  • Data structure for pattern matching.

    - by alvonellos
Let's say you have an input file with many entries like these: date, ticker, open, high, low, close, <and some other values> And you want to execute a pattern matching routine on the entries(rows) in that file, using a candlestick pattern, for example. (See, Doji) And that pattern can appear on any uniform time interval (let t = 1s, 5s, 10s, 1d, 7d, 2w, 2y, and so on...). Say a pattern matching routine can take an arbitrary number of rows to perform an analysis and contain an arbitrary number of subpatterns. In other words, some patterns may require 4 entries to operate on. Say also that the routine (may) later have to find and classify extrema (local and global maxima and minima as well as inflection points) for the ticker over a closed interval, for example, you could say that a cubic function (x^3) has the extrema on the interval [-1, 1]. (See link) What would be the most natural choice in terms of a data structure? What about an interface that conforms a Ticker object containing one row of data to a collection of Ticker so that an arbitrary pattern can be applied to the data. What's the first thing that comes to mind? I chose a doubly-linked circular linked list that has the following methods: push_front() push_back() pop_front() pop_back() [] //overloaded, can be used with negative parameters But that data structure seems very clumsy, since so much pushing and popping is going on, I have to make a deep copy of the data structure before running an analysis on it. So, I don't know if I made my question very clear -- but the main points are: What kind of data structures should be considered when analyzing sequential data points to conform to a pattern that does NOT require random access? What kind of data structures should be considered when classifying extrema of a set of data points?

  • Billboarding restricted to an axis (cylindrical)

    - by user8709
    I have succesfully created a GLSL shader for a billboarding effect. I want to tweak this to restrict the billboarding to an arbitrary axis, i.e. a billboarded quad only rotates itself about the y-axis. I use the y-axis as an example, but essentially I would like this to be an arbitrary axis. Can anyone show me how to modify my existing shader below, or if I need to start from scratch, point me towards some resources that could be helpful? precision mediump float; uniform mat4 u_modelViewProjectionMat; uniform mat4 u_modelMat; uniform mat4 u_viewTransposeMat; uniform vec3 u_axis; // <------------ !!! the arbitrary axis to restrict rotation around attribute vec3 a_position0; attribute vec2 a_texCoord0; varying vec2 v_texCoord0; void main() { vec3 pos = (a_position0.x * u_viewTransposeMat[0] + a_position0.y * u_viewTransposeMat[1]).xyz; vec4 position = vec4(pos, 1.0); v_texCoord0 = a_texCoord0; gl_Position = u_modelViewProjectionMat * position; }

  • NTP daemon or ntpdate doesn't synchronize

    - by user2862333
    I'm having some problems with synchronization with an NTP server. 1) The NTP daemon doesn't sync the system clock at all, even though it's running (confirmed with /etc/init.d/ntp status). Forcing to sync with ntpd -q or ntpd -gq does not work either. 2) Stopping the NTP daemon and syncing manually with ntpdate does give me the following output: ~# ntpdate -d 0.debian.pool.ntp.org 6 Nov 16:48:53 ntpdate[4417]: ntpdate [email protected] Sat May 12 09:07:19 UTC 2012 (1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) server 79.132.237.5, port 123 stratum 2, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [79.132.237.5], delay 0.05141, dispersion 0.00145 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e3b1.f490b90d Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:50:09.955 originate timestamp: d624e457.eaaf787c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:55.916 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.4a7036fd Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.290 filter delay: 0.08537 0.05141 0.05151 0.06346 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6038 235.6087 235.6095 235.6068 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05141, dispersion 0.00145 offset 235.608782 server 85.234.197.2, port 123 stratum 2, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [85.234.197.2], delay 0.05151, dispersion 0.00336 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e3e7.dc6cd02b Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:51:03.861 originate timestamp: d624e458.1c91031f Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.111 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.7da1d882 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.490 filter delay: 0.05765 0.07750 0.06013 0.05151 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6048 235.6014 235.6035 235.6078 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05151, dispersion 0.00336 offset 235.607826 server 194.50.97.34, port 123 stratum 3, precision -23, leap 00, trust 000 refid [194.50.97.34], delay 0.03021, dispersion 0.00090 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e38d.2bce952c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:33.171 originate timestamp: d624e458.4dbbc114 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.303 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.b0d38834 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.690 filter delay: 0.03030 0.03636 0.03091 0.03021 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6095 235.6085 235.6098 235.6105 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.03021, dispersion 0.00090 offset 235.610589 server 79.132.237.1, port 123 stratum 3, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [79.132.237.1], delay 0.05113, dispersion 0.00305 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624dfcb.6acea332 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:33:31.417 originate timestamp: d624e458.838672ad Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.513 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.e405181c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.890 filter delay: 0.06345 0.05113 0.05681 0.05656 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6087 235.6038 235.6010 235.6074 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05113, dispersion 0.00305 offset 235.603888 6 Nov 16:49:00 ntpdate[4417]: step time server 79.132.237.5 offset 235.608782 sec Clearly, ntpdate can reach the NTP server(s), but after checking the clock, it hasn't changed and is still displaying the wrong time. • double_t in C99

