• Problem video nvidia ubuntu 12.04

  I just did a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 on my PC (Dell precision 370) but the video is not working as it should. Problems: When I log in to unity 3D I get a transparent bar (where the firefox, libre office, etc icons are) but I can see the tooltips when I put my mouse over where the icons are, I can see the top toolbar with no problem and I see just white on the rest of the desktop! When I log in using unity 2D I see the left bar cut in half (so I can't see the trash icon that is at the botton), the toolbar at the top shows OK and the desktop show OK but with some apps. For example, if I open a terminal and maximize it, it will only show just where the left toolbar "cuts". But if I open firefox it will open fine. Config: My PC comes with a nvidia quadro nvs 280 and I see that by default ubuntu is using the nouveau driver. Workarounds tried: I tried uninstalling the nouveau driver and the desktop works fine but I can use only unity 2D. I tried installing the nvidia-173 drivers using synaptic but I get "Could not apply changes! Fix broken packages first". I go to "Edit - Fix Broken packages" and I get the error: "E: Unable to correct problem, you have held broken packages.E: Error, PkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breakes, this may be caused by held packages.E:Unable to correct dependencies" Output of lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV37GL [Quadro PCI-E Series] (rev a2) Any idea so as to what I should do? Thanks in advance for any help. PS: Ah, the nvidia-173 driver was working fine on ubuntu 10.04.

• After software update, why is webmin showing wrong mySQL version?

  I did a full OS/package update on a server running webmin. Now when I go into webmin, it's showing the correct new version of Ubuntu, Apache, etc...but it's still showing the old version of mySQL. At the command line, if I enter mysql -v, it shows the correct new one, but it's just not getting recognized in webmin. I found a file at /etc/webmin/mysql called "version", and it's just a text file with the version number in it. So theoretically I could just change this and it would be fine. However, this obviously doesn't seem like how this should go. How should this file normally get updated? ETA: Services have all been restarted (in fact, there's been a full reboot). Sorry for not specifying this...it just seemed like the obvious first thing to do and not worth mentioning. :-)

• Positioned element adding to total div height [migrated]

  I have a 800 x 600 rotatable image with forward and back buttons repositioned to the sides. The height of the div is suppose to be 600px, but the actual height of the div was pushed to 690, including the height of the button image. And the div was blocking a row of clickable menu on top. So I made the div height to 518px and moved top -75px to get the real dimension I want. But I feel dirty doing this... Is there a correct way to do this? Or is this workaround more or less correct? Below is the code. • Slick UnicodeFont displays in different location depending on the screen size?

  I am using the Slick2D library to draw text. The text draws perfectly, however it is in the wrong location! I could easily draw it in the correct location, however the problem is that the "correct location" is very different depending on the size of the screen - And my game needs to be able to have the screen size changed. So when my coworker tests from her computer with another code, giving access to another place in the tree, she get's the same tree as me. (The tree is supposed to show your own level and down.) I have added a html-comment to show what orgid it passes to the function, and the orgid passed is correct. So either the treeview caches something serverside, or the sqlquery caches it's result somehow... Any ideas? Stepping through it in debug it's correct all the way, with the stepper standing on "tvNavtree.DataBind();" I can hover the pointer over the tvNavtree.Datasource and see that it actually has the correct data. So something must be faulting in the binding process...

• How to disable monitor auto detection in Windows 7?

  I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with a dual monitor setup with an NVIDIA 7950 GT graphics card. One monitor is dedicated to this machine and the other monitor is connected to a DVI KVM switch. When I switch to my other computer, Windows 7 disables the monitor. However, when I switch back it does not re-enable the monitor. The only circumstance that automatically re-enables the second monitor is when I switch back after Windows has put the monitors into power save mode. I am continually having to bring up the NVIDIA control panel to have it re-enable the monitor. Under Windows XP I would just disable the NVIDIA service to prevent it from auto-detecting the monitor (which doesn't solve the problem under Win7), and in Vista there was a registry hack that would prevent this. It looks as though that has been removed in Windows 7. I have found similar questions posted on this site, but nothing that matches my problem exactly.   I restarted my slave to change configuration settings to skip reverse hostname lookup on connecting and to enable the slow query log. I edited /etc/my.cnf making only these changes, then restarted mysqld with /etc/init.d/mysql restart All appeared to be well but when I connect to msyqld remotely or locally though it connects okay a slight problem is that mysqld crashes whenever you try to issue any kind of statement. • SQL Server 2008 Express + Reporting Services on Windows 7

