cannot access localhost using ip

I have done a small web development project using eclipse. It runs well when I try running it on browser with url localhost:8080/myproject/home.html. But if I want to access it on another machine (laptop, mobile, etc. using the same wifi) it is not possible; it is not able to connect. After Googling for a while found out that I have to use the IP address instead of 'localhost'. So I tried 10.0.0.4:8080/myproject/home.html, but still does not work. In fact i am unable to open that url on the same machine (where localhost:8080/myproject/home.html works fine). I also added a new Inbound rule in control panel firewall settings, allowing access to all ports for protocol TCP. Still have problem in running application with the url 10.0.0.4:8080/myproject/home.html (both on same machine as well as laptop and mobile). I run a job every minute to reindex my site's content. Today, the search engine died, and when I logged in there were hundreds of orphan processes that had been started by cron. Is there another way using some kind of existing software that will let me execute a job every minute, but that won't launch another instance if that job doesn't return (i.e. because the search engine process has failed)?

Java 2D Game Frameworks

I have been looking at frameworks for writing 2D games in Java - part of a growing desire to rediscover my roots in writing those simple but addictive video games. I have googled and found some possibilities, but it's hard to judge which is best without investing significant time in each. Does anyone out there have any recommendations from experience, preferably with a list of pro's and con's for the framework. NOTE: I am not looking so much for comparisons between frameworks but, rather, feedback on any given framework from actually having used it firsthand, or knowing someone who has. The other possibility I am considering is rolling my own, but would rather not. EDIT: I am targeting Java on the Desktop, and expect capable machines, though not state of the art. python pdb not breaking in files properly?

Hi Folks, I wish I could provide a simple sample case that occurs using standard library code, but unfortunately it only happens when using one of our in-house libraries that in turn is built on top of sql alchemy. Basically, the problem is that this break command: (Pdb) print sqlalchemy.engine.base.__file__ /prod/eggs/SQLAlchemy-0.5.5-py2.5.egg/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py (Pdb) break /prod/eggs/SQLAlchemy-0.5.5-py2.5.egg/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py:946 Is just being totally ignored, it seems, by pdb. As in, even though I am positive the code is being hit (both because I can see log messages, and because I've used sys.settrace to check which lines in which files are being hit), pdb is just not breaking there. I suspect that somehow the use of an egg is confusing pdb as to what files are being used (I can't reproduce the error if I use a non-egg'ed library, like pickle; there everything works fine). It's a shot in the dark, but has anyone come across this before? Thanks, /YGA

I am trying to run Protovis javascript from a Java program: ScriptEngineManager factory = new ScriptEngineManager(); ScriptEngine engine = factory.getEngineByName("JavaScript"); engine.eval(new java.io.FileReader("protovis-d3.1.js")); In order to run this, the JavaScript engine needs to have all the context of a web browser. The best option for this seems to be envjs. Unfortunately it seems that the version of Rhino included in the JVM isn't up to date and doesn't include everything that's necessary for envjs. Has anyone had any success working with a browser context from javax.script.

Hey all, Let's take the case of a simple class: QScriptEngine engine; class MyClass { public: QScriptValue foo(QScriptContext*, QScriptEngine*); MyClass(); }; QScriptValue MyClass:foo(QScriptContext* context, QScriptEngine* eng) { //something } MyClass::MyClass() { QScriptValue self = engine.newFunction(this->foo, 0); .... } The above function gives me an error: no matching function for call to ‘QScriptEngine::newFunction(<unresolved overloaded function type>, int)’ I have tried using engine.newFunction(reinterpret_cast<FunctionSignature>(foo), 0); but this gives me an error which basically says that the compiler is not aware of a keyword called 'FunctionSignature'. Plugin Framework - can there be too many addin assemblies?

Hi, The product I'm working on needs to be built in such a way that we have a quote engine driven by a pluggable framework. We are currently thinking of using MAF, so we can leverage separation of the host and addin interfaces for versioning. However, I'm concerned that we'd have lots of assemblies, it's likely that we'd have one for each quote engine addin - of which there could be 100 going forward, we also need to support multiple versions, so there could be lots of assemblies in total. The quote engine also uses WF to drive it, which means each AppDomain for each addin will need a workflow runtime associated with it. This seems quite heavyweight, however we can unload unfrequently used addins. Does this seem like a good design? We've also looked at a single AppDomain solution using an IOC container to load addin types, but I'm concerned that we won't be able to unload any of the assemblies, given their quantity.

Working on platform WinXP with MinGW (gcc4.4) / MSYS, I am trying to get autotools build working for Apache Axis C, which does not support MinGW yet. A common issue automake complains about is caused by following lines in various Makefile.am:s axis-c-trunk/src/core/Makefile.am: SUBDIRS = [other child dirs] deployment transport/http/util transport/http/common engine transport The intent of this line is to force the order of building so that transport/http/util and transport/http/common are build before the engine directory, and building rest of the transport after engine is build. This line causes the following error when running automake under MinGW: src/core/Makefile.am:1: directory should not contain `/' Now, what would be the correct way of directly including grandchildren directories so that it would functionally work like ordinary SUBDIRS inclusion for immediate child directories?