    - by yCalleecharan
Hi, I just read that C99 has double_t which should be at least wide as double. Does this imply that it gives more precision digits after the decimal place? More than the usual 15 digits for double?. Secondly, how to use it: Is only including #include enough? I read that one has to set the FLT_EVAL_METHOD to 2 for long double. How to do this? As I work with numerical methods, I would like maximum precision without using an arbitrary precision library. Thanks a lot...

  • accing a fortran 'module' in a 'function defined in some other file

    - by cppb
hello, I am using fortran 90 I have defined a fortran module in fileA.f as: module getArr double precision a(100) end module getArr The same fileA.f contains a subroutine that uses this module subroutine my_sub use getArr implicit none getArr%a(1) = 10.5 end subroutine In fileB.f, I have a fortrtan function. I am trying to access the value of getArr%a(1) as: double precision function my_func(R) use getArr double precision x x = getArr%a(1) return end But I am getting errors at the compile time. It says it is unable to access the module getArr. How should I declare it?? Thanks

  • Warning vs. error

    - by Samuel
I had an annoying issue, getting a "Possible loss of precision" error when compiling my Java program on BlueJ (But from what i read this isn't connected to a specific IDE). I was surprised by the fact that the compiler told me there is a possible loss of precision and wouldnt let me compile/run the program. Why is this an error and not a warning saying you might loose precision here, if you don't want that change your code? The program runs just fine when i drop the float values, it wouldn't matter since there is no point (e.g [143.08, 475.015]) on my screen. On the other hand when i loop through an ArrayList and in this loop i have an if clause removing elements from the ArrayList it runs fine, just throws an error and doesn't display the ArrayList [used for drawing circles] for a fraction of a second. This appears to me as a severe error but doesn't cause (hardly) any troubles, while i wouldn't want to have such a thing in my code at all. What's the boundary?

  • jQuery: How do I insert an html string an arbitrary number of times (i.e. not with an each() function)?

    - by Sam Bivins
I just need to take a certain html query object and append it to an html element a lot of times. I have this: var box = $("<div class='box'>&nbsp</div>"); $("#firstbox").after(box); and it works fine, but it just adds one 'box' after the #firstbox element. I'd like to do something like this: var box = $("<div class='box'>&nbsp</div>"); $("#firstbox").after(box * 6000); so that it will insert 6000 copies of that 'box' html, but this is not working. This is I'm sure the easiest thing to do, but I can't seem to find how to multiply actions like this without using the each() function, which doesn't apply here because I don't have 6000 of anything on my page. Thanks.

  • Code-Golf: one line PHP syntax

    - by Kendall Hopkins
Explanation PHP has some holes in its' syntax and occasionally in development a programmer will step in them. This can lead to much frustration as these syntax holes seem to exist for no reason. For example, one can't easily create an array and access an arbitrary element of that array on the same line (func1()[100] is not valid PHP syntax). The workaround for this issue is to use a temporary variable and break the statement into two lines, but sometimes that can lead to very verbose, clunky code. Challenge I know of a few of these holes (I'm sure there are more). It is quite hard to even come up with a solution, let alone in a code-golf style. Winner is the person with in the least characters total for all four Syntax Holes. Rules Statement must be one line in this form: $output = ...;, where ... doesn't contain any ;'s. Only use standard library functions (no custom functions allowed) Statement works identically to the assumed functional of the non-working syntax (even in cases that it fails). Statement must run without syntax error of any kind with E_STRICT | E_ALL. Syntax Holes $output = func_return_array()[$key]; - accessing an arbitrary offset (string or integer) of the returned array of a function $output = new {$class_base.$class_suffix}(); - arbitrary string concatenation being used to create a new class $output = {$func_base.$func_suffix}(); - arbitrary string concatenation being called as function $output = func_return_closure()(); - call a closure being returned from another function

  • Efficient Multiplication of Varying-Length #s [Conceptual]

