  • What are the best strategies for selling Android apps?

    - by Rob S.
I'm a young developer hoping to sell my apps I made for Android soon. My applications are basically 99% finished so I'm investigating what would be the best marketing strategy to use to sell my apps. I'm sure the brilliant minds here can give me some great advice. I'm particularly interested in your thoughts on the following points (especially from experienced Android developers): Is it more profitable to sell an app for free with ads or to sell an app without ads for a price? Perhaps a combination of a free ad version and a paid ad-free version? If you give away an app for free with ads on it is it ethical to decline bending over backwards to support it? How much does piracy actually affect potential sales? Should any effort be put towards preventing it? Can you still make a profit off your application if you make it open source? Could you perhaps make more of a profit from the attention you would get by doing so? Is Google's Android Marketplace really the best place to release Android apps? It is worthwhile enough to maintain a developer blog or website to keep users updated on your development progress and software releases? Any other suggestions you could give me to maximize profit meanwhile keeping users happy and coming back for more would also be greatly appreciated. While I appreciate general tips and tricks, I'd like to ask that if possible you please go the extra step and show how they specifically apply to selling Android apps. Marketing statistics, developer retrospect, and any additional experience you can share from your time selling Android apps is what I would love to see most. Thank you very much in advance for your time. I truly appreciate all the responses I receive.

  • Error when starting a tab activity in Android?

    - by ATDeveloper
I followed the directions verbatim in this Android tutorial, copying/pasting the code from the site to my app. http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html However, when I try to run in the Android emulator, I get the error: "The application Hello Tab Widget has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." I tried debugging by introducing a breakpoint in the first line of the onCreate method, but the error occurs before the breakpoint is even hit. Any idea of what is going wrong, or any other way I can debug this issue? I am using Eclipse.

I'm trying to build dschaefer android-box2d, and did follow the recipe. I do get this error when trying to build the TestBox2d with eclipse: make all /cygdrive/c/android/android-ndk-r3/build/prebuilt/windows/arm-eabi-4.2.1/bin/arm-eabi-ld \ -nostdlib -shared -Bsymbolic --no-undefined \ -o obj/libtest.so obj/test.o -L../box2d/lib/android -lbox2d \ -L/cygdrive/c/android/android-ndk-r3/build/platforms/android-3/arch-arm/usr/lib \ -llog -lc -lstdc++ -lm \ /cygdrive/c/android/android-ndk-r3/build/prebuilt/windows/arm-eabi-4.2.1/lib/gcc/arm-eabi/4.2.1/interwork/libgcc.a \ /cygdrive/c/android/android-ndk-r3/build/prebuilt/windows/arm-eabi-4.2.1/bin/arm-eabi-ld: cannot find -lbox2d make: * [obj/libtest.so] Error 1 The only thing I did change was in the TestBox2d\Makefile where i did change the path to the NDK. There are some other that have the same problem HERE but I do not know how to fix it.

  • android: customized text selector

    - by Yang
    I wanted to design a customized text selector that changed the text color when user clicks the TextView. But got the following error: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{}: android.view.InflateException: Binary XML file line #55: Error inflating class here is what I have: res/text_selector.xml <selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <item android:state_enabled="false" android:state_focused="true" android:drawable="@color/black" /> <item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@color/blue" /> <item android:state_focused="true" android:drawable="@color/black" /> </selector> layout/textview.xml <TextView android:id = "@+id/last_page_button" android:text="@string/last_page_button_string" android:gravity="center_horizontal" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="#ffffff" android:textColor = "@drawable/text_selector" android:layout_weight="1" /> values/color.xml <resources> <color name="white">#ffffffff</color> <color name="black">#ff000000</color> <color name="blue">#ffccddff</color>

  • Android Virtual Device freezing during its loading

    - by maarlin
Hello, I've downloaded Eclipse Classic 3.5 Galileo, the last version of Android SDK, downloaded and installed Eclipse Android 1.6 platform. I've created first (and the only) AVD with Android 1.6 and the default skin. The log may show more: I've filtered only neccessary messages (warnings, errors). -http://www.clipboard.cz/63c As you can see, my new AVD has started in 16:17 and it was still loading in 17:35... The emulator looks like this: http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/3540/androidloading.png PS: The restrictions about number of links for new accounts are REALLY annoying...

