Is it possible to turn off the clock in the top bar?
I am using the Droid Incredible running Android 2.1.
If there is an app I can get or make to do this that works too.
Where can I find the key combinations for some actions, in Mozilla Firefox? For example, Ctrl+L moves the cursor to the address bar. I wanna move the cursor in the Google search box, from the right-top position. Which key is associated with this? And some other key combinations?
I hate putting shortcuts/files on desktop as well as crawling through "All Programs" menu any frequently (and I only pin some essential every-day applications to the task bar). So, I put all the programs I occasionally use to the start menu itself (above the automatic recently used programs section). But even though I've switched it to use small icons, I run out of vertical space in it (just about 16 shortcuts fit there at maximum).
Sometimes when I click on the button on the language bar for the IME pad, it won't show up. Is there any other way to get it to show up again besides restarting the computer?
Quick question – do you know any software or way of doing a live screenshot of a window and bring it to the foreground? It’d be like picture link in Excel...
My problem is that I am running various tasks in IE and Oracle, and they take forever but i have no way of seeing if they’re done without tabbing back into them all the time. I want something so that I can always see in the foreground the status bar/egg-timers thingy for them.
Thanks all
I have two input languages in my language bar (windows xp).
The problem is that windows likes changing between them without any intervention.
That's really annoying!
I know about the shortcuts and already turned off Word language detection, but the problem is everywhere (specially command prompt).
I use both languages and I want to change between them only manually. How to turn off this automatic change?
I'm using 8.0.552.224 Chrome. Sometime, over the holidays, my bookmarklets nearly completely disappeared. The bookmarklets are present in the default screen that shows when I open a new tab. However, when I navigate away from that tab (browse further), the bookmarklets bar (usually appearing below the address field) is gone.
Can anybody tell me why the bookmarklets are no longer persisteent and how to get them back
I was trying to find where Electrum stored its wallet files, so I went to C:\ and entered wallet.dat in the search bar (top right), which is supposed to search through the entire C drive (right?), but it didn't find anything.
Later, I manually found the wallet.dat file in C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Electrum_SysFiles\1.1\C_\ElectrumPY. Searching for wallet.dat in C:\ still comes up empty. Why is this?
$ stat -c %s,%o,%b foo.txt
631,4096,8
$ stat -c %s,%o,%b bar.txt
5952,4096,16
Why the number of blocks is always a multiple of 8? I thought the number of blocks of a file is the smallest integer that satisfies filesize <= blocksize * blockcount.
I am streaming an internet radio station through vlc. When its playing in the player, the title bar shows the song title and artist. When going full screen, it shows the song title/artist for a brief moment in white at the bottom of the screen. But, that quickly disappears. It does not come back up when the song changes. Is there a way to keep the stream info on screen while in full screen visualization mode in vlc?
I just installed postgresql onto an ubuntu box.
How can I create user foo with password bar and database baz, so that foo owns baz?
foo is not a unix user.
I have iGoogle as my home page. Every time that I start up Firefox with the intent to go to a specific page, I end up typing half the URL in the Google search box when iGoogle steals focus away from the URL bar. Is there any way to hack Firefox (or iGoogle) to keep the page from stealing my cursor on load? Thanks!
It continues to loop to a BSOD and I cant get a dos prompt or repair screen, I dont have recovery disks but I have brought up a window, black, with gray title bar that is labeled Edit Boot Options, below that it has Edit Windows boot options for: Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium
Path: \WINDOWS\system32\winload.exe
Partition:1
Hard Disk: 1549f232
and then it has a place to enter something starting with one of these [ and one or two lines down it has ] what do i enter in this space and is there something i can enter that would help solve my boot up issues
I clicked on something and now all my windows have a black boundary around them whenever I focus on it. This happens on menu bar items as well when in focus. How do I remove it?
I would like to manage subdomains exclusively through .htaccess.
I am able to catch subdomains that I set up - for example, support.testsite.com - currently, I redirect that to testsite.com/support.
