  • Calling Oracle Function with "complex" return value from C#

    - by devdimi
I have an Oracle function returning record defined in the package, so one can do: select a,b,c FROM my_function(...); Calling this oracle function from .NET is as simple as executing normal sql query. Unfortunately the function has to do updates now and when it is called like this Oracle complains that updates are not allowed within selects and that makes sense. So now I am left with the choice to change the function call or to split the function. Basically I have to get rid of the select in the function call and need something like this in C#: EXEC :var:= my_func(...); where the type of var is custom tuple defined in the package. I have already tried using ParameterDirection.ReturnValue without success. Does anyone have an idea?

  • What's wrong with this MySQL Stored Function?

    - by Matt
Having trouble getting this to apply in MySQL Workbench 5.2.15 DELIMITER // CREATE DEFINER=`potts`@`%` FUNCTION `potts`.`fn_create_category_test` (test_arg VARCHAR(50)) RETURNS int BEGIN DECLARE new_id int; SET new_id = 8; RETURN new_id; END// The actual function will have a lot more between BEGIN and END but as it stands, even this 3 liner won't work. Thanks!

  • Establishing Upper / Lower Bound in T-SQL Procedure

    - by Code Sherpa
    Hi. I am trying to establish upper / lower bound in my stored procedure below and am having some problems at the end (I am getting no results where, without the temp table inner join i get the expected results). I need some help where I am trying to join the columns in my temp table #PageIndexForUsers to the rest of my join statement and I am mucking something up with this statement: INNER JOIN #PageIndexForUsers ON ( dbo.aspnet_Users.UserId = #PageIndexForUsers.UserId AND #PageIndexForUsers.IndexId >= @PageLowerBound AND #PageIndexForUsers.IndexId <= @PageUpperBound ) I could use feedback at this point - and, any advice on how to improve my procedure's logic (if you see anything else that needs improvement) is also appreciated. Thanks in advance... ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.wb_Membership_GetAllUsers @ApplicationName nvarchar(256), @sortOrderId smallint = 0, @PageIndex int, @PageSize int AS BEGIN DECLARE @ApplicationId uniqueidentifier SELECT @ApplicationId = NULL SELECT @ApplicationId = ApplicationId FROM dbo.aspnet_Applications WHERE LOWER(@ApplicationName) = LoweredApplicationName IF (@ApplicationId IS NULL) RETURN 0 -- Set the page bounds DECLARE @PageLowerBound int DECLARE @PageUpperBound int DECLARE @TotalRecords int SET @PageLowerBound = @PageSize * @PageIndex SET @PageUpperBound = @PageSize - 1 + @PageLowerBound BEGIN TRY -- Create a temp table TO store the select results CREATE TABLE #PageIndexForUsers ( IndexId int IDENTITY (0, 1) NOT NULL, UserId uniqueidentifier ) -- Insert into our temp table INSERT INTO #PageIndexForUsers (UserId) SELECT u.UserId FROM dbo.aspnet_Membership m, dbo.aspnet_Users u WHERE u.ApplicationId = @ApplicationId AND u.UserId = m.UserId ORDER BY u.UserName SELECT @TotalRecords = @@ROWCOUNT SELECT dbo.wb_Profiles.profileid, dbo.wb_ProfileData.firstname, dbo.wb_ProfileData.lastname, dbo.wb_Email.emailaddress, dbo.wb_Email.isconfirmed, dbo.wb_Email.emaildomain, dbo.wb_Address.streetname, dbo.wb_Address.cityorprovince, dbo.wb_Address.state, dbo.wb_Address.postalorzip, dbo.wb_Address.country, dbo.wb_ProfileAddress.addresstype,dbo.wb_ProfileData.birthday, dbo.wb_ProfileData.gender, dbo.wb_Session.sessionid, dbo.wb_Session.lastactivitydate, dbo.aspnet_Membership.userid, dbo.aspnet_Membership.password, dbo.aspnet_Membership.passwordquestion, dbo.aspnet_Membership.passwordanswer, dbo.aspnet_Membership.createdate FROM dbo.wb_Profiles INNER JOIN dbo.wb_ProfileAddress ON ( dbo.wb_Profiles.profileid = dbo.wb_ProfileAddress.profileid AND dbo.wb_ProfileAddress.addresstype = 'home' ) INNER JOIN dbo.wb_Address ON dbo.wb_ProfileAddress.addressid = dbo.wb_Address.addressid INNER JOIN dbo.wb_ProfileData ON dbo.wb_Profiles.profileid = dbo.wb_ProfileData.profileid INNER JOIN dbo.wb_Email ON ( dbo.wb_Profiles.profileid = dbo.wb_Email.profileid AND dbo.wb_Email.isprimary = 1 ) INNER JOIN dbo.wb_Session ON dbo.wb_Profiles.profileid = dbo.wb_Session.profileid INNER JOIN dbo.aspnet_Membership ON dbo.wb_Profiles.userid = dbo.aspnet_Membership.userid INNER JOIN dbo.aspnet_Users ON dbo.aspnet_Membership.UserId = dbo.aspnet_Users.UserId INNER JOIN dbo.aspnet_Applications ON dbo.aspnet_Users.ApplicationId = dbo.aspnet_Applications.ApplicationId INNER JOIN #PageIndexForUsers ON ( dbo.aspnet_Users.UserId = #PageIndexForUsers.UserId AND #PageIndexForUsers.IndexId >= @PageLowerBound AND #PageIndexForUsers.IndexId <= @PageUpperBound ) ORDER BY CASE @sortOrderId WHEN 1 THEN dbo.wb_ProfileData.lastname WHEN 2 THEN dbo.wb_Profiles.username WHEN 3 THEN dbo.wb_Address.postalorzip WHEN 4 THEN dbo.wb_Address.state END END TRY BEGIN CATCH IF @@TRANCOUNT > 0 ROLLBACK TRAN EXEC wb_ErrorHandler RETURN 55555 END CATCH RETURN @TotalRecords END GO

