• Wait window in a windows application

  I basically need to show a wait window to the user. For this i have put two seperate window forms in the application. the first form is the main form with a button. The second one is a empty one with just a label text. On click of the button in Form1 i do the below Form2 f = new Form2(); f.Show(); Thread.Sleep(2000); f.Close(); My idea here is to show the wait window to the user for 2 second. But when i do this the Form 2 is not completely loaded because of which the label in it is blank. Please let me know your inputs on this.

• How to find which method makes my iPhone app slow ?

  Currently I am working on a production app. One function acts like the settings.app on iPhone. When the user click a cell of a tableView, as shown below http://www.penguintech.net/images/stackoverflow/1.png It will push another view, which includes a textfield to let user input something. However, on both simulator and device, after the app just loaded, the delay between clicking and showing the second view takes around 2 seconds. Then if user get back to previous view and click again, it will be no delay at all. To detect which method makes the delay, I put a NSLog() in every involved methods, but when I was inspecting the console while running the app, all NSLog() message showed in 0.1 seconds, and then still a delay on the app. Is there any other way to trace the performance footage of a app? The Instruments shows only CPU usage in Mac OS not in iPhone.

• jQuery tabs work in Safari and firefox but show up as bullet point in IE

  I am using the jquery tabs . It shows up fine in Safari and firefox, however it will not load correct in IE. They show up as bullet points in stead of tabs. Basically I have an EF model and I am adding some Eager Loaded entities and i want to put them in the partial class context Eager namespace. • Listing known CSS classes using Javascript

  I'm trying to find a good way to collect the names of classes defined in the stylesheets included with a given document. I know about document.StyleSheetList but it doesn't seem like it'd be easy to parse. What I'm looking for is something like, for a stylesheet document such as: .my_class { background: #fff000; } .second_class { color: #000000; } I could extract an array like ["my_class", "second_class"]. This obviously assumes the favorable scenario of a fully loaded dom and stylesheets. I've been looking everywhere for a good way to do something like this and so far, have made little progress. Does anyone have any idea about how to pull this off? Thanks!

• Rails: Creating subfolders in model?

  I'm going to have a ton of subclasses, so want to organize them under a subfolder called stream. I added the following line to the environment.rb so that all classes in the subfolder would be loaded: Rails::Initializer.run do |config| ... config.load_paths += Dir["#{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/*"].find_all { |f| File.stat(f).directory? } ... end I thought this would solve the issue in which by convention the model class is namespaced into an according module. However, when I try to call one of the classes called stream in the stream folder, I get the following error: NoMethodError: undefined method `new' for Stream:Module from (irb):28 from /usr/local/bin/irb:12:in `<main>' Here's the model for the parent and one child: class Stream end class EventStream < Stream end Any idea what the issue is?

• Image visualization with canvas. How to resize them?

  I'm building a website photo gallery for a friend. Images are loaded as simple DOM image objects (<img src="" />), and the size of these images is based on the browser size. So I resize them with CSS. This isn't an optimal solution since CSS resizing seems to change the quality of the image and pixelate it quite a bit. I was thinking of rendering the image with canvas and then resize it with that so that the quality remains effective, but I can't find any info about this online. Any ideas?

• How to dynamically add a Javascript function (and invoke)

  Based on a click event on the page, via ajax I fetch a block of html and script, I am able to take the script element and append it to the head element, however WebKit based browsers are not treating it as script (ie. I cannot invoke a function declared in the appended script). Using the Chrome Developer Tools I can see that my script node is indeed there, but it shows up differently then a script block that is not added dynamically, a non-dynamic script has a text child element and I cannot figure out a way to duplicate this for the dynamic script. Any ideas or better ways to be doing this? The driving force is there is potentially a lot of html and script that would never be needed unless a user clicks on a particular tab, in which case the relevant content (and script) would be loaded.   the title is somewhat vague, so let me explain I'm trying to ask the user for a value of some variable, but at the same time, showing him the last value used (at the termination of the program, the values are saved to a file, and loaded at the start of the program). Something like this: Enter new radius value (R=12.6) : ... user enters 12.7 ... Enter new pi value (pi=3.14) : Enter new height value (h=30.0) : Usually I would write the first one with write statement, then read the new one (in fortran, for example). In matlab however, I don't know how to write something out with input statement. Are there some other statements for getting input ? All your thoughts on the subject appreciated.

• Can an appdomain in C# be restricted to one directory?

  I am developing a plugin host. The plugins should have as little trust as they need, however I want to have the possibility for a plugin to read and write files. Can the AppDomain where the assembly will be loaded be restricted to have access to only one directory for reading and writing? Other options and ways to go about this are also appreciated like for example easy ways to stream file data from the host to the plugin (reading) and from the plugin to the host (writing).   I have a solution containing asp.net project class library WCF service class library WCF service application I've added a project refference from the asp.net project to the class library project and to the service class library project. I've published the asp.net application, loaded it to the webserver root. all ok. Now for the service, I've created a new folder on the root called WCF, and placed the aplication in there. Is this The way I should deploy the sollution? Are this the steps when you have more than a simple asp.net application? • Continuous playing swf on Static Website.

  Hello. I have a music player swf embedded on an html page. Is there any way to have the music continuously play, even when the different html pages are loaded? When a link is clicked, the page is refreshed, also restarting the swf(music). If the site was AJAX driven, this wouldn't be a problem, but all my pages are static. I suppose I could put the entire body in an iframe, but there has to be a better option. I am certainly open to the idea of using ajax here, but I do not have much ajax experience. Any ideas?

