  • Get your picture on the screen at MIX11: Help me create a repository of sample data

    Here is your chance to get your picture on the big screen during my MIX11 presentation in April this year. I need to create a small repository of sample data for my demos. So instead of tapping in my imagination and creating dummy users (or reusing past information I already used in other demos), I thought I would appeal to the amazing community: Send me an email with the following information. I will include the first 30 users into my sample data repository and use your info in my demo. First Name Last Name Date of birth Picture Link to Facebook profile (optional) Disclaimer: The data will only be running locally on my hard drive. The demos will however be filmed and the videos made public. By providing this information, you explicitly consent to this data being used in demos at MIX11 and possibly in following conferences.   • Is there a program to manage movies and TV shows that supports mp4 tags?

    I'm looking for a media manager that will display and play movies and TV shows and will read data included in mp4 and m4v files. So far I've looked at XBMC, Moovida and Boxee and all of these seem to keep their own separate database or XML files for reading and storing tag information. I also looked at Banshee because of this answer, but it didn't read my tags. Banshee is also geared towards music videos instead of actual movies and TV shows. So I'm looking for software that Displays and plays movies and TV Shows Reads mp4 and m4v tags Preferably something with bulk import (i.e., I don't want to add 1,000 items to a new library) Bonus if it also has a tag editor Bonus if it's an XBMC extension

    I currently reading a lot about Design Patterns and I have been watching various Pluralsight videos from their library. Now so far I have learnt the following: Repository Pattern Unit of Work Pattern Abstract Factory Pattern Reading the awesome "DI in .NET" book Now I read lot about Services and Service Layers and wanted some advice about the best place to read up and learn about these. I presume this fits into Domain Driven Design and I should start there? The term "Service" just seem to be used widely within IT and it can be confusing the exact meaning. So my questions is: What is the Service Layer Where is the best place to learn about them. I know there are probably tonnes of interweb/books/blogs on the subject, but some good areas to start from would be nice. If I'm being too vague, let me know.

  • Managing large downloadable content on mobile devices

    This is a general question of how to best manage large downloadable content on mobile devices. Lets consider a situation whereby a mobile app needs to download a number of very large content items, like HD videos, that are over 500MB but under 2GB. Now, lets assume this content delivery system should be scalable. Would it be a fair assumption that: A reputable cloud service would be needed - if so, what is a reliable and cost effective cloud service for mobile devices based on anyone's experience? Large content downloads should only be attempted over a wifi connection, so the end user doesn't incur large costs, e.g. when travelling. Downloads should carry on in the background if possible, as the user won't want to wait in an app for long periods. If the downloads don't finish, or the OS quits the app, all downloads should carry on when the app is next activated? Are there any other pitfalls anyone may have experienced when managing large content on mobile devices? Thanks.

  • How to configure an Ubuntu 12.04 virtual server and VMWare ESXi5 the way VMWare would be able to shut it down properly?

    I run an Ubuntu 12.04 server as a virtual machine on a VMWare ESXi 5 server. I've configured VMWare to shut the quest machines down the sane way (with an ACPI (if I understand it righ) shutdown signal so that guest OSes would do it). And this works with other VMs (running Windows 7 Professional and openSuSE) but doesn't work with the Ubuntu server - VMWare still offers just to power them off when I ask it to stop the guest. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Left Mouse Button not Working

    I recent changed from ubuntu to xubuntu 12.04. The install worked great for a few days, but suddenly the left mouse button stopped working. The right click and scroll bars work fine. After a bit of experimenting I discovered that the problem only happens when I set the session to Xubuntu at login. The mouse also works fine in my dual-booted windows vista. What could make my mouse stop working like that?

  • Flash audio problem; redirecting to Pulse?

    I am having a problem where the sound on flash objects other than YouTube videos are giving a strange distortion. It has a high pitched pulse sound every second or less that resembles skips on a record. I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. Does anyone have an idea what I could do to fix this? I am running Xubuntu 11.10. I think I might have redirected everything to pulse using a config file but I cannot seem to find it anywhere. It used the lines 'type pulse' in it. If anyone knows what I am talking about and how to find that file or whether or not it has any relevance I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Can not install Ubuntu on Samsung Ultrabook Series 5 (Win 7!)

    I have a Samsung Ultrabook Series 5 with Windows 7 (which I want to keep)... I can boot from a USB stick without a problem and ubuntu work fine, but when I want to install it, the installation progress is stopped and it won't go further. It stop with the message: Checking filesystem Before that, I got also a message, that the system can't unmount the /cdrom (which the ultrabook doesn't have!) Thank you very much for help!

  • What is the shortcut key to skip the song in rhythmbox?

    When Rhythmbox is not active/not focused and when I am on some other application window. How to skip/stop/resume songs that are playing in Rhythmbox. Is there any shortcut key to do that? I know when I am on Ubuntu desktop I can press Alt+10 to get the focus of indicator applets from there I can navigate to Rhythmbox and use arrow keys to skip it ( <- / - ) but is there any other direct shortcut to do this?   • Independent HTML5 Physics Game: Any Feedback? [closed]

    I've been independently developing a physics-based HTML5 game. I haven't used any libraries or engines; all the code, including the physics, is my own. It is free for a while on the Chrome Web Store and I was hoping that I could get some feedback on it. I know this is not a normal question, but I'm happy for answers to be abstracted/generalized for broader use. Im asking here because I don't know anyone else personally who does this stuff. Any thoughts, comments or ideas you might have would be greatly appreciated! The physics system is written in JavaScript and works by setting up the differential equations of motion (plus a few conditions) and evaluating them numerically using the Euler method. The graphics are done through the HTML5 canvas and the music is done through the audio element. (Said music is in the public domain by the way).   • Vmware Server Console stops responding to clicks

    I had installed vmware-server-console just fine. But when yoou open it an as soon as you click in a virtual machine, thats it, the app stop working but not freeze, it just stops recognizing where you click, everywhere you click it puts the cursor inside the VM, you cant switch VMs, cant do rigth clic on the left menu, theres not even the toolbar. I try login in with a classic ubuntu session, but this behavior persist. Is there a way to fix this.

  • ubuntu 12.04 html5 video jumps out of fullscreen when I change volume [closed]

    Often I can't play html5 videos at all until after a relogin. I have a lenovo t500 with an ati hd3650. My sense is that it's the pop up notice that kills fullscreen. The "popup" notice refers to the notice that always pops up in the upper right hand corner when ubuntu announces something. In this case it pops up when I change the volume and video immediately jumps out of fullscreen. The question is: can I do something about the lack of fullscreen in youtube html5 or is it something I just have to accept?