  • Using Gradle with an existing Android project

    - by Tom Reznik
I have an existing Android project with the following structure: - ProjectName -- AndroidManifest.xml -- local.properties -- project.properties -- assets -- libs (containing all jars) -- modules (containing all library projects my project depends on) -- res -- src ---- com/namespace/projectname (all my classes including main activity are here) I haven't been using any specific build system to build my project other than the one provided by default with the Android Studio IDE (though the project was originally created with IntelliJ CE. I would like to use Gradle with the android plugin and do some work on my build process. I have tried several configurations in order to achieve this and have failed to complete a successful build every time. What's the recommended approach in this scenario? should I change my project structure? or is it possible to configure gradle using the existing structure? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • PHP MVC error handling, view display and user permissions

    - by cen
I am building a moderation panel from scratch in a MVC approach and a lot of questions cropped up during development. I would like to hear from others how they handle these situations. Error handling Should you handle an error inside the class method or should the method return something anyway and you handle the error in controller? What about PDO exceptions, how to handle them? For example, let's say we have a method that returns true if the user exists in a table and false if he does not exist. What do you return in the catch statement? You can't just return false because then the controller assumes that everything is alright while the truth is that something must be seriously broken. Displaying the error from the method completely breaks the whole design. Maybe a page redirect inside the method? The proper way to show a view The controller right now looks something like this: include('view/header.php'); if ($_GET['m']=='something') include('view/something.php'); elseif ($_GET['m']=='somethingelse') include('view/somethingelse.php'); include('view/foter.php'); Each view also checks if it was included from the index page to prevent it being accessed directly. There is a view file for each different document body. Is this way of including different views ok or is there a more proper way? Managing user rights Each user has his own rights, what he can see and what he can do. Which part of the system should verify that user has the permission to see the view, controller or view itself? Right now I do permission checks directly in the view because each view can contain several forms that require different permissions and I would need to make a seperate file for each of them if it was put in the controller. I also have to re-check for the permissions everytime a form is submitted because form data can be easily forged. The truth is, all this permission checking and validating the inputs just turns the controller into a huge if/then/else cluster. I feel like 90% of the time I am doing error checks/permissions/validations and very little of the actual logic. Is this normal even for popular frameworks?

  • BizTalk 2009 - Creating a Custom Functoid Library

    - by StuartBrierley
If you find that you have a need to created multiple Custom Functoids you may also choose to create a Custom Functoid Library - a single project containing many custom functoids.  As previsouly discussed, the Custom Functoid Wizard can be used to create a project with a new custom functoid inside.  But what if you want to extend this project to include more custom functoids and create your Custom Functoid Library?  First create a Custom Functoid Library project and your first Custom Functoid using the Custom Functoid Wizard. When you open your Custom Functoid Library project in Visual Studio you will see that it contains your custom functoid class file along with its resource file.  One of the items this resource file contains is the ID of the the custom functoid.  Each custom functoid needs a unique ID that is over 6000.  When creating a Custom Functoid Library I would first suggest that you delete the ID from this resource file and instead create a _FunctoidIDs class containing constants for each of your custom functoids.  In this way you can easily see which custom functoid IDs are assigned to which custom functoid and which ID is next in the sequence of availability: namespace MyCompany.BizTalk.Functoids.TestFunctoids {     class _FunctoidIDs     {         public const int TestFunctoid                       = 6001;     } } You will then need to update the base() function in your existing functoid class to reference these constant values rather than the current resource file. From:    int functoidID;    // This has to be a number greater than 6000    functoidID = System.Convert.ToInt32(resmgr.GetString("FunctoidId"));    this.ID = functoidID; To: this.ID = _FunctoidIDs.TestFunctoid; To create a new custom functoid you can copy the existing custom functoid, renaming the resultant class file as appropriate.  Once it is renamed you will need to change the Class name, ResourceName reference and Base function name in the class code to those of your new custom functoid.  You will also need to create a new constant value in the _FunctoidIDs class and update the ID reference in your code to match this.  Assuming that you need some different functionalty from your new  customfunctoid you will need to check or amend the following in your functoid class file: Min and Max connections Functoid Category Input and Output connection types The parameters and functionality of the Execute function To change the appearance of you new custom functoid you will need to check or amend the following in the functoid resource file: Name Description Tooltip Exception Icon You can change the String values by double clicking the resource file and amending the value fields in the string table. To amend the functoid icon you will need to create a 16x16 bitmap image.  Once you have saved this you are then ready to import it into the functoid resource file.  In Visual Studio change the resource view to images, right click the icon and choose import from file. You have now completed your new custom functoid and created a Custom Functoid Library.  You can test your new library of functoids by building the project, copying the resultant DLL to C:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2009\Developer Tools\Mapper Extensions and then resetting the toolbox in Visual Studio.