  • Possible to open a text file in a MYSQL stored procedure?

    - by futureelite7
Is it possible to open and read from a text file in a MYSQL stored procedure? I have a text file with a list of about 50k telephone numbers, and want to write a stored procedure that will open the file, read the 50k lines and store it as rows in a table. I cannot load the file directly using LOAD IN FILE as the table has additional columns that I have to set. Thanks!

  • Advice on optimzing speed for a Stored Procedure that uses Views

    - by Belliez
Based on a previous question and with a lot of help from Damir Sudarevic (thanks) I have the following sql code which works great but is very slow. Can anyone suggest how I can speed this up and optimise for speed. I am now using SQL Server Express 2008 (not 2005 as per my original question). What this code does is retrieves parameters and their associated values from several tables and rotates the table in a form that can be easily compared. Its great for one of two rows of data but now I am testing with 100 rows and to run GetJobParameters takes over 7 minutes to complete? Any advice is gratefully accepted, thank you in advanced. /*********************************************************************************************** ** CREATE A VIEW (VIRTUAL TABLE) TO ALLOW EASIER RETREIVAL OF PARMETERS ************************************************************************************************/ CREATE VIEW dbo.vParameters AS SELECT m.MachineID AS [Machine ID] ,j.JobID AS [Job ID] ,p.ParamID AS [Param ID] ,t.ParamTypeID AS [Param Type ID] ,m.Name AS [Machine Name] ,j.Name AS [Job Name] ,t.Name AS [Param Type Name] ,t.JobDataType AS [Job DataType] ,x.Value AS [Measurement Value] ,x.Unit AS [Unit] ,y.Value AS [JobDataType] FROM dbo.Machines AS m JOIN dbo.JobFiles AS j ON j.MachineID = m.MachineID JOIN dbo.JobParams AS p ON p.JobFileID = j.JobID JOIN dbo.JobParamType AS t ON t.ParamTypeID = p.ParamTypeID LEFT JOIN dbo.JobMeasurement AS x ON x.ParamID = p.ParamID LEFT JOIN dbo.JobTrait AS y ON y.ParamID = p.ParamID GO -- Step 2 CREATE VIEW dbo.vJobValues AS SELECT [Job Name] ,[Param Type Name] ,COALESCE(cast([Measurement Value] AS varchar(50)), [JobDataType]) AS [Val] FROM dbo.vParameters GO /*********************************************************************************************** ** GET JOB PARMETERS FROM THE VIEW JUST CREATED ************************************************************************************************/ CREATE PROCEDURE GetJobParameters AS -- Step 3 DECLARE @Params TABLE ( id int IDENTITY (1,1) ,ParamName varchar(50) ); INSERT INTO @Params (ParamName) SELECT DISTINCT [Name] FROM dbo.JobParamType -- Step 4 DECLARE @qw TABLE( id int IDENTITY (1,1) , txt nchar(300) ) INSERT INTO @qw (txt) SELECT 'SELECT' UNION SELECT '[Job Name]' ; INSERT INTO @qw (txt) SELECT ',MAX(CASE [Param Type Name] WHEN ''' + ParamName + ''' THEN Val ELSE NULL END) AS [' + ParamName + ']' FROM @Params ORDER BY id; INSERT INTO @qw (txt) SELECT 'FROM dbo.vJobValues' UNION SELECT 'GROUP BY [Job Name]' UNION SELECT 'ORDER BY [Job Name]'; -- Step 5 --SELECT txt FROM @qw DECLARE @sql_output VARCHAR (MAX) SET @sql_output = '' -- NULL + '' = NULL, so we need to have a seed SELECT @sql_output = -- string to avoid losing the first line. • PLPGSQL : Return a record from function executed by INSERT/UPDATE rule

