• sharepoint 3.0 site restore/import trouble...

  Hi, We have some old sharepoint data (from a WSS 3.0 SP1 or SP2 install), that I need to restore. Problem is: This is a time management site, and one of the fields automatically pics up the user name of the user that enters data, and this is used to keep track of who worked when. Now, when I import this into my temporary sharepoint 3.0 server, these fields are blanked, and the creator of the element is replaced by my admin user (the account that ran the import job). So, to the question: Is there any way at all to grab hold of these data before the sharepoint import job "destroys" them? I'm using stsadm -o import. I don't care if I have to pick the database itself apart manually, I just need to know if it's possible to get hold of these fields with data intact from my export files... (Backup you say? It was deleted loong ago. This sharepoint export is all we have...)

Is there a way to do this within Excel?

• Open file in local text editor from within an SSH connection

  I'm not a vim guy. I'd like to be able to open log files in Sublime Text when in an SSH connection from within Terminal. Is there a way I could do this? I'm thinking there must be a command or something that could copy the file over to a temporary directory in OS X and then open it in Sublime Text, and when I save it, it'll copy back to the original location through SSH; similar to how FileZilla does it. I'm on Mac OS X MT. The server I SSH into is running Ubuntu. I'm using Terminal.

• Certain selected files are not deleting when I use Disk Cleanup

  I am using Windows 7 and have been trying to retrieve disk space, but when I run Disk Cleanup the Temporary Internet files (18.1KB) and System archived Windows Error Report (267KB) will not delete. It goes through the process as if they are being deleted, but my disk space remains the same; I then go back to Disk Cleanup to see if they have been removed and they are still there. I have tried removing them individually as well, but the outcome is still the same. Can someone please tell me why this is happening and what I can do to get them to delete properly?

• When using gt5 in my home directory I get a blank page.

  When using gt5 in various directories on my system (including my home directory) I get blank results. If I limit the max-depth enough, I get results. For example, in my home directory 'gt5 --max-depth 2' produces a listing, while 'gt5 --max-depth 3' produces a blank page. I've noticed that the temporary html file that gets created in tmp (such as '/tmp/gt5.9035.kJVM08Y9/gt5.html' is a zero-byte file. I can successfully do a du in the same directory (which is what I thought gt5 was using), so I'm not sure what to check?

  I'm trying to run a service that uses $HOME and $USER environment variables. I could set them in service itself, but that would only be a temporary solution. Let's say I have a script test.sh with following content: echo $USER And I run it with start-stop-daemon to see my results: $ start-stop-daemon --start --exec `pwd`/test.sh --user guest --group guest --chuid -guest root Seems like it does not update environment, maybe that should be reported as a bug? I have found a nasty hacky solution, which only works (for unknown reason) on my this simple use case: $ start-stop-daemon --exec /usr/bin/sudo --start -- -u guest -i 'echo $USER' guest I'm sure someone else stumbled upon this, I'm interested in clean solution. $ start-stop-daemon --version start-stop-daemon 1.13.11+gentoo

• What would cause a query being ran from SSMS on local box to run slower then from remote box

  When I run a simply query such as "Select Column1, Column2 from Table A" from within SSMS running on my production SQL Server the results seems to take extremely long (45Min). If I run the same query from my dev system’s SSMS connecting to the production SQL Server the results return within a few seconds (<60sec). One thing I have notices is if the system was just rebooted performance is good for a bit. It is hard to determine a time as I have had it start running slow very quickly after reboot but at most it performed good for 20min and then start acting up. Also, just restarting the SQL service does not resolve the issue or provide a temporary performance boost. Specs for Server are: Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, SP2 4 X Intel Xeon 3.6GHz - 6GB System Memory Active/Active Cluster SQL Server 2005 SP2 (9.0.3239)

  I've got an issue I would rather handle with the array online - I am using RAID0 for temporary video storage - data that is low-cost to restore, but that is used frequently. The software array looks like this: md1 : active raid0 sdb1[2] sdc1[3] sdd1[0] sde1[1] 1953487616 blocks 64k chunks I have another partition (sda1) in this system, that I want to use to replace sdc1 (The drives are of varying age, and sdc1 is definitely the slowest one, limiting the entire array's sequential read performance to only 300MB/s). Is there a way to migrate the data from sdc1 to sda1 while the array is still online?