Rails Unit Testing with MyISAM Tables

I've got an application that requires the use of MyISAM on a few tables, but the rest are the traditional InnoDB type. The application itself is not concerned with transactions where it applies to these records, but performance is a concern. The Rails testing environment assumes the engine used is transactional, though, so when the test database is generated from the schema.rb it is imported with the same engine. Is it possible to over-ride this behaviour in a simple manner? I've resorted to an awful hack to ensure the tables are the correct type by appending this to test_helper.rb: (ActiveRecord::Base.connection.select_values("SHOW TABLES") - %w[ schema_info ]).each do |table_name| ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute("ALTER TABLE `#{table_name}` ENGINE=InnoDB") end Is there a better way to make a MyISAM-backed model be testable?

Can managed and unmanaged C++/MFC be mixed in one dll?

Previously we had software in MFC (VC6), VB6 and C# applications that needed to call the same engine written in C++ (and MFC). The engine required C++ for speed. At the time we decided to use COM as the interface because all three could use it with the least issues in marshalling, etc. Our MFC application is now deprecated and we have recently decided to dump VB6, so what we've got left is C#. We can just leave the COM engine as-is, but it would be nice to get away from COM registration, etc., and have a managed interface to work with. COM registration occasionally causes support issues if there is something wrong with the person's machine. Is it possible to have a dll with the existing unmanaged C++/MFC, and a .NET front end interface?

SQLAlchemy automatically converts str to unicode on commit

Hello, When inserting an object into a database with SQLAlchemy, all it's properties that correspond to String() columns are automatically transformed from <type 'str'> to <type 'unicode'>. Is there a way to prevent this behavior? I've been trying to get a delete to cascade and it just doesn't seem to work. I'm sure I am missing something obvious, can anyone help me find it? C# Speech Recognition - Is this what the user said?

I have need to write an application which uses a speech recognition engine -- either the built in vista one, or a third party one -- that can display a word or phrase, and recognise when the user reads it (or an approximation of it). I also need to be able to switch quickly between languages, without changing the language of the operating system. The users will be using the system for very short periods. The application needs to work without the requirement of first training the recognition engine to the users' voices. It would also be fantastic if this could work on Windows XP or lesser versions of Windows Vista. Optionally, the system needs to be able to read information on the screen back to the user, in the user's selected language. I can work around this specification using pre-recorded voice-overs, but the preferred method would be to use a text-to-speech engine. Can anyone recommend something for me?

I've got an application where a shared object needs a reference to a per-request object. Shared: Engine | Per Req: IExtensions() | Request If i try to inject the IExtensions directly into the constructor of Engine, even as Lazy(Of IExtension), I get a "No scope matching [Request] is visible from the scope in which the instance was requested." exception when it tries to instantiate each IExtension. How can I create a HttpRequestScoped instance and then inject it into a shared instance? Would it be considered good practice to set it in the Request's factory (and therefore inject Engine into RequestFactory)?

MySQL Removing Some Foreign keys

I have a table whose primary key is used in several other tables and has several foreign keys to other tables. CREATE TABLE location ( locationID INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY ... ) ENGINE = InnoDB; CREATE TABLE assignment ( assignmentID INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, locationID INT NOT NULL, FOREIGN KEY locationIDX (locationID) REFERENCES location (locationID) ... ) ENGINE = InnoDB; CREATE TABLE assignmentStuff ( ... assignmentID INT NOT NULL, FOREIGN KEY assignmentIDX (assignmentID) REFERENCES assignment (assignmentID) ) ENGINE = InnoDB; The problem is that when I'm trying to drop one of the foreign key columns (ie locationIDX) it gives me an "ERROR 1025 (HY000): Error on rename" error. How can I drop the column in the assignment table above without getting this error?

Clear sqlalchemy reflection cache

Hi all, I'm using sqlalchemy's reflection tools to get a Table object. I do this because these tables are dynamic and tables/columns can change. Here's the code I'm using: def getTableByReflection(self, tableName, metadata, engine): return Table(tableName, metadata, autoload = True, autoload_with = engine) The problem is that when the above code is run twice it seems to return the same results regardless of whether or not the columns have changed. I have tried refreshing using the mysession.refresh(mytable) but that fails because the table is not attached to any metadata - which makes sense but then why am I seeing cached results? Is there any way to tell the metadata/engine/session to forget about this table and let me load it cleanly?

Which relational databases exist with a public API for a high level language?

We typically interface with a RDBMS through SQL. I.e. we create a sql string and send it to the server through JDBC or ODBC or something similar. Are there any RDBMS that allow direct interfacing with the database engine through some API in Java, C#, C or similar? I would expect an API that allows constructs like this (in some arbitrary pseudo code): Iterator iter = engine.getIndex("myIndex").getReferencesForValue("23"); for (Reference ref: iter){ Row row = engine.getTable("mytable").getRow(ref); } I guess something like this is hidden somewhere in (and available from) open source databases, but I am looking for something that is officially supported as a public API, so one finds at least a note in the release notes, when it changes. In order to make this a question that actually has a 'best' answer: I prefer languages in the order given above and I will prefer mature APIs over prototypes and research work, although these are welcome as well.

Python: Give a class its own `self` at instantiation time

I've got a button class that you can instantiate like so: engine.createElement((0, 0), Button(code=print, args=("Stuff!",))) And when it is clicked it will print "Stuff!". However, I need the button to destroy itself whenever it is clicked. Something like this: engine.createElement((0, 0), Button(code=engine.killElement, args=(self,))) However, that would just kill the caller, because self refers to the caller at that moment. What I need to do is give the class its own 'self' in advance... I thought of just making the string 'self' refer to the self variable upon click, but what if I wanted to use the string 'self' in the arguments? What is the way to do this? Is my architecture all wrong or something? Thanks.