    - by Milan Patel
Write the pseudocode of an algorithm that takes in two arbitrary length numbers (provided as strings), and computes the product of these numbers. Use an efficient procedure for multiplication of large numbers of arbitrary length. Analyze the efficiency of your algorithm. I decided to take the (semi) easy way out and use the Russian Peasant Algorithm. It works like this: a * b = a/2 * 2b if a is even a * b = (a-1)/2 * 2b + a if a is odd My pseudocode is: rpa(x, y){ if x is 1 return y if x is even return rpa(x/2, 2y) if x is odd return rpa((x-1)/2, 2y) + y } I have 3 questions: Is this efficient for arbitrary length numbers? I implemented it in C and tried varying length numbers. The run-time in was near-instant in all cases so it's hard to tell empirically... Can I apply the Master's Theorem to understand the complexity...? a = # subproblems in recursion = 1 (max 1 recursive call across all states) n / b = size of each subproblem = n / 1 - b = 1 (problem doesn't change size...?) f(n^d) = work done outside recursive calls = 1 - d = 0 (the addition when a is odd) a = 1, b^d = 1, a = b^d - complexity is in n^d*log(n) = log(n) this makes sense logically since we are halving the problem at each step, right? What might my professor mean by providing arbitrary length numbers "as strings". Why do that? Many thanks in advance

  • SQL SERVER – Difference Between GETDATE and SYSDATETIME

    - by pinaldave
Sometime something so simple skips our mind. I never knew the difference between GETDATE and SYSDATETIME. I just ran simple query as following and realized the difference. SELECT GETDATE() fn_GetDate, SYSDATETIME() fn_SysDateTime In case of GETDATE the precision is till miliseconds and in case of SYSDATETIME the precision is till nanoseconds. Now the questions is to you – did you know this? Be honest and please share your views. I already accepted that I did not know this in very first line. • CPU Architecture and floating-point math

    - by Jo-Herman Haugholt
I'm trying to wrap my head around some details about how floating point math is performed on the CPU, trying to better understand what data types to use etc. I think I have a fairly good understanding of how integer math is performed. If I've understood correctly, and disregarding SIMD, a 32-bit CPU will generally perform integer math at at least 32-bit precision etc. Is it correct that floating-point math is dependent on the presence of a FPU? And that the FPU on the x86 is 80-bit, so floating point math is performed at this precision unless using SIMD? What about ARM?

  • How can I make a 32 bit render target with a 16 bit alpha channel in DirectX?

    - by J Junker
I want to create a render target that is 32-bit, with 16 bits each for alpha and luminance. The closest surface formats I can find in the DirectX SDK are: D3DFMT_A8L8 // 16-bit using 8 bits each for alpha and luminance. D3DFMT_G16R16F // 32-bit float format using 16 bits for the red channel and 16 bits for the green channel. But I don't think either of these will work, since D3DFMT_A8L8 doesn't have the precision and D3DFMT_G16R16F doesn't have an alpha channel (I need a separate blend state for alpha). How can I create a render target that allows a separate blend state for luminance and alpha, with 16 bit precision on each channel, that doesn't exceed 32 bits per pixel?

I set in OpenGL blend in this way: glBlendFunc( GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA ); My fragment shader for particle is very simple: precision highp float; precision highp int; uniform sampler2D u_maps[2]; varying vec2 v_texture; uniform float opaque; uniform vec3 colorize; void main() { vec4 texColor = texture2D(u_maps[0], v_texture); gl_FragColor.rgb = texColor.rgb * colorize.rgb; gl_FragColor.a = texColor.a * opaque; } I attach screenshot from this: Do you know what I made wrong ? I use OpenGL ES 2.0.

  • Is it relevant to warn about truncating real constants to 32 bits?

    - by zneak
I'm toying around with LLVM and looking at what it would take to make yet another strongly-typed language, and now that I'm around the syntax, I've noticed that it seems to be a pet peeve of strongly typed language to warn people that their constants won't fit inside a float: // both in Java and C# float foo = 3.2; // error: implicitly truncating a double into a float // or something along these lines Why doesn't this work in Java and C#? I know it's easy to add the f after the 3.2, but is it really doing anything useful? Must I really be that aware that I'm using single-precision reals instead of double-precision reals? Maybe I'm just missing something (which, basically, is why I'm asking). Note that float foo = [const] is not the same thing as float foo = [double variable], where requiring the cast seems normal to me.

  • Phone complains that identical GLSL struct definition differs in vert/frag programs

    - by stephelton
When I provide the following struct definition in linked frag and vert shaders, my phone (Samsung Vibrant / Android 2.2) complains that the definition differs. struct Light { mediump vec3 _position; lowp vec4 _ambient; lowp vec4 _diffuse; lowp vec4 _specular; bool _isDirectional; mediump vec3 _attenuation; // constant, linear, and quadratic components }; uniform Light u_light; I know the struct is identical because its included from another file. These shaders work on a linux implementation and on my Android 3.0 tablet. Both shaders declare "precision mediump float;" The exact error is: Uniform variable u_light type/precision does not match in vertex and fragment shader Am I doing anything wrong here, or is my phone's implementation broken? Any advice (other than file a bug report?)