  • Launch 7:Windows Phone 7 Style Live Tiles On Android Mobiles

    - by Gopinath
Android is a great mobile OS but one thought that lingers in the mind of few Android owners is: Am I using a cheap iPhone? This is valid thought for many low end Android users as their phones runs sluggish and the user interface of Android looks like an imitation of iOS. When it comes to Windows Phone 7 users, even though their operating system features are not as great as iPhone/Android but it has its unique user interface; Windows Phone 7 user interface is a very intuitive and fresh, it’s constantly updating Live Tiles show all the required information on the home screen. Android has best mobile operating system features except UI and Windows Phone 7 has excellent user interface. How about porting Windows Phone 7 Tiles interface on an Android? That should be great. Launch 7 app brings the best of Windows Phone 7 look and feel to Android OS. Once the Launcher 7 app is installed and activated, it brings Live Tiles or constantly updating controls that show information on Android home screen. Apart from simple and smooth tiles, there are handful of customization options provided. Users can change colour of the tiles, add new tiles, enable/disable transitions. The reviews on Android Market are on the positive side with 4.4 stars by 10,000 + reviewers. Here are few user reviews 1. Does what it says. only issue for me is that the app drawer doesn’t rotate. And I would like the UI to rotate when my KB is opened. HTC desire z – Jonathan 2. Works great on atrix.Kudos to developers. Awesome. Though needs: Better notification bar More stock images of tiles Better fitting of widgets on tiles – Manny 3. Looks really good like it much more than I thought I would runs real smooth running royal ginger 2.1 – Jay 4. Omg amazing i am definetly keeping it as my default best of android and windows – Devon 5. Man! An update every week! Very very responsive developer! – Andrew You can read more reviews on Android Market here.  There is no doubt that this application is receiving rave reviews. After scanning a while through the reviews, few complaints throw light on the negative side: Battery drains a bit faster & Low end mobile run a bit sluggish. The application is available in two versions – an ad supported free version and $1.41 ad free version. • How to set icon to title bar for each Activity in Tablelayout in android

    - by Venu Gopal
In my tablayout example, i have created 3 tabs, as usually i set 3 activities for each tab. I can set image to title bar of activity, which adds the intent to each tab. Due to this, the image in the title bar is visible in all 3 tabs. My requirement is to set a different image to title bar for each activity. I followed this to set image to title bar. But when i am going to do the same thing to each activity, getting android.util.AndroidRuntimeException: You cannot combine custom titles with other title features this error and application is terminated. manifest.xml <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.aptitsolution.tablayout" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0"> <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name" android:theme="@style/MyTheme"> <activity android:name=".TabLayoutDemo" android:label="@string/app_name" > <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:name="AlbumsActivity"></activity> <activity android:name="ArtistsActivity"></activity> <activity android:name="SongsActivity"></activity> TabLayoutDemo.java public class TabLayoutDemo extends TabActivity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE); setContentView(R.layout.main); getWindow().setFeatureInt(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE, R.layout.my_title); Resources res = getResources(); // Resource object to get Drawables TabHost tabHost = getTabHost(); // The activity TabHost TabHost.TabSpec spec; // Resusable TabSpec for each tab Intent intent; // Reusable Intent for each tab // Create an Intent to launch an Activity for the tab (to be reused) intent = new Intent().setClass(this, ArtistsActivity.class); // Initialize a TabSpec for each tab and add it to the TabHost spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("artists").setIndicator("Artists", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_artists)) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); .... .... • Switching to landscape mode in Android Emulator