What I would like to do is retain the subdomain, even after the redirect - so support.testsite.com seems to stay in the address bar for the user, even though it is actually located at testsite.com/support.
Should I maintain another .htaccess file in /support that rewrites the address?
Thanks!
i have to permament redirect some old urls in nginx. the old urls are old-style php urls including a parameter for loading content. they look like this:
http://www.foo.com/index.php?site=foo
http://www.foo.com/index.php?site=bar
i want to redirect them to other urls like:
http://www.foo.com/news
http://www.foo.com/gallery
any advice on how i can achieve this? my tries failed. thanks in advance!
Some of you might have noticed that Google has changed their search to use SSL by default. I noticed that even if you set your search engine on Chrome to unsecured Google, the results are delivered via HTTPS.
I was wondering if the suggestions typed on the address bar are also sent via SSL. If not, how can I make them so?
I can change the default search provider to Google SSL, but then I lose the suggestions.
I would like to rewrite requests to http://www.mysite.com/foo to http://foo.mysite.com without the user's address bar changing. Using IIRF I can do the rewrite, but only if I use the [R] modifier flag which makes the rewrite a redirect. Is there a way for me to transparently rewrite requests to a subdomain?
Here's the rewrite rule I've been testing with:
RewriteRule ^/foo/(.*)?$ http://foo.mysite.com/index.html?$1 [R,L]
I want to block access to some Samba shares from a certain machine, but somehow I can't get it to work: the machine can still access the shares, and I did restart and reload the samba daemon.
Here is a part of my configuration:
security = share
hosts allow = 127.0.0.1 192.168.1.0/24
interfaces = 127.0.0.1 eth1 192.168.1.2
bind interfaces only = yes
hosts deny = 192.168.1.251
encrypt passwords = yes
guest ok = yes
The shares themselves look like this:
[examples]
comment = Example
path = /foo/bar
read only = No
guest ok = yes
What am I doing wrong here?
I am build a bar chart in Excel with data values ranging from e.g. 10 to 20. I want the X axis limits to be automatic, but although the right limit (near 20) works correctly, the left limit always defaults to 0.
I'd like the left limit to be near 10, instead of zero, without having to have the limit fixed. Is there any way to do this?
When I want to download something in Safari, like http://foo.com/bar.zip, all I have to do is paste that link into the dowloads window. Is there a way to do this in Chrome?
I've gotten used to Safari, hitting cmd-alt-L (dowloads window), and then pasting. It's quick, neat, and saves me going to FileSave As...
I like to keep my hands on the keyboard, so if there is a quick way to do this without using a mouse, that's my ideal solution.

What are the new shortcuts for Windows 8?
There are lots of new UI elements in Windows 8 such as the 'Charms Bar' and the fact that the Desktop is treated as an app.
Some elements are easier than others to access on a non-touch screen enabled device such as a standard desktop PC or laptop equipped with a keyboard and mouse.
What are some useful shortcut keys that utilise the Windows Key (Win) to make using Windows 8 easier via a keyboard and mouse?
You can skin Chrome, but how can I change the default blue top bar color in Chrome application shortcuts? I mean the thing that turns a web app into a pseudo desktop app, reachable via Page menu - Create application shortcut. For some reason it ignores my theme settings... I just want to turn it from light blue to dark blue or something on Windows.
Thanks!
When using a browser like Firefox I need that any url of the domain example.com to have appended the port :8008. Not only when I type it at address bar but any where it is referenced within the served html page. All the other domains should be left as is.
I know I can setup a proxy like Squid or use a pac file in a web site but I want it simpler if possible.
Is there a program which lets you easily get the x,y coordinates for your cursor?
Basically, I move my cursor to somewhere on my screen, it shows me the x,y coordinates and has an option to copy them to the clipboard or export them somehow.
I can already do this if I take a screenshot and open it in MS Paint, then as I move the mouse cursor over the screenshot it shows the coordinates in the status bar, however I have to manually write them down, hence its not convenient.