  I'm trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 and Reporting Services on a x64 Windows 7 Machine for development purposes. I've installed SQL Server 2008 Express with the Microsoft Web Platform Installer I had to manually enable the SQL Server Browser in the Sql Server Configuration Manager and tried to enable the SQL Server Agent but that simply doesn't work. Keeps throwing an RPC error: "The remote procedure call failed. [0x800706be]". The start mode is set to Disabled and I cannot change it. Even though I selected the SQL Server Express with advanced services in the web platform installer I could not find any reference to SQL Server Reporting Services so I used the SQL Server Installation Center x64 application to "upgrade" to SQL Server Express 2008 with advanced services... this installed many things but still I couldn't find any reference to SQL Server Reporting Services other than an application called: "Reporting Services Configuration Manager" This opens up a dialog called "Reporting Services Configuration Connection" which is asking for a server name (shows the name of my machine) and a Find button. When I click the find button I get: "Unable to connect to the Reporting Server WMI provider. Details: Invalid Namespace". I found some references on the web to solve this problem, but they refer to a directory: "%ProgamFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.SQL2008\Reporting Services\" which does not exist anywhere on my system. (The directories for SQL Server are there, but there is no Reporting Services directory anywhere). What am I doing wrong here? Wasn't the web platform installer supposed to handle all this? Thnx for any advice. PS: Most google results refer to 2005 vs 2008 problems, but I never had 2005 installed on this system, it's a newly installed development machine.

  Hi, We have migrated our db from sql2000 win server 2k to sql2008 win server 2k8. We have linked server from sql2000 win server 2k. By our opinion the problem is with DTC and we have made a lot of setting that we found as solution for our problem, but still the problem exist. There is no any error or worning or information niether in the sql log nor in win event viewer. The application is hanging out and at the end the time out exception is shown. What we have done till now: Enable Network DTC Access with inbound and outbound with No Authentication Required on win 2k8 We have opened RPC dynamic port allocation through registry on 2k and 2k8 We have entered subkey TurnOffRpcSecurity in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC and made it enable on 2k and 2k8 We have added exception for DTC in firewall for all entities What we have notice that when we restart SQL service and make the first try for our transaction the following is shown: "Attempting to initialize Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC). This is an informational message only. No user action is required." and after it: "Recovery of any in-doubt distributed transactions involving Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) has completed. • Unexpected behaviour when dynamically add node in HAproxy server

  I wanted to use HAProxy for my web app for load balancing purpose. I am trying to add a new rabbitmq node dynamically in HAProxy server using command : haproxy -p /var/run/haproxy.pid -sf $(cat /var/run/haproxy.pid). I am doing tcp connection mode with leastconn balance algorithm in load balancing. What is expected is when there is 3 connection in one rabbitmq, I add a new rabbit server in HAProxy server. so the next connection would pass to 2nd rabbitmq server which is not happening in my case. It distributes the connection in haphazardly manner. • Apache2 Enabling Includes module causes svn access to quit working

  I have dav_svn installed to provide http access to my svn repos. The url is directly under root, eg mywebsite.com/svn/individual-repo. This setup has been working great for some time. Now, I need SSI (server-side includes) for a project, so I enabled this module with a2enmod include. Now, tortoisesvn can't access the repo; it always returns a 301 permanent redirect. Some playing with it reveals I can access it in a browser if I'm sure to include the trailing / but it still doesn't work in TortoiseSVN. I've looked at all of the faq's for this problem with TortoiseSVN and apache, and none of them seem to apply to my problem. Anyone have any insight into this problem? I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 with Apache 2.2.12. The only change I've made to my configuration is to enable the includes mod. Here's my dav_svn conf: <Location /svn> DAV svn SVNParentPath /home/matthew/svn AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repository" AuthUserFile /etc/subversion/passwd Require valid-user </Location> and here's the relevant part of my virtual host conf: <Location /svn> SetHandler None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Location> Edit: OK, I've discovered that the real conflict is between the include module and basic authentication. That is, if I disable the include module, browse to the subversion repo, enter my user/pass for the basic authentication, I can browse it just fine. It even continues to work after I re-enable the include module. However, if I browse with another browser where I'm not already authenticated, then it no longer works.

