this is done, log out of your restricted user (might need to just reboot) and log into your regular user. Edit chromeKiosk.sh back to include the --kiosk switch again and Chromium should be full screen next time you log into the restricted user. If I were to use a custom pyGTK or a gtkmm app, how should I get around this issue. window.fullScreen() should occupy the complete screen area. This has to be done programmatically or in some other way that can scale. I have to deploy this on large number of machines located at different geographical areas. Doing it manually on every machine is not possible.

Under CompizConfig Settings Manager Place Windows Fixed Window Placement Windows with fixed viewport, I have class=Pidgin, x=2, y=1, and that works fine, but I can't get Gmail to place properly. I've tried class=Prism, title=Gmail, title=gmail ... The Gmail Prism config is from the prism-google-mail 1.0b3+svn20100210r62050-0ubuntu2 package. Any ideas?

    In 10.10 that I was using before 12.04 you could use alt+F9 to minimise a window to the task bar. In 12.04 meta+ctrl+ cursor up down maximises and unmaximises a window. If you have a numeric keypad you can use ctrl+alt+0 to minimise to launcher. On my netbook I don't have a numeric keypad and the normal numbers do not work with the above shortcut. How can I minimise windows with a keyboard shortcut?

  • 'pip install carbon' looks like it works, but pip disagrees afterward

    I'm trying to use pip to install the package carbon, a package related to statistics collection. When I run pip install carbon, it looks like everything works. However, pip is unconvinced that the package is actually installed. (This ultimately causes trouble because I'm using Puppet, and have a rule to install carbon using pip, and when puppet asks pip "is this package installed?" it says "no" and it reinstalls it again.) How do I figure out what's preventing pip from recognizing the success of this installation?   • Why i disconnect every few seconds? using USB wireless adapter

    i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again.     Hi I have a index page the renders objects from my database as a treeview, each item has a link href="/MessageGroupType/Edit/1002 that makes an Ajax call to display a partial view in a DIV. Within the partial view there is a delete button which calls my controller to delete the item. However, i do a check to make sure the item can be deleted, if the item cant be deleted then i wish a pop-up to appear back on the edit form telling the user they cant delete this record. In my Edit partial view i have the following code " type="text/javascript" $(function() { $("#dialog").dialog(); }); <% if (Boolean.Parse(ViewData["DisplayWindow"].ToString())){% This Mesage group Type Cannot be deleted as is linked to other message group Types <% }% So my main questions are Can i make a reference to a javascript script within my Partial View (i dont want my master page to be called on the partial view) When i dynamically load the partial view data into my DIV - can i then after calling my controller insert another DIV into the first DIV.     Hi I am working on an application for android and we since we have lots of graphics, we use a lot of memory. I monitor the memory heap size and its about 3-4 Mb , and peeks of 5Mb when I do something that requires more memory (and then goes back to 3). This is not a big deal, but some other stuff is handled outside the heap memory, like loading of drawables. For example if I run the ddms tool outside eclipse, and go to sysinfo, I see that my app is taking 20Mb on the Droid and 12 on the G1, but heap size are the same in both, because data is the same but images are different. So the questions are: How do I know what is taking the memory outside the heap memory? What other stuff takes memory outside the heap memory? Complex layouts (big tree) ? Animations? Thanks Daniel

  • Losing sessions with window.open and cakephp redirection in PHP with cakephp

    Hi guys, Ok, here goes a very strange problem... Our team is using cakephp to develop a large application. Everything session related is working properly so far. The only issues we've had so far are related to iframes and opening windows in other subdomains. I'll explain: User opens up site A and logs into it, creation a User in a session. Cookies are set, everything works as expected. The user clicks a link that opens up Site B via Javascript. When they go to that site, they are automatically logged in by a backend mechanism and infrastructure. Site B is a subdomain of Site A. On that site there is another mechanism to go back to the first page (a link rather) that logs them back in to site A. The fun part about this whole process is the following, and that on step 3, when we click on the link, the session on Site A has been lost. I know it's lost because it is forcing login again. I am a bit lost, as the rest of the application that work with AJAX and uses iframes and stuff works flawlessly, just this one item does not work as one would expect. Consider a WCF service that is supposed to use Powershell 2.0 remoting to execute MSBuild on remote machines. In both cases the scripting environments are being called in-process (via C# for Powershell and via Powershell for MSBuild), rather than 'shelling-out' - this was a specific design decision to avoid command-line hell as well as to enable passing actual objects into the Powershell script.   • Version control a content management system?

    I have the following directory structure in the CMS application we have written: /application /modules /cms /filemanager /block /pages /sitemap /youtube /rss /skin /backend /default /css /js /images /frontend /default /css /js /images Application contains code specific to the current CMS implementation, i.e code for this specific cms. Modules contain reusable portions of code that we share across projects, such as libraries to work with youtube or rss feeds. We include these as git submodules, so that we can update the module in any website and push the changes back across all other projects. It makes it really easy to apply a change to our code and distribute it. We wanted to turn the CMS into a module so we get the same benefit - we can run the entire project under source control, then update the cms as required through a git-submodule. We have run into a problem however: the cms requires javascript/images/css in order for it to work correctly. Things we have thought about: We could create 2 submodules, one for cms-skin and one for cms, but this means you cannot "git pull" one version without having some idea of which versions of skin work with which versions of cms. i.e version 1.2.2 CMS might have issues with 1.0.3 CMS-Skin We could add the skin to the cms module but this has the following problems: Skin should be available on the document root, module code shouldn't be, and if it is it should probably be secured via .htaccess It doesn't seem to make any sense bundling assets with php code We could create a symlink between /skin/backend/ to go to /modules/cms/skin but does this cause any security problems, and do we want to require something like a symlink for the application to work? We could create a hook for git or a shell script that copies files from modules/cms/skin to skin/backend when an update occurs, but this means we lose the ability to edit CMS core files in a project then push them back How is this typically done in large scale cms's? How is it possible to get the source code for a cms under version control, work on the application for a client, then update the sourcecode as releases and given by the vendor? How do applications like Magento or Drupal do this?
