  • Can "\Device\NamedPipe\\Win32Pipes" handles cause "Too many open files" error?

    Continuing from this question: When I am trying to do fopen on Windows, I get a "Too many open files" error. I tried to analyze, how many open files I have, and seems like not too much. But when I executed Process Explorer, I noticed that I have many open handles with similar names: "\Device\NamedPipe\Win32Pipes.00000590.000000e2", "\Device\NamedPipe\Win32Pipes.00000590.000000e3", etc. I see that the number of these handles is exactly equal to the number of the iterations that my program executed, before it returned "Too many open files" and stopped. I am looking for an answer, what are these handles, and could they actually cause the "Too many open files" error? In my program I am loading files from remote drive, and I am creating TCP/IP connections. Could one of these operations create these handles?

    I am working on some projects as a developer(PHP,MySQL) in which AJAX and jQuery is already implemented. But now I want to learn implementation of AJAX and jQuery stuff. Can anyone tell me the exact steps with explanation? I have created a project in Zend. There is only one controller(IndexController) and two actions(a and b) in my project now. Now I want to use ajax in my project. But I don't know how to start. I read some tutorial but unable to completely understand. I have index.phtml like this: <a href='index/a'>Load info A</a> <br/> <a href='index/b'>Load info B</a> <br /> <div id=one>load first here<div> <div id=two>load second here</div> Here index is controller in links. a and b are actions. now I have four files like this: a1.phtml I am a1 a2.phtml I am a2 b1.phtml I am b1 b2.phtml I am b2 I think you have got my point. When user clicks first link (Load info A) then a1.phtml should be loaded into div one and a2.phtml should be loaded into div two When user clicks second link (Load info B) then b1.phtml should be loaded into div one and b2.phtml should be loaded into div two And someone tell me the purpose of JSON in this process and how to use this also?     I have a link in my system as displayed above; 'viewauthorbooks.php?authorid=4' which works fine and generates a page displaying the books only associated with the particular author. However I am implementing another feature where the user can sort the columns (return date, book name etc) and I am using the ORDER BY SQL clause. I have this also working as required for other pages, which do not already have another query in the URI. But for this particular page there is already a paramter returned in the URL, and I am having difficulty in extending it. When the user clicks on the a table column title I'm getting an error, and the original author ID is being lost!! This is the URI link I am trying to use: <th><a href="viewauthorbooks.php?authorid=<?php echo $row['authorid']?>&orderby=returndate">Return Date</a></th> This is so that the data can be sorted in order of Return Date. When I run this; the author ID gets lost for some reason, also I want to know if I am using correct layout to have 2 parameters run in the address? Thanks.

    Does ColdFusion offer a mechanism for splitting CFCs into multiple files? I am NOT talking about extension, I am talking about splitting the SAME CFC into multiple files; the same way C# allows for "partial" classes. The reason for this is because I am using T4 to generate a bunch of CFCs and I want to be able to tag functionality onto the generated CFC by doing so in another file. I want to do this in a way that doesn't violate the Open-Closed Principle.

    Hi, I am having SYBASE 12.5 install on my server as well as my PC, I am unable to get the correct connection string. I have used the connectionstrings.com but unable to get the correct one. After runnig and making the connection Driver={Sybase ASE ODBC Driver};srvr=server_name;database=database_name;UID=user_name;PWD=pass; and some other combination of thic connection string I am getting the Datasource ="" Driver ="" DataBase="" ServerVersion = Invalid Operation. Connection is closed What am I suppose to correct in that. Please help. Thanks

  • Why use Entity Framework over Linq2SQL ...

    To be clear, I am not asking for a side by side comparision which has already been asked Ad Nauseum here on SO. I am also Not asking if Linq2Sql is dead as I don't care. What I am asking is this.... I am building internal apps only for a non-profit organization. I am the only developer on staff. We ALWAYS use SQL Server as our Database backend. I design and build the Databases as well. I have used L2S successfully a couple of times already. Taking all this into consideration can someone offer me a compelling reason to use EF instead of L2S? I was at Code Camp this weekend and after an hour long demonstration on EF, all of which I could have done in L2S, I asked this same question. The speakers answer was, "L2S is dead..." Very well then! NOT! (see here) I understand EF is what MS WANTS us to use in the future(see here) and that it offers many more customization options. What I can't figure out is if any of that should, or does, matter for me in this environment. One particular issue we have here is that I inherited the Core App which was built on 4 different SQL Data bases. L2S has great difficulty with this but when I asked the aforementioned speaker if EF would help me in this regard he said "No!"