    - by Cody
This is probably a pretty easy to answer question, but I can't find the solution myself after a couple hours of searching the documentation and Google. I set the orientation of my Android app to landscape in the AndroidManifest.xml file: android:screenOrientation="landscape" However, when I run the app in the simulator, it appears sideways and in portrait mode. How can I switch the emulator to landscape mode on a mac? It's running the 1.6 SDK. Thanks!

  • Cannot use standard android color attribute in custom color selector

    - by Manish Gupta
So, android defines the following in themes.xml: <style name="Theme"> ... <item name="colorPressedHighlight">@color/legacy_pressed_highlight</item> </style> and: <style name="Theme.Holo"> ... <item name="colorPressedHighlight">@color/holo_blue_light</item> </style> I want to use this colorPressedHighlight as the background color for my custom Button when it is pressed. So I defined the following in res/color/app_button_background.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" > <item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="?android:colorPressedHighlight"/> <item android:drawable="@android:color/transparent" /> </selector> Finally, I define my custom ImageButton style: <style name="App_ImageButtonStyle" parent="@android:style/Widget.ImageButton"> <item name="android:gravity">center</item> <item name="android:background">@color/app_button_background</item> </style> I crash on app launch with the following call stack: 06-27 20:24:41.954: E/AndroidRuntime(532): Caused by: org.xmlpull.v1.XmlPullParserException: Binary XML file line #6: <item> tag requires a 'drawable' attribute or child tag defining a drawable 06-27 20:24:41.954: E/AndroidRuntime(532): at android.graphics.drawable.StateListDrawable.inflate(StateListDrawable.java:178) 06-27 20:24:41.954: E/AndroidRuntime(532): at android.graphics.drawable.Drawable.createFromXmlInner(Drawable.java:867) 06-27 20:24:41.954: E/AndroidRuntime(532): at android.graphics.drawable.Drawable.createFromXml(Drawable.java:804) 06-27 20:24:41.954: E/AndroidRuntime(532): at android.content.res.Resources.loadDrawable(Resources.java:1920) I know that directly accessing @color/legacy_pressed_highlight or @color/holo_blue_light instead of accessing them through the colorPressedHighlight fixes the crash but it does not solve the problem. Themes can vary, hence I need to access it through the colorPressedHighlight attribute. PS: I had a similar problem to which I haven't found an answer yet. Can someone please help!

  • Reading Resource Files from my own APK in Android Native Environment

    - by Kyle
I'm porting to Android. My existing project has a ton of resource files that I'm porting into my Android project. I have them all in /res/raw/, and I would like to access those resources in my native library with functions such as fopen() and such. Can this be done, or do I have to go through JNI for this as well? I would really prefer not to, for ease of porting and possible speed and memory reasons.

  • Register filetype with the browser?

    - by Lord.Quackstar
In Android, I am trying to make it so that the user downloads a font from the browser, and I am able to view the font when downloaded. After multiple issues, I still have one lingering one: Registering the filetype with the browser. When trying to download with the Emulator (2.1-u1), I get "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone". Okay, so maybe its my manifest file. Updated with this: <activity android:name=".MainActivity" android:label="MainActivity"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"/> <catagory android:name="android.intent.category.BROWSABLE"/> <data android:scheme="http"/> <data android:scheme="https"/> <data android:scheme="ftp"/> <data android:host="*"/> <data android:mimeType="*/*"/> <data android:pathPattern=".*zip"/> </intent-filter> </activity> Went back to the browser, and fails again. Restart the Emulator, still fails. Note that I got this format from posts here. Any suggestions on what to do?

