  • Mirror a git repository by pulling?

    I am wondering if there is an easy way, ie like a simple cron job, to regularly pull from a remote git repository to a local read only mirror for backup purposes? Ideally it would pull all branches and tags, but the master/trunk/head would be sufficient. I just need a way to make sure that if the master git server dies, we have a backup location that we could manually fail over to. (I have been googling and reading documentation for help on how to do this for quite some time now and the furthest I have gotten is a bash script that does pull's on a regular interval.)

    I posted this question early yesterday, but the thread seems to have died out. For reference, see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2619117/git-push-origin-master . Here's the low-down: I'm new to git. I just set up an account with github and I followed all their instructions flawlessly until I got to the last command of git push origin master Upon entering this command, I get the error message "fatal: No path specified. See 'man git-pull' for valid url syntax." If I type in git origin show the output I see is origin. If I type in git remote -n show the output is * remote origin URL: [email protected]: HEAD branch: (not queried) Local ref configured for 'git push' (status not queried): (matching) pushes to (matching) Please help me get to the bottom of this.

    Question: How can I process a form using jQuery and the $.ajax request so that the data is passed to a script which writes it to a database? Problem: I have a simple email signup form that when processed, adds the email along with the current date to a table in a MySQL database.     Hello folks, i have searched similar posts on google & stackoverflow to no use. Basically, what i have is a new aspx page. I have the following files referenced in the head section. jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.css jquery-1.3.2.min.js jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.min.js Theme:smoothness UI Version: 1.7.2 for jQuery 1.3.2 I have nothing else going on in the page but still get the error 'error updating JScript Intellisense. I am using VS2008 SP1. Any ideas? TIA ps: VS shows intellisense if i refer to 1.4.1.js & 1.4.1-vsdoc.js

  • How do you diagnose a 500 error on Heroku when there is no error message in the logs?

    I have a Rails app on Heroku that is serving 500 errors at random intervals. Web pages will display "Internal server error" in plain text, instead of the usual "We're sorry. Something went wrong." page. When I refresh the page, it works fine.     Hi there, I'm trying to wrap my head around mongoose, but I'm having a hard time finding any kind of documentation for some of the more advanced query options, specifically the .in and .sort methods. What's the syntax for sorting, for example, a Person by age? db.model("Person").find().sort(???).all(function(people) { }); Then, let's say I want to find a Movie based on a genre, where a Movie can have many genres (in this case, an array of strings). Presumably, I'd use the .in function to accomplish that, but I'm not sure what the syntax would be. Or perhaps I don't have to use the .in method at all...?     I'm currently trying to wrap my head around regex, I have a validation snippet that tests an input box against a regex-expression: $.validator.addMethod("customerName", function(value, element){ return (/^[a-zA-Z]*$/).test(value); }, "Some text"); That works well, but when I try to add a space and some special danish characters, it doesn't filter the danish characters, only the space. $.validator.addMethod("customerName", function(value, element){ return (/^[a-zA-Z æøåÆØÅ]*$/).test(value); }, "Some text"); Any ideas to what could be wrong?

  • Possible Encoding Issue Reading HTM File using .Net Streamreader

    I have an HTML file with a ® (copyright) and ™ (trademark) symbol in the text. These are just two among many other symbols. When I read the html file into a literal control it converts the symbols to something else. The copyright symbol converts to ? (open box in ff) The trademark symbol converts to ™ (as expected) If (System.IO.File.Exists(FullName)) Then Dim StreamReader1 As New System.IO.StreamReader(FullName) Contents.Text = StreamReader1.ReadToEnd() StreamReader1.Close() End If Contents is a <asp:Literal runat="server" ID="Contents"></asp:Literal> and it's the only control in the aspx page. From some research I think this is related to the encoding but I don't know why it would change how to fix it. The html file does not contain any Content-Type settings in the head section.