  Hi guys, I'm trying to install some CMS software (Wiccle). I was using XAMPP's MySQL but was getting a lot of errors (the same configuration works on another machine) so thought I'd install MySQL Community Edition to see if the proplem was related to the MySQL server. When I install and run the MySQL Community Edition service, however, it only works with my XAMPP password, and contains the same tables as the XAMPP install. Is there a common local database file where the database and login info is stored? Any help appreciated

I'd like to disable this practice both to avoid reg-file fragmentation and SSD wear, as well as being uncomfortable with programs being able to quickly analyze my usage habits. Even with the "Turn off user tracking" policy enabled, there are at least two areas that still contain user tracking: HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\MuiCache This key stores a cache of most-recently accessed strings, including most-recently ran exe descriptions. MKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft Windows\Shell\BagMRU This directory stores the most recently viewed folders along with timestamps. Are there additional policy settings/registry entries to disable these writes? If not, is it possible to make these entries Volatile? Would it be practical to create a temporary hive (eg, on ramdisk) and map it over this location?

  Defining some Tables in SQL-Server which will be accessed via ODBC from MS-Access. I'm not sure about it, put i read somewhere that a primary key must bee named with 'aaaaaPK_ColumnName'. The 5 'a' should manage that the PK is listed first in the dialog for all key's in MS-Access. What do you think about that?

  I rent a server somewhere out in Canada or so that I'm using to host a website of mine. That website has close to 400,000 pages that I wanted to index today. For that, I wrote a crawler a while back (see JCrawler on Stackoverflow.com). Now, I'm greedy and didn't want it to take too long so I ran multiple threads resulting in some 60+ requests per second from my IP. A couple minutes later, my server locked me out. I can still FTP into it, but I can't HTTP it. As server administrator or user, do you have any idea how servers usually handle these situations? Is it common to place a permanent or temporary ban on the IP or what is typically done? Naturally, I'll re-run my software with fewer requests once I'm back on.

• Can I disable OS X Lion Autosave and Versions?

  OK I'm going there: I want to turn off a new feature in OS X that's so infuriating I could swear it was designed by Microsoft, namely, Autosave / Versions. I just don't want it. I have a workflow that involves my trigger finger on cmd-S, I use my own VCS when necessary, I save as compulsively and I open applications like TextEdit and Preview as temporary notepads without wanting any changes saved automatically and without a stupid unlock dialog that then records my changes when I only want to see the changes and not record them. So: please tell me how I can turn off Versions without rolling back to 10.6, and you will be my new personal hero. Thanks! PS: Just asking how to disable, not for a discussion of the pros and cons of the features.

• Reverse proxy with SSL and IP passthrough?

  Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work. How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution. Thanks for your thoughts!

• Resize the /var directory in redhat enterprise edition 4

  I am running NDB mysql. the log files fills up the /var directory. therefore i cant start the ndbd service now. as a temporary fix, i have deleted the log files and again working fine. but again the log files fill up the /var directory. i got plenty of space in other partition. therefore i would like to swap the partition from one directory to /var. here if my input from df -h Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 ext3 54G 2.9G 49G 6% / /dev/cciss/c0d0p1 ext3 99M 14M 81M 14% /boot none tmpfs 1013M 0 1013M 0% /dev/shm /dev/cciss/c0d0p2 ext3 9.7G 9.7G 0 100% /var there are plenty of space in /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00.   I am running mysqldump on Ubuntu Linux (10.0.4 LTS) my mySQL version info is: mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.41, for debian-linux-gnu (i486) using readline 6.1 I used the following command: mysql -u username -p dbname dbname_backup.sql However when I opened the generated .sql file, I saw that most of the tables had only the schema dumped and in the few cases where the actual data was dumped, only 1 or two records were dumped (there are ATLEAST several tens of records in each table). Does anyone know what maybe going on?

My current workaround involves using pivot tables, saving as CSV etc and is very messy. A non-VBA solution would be amazing.

• Backing up a 22 GB MySQL database daily

  Right now I am able to do the backup using mysqldump. But I have to take down the web server AND it takes around 5 minutes to do the backup. If I don't take down the web server, it takes forever and never finishes + the website becomes inaccessible during the backup. Is there a quicker/better way to backup my 22 GB and growing database?   We need a new install of windows server and sql server to replicate a couple of databases to a geographically separate location from an existing application (over a site-to-site VPN). The source database is SQL Server 2005. However, this is a temporary solution since the client is aiming to implement a different system entirely, so we are looking to find the minimum specification of both windows server and sql server to do this. We are finding the SQL server features per edition and licensing a little difficult to understand, hence the question. Am I correct in thinking that we can replicate data using transactional replication from SQL Server 2005 to 2008 web edition and we can install sql server web edition on windows 2008 web edition also? Thanks.