  • Bracketing algorithm when root finding. Single root in "quadratic" function

    I am trying to implement a root finding algorithm. I am using the hybrid Newton-Raphson algorithm found in numerical recipes that works pretty nicely. But I have a problem in bracketing the root. While implementing the root finding algorithm I realised that in several cases my functions have 1 real root and all the other imaginary (several of them, usually 6 or 9). The only root I am interested is in the real one so the problem is not there. The thing is that the function approaches the root like a cubic function, touching with the point the y=0 axis... Newton-Rapson method needs some brackets of different sign and all the bracketing methods I found don't work for this specific case. What can I do? It is pretty important to find that root in my program... EDIT: more problems: sometimes due to reaaaaaally small numerical errors, say a variation of 1e-6 in some value the "cubic" function does NOT have that real root, it is just imaginary with a neglectable imaginary part... (checked with matlab) EDIT 2: Much more information about the problem. Ok, I need root finding algorithm. Info I have: The root I need to find is between [0-1] , if there are more roots outside that part I am not interested in them. The root is real, there may be imaginary roots, but I don't want them. Probably all the rest of the roots will be imaginary The root may be double in that point, but I think that actually doesn't mater in numerical analysis problems I need to use the root finding algorithm several times during the overall calculations, but the function will always be a polynomial In one of the particular cases of the root finding, my polynomial will be similar to a quadratic function that touches Y=0 with the point. Example of a real case: The coefficient may not be 100% precise and that really slight imprecision may make the function not to touch the Y=0 axis. I cannot solve for this specific case because in other cases it may be that the polynomial is pretty normal and doesn't make any "strange" thing. The method I am actually using is NewtonRaphson hybrid, where if the derivative is really small it makes a bisection instead of NewRaph (found in numerical recipes).   • How to use a c# datagridview to update a database file just like Access does?

    I have googled everywhere and I am finally giving up and asking here. I am working in Visual Studio 2010 with C#. I have set up a form with a datagridview connected to a MSSQL database and I need to save changes made in the datagridview back to the physical database. I am having some success but I think that I am going about some of it completely wrong because I can not get it to save consistently. What I really want is for the updates to work just like they do when working with Access. When I edit a row in the datagridview and then leave that row, either by selecting another row or by selecting some other control on the form or even by changing to another form or quitting the application the row should be automatically pdated to the physical database. The first part of this question I think is, what is the proper event to use to trigger the save and then second what methods should be used to actually write the data to the database?

    Hi, well I am having a problem renaming the ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll file to anythig else. I am trying to shorten the file name. I reference the assembly in the project, but when the program reaches the statements where I use the library. It spawns an error that it could not find the assembly or file 'ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib'. When I change the file name back to ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll the application works noramally. So, is there any way to change the file name. Also, am I allowed to change it without violating the license (I am going to use it in a commercial application). Thanks.

  • Memory leak appears only when multiprocessing

    I am trying to use python's multiprocessing library to hopefully gain some performance. Specifically I am using its map function. Now, for some reason when I swap it out with its single threaded counterpart I don't get any memory leaks over time. But using the multiprocessing version of map causes my memory to go through the roof. For the record I am doing something which can easily hog up loads of memory, but what would the difference be between the two to cause such a stark difference?

An import library is a library that automates the process of loading and using a dynamic library. On Windows, this is typically done via a small static library (.lib) of the same name as the dynamic library (.dll). The static library is linked into the program at compile time, and then the functionality of the dynamic library can effectively be used as if it were a static library. this might be what they might be eluding to.....I am not sure how to make this in vs2008 . Additional facts: I have a static lib that i use in my current application. Now, I have to convert my app that uses that static lib into an import lib so that they can use a third party prog to access the API's they providede me which in turn will use that static lib i am using. I hope I am clearly explaining this. I am just not sure how to go about it in vs2008. I am looking for specific steps to do this. I already have the coding done. Just need to convert it into the form they are asking and I have to provide the API they want. Other than that then I need to create a test prog which will act as that third party prog so I can make sure my import library works.

    I am trying to calculate the necessary sample size for a 2x2 factorial design. I have two questions. 1) I am using the package pwr and the one way anova function to calculate the necessary sample size using the following code pwr.anova.test(k = , n = , f = , sig.level = , power = ) However, I would like to look at two way anova, since this is more efficient at estimating group means than one way anova. There is no two-way anova function that I could find. Is there a package or routine in [R] to do this? 2) Moreover, am I safe in assuming that since I am using a one-way anova power calculations, that the sample size will be more conservative (i.e. larger)?