  • My Header over External Content

    I can see this web site is somewhat over my head, but I'm having trouble finding an answer. I want to put my header, with links to other pages, over external content. Here's why: My MLM gives me a replicated web site that they maintain. I want to add links to my blog, contact info, even meta tags to the site. I though I had it done by using an iframe. I have my content at the top, and the MLM site shows up in the iframe. (here is the link www.trivanijoanne.com) The problem is that the iframe doesn't resize when the external content changes, and it is confusing for the user to need to scroll up to see the page. Also, the pdf pages don't load inside the iframe. I looked around online and see that iframes are a thing of the past. What should I be using to accomplish this task?

  • How do you authenticate user generated "apps" for your app?

    I'm think something like Facebook apps here. User generated pieces of code that people can write to interact with my app. I understand how an authenticated API works, but this seems a little more complicated because not only does the APP have to authenticate itself (with a regular api-key) but the USER using the app has to be authenticated somehow too, without giving the app free reign. I've been reading a bit here to see how FB does it: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/How_Facebook_Authenticates_Your_Application And it looks like you have to pass a signature in addition to the api-key along with every call, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how this gets generated and used on the other end (my server). Figure there must be a simple explanation of this out there? Thanks! P.S. I'm building a Rails app if there are any applicable gems/plugins.

    Hi; sorry if I'm not clear, it's not really clear in my head too (especially after trying to find my way in other posts :p) What I'm willing to do is creating DataGrids in code, with zero to numerous columns containing a button, which will call one same function but with a "parameter" (different for each column). Here is what I got so far : DataGrid created in code DataTemplate defined in the xaml resources (with a button) DataGridTemplateColumn which uses the above DataTemplate Is it possible to bind the button's properties (in the DataTemplate), to the DataGridTemplateColumn properties (in my case, the column header would be ok), and how? Is there a way to get an access to the DataTemplate components (the button for example) in code, and modify their properties? Is it possible (and not hazardous) to create a DataTemplate in code? I declared mine in xaml because I found a post advising to do so instead of code. Thanks for your help.

  • Can a grails controller extend from a base class? How to make it so grails doesn't blow up?

    I wrote a base class to help build my controllers more quickly and to remove duplication. It provides some helper methods, default actions and some meta programming to make these things easier to build. One of those methods in the base class is like this: def dynamicList(Class clazz) { def model = new LinkedHashMap() model[getMapString(clazz) + "s"] = list(clazz) model[getMapString(clazz) + "sTotal"] = count(clazz) model } The action that calls it, also in the base class, is this: def list = { dynamicList(clazz) } Unfortunately, when I go to list action in the controller subclass that inherits the base class when my application is deployed, I get this exception: groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: groovy.lang.MissingMethodException.dynamicList() is applicable for argument types: (java.lang.Class) values: [class project .user.User] at project.user.UserController$_closure1.doCall(UserController.groovy:18) at project.user.UserController$_closure1.doCall(UserController.groovy) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) How can I hit grails over the head and just tell it do what I want it to do?   • How do I get the name of the newest file via the Terminal?

    I'm trying to create a macro for Keyboard Maestro for OS X doing the following: Get name of newest file in a directory on my disk based on date created; Paste the text "newest file: " plus the name of the newest file. One of its options is to "Execute a shell script", so I thought that would do it for 1. After Googling around a bit I came up with this: cd /path/to/directory/ ls -t | head -n1 This sorts it right, and returns the first filename. However, it also seems to includes a line break, which I do not want. As for 2: I can output the text "newest file: " with a different action in the app, and paste the filename behind that. But I'm wondering if you can't return "random text" + the outcome of the ls command. So my question is: can I do this only using the ls command? And how do I get just the name of the latest file without any linebreaks or returns?

  • postgresql weighted average?

    say I have a postgresql table with the following values: id | value ---------- 1 | 4 2 | 8 3 | 100 4 | 5 5 | 7 If I use postgresql to calculate the average, it gives me an average of 24.8 because the high value of 100 has great impact on the calculation. While in fact I would like to find an average somewhere around 6 and eliminate the extreme(s). I am looking for a way to eliminate extremes and want to do this "statistically correct". The extreme's cannot be fixed. I cannot say; If a value is over X, it has to be eliminated. I have been bending my head on the postgresql aggregate functions but cannot put my finger on what is right for me to use. Any suggestions?

