  Not sure if this has something to do the live host I'm working with, but I'm using @font-face in the following format, @font-face { font-family: 'UbuntuTitle'; src: url('Ubuntu-Title-webfont.eot'); src: local('?'), url('Ubuntu-Title-webfont.woff') format('woff'), url('Ubuntu-Title-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'), url('Ubuntu-Title-webfont.svg') format('svg'); font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; } I'm finding though that I can't save the document because of the strange character in () in local local('?') so I save it as UTF-8, but that changes the character to this local('☺'). Could that be the reason why it's not being picked up on the server? Any other possibilities?

• Best way to have unique key over 500M varchar(255) records in mysql/innodb?

  I have url column with unique key over it - but its performance on updates is absolutely atrocious. I suspect that's because the index doesn't all fit in memory. So I was thinking, how about adding a column of md5(url) with 16 bytes of binary data and unique-keying that instead. What would be the best datatype for that? I'd love to be able to just see 32-character hex hash, while mysql would convert it to/from 16 binary bytes and index that, as programs using the database might have some troubles with arbitrary binary data that I'd rather avoid if possible (also I'm a bit afraid that mysql might get some strange ideas about character sets and for example overalocating storage for that by 3:1 because it thinks it might need utf8, how do I avoid that for cure?).

• Lightbox getting open multiple time on enter.

  Hi All, I am going through a weird problem while using lightbox . Where ever the new light box is used user is able to open the same light box on same page number of time. For e.g Using tab button go to `Lightbox link`. Press enter --> Light box will open. Press enter --> second light box open below the previous one. and so on....... The problem is occurred when I use tab and entered on the link my focus is not getting changed from the link and so user is able to open multiple lightbox on clicking enter. • C# Console Application - Odd behaviour - char '\a'

  After extensive debugging of an application, I noticed the console window would hang when searching text for the char '\a'. The goal is to strip out characters from a file. The console window would always hang upon exiting the program, and it would make it to the last statement of main. I removed the '\a' from the switch statement and the console application does not hang anymore. Any idea why? • How do I declare a C# Web User Control but stop it from initializing?

  I have a C#/ASP.NET .aspx page that declares two controls that each represents the content of one tab. I want a query string argument (e.g., ?tab=1) to determine which of the two controls is activated. My problem is, they both go through the initialization events and populate their child controls, wasting CPU resources and slowing the response time. Is it possible to deactivate them somehow so they don't go through any initialization? My .aspx page looks like this: <% if (TabId == 0) { %> <my:usercontroltabone id="ctrl1" runat="server" /> <% } else if (TabId == 1) { %> <my:usercontroltabtwo id="ctrl2" runat="server" /> <% } %> And that part works fine. I assumed the that <%'s would have meant the control wouldn't actually be declared and so wouldn't initialize, but that isn't so...

  I use the following query: select * from A LEFT JOIN B on ( A.t_id != B.t_id) to get all the records in A that are not in B. The results are fine except when table B is completely empty, but then I do not get any records, even from table A. Later It wont work yet!   I found some partial help but cannot seem to fully accomplish what I need. I need to be able to do the following: I need an regular expression to replace any 1 to 3 character words between two words that are longer than 3 characters with a match any expression: For example: walk to the beach == walk(.*)beach If the 1 to 3 character word is not preceded by a word that's longer than 3 characters then I want to translate that 1 to 3 letter word to ' ?' For example: on the beach == on ?the ?beach The simpler the rule the better (of course, if there's an alternative more complicated version that's more performant then I'll take that as well as I eventually anticipate heavy usage eventually). This will be used in a PHP context most likely with preg_replace. Thus, if you can put it in that context then even better!

  I have written the following script. It opens a file, reads each line from it splitting by new line character and deleting first character in line. If line exists it's being added to array. Next each element of array is splitted by whitespace, sorted alphabetically and joined again. Every line is printed because script is fired from console and writes everything to file using standard output. I'd like to optimize this code to be more pythonic. • iPhone: increasing size of view frame in a UItabbarcontroller?