  • Android - Temporal & Ancestral Navigation with ViewPager & Fragments

    - by rascuache
I'm trying to work out the best way to implement the 'ancestral' and 'temporal' navigation (utilising the up button and back buttons), for a music player I'm working on. Currently, the user is presented with a viewpager, and can page between three main fragments (ArtistMain, AlbumMain and SongMain). Upon choosing an item inside that view, a fragment transaction occurs, and the viewpager goes out of view, replaced by a new fragment (AlbumSub, Songsub or player, depending on where the user came from). The user can then navigate deeper, until a song is chosen, and then they are taken to the 'player' screen. I guess the question is: How do I implement all of this conditional navigation? I'm fairly new to android and programming in general, and I just can't seem to come up with an efficient way to achieve this. At the moment, as each fragment is brought into view, the app is checking to see where the user just came from, and then determines where the user should be taken if back or home is called. This means I have a booleans like "fromArtistMain", "fromAlbumSub", and I'm checking for things like "fromSongSub && fromPlayer".. it's all turning into a bit of a mess. I've drawn a diagram (in paint, sorry!!), to depict the navigation I'm trying to achieve. The yellow represents the 'up' button press, the red is the 'back' button press, and blue is just normal navigation. The green arrows are meant to represent the view paging: Any advice is welcome. It might take something really simple that I've just overlooked. Thanks for your time.

  • GoogleTv video using VideoView is clipped, even though its in a separate layout of its own

    - by MYR
    Wrote an application for GoogleTV box to play a video. The video is a separate activity to the main activity. Wired up a button on my main layout/activity to to start the video activity up (using its own video.xml layout), the video activity loads and starts playing, but the video is clipped, only showing a few centimetres of the bottom. The clipped region looks like the views that occupied the previous layout (main.xml) . The intriguing thing is that if I push the back button, before returning to the main activity the full video frame is shown. Not sure what I am doing wrong here. Any suggestions welcome. Code: main.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/hello_message" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="200dp" android:gravity="center" android:text="@string/hello_message" android:textSize="78sp" /> <LinearLayout android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <EditText android:id="@+id/edit_message" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="1" android:ems="10" android:hint="@string/edit_message" > <requestFocus /> </EditText> <Button android:id="@+id/button_send" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:onClick="displayMessage" android:text="@string/button_send" /> <Button android:id="@+id/button_send_a" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:onClick="sendMesssage" android:text="@string/button_send_a" /> </LinearLayout> <Button android:id="@+id/videobutton" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:onClick="startAVideo" android:text="Video Player" /> </LinearLayout> GoogleTVExActivity.java (excerpt): ... public class GoogleTVExActivity extends Activity { public final static String EXTRA_MESSAGE = "uk.co.bbc.googletvex.MESSAGE"; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); } public void displayMessage(View view) { TextView t = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.hello_message); EditText e =(EditText) findViewById(R.id.edit_message); t.setText(e.getText().toString()); e.setText(""); } public void sendMesssage(View view) { Intent intent = new Intent(this, DisplayMessageActivity.class); EditText editText = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.edit_message); String message = editText.getText().toString(); intent.putExtra(EXTRA_MESSAGE, message); startActivity(intent); } public void startAVideo(View view) { Intent intent = new Intent(this, VideoViewActivity.class); startActivity(intent); } } video.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <VideoView android:id="@+id/myvideoview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> </LinearLayout> VideoViewActivity.java (excerpt) ... import android.app.Activity; import android.net.Uri; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.MediaController; import android.widget.VideoView; public class VideoViewActivity extends Activity { String SrcPath = "rtsp://v5.cache1.c.youtube.com/CjYLENy73wIaLQnhycnrJQ8qmRMYESARFEIJbXYtZ29vZ2xlSARSBXdhdGNoYPj_hYjnq6uUTQw=/0/0/0/video.3gp"; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.video); VideoView myVideoView = (VideoView)findViewById(R.id.myvideoview); myVideoView.setVideoURI(Uri.parse(SrcPath)); myVideoView.setMediaController(new MediaController(this)); myVideoView.requestFocus(); myVideoView.start(); } }

As you can see in the CourseDetailActvity, I populate smaple items in the listview to see if it the listview shows up. The fragment gets inflated properly, but when I try to add items to the listview, the application crashes! • Android - exception from an AsynchTask call