• Vista ICS issue

  I have a strange problem with Internet Connection Sharing on a laptop running Vista Business. This laptop is connected to the internet via the ethernet port, which goes to an ADSL modem. it is automatically assigned the IP address 192.168.1.50, and the modem/gateway is 192.168.1.1 My friends laptop is running Vista Home. Previously, I would create an ad hoc wireless network, enable ICS, and everything would be perfect. My friend would have internet access via this. However, something has now mysteriously broken. If I enable ICS on the wireless connection, it resets my Local Area Connection, assigning it the manual IP address of 192.168.0.1, which means my connection to the internet is destroyed. Both wireless adapters on each network are assigned auto configuration addresses, in the 168. range. They can see each other fine, but my friends laptop cannot access the internet via mine, even after I have restored the Local Area Connection settings. I understand the computer with ICS enabled must have the IP of 192.168.0.1, but previously, before whatever went wrong, my wireless adapter would be 192.168.0.1 and my friends computer would get an IP via DHCP. I have also tried setting static IP address and making a bridge, none of which works. How can I fix this problem, and prevent enabling ICS from touching my Local Area Connection? Both machines have no firewall, have appropriate settings etc...

• Port forwarding + shared connection with Ubuntu

  Because my wireless router's ethernet ports are defective, I set up a shared wireless connection from my laptop (which has wifi) to my eMac (which does not) via a crossover ethernet cable. The laptop is behind a router as 192.168.1.131, and the eMac is behind the laptop as 10.42.43.1 . The laptop is running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic). I achieved the shared connection through NetworkManager Applet. I right-clicked on the network icon at the topright, went to Edit Connections, selected the Wired connection named "Auto eth0", clicked "Edit...", went to the "IPv4 Settings" tab, and selected the Method "Shared to other computers". The eMac can now access the Internet. Now I want to enable port forwarding. There's a game I want to play that needs port 6112 forwarded (both TCP and UDP) in order to host games. I set up the router to enable port forwarding for 192.168.1.131 (the laptop), but port forwarding still isn't available on the eMac. I suppose I need to pretend my laptop is a router and configure port forwarding on it, indicating that incoming connections to the laptop (192.168.1.131) should be forwarded to the eMac on the shared connection (10.42.43.1 ). Thus, packets coming into the router on port 6112 would be redirected to the laptop (by the router), then to the eMac (by the laptop). My question is, how would I do that on Ubuntu (in light of NetworkManager's presence)? Also, if I can't get this to work, does anyone mind hosting a comp stomp? :D

• NetApp FAS270 head doesn't see disks

  I have an FAS270C. For months, I've been running it in a split-head manner (that is, with each head serving data totally independently, and without any clustering even being enabled) in order to facilitate moving some data around. I finally got everything situated, moved all the data to one of the heads, and was trying to get clustering set back up. Now when I try to install OnTap onto the "new" head, it cannot see any of the disks in the head shelf. (That is, the shelf into which the heads are inserted.) I've booted into maintenance mode, and it shows me that the 0b adapter, which should be the adapter that that shelf and its disks should be presented on, is in "OFFLINE (physical)" state. If I try to enable it with either "storage enable adapter 0b" or "fcadmin online 0b", it waits for about 30 seconds and then says: [fci.initialization.failed:error]: Initialization failed on Fibre Channel adapter 0b. [fci.adapter.online.failed:error]: Fibre Channel adapter 0b failed to come online. There is currently nothing attached to its external 0b port. I've tried it with and without an SFP plugged into it, and with and without its internal termination switch on. The currently active head can see those disks, and can see that two of them are assigned to the other head. Before I started reconfiguring, the "new" head could see disks on that shelf. They may even be the same disks that OnTap was installed on previously. Does anyone have any idea how to proceed?