  • Drawing reflexive edges in State Machines

    I have to draw a small finite state machine that has some reflexive transitions (meaning the start and the end state of the transition are equal. Here's what I have so far.. <select name="gender"> <option value="Male">Male </option> <option value="Female">Female </option> </select> And that should update options in this based on gender: <select name="avatar"> <option value="Trainer">Trainer </option> </select> <br /> <img src="images/trainers/male/Trainer.gif" /> I can't wrap my head around example code or concepts, I just need an example of how to fill 2-3 values into the 'avatar' selectbox based on gender, female or male, also how can I make 'Trainer' part of 'Trainer.gif' become dynamic? based on the avatar they choose?

    Hello. In general... How can I make a call on a function of an external javascript file? More specific... In the head tag i have <script type="text/javascript" src="JScript/FontSize.js"></script> The external javascript file, (that i would like to call) FontSize.js contains the following functions. function checkCookie() function setCookie(c_name, value, expiredays) function getCookie(c_name) function increaseFontSize() function decreaseFontSize() The FontSize.js is located at the ~/Jscript/ directory I guess the body on load should contain something like <body onload="/JScript/Fontsize.js/checkCookie()"> Of course nothing works as it should because, i do not know how to make the call to a function to an external js file

  • perl hashes - comparing keys and values

    I've been reading over the perl doc, but I can't quite get my head around hashes. I'm trying to find if a hash key exists, and if so, compare is't value. The thing that is confusing me is that my searches say that you find if a key exists by if (exists $files{$key}) , but that $files{$key} also gives the value? the code i'm working on is: foreach my $item(@new_contents) { next if !-f "$directory/$item"; my $date_modified = (stat("$directory/$item"))[9]; if (exists $files{$item}) { if ($files{$item} != $date_modified { $files{$item} = $date_modified; print "$item has been modified\n"; } } else { $files{$item} = $date_modified; print "$item has been added\n"; } }

  • ASP.NET Excel Export formatting question

    Hey Guys, I've been banging my head on the wall over this issue for a couple days now and I need some help. I'm creating an excel file using ASP.net and everything is going just fine except one column has to be formatted as a decimal to 2 places but when it pulls into excel, excel automatically formats it as a whole number instead of keeping the decimal places. sw.Write(String.Format("{0:f}", CDbl(dr(14)).ToString("0.00"))) this produces "20.00" but when I open it in excel it's displayed as 20...if I select the whole column and format it as a number it gets displayed as 20.00 like it's supposed to but I don't want to have to do this (I can't do that) the file is supposed to be automatically picked up and imported into another system that needs the column to be a decimal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • How do you get notified of your repos' updates?

    I'm working on several repositories at work and would like to be informed, if anything changes in the SVN repositories. I made a small BAT script (yes, BAT is usefull sometimes) that keeps executing an svn log -r BASE:HEAD on my working copy. It shows all submit comments and revision dates. It works really well but it's not comfortable for different repositories. How do you keep track of changes in your repositories? Do you use a small program you made for yourself? Do you use software someone else made? I'm interested in every approach to this problem. I would like to get notifications and several more information about the commit. The IDE integrated functions are good, but work only if I request the information. I don't want to act to get this information. Platform: Windows, Subversion 1.5 and higher.

  • Finding the time to program in your spare time?

    I've got about a dozen programming projects bouncing about my head, and I'd love to contribute to some open source projects, the problem I have is that having spent the entire day staring at Visual Studio and or Eclipse (Sometimes both at the same time...) the last thing I feel like doing when I go home is program. How do you build up the motivation/time to work on your own projects after work? I'm not saying that I don't enjoy programming, it's just that I enjoy other things to and it can be hard to even do something you enjoy if you've spent all day already doing it. I think that if I worked at a chocolate factory the last thing I'd want to see when I got home was a Wonka bar.... Related: How do you keep a balance between working, training, health and family?