    - by seas
Do the following scheme for my database: create sequence data_sequence; create table data_table { id integer primary key; field varchar(100); }; create view data_view as select id, field from data_table; create function data_insert(_new data_view) returns data_view as $$declare _id integer; _result data_view%rowtype; begin _id := nextval('data_sequence'); insert into data_table(id, field) values(_id, _new.field); select * into _result from data_view where id = _id; return _result; end; $$ language plpgsql; create rule insert as on insert to data_view do instead select data_insert(new); Then type in psql: insert into data_view(field) values('abc'); Would like to see something like: id | field ----+--------- 1 | abc Instead see: data_insert ------------- (1, "abc") Is it possible to fix this somehow? Thanks for any ideas.

But when I try to add the Stored Procedure to the EDM, i get the following error: The function 'GetPrices' has a parameter 'StoreIDs' at parameter index 2 that has a data type 'table type' which is not supported. The function was excluded. Is there any workaround this? Any thoughts? Fabio

  • Generating a text file in MYSQL stored procedure

    - by Pablo
Hi, I'm new to MySQL, I am trying to create a text file using a stored procedure. I'm currently at the stage where I have a temporary table that contains all of the records that I want to output to a text file. I have the following line at the end of my SP, it works in PHPMYAdmin's query but it does not work when part of a stored procedure the code is as follows: SELECT * into outfile '../../htdocs/VIP/Temp/temp.txt' from tmp_Menu2; note that tmp_Menu2 is a table that only includes one field of type VARCHAR(1000) Any help would be greathly appreciated. Thank you,

  • T-SQL Dynamic SQL and Temp Tables

    - by George
It looks like #temptables created using dynamic SQL via the EXECUTE string method have a different scope and can't be referenced by "fixed" SQLs in the same stored procedure. However, I can reference a temp table created by a dynamic SQL statement in a subsequence dynamic SQL but it seems that a stored procedure does not return a query result to a calling client unless the SQL is fixed. A simple 2 table scenario: I have 2 tables. Let's call them Orders and Items. Order has a Primary key of OrderId and Items has a Primary Key of ItemId. Items.OrderId is the foreign key to identify the parent Order. An Order can have 1 to n Items. I want to be able to provide a very flexible "query builder" type interface to the user to allow the user to select what Items he want to see. The filter criteria can be based on fields from the Items table and/or from the parent Order table. If an Item meets the filter condition including and condition on the parent Order if one exists, the Item should be return in the query as well as the parent Order. Usually, I suppose, most people would construct a join between the Item table and the parent Order tables. I would like to perform 2 separate queries instead. One to return all of the qualifying Items and the other to return all of the distinct parent Orders. The reason is two fold and you may or may not agree. The first reason is that I need to query all of the columns in the parent Order table and if I did a single query to join the Orders table to the Items table, I would be repoeating the Order information multiple times. Since there are typically a large number of items per Order, I'd like to avoid this because it would result in much more data being transfered to a fat client. Instead, as mentioned, I would like to return the two tables individually in a dataset and use the two tables within to populate a custom Order and child Items client objects. (I don't know enough about LINQ or Entity Framework yet. I build my objects by hand). The second reason I would like to return two tables instead of one is because I already have another procedure that returns all of the Items for a given OrderId along with the parent Order and I would like to use the same 2-table approach so that I could reuse the client code to populate my custom Order and Client objects from the 2 datatables returned. What I was hoping to do was this: Construct a dynamic SQL string on the Client which joins the orders table to the Items table and filters appropriate on each table as specified by the custom filter created on the Winform fat-client app. The SQL build on the client would have looked something like this: TempSQL = " INSERT INTO #ItemsToQuery OrderId, ItemsId FROM Orders, Items WHERE Orders.OrderID = Items.OrderId AND /* Some unpredictable Order filters go here */ AND /* Some unpredictable Items filters go here */ " Then, I would call a stored procedure, CREATE PROCEDURE GetItemsAndOrders(@tempSql as text) Execute (@tempSQL) --to create the #ItemsToQuery table SELECT * FROM Items WHERE Items.ItemId IN (SELECT ItemId FROM #ItemsToQuery) SELECT * FROM Orders WHERE Orders.OrderId IN (SELECT DISTINCT OrderId FROM #ItemsToQuery) The problem with this approach is that #ItemsToQuery table, since it was created by dynamic SQL, is inaccessible from the following 2 static SQLs and if I change the static SQLs to dynamic, no results are passed back to the fat client. 3 around come to mind but I'm look for a better one: 1) The first SQL could be performed by executing the dynamically constructed SQL from the client. The results could then be passed as a table to a modified version of the above stored procedure. I am familiar with passing table data as XML. If I did this, the stored proc could then insert the data into a temporary table using a static SQL that, because it was created by dynamic SQL, could then be queried without issue. (I could also investigate into passing the new Table type param instead of XML.) However, I would like to avoid passing up potentially large lists to a stored procedure. 2) I could perform all the queries from the client. The first would be something like this: SELECT Items.* FROM Orders, Items WHERE Order.OrderId = Items.OrderId AND (dynamic filter) SELECT Orders.* FROM Orders, Items WHERE Order.OrderId = Items.OrderId AND (dynamic filter) This still provides me with the ability to reuse my client sided object-population code because the Orders and Items continue to be returned in two different tables. I have a feeling to, that I might have some options using a Table data type within my stored proc, but that is also new to me and I would appreciate a little bit of spoon feeding on that one. If you even scanned this far in what I wrote, I am surprised, but if so, I woul dappreciate any of your thoughts on how to accomplish this best.

