  • Audio programming resources

    I've been very interested in the last few months about getting in to audio programming (I'm from a musical background). I've been a .NET developer for two years and have also done some objective c for an iPhone app recently. I realise I would probably need to work on my C++ chops and have been having a play around with FMOD EX and doing a lot of research into the industry. I was just wondering if anyone could suggest some good resources for audio programming (be they websites, podcasts, books, videos, online courses etc). Anything from Fourier analysis, low level coding, audio engine creation to audio APIs. I just want to learn as much as possible! Thanks in advance.

    I am a senior & am a retired R.N., always good at math (50+ yrs ago, but still am). I have been in a computer users group since the mid 90's, & have become moderately advanced in using computers, including trouble-shooting other people's computer problems. Most of my expertise was gained by reading, asking questions, & trying my own trouble-shooting with the help of books & the internet. Now,I would like to take the next step and learn programming. What would be the best way for me to learn programming? Attending classes isn't a practical option, and I'm not in a position to spend much money. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.     I'm re-factoring my asp.net application from asp.net 3.5 to 4.0. Also I'm changing url to user friendly url. Example /product.aspx?id=100 to /product-name/100 All my pages indexed by search engines and the site already 6 years online. I'm planning to do 301 redirect from old pages to new one. I want to make sure I won't loose the rank and traffic. Any suggestion how to do it properly?

  • Should I understand SVN before I jump to GIT?

    I work in a department where no one has ever used source control before, including myself. I am trying to push the concept. I have spent a little while researching SVN. I some basics learned. I can Create/update/checkout/commit with command line and from Tortoise. I am starting to learn how to tag and branch but still confused a lot about conflicts between branches and trunk etc. I am still learning, but I do not have a physical person who can show me anything. Its all from books/tutorials and trial and error. From what I have read online it seems like git is the better thing to know, but its also more complicated. I don't want to overwhelm myself. Should I continue to master svn before moving to git or would I be wiser to just jump to git now? Are there pros and cons to both approaches?

    I work as a programmer for a mid-sized company (about 500 employees) in the medical industry. Before that I worked at a custom software development/consulting company. At both companies programmers were never officially given time to continue their education through taking classes, reading books or blogs, or doing research relevant to the job. At the software development company we were offered some money to pay for a class, but not offered any time off of work to take the class. I have been wondering, do most employers of programmers give time off of work to take a class, read a book, or do job related research? By time off of work I just mean some period of time where you can stop development; it does not have to mean leaving the office. I would be grateful to hear about everyone's experience with this.

    I finished University around 4 years ago double degree in Software Eng/Comp Sci. Got my first job at a startup in my final year, was with them for 2.5 years then started my own business. So far everything is going great, lots of clients and stead work etc, but coming right out of uni and into a start up I never had any form or senior software engineer guiding my work or suggesting improvements etc... Whats the best way for me to improve & learn more? Books? MS Exams? Other? I develop in C#, ASP.NET/MVC. Update The problem isn't really with releasing products, I've released quite a few which are up and running with customers happy. It's more with quality of code, best practices, how do I know something I am code is correct, it may work but there may be ways of coding it much more efficiently or by adhering to some kind of standard Cheers for any responses!