  Hi all, i am writing a software that i have to drill down on content a lot. For example when the program starts a listview is displayed. When user clicks on an item, then a second listview must be displayed. For example: Select Continent Select Country Select State Select City Select Address What is the best way to do this (less memory, faster, easier to code etc)? To create multiple listviews with multiple adapters? Or 1 listview with multiple Adapters? Lists are loaded from an external XML File. So far i am creating a new adapter and setting it to the listview. How do i create a second listview and after clicking on 1st listview displaying the second one, with animation. Any examples? • multiple regionDidChangeAnimated calls - what gives?

  I have a MKMapView inside a UITableView as a custom cell (don't ask ;) - don't know if it matters really), for which I register a regionDidChangeAnimated delegate method. This method gets called three times when the UITableView is loaded - once with the actual region and then two more times with a region that is way off. In the simulator, I consistently get a region with center (+37.43997405, -97.03125000). On the device, it seems to depend on the location reported by the location manager, which initializes the map view. Why am I getting three regionDidChangeAnimated calls? And why are the center coordinates for the last two of them off? • iPad --- managedObject problem when [self.tableViewSection reloadData]

  Hi , I am creating a news aggregator application that fetches a xml feed every 4 minutes. After the xml is loaded, I clear everything by deleting all the objects in the database, then save the new objects back into the database. I then call [self.tableViewSection reloadData]; to reload the tableView. Thats when I get a problem. As soon as the code gets to a section where i access the new [[managedObject valueForKey:@"event_text"] description] content it fails with a : * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'CoreData could not fulfill a fault for '0x4b3f6a0 '' Now from the flow I described on top, it seems odd to me that the tableView is populated properly the next time i launch the application, with the "new" data I fetched in the previous session. So its not that data thats corrupt , but seems to me something goes wrong when I refetch the managedObject after saving new data. Also keep in mind thats this app runs fine on the iPhone, its the iPad thats is giving me this problem.

• LoadViewState not fired on my user control

  I have a user control nested in a repeater. Inside my user control I have another repeater and in that I have a panel. I am trying to override the LoadViewState event of my user control and dynamically add controls to the panel. I want to do it in the LoadViewState so that the dynamic controls get added before the viewstate gets loaded, so they retain their values after post backs. For some reason the LoadViewState event on the user control (ascx) is not firing. Is there some way to force it to fire, or is there another method I could use? I have ruled out the user controls repeater databind event, because I need it to work even if data binding isn't happening and I can't do it on the repeaters item created event either because the child panel and inner html doesn't exist yet.

• Can .NET AppDomains do this?

  I've spent hours reading up about AppDomains, but I'm not sure they work quite like I'm hoping. If I have two classes, Foo in AppDomain #1, Bar in AppDomain #2: App Domain #1 is the application. App Domain #2 is something like a plugin, and can be loaded and unloaded dynamically. AppDomain #2 wants to create Foo and use it. Foo uses lots of classes in AppDomain #1 internally. I don't want AppDomain #2 using object foo with reflection, I want it to use Foo foo, with all the static typing and compiled speed that goes with it. Can this be done considering that AppDomain #1, containing Foo, is never unloaded? If so, does any remoting take place here when using Foo? When I unload AppDomain #2, the type Foo is destroyed?

  Can a Java application be loaded in a separate process using its name, as opposed to its location, in a platform independent manner? I know you can execute a program via ... Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( COMMAND ); ... the main issue of this method is that such calls are then platform specific. Ideally, I'd wrap a method into something as simple as... EXECUTE.application( CLASS_TO_BE_EXECUTED ); ... and pass in the fully qualified name of an application class as CLASS_TO_BE_EXECUTED.

• asp.net drop down list viewstate issue after client side Ajax update

  In my aspx page I have drop down list that initialy in page load event loads up with list of values which is shown to client(drop down list "A") and in client side, depending on client selecion of another drop down list(drop down list "B") I have written a javascript to update drop down list "A" with corresponding values with Ajax behaviour(without full page postback). But when we post page to the server, in server side page load event shows initialy sent list of values for drop down list "A" but not the values that were loaded by Ajax calls due to ViewState not being updated correctly due to Ajax call. I could fix this easily with update panel but it increased Ajax request size to 44KB which is much higher than what currently is for hand made Ajax script I have written( 0.5KB) Is there special way of fixing this rather than using update panel?

  (WARNING: this is my first java application, coming from .NET, so don't bash me if I write too much garbage) I'm developing a simple JSF 1.2 web application which should support Russian, Chinese, and other languages outside ISO 8859-1, which is automatically used in Properties.load(). Is there a way to use the Properties loaded from XML files, with Properties.loadFromXml(), inside JSF, without writing too much code? I know there are alternative ways to do so (writing my own loader, escaping the characters...), but I'd really love to find a simple solution, and I don't see it in all the forums I checked. • session variable not available in global before(:each, :type => :controller)

  Hi, I'm refactoring some specs, in controller specs I have a before(:each) which sets up things required in the session my before filter is... config.before(:each, :type => :controller) do ... session[:current_user] = @user session[:instance] = @instance ... end @user and @instance are also set in the before(:each) i've just hidden them for readability here I get the following error when running the controller tests undefined method `session' for nil:NilClass I would expect the global before callbacks to have the same things as the ones in the individual tests but I guess maybe they are loaded before the rails environment has been initialised?