  I currently have a UITabBarController defined, with the tab bar moved a few pixels down to make it thinner: self.tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init]; self.tabBarController.tabBar.frame=CGRectMake(0,self.window.bounds.size.height-38.5,self.window.bounds.size.width,50); [self.window addSubview:self.tabBarController.view]; I then have a UIViewController object assigned to the first tab using: Home *home = [[Home alloc] initWithNibName:@"Home" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *nHome = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:home]; nHome.tabBarItem.image=[UIImage imageNamed:@"home.png"]; [tabBarController setViewControllers:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:nHome,nil]]; As a result, there is a thin sliver of space between the tabbarcontroller and the view. • Need advice on multitab form in ASP.NET MVC

  Hi all, i need an advice on how to implement my form. I have a requirement: i need a form that spans through 5 tabs. Each tab has around 10 fields, some of them empty, some of them must contain data from db and be non editable. Each of these tabs must be a part of one form that is submitted to my controller. The question is: what is the best way to implement this? I was thinking about having partial views on each tab, each view would have its own model class. After form gets filled all data from all partials would go to action that will take care of all of it. Any advices? I am using ASP.NET MVC 1, Entity Framework 1, mvc extensions from Telerik and jQuery

• How to identify/handle text file newlines in Java?

  Hi Everyone! I get files in different formats coming from different systems that I need to import into our database. Part of the import process it to check the line length to make sure the format is correct. We seem to be having issues with files coming from UNIX systems where one character is added. I suspect this is due to the return carriage being encoded differently on UNIX and windows platform. Is there a way to detect on which file system a file was created, other than checking the last character on the line? Or maybe a way of reading the files as text and not binary which I suspect is the issue? Thanks Guys !

  Hi! I'm doing a conversion between two software which both use XML so the actual conversion part is fairly straightforward - adding text here, removing others here, converting a few information. I'm using VBSCript WSH. The only issue I'm still having is the darn &#13; character - that's my problem! I've tried both strText = Replace(strText, "&#13;", "") and using a regex with Regex.pattern = "&#13;" ... neither works. I also tried replacing char(13), VBCR... nothing seems to detect the actual string itself and not the character it's creating. Can anyone help me?

  Running Rails 2.3.9 and just upgraded to Ruby 1.9.2p0. I have been putting: # encoding: utf-8 in a bunch of my .rb files where ever "£" character is used, and this seems to be working. But i just got my first view error: invalid byte sequence in US-ASCI for this line of code: <%= number_to_currency(product.price, :unit => "£", :precision => 0) %> I don't think its a coincidence that the "£" character is involved again. Any ideas on how to solve this please? Thanks

If operator<< assumes as a second parameter a pointer to the function that takes and returns ostream &, then please explain my why it is necessary? What would be wrong if the function does not take and return ostream & but it was void instead of ostream &? Also it is interesting why “dec”, “hex” manipulators take effect until I don’t change between them, but user defined manipulators should be always used in order to take effect for each streaming?

  I have a table like this, where one column is latin1, the other is UTF-8: Create Table: CREATE TABLE `names` ( `name_english` varchar(255) character NOT NULL, `name_chinese` varchar(255) character set utf8 default NULL, ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 When I do an insert, I have to type _utf8 before values being inserted into UTF-8 columns: insert into names (name_english = "hooey", name_chinese = _utf8 "??"); However, since MySQL should know that name_chinese is a UTF-8 column, it should be able to know to use _utf8 automatically. Is there any way to tell MySQL to use _utf8 automatically, so when I'm programatically making prepared statements, I don't have to worry about including it with the right parameters?

• Prevent keypress whilst shift key is held

  I'm trying to prevent certain keys from being entered into an input box, but only if that particular key is pressed whilst the shift key is held: $('selector').keydown(function(e) { console.log(e.shiftKey); if (e.shiftKey && e.which == 51) { e.preventDefault(); alert('Disallowed'); } }); The alert fires but the character still appears in the text box. If I remove e.shiftKey from the if statement and press the key (without shift held), the alert fires and the character does not appear in the text box. I've tried searching around for an explanation as to why this happens but to no avail, any help would be greatly appreciated! edit Removing the alert seems to fix the problem (which seems bizarre), I'd really love to know why it behaves in this way though, it doesn't seem to make any sense.   I am building a firefox extension. In this extension, I want to see the URLs of any new webpage that the user visits. The webpage can be in a different tab or window than the current tab that the user is viewing (this should also catch the URL of pop-ups). Is there a way to find when firefox makes a GET or POST request and grab the URL? An alternative that I am trying to avoid is going through all the tabs and manually check to see if they have loaded a new page. Thanks

  I am currently trying to build a very basic serial shell with my arduino. I am able to get an output from the device using Serial.read() and can get the character it has outputted, but I cannot work out how to then add that character to a longer to form the full command.