  • VPN iptables Forwarding: Net-to-net

    - by Mike Holler
I've tried to look elsewhere on this site but I couldn't find anything matching this problem. Right now I have an ipsec tunnel open between our local network and a remote network. Currently, the local box running Openswan ipsec with the tunnel open can ping the remote ipsec box and any of the other computers in the remote network. When logged into on of the remote computers, I can ping any box in our local network. That's what works, this is what doesn't: I can't ping any of the remote computers via a local machine that is not the ipsec box. Here's a diagram of our network: [local ipsec box] ----------\ \ [arbitrary local computer] --[local gateway/router] -- [internet] -- [remote ipsec box] -- [arbitrary remote computer] The local ipsec box and the arbitrary local computer have no direct contact, instead they communicate through the gateway/router. The router has been set up to forward requests from local computers for the remote subnet to the ipsec box. This works. The problem is the ipsec box doesn't forward anything. Whenever an arbitrary local computer pings something on the remote subnet, this is the response: [user@localhost ~]# ping 172.16.53.12 PING 172.16.53.12 (172.16.53.12) 56(84) bytes of data. - by Andrew Cooper
I've got a Dell Inspiron 1545 on which the screen has died. I'm able to plug an external monitor into the Inspiron 1545 and it works fine, so the screen is the only issue. The OS is Win7. I'm trying to move the disk to a spare Dell Precision M90 laptop that I've got lying around. The problem is that almost as soon as the Windows logo appears in the boot sequence I get a BSOD with a STOP 0x0000007B message. Researching this message pointed to issues with SATA AHCI mode. I looked in the BIOS of the Inspiron 1545 and the controller was set to AHCI mode. I set it to ATA mode and tried to boot with the same drive and got the same result as on the Precision M90. Switching back to AHCI allowed the machine to boot correctly again. I checked the BIOS on the Precision M90 and it doesn't seem to support AHCI mode, although it is a SATA controller onboard. The BIOS is the latest A08 version available from Dell. Is there any way I can get this drive to boot in the M90 without reformatting it?

  • Where's my Open-With gVim context menu option in Windows 7?

    - by David Mackintosh
I have gVim installed. Under Vista and XP, this offered me an addition to either the object context menu of "Edit with gVim", or an addtion to the "Open With" context menu of "gVim". This would let me send arbitrary files to gVim for editing. Under Windows 7 64-bit, I have installed gVim -- twice, as it happens -- and there's no menu item. How do I add an option to send arbitrary files to gVim for viewing/editing?

  • Polygon packing 2D

    - by Ilnur
Hi! I have problem of packing 2 arbitrary polygons. I.e. we have 2 arbitrary polygons. We are to find such placement of this polygons (we could make rotations and movements), when rectangle, which circumscribes this polygons has minimal area. I know, that this is a NP-complete problem. I want to choose an efficient algorithm for solving this problem. I' looking for No-Fit-Polygon approach. But I could't find anywhere the simple and clear algorithm for finding the NFP of two arbitrary polygons.

  • How do I launch a subprocess in C# with an argv? (Or convert agrv to a legal arg string)

    - by lucas
I have a C# command-line application that I need to run in windows and under mono in unix. At some point I want to launch a subprocess given a set of arbitrary paramaters passed in via the command line. For instance: Usage: mycommandline [-args] -- [arbitrary program] Unfortunately, System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo only takes a string for args. This is a problem for commands such as: ./my_commandline myarg1 myarg2 -- grep "a b c" foo.txt In this case argv looks like : argv = {"my_commandline", "myarg1", "myarg2", "--", "grep", "a b c", "foo.txt"} Note that the quotes around "a b c" are stripped by the shell so if I simply concatenate the arguments in order to create the arg string for ProcessStartInfo I get: args = "my_commandline myarg1 myarg2 -- grep a b c foo.txt" Which is not what I want. Is there a simple way to either pass an argv to subprocess launch under C# OR to convert an arbitrary argv into a string which is legal for windows and linux shell? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to truncate milliseconds off of a .NET DateTime

    - by Jeff Putz
I'm trying to compare a time stamp from an incoming request to a database stored value. SQL Server of course keeps some precision of milliseconds on the time, and when read into a .NET DateTime, it includes those milliseconds. The incoming request to the system, however, does not offer that precision, so I need to simply drop the milliseconds. I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I haven't found an elegant way to do it (C#).

  • Fastest sorting algorithm for a specific situation

    - by luvieere
What is the fastest sorting algorithm for a large number (tens of thousands) of groups of 9 positive double precision values, where each group must be sorted individually? So it's got to sort fast a small number of possibly repeated double precision values, many times in a row. The values are in the [0..1] interval. I don't care about space complexity or stability, just about speed.