  • NHibernate handling mutliple resultsets from a sp call

    - by Michael Baldry
I'm using a stored procedure to handle search on my site, it includes full text searching, relevance and paging. I also wanted it to return the total number of results that would have been returned, had paging not being there. So I've now got my SP returning 2 select statements, the search and just SELECT @totalResults. Is there any way I can get NHibernate to handle this? I'm currently accessing the ISession's connection, creating a command and executing the SP myself, and mapping the results. This isn't ideal, so I'm hoping I can get NH to handle this for me. Or if anyone has any other better ways of creating complicated searches etc with NH, I'd really like to hear it.

  • Generating the SQL query plan takes 5 minutes, the query itself runs in milliseconds. What's up?

    - by TheImirOfGroofunkistan
I have a fairly complex (or ugly depending on how you look at it) stored procedure running on SQL Server 2008. It bases a lot of the logic on a view that has a pk table and a fk table. The fk table is left joined to the pk table slightly more than 30 times (the fk table has a poor design - it uses name value pairs that I need to flatten out. Unfortunately, it's 3rd party and I cannot change it). Anyway, it had been running fine for weeks until I periodically noticed a run that would take 3-5 minutes. It turns out that this is the time it takes to generate the query plan. Once the query plan exists and is cached, the stored procedure itself runs very efficiently. Things run smoothly until there is a reason to regenerate and cache the query plan again. Has anyone seen this? Why does it take so long to generate the plan? Are there ways to make it come up with a plan faster?

I know that VARCHAR2 type can contain 32KB in PL/SQL. But, in my test, VARCHAR2 parameter contains only 200 Bytes. What's wrong with this situation? This procedure will called by java daemon program. So, There's no declaration of parameters size before calling procedure. Thanks in advance for your reply.

  • How to export more than 1MB in XML format using sqlcmd and without an input file?

    - by jon
Hello, In SQL Server 2008, I want to export the result of a stored procedure to a file using sqlcmd utility. Now the end of my stored procedure is a select statement with a "for xml path.." clause at the end. I read on BOL that if I don't want my output truncated when reaching 1MB file size, I have to use this :XML ON command, but it should be placed on its own line, before calling the stored procedure. Does any of you experts know if it is possible to do that without specifying an input file for sqlcmd? (I'm calling sqlcmd like this: exec master..xp_cmdshell 'sqlcmd -Q"exec storedProcedureName @param1=value1, @param2=value2" -o c:\exportResults.xml -h-1 -E', but "storedProcedureName" and its parameters can change, which would mean 1 input file per passed parameters to sqlcmd) Also, it seems that I can't use bcp instead of sqlcmd because my stored procedure is creating a temporary table and performing DML statements on it? Thanks a lot