    - by GeekedOut
    I have an Activity that makes a remote server call and tries to populate a list. The call to the server works fine, and the call returns some JSON which is good. But then the system throws this exception: 04-06 18:43:19.626: D/AndroidRuntime(2564): Shutting down VM 04-06 18:43:19.626: W/dalvikvm(2564): threadid=1: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x409c01f8) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): java.lang.NullPointerException 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.createViewFromResource(ArrayAdapter.java:394) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.getView(ArrayAdapter.java:362) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.AbsListView.obtainView(AbsListView.java:2033) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.ListView.measureHeightOfChildren(ListView.java:1244) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.ListView.onMeasure(ListView.java:1155) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:4698) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureChildBeforeLayout(LinearLayout.java:1369) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureVertical(LinearLayout.java:660) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onMeasure(LinearLayout.java:553) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:4698) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onMeasure(FrameLayout.java:293) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureVertical(LinearLayout.java:812) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onMeasure(LinearLayout.java:553) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:4698) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onMeasure(FrameLayout.java:293) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.onMeasure(PhoneWindow.java:2092) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.performTraversals(ViewRootImpl.java:1064) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.handleMessage(ViewRootImpl.java:2442) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4424) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:784) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:551) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Why would this happen? • Android ListView: how to select an item?

    - by mmo
I am having trouble with a ListView I created: I want an item to get selected when I click on it. My code for this looks like: protected void onResume() { ... ListView lv = getListView(); lv.setOnItemSelectedListener(new OnItemSelectedListener() { public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> adapterView, View view, int pos, long id) { Log.v(TAG, "onItemSelected(..., " + pos + ",...) => selected: " + getSelectedItemPosition()); } public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> adapterView) { Log.v(TAG, "onNothingSelected(...) => selected: " + getSelectedItemPosition()); } }); lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> adapterView, View view, int pos, long id) { lv.setSelection(pos); Log.v(TAG, "onItemClick(..., " + pos + ",...) => selected: " + getSelectedItemPosition()); } }); ... } When I run this and click e.g. on the second item (i.e. pos=1) I get: 04-03 23:08:36.994: V/DisplayLists(663): onItemClick(..., 1,...) => selected: -1 i.e. even though the OnItemClickListener is called with the proper argument and calls a setSelection(1), there is no item selected (and hence also OnItemSelectedListener.onItemSelected(...) is never called) and getSelectedItemPosition() still yields -1 after the setSelection(1)-call. What am I missing? Michael PS.: My list does have =2 elements...

  • How to get ImageButton size within Android GridView?

    - by wufoo
I'm subclassing ImageButton in order to draw lines on it and trying to figure out where the actual button coordinates are within my gridview. I am using onGlobalLayout to setup Top, Bottom, Right and Left, but these seem to be for the actual "square" within the grid, and not the actual button (see image). The purple lines are drawn in myImageButton.onDraw() using coords gathered from myImageButton.onGlobalLayout(). I thought these would be for the button, but they seem to be from something else. Not sure what. I'd like the purple lines to match the outline of the button so the lines I draw appear on the button and not just floating out in the LinearLayout somewhere. The light blue is the background color of the vertical LinearLayout holding the Textview (for the number) and myImageButton. Any way to get the actual button size? XML Layout: <FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/lay_cellframe" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:gravity="fill_vertical|fill_horizontal" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/tv_cell" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_margin="2dp" android:gravity="center" android:text="TextView" android:textSize="10sp" /> <com.example.icaltest2.myImageButton android:id="@+id/imageButton1" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_gravity="center" android:layout_margin="0dp" android:adjustViewBounds="false" android:background="@android:drawable/btn_default" android:scaleType="fitXY" android:src="@android:color/transparent" /> </LinearLayout> </FrameLayout> myImageButton.java public myImageButton (Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super (context, attrs); mBounds = new Rect(); ViewTreeObserver vto = this.getViewTreeObserver (); vto.addOnGlobalLayoutListener (ogl); Log.d (TAG, "myImageButton"); } ...