  • Value Comparison with a multivalued column in SQL Database Table

    - by Rishabh Ohri
Hi All, Suppose there is a table A which has a column AccessRights which is multivalued( Eg of values in it in this format STOLI,HELP,BRANCH(comma separated string) Now a stored procedure is written against this table to fetch records based on a AccessRight parameter sent to the SP. Let that parameter be @AccessRights, this is also a comma separated string which may have a value like STOLI,BRANCH,HELPLINE etc Now I want to compare individual values from the parameter @AccessRights with the column AccessRights. Current Approach is I split the Comma Separated string(@AccessRights) using a User Defined Function Split. And I get Individual values in a Table variable(Contains only one column "accessGroup"), the individual values are in a Table variable under the column name accessGroup and I use following code in the SP for comparison Where AccessRights like '%'+accessGroup+'%' Now if the user passes the parameter (HELP, OLI) instead of( HELP,STOLI) the SP will give the output. What should be done for comparison so that that subststring OLI does not give the output for STOLI

  • Eclipse Debug Mode disrupting SQL Server 2005 Stored Procedure access

    - by Sathish
We have a strange problem in our team. When a developer is using Eclipse in Debug mode, SQL Server 2005 blocks other developers from accessing a stored procedure. Debug session typically involves opening Hibernate session to persist an entity which could be accessing a stored procedure used for Primary key generation. Debugging is done in business logic code and rarely in JDBC stored procedure call. Is there any way to configure SQL server or the stored procedure so that other developers are not blocked?

  • view to select specific period or latest when null

    - by edosoft
Hi I have a product table which simplifies to this: create table product(id int primary key identity, productid int, year int, quarter int, price money) and some sample data: insert into product select 11, 2010, 1, 1.11 insert into product select 11, 2010, 2, 2.11 insert into product select 11, 2010, 3, 3.11 insert into product select 12, 2010, 1, 1.12 insert into product select 12, 2010, 2, 2.12 insert into product select 13, 2010, 1, 1.13 Prices are can be changed each quarter, but not all products get a new price each quarter. Now I could duplicate the data each quarter, keeping the price the same, but I'd rather use a view. How can I create a view that can be used to return prices for (for example) quarter 2? I've written this to return the current (=latest) price: CREATE VIEW vwCurrentPrices AS SELECT * FROM ( SELECT *, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY productid ORDER BY year DESC, quarter DESC) AS Ranking FROM product ) p WHERE p.Ranking = 1 I'd like to create a view so I can use queries like select * from vwProduct where quarter = 2

  • ExecuteNonQuery on a stored proc causes it to be deleted

    - by FinancialRadDeveloper
    This is a strange one. I have a Dev SQL Server which has the stored proc on it, and the same stored proc when used with the same code on the UAT DB causes it to delete itself! Has anyone heard of this behaviour? SQL Code: -- Check if user is registered with the system IF OBJECT_ID('dbo.sp_is_valid_user') IS NOT NULL BEGIN DROP PROCEDURE dbo.sp_is_valid_user IF OBJECT_ID('dbo.sp_is_valid_user') IS NOT NULL PRINT '<<< FAILED DROPPING PROCEDURE dbo.sp_is_valid_user >>>' ELSE PRINT '<<< DROPPED PROCEDURE dbo.sp_is_valid_user >>>' END go create procedure dbo.sp_is_valid_user @username as varchar(20), @isvalid as int OUTPUT AS BEGIN declare @tmpuser as varchar(20) select @tmpuser = username from CPUserData where username = @username if @tmpuser = @username BEGIN select @isvalid = 1 END else BEGIN select @isvalid = 0 END END GO Usage example DECLARE @isvalid int exec dbo.sp_is_valid_user 'username', @isvalid OUTPUT SELECT valid = @isvalid The usage example work all day... when I access it via C# it deletes itself in the UAT SQL DB but not the Dev one!! C# Code: public bool IsValidUser(string sUsername, ref string sErrMsg) { string sDBConn = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["StoredProcDBConnection"]; SqlCommand sqlcmd = new SqlCommand(); SqlDataAdapter sqlAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(); try { SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(sDBConn); sqlcmd.Connection = conn; conn.Open(); sqlcmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; sqlcmd.CommandText = "sp_is_valid_user"; // params to pass in sqlcmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@username", sUsername); // param for checking success passed back out sqlcmd.Parameters.Add("@isvalid", SqlDbType.Int); sqlcmd.Parameters["@isvalid"].Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; sqlcmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); int nIsValid = (int)sqlcmd.Parameters["@isvalid"].Value; if (nIsValid == 1) { conn.Close(); sErrMsg = "User Valid"; return true; } else { conn.Close(); sErrMsg = "Username : " + sUsername + " not found."; return false; } } catch (Exception e) { sErrMsg = "Error :" + e.Source + " msg: " + e.Message; return false; } }
