• Can I delete the OEM partition on the new Dell XPS 15?

  My new Dell XPS 15 L521X just arrived. I need to set this up to dual boot Linux. Sadly, the system comes with four primary partitions. I can't do a clean install at the moment, so one of the partitions will have to be deleted before I can install Linux. The layout is as follows: OEM: 39mb Hibernation: 8gb OS: 457gb Recovery: 12gb Obviously, I can't delete the Hibernation and OS partitions (will shrink to make space for Linux) and I'd like to keep the recovery partition if possible. So my question is what is on the small OEM partition? What functionality will I lose if I delete it?

• Can I install linux has the host in a dell poweredge server (r710)?

  I might have a deal on dual six core poweredge server and I'm about to go test its performance but I'm wondering few things which I can't find answers for, and I can't test them before buying the machine. I don't want vmware at all so can I just wipe it and install linux instead, or is it embedded in some parts I have no access to. Will I still be able to update different firmwares (perc controllers, motherboard, etc) on this dell poweredge or does it require to have the vmware esxi installed as the host os. And optionally.. is there any foreseeable problems in doing so?

  I have a DELL D620 laptop running Zorin OS 6.0 (3.2.0) The wireless was working prior to running Update Manager.   I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on a Dell XPS L502X and when I connect the HDMI cable from the TV to the computer Ubuntu detects nothing at all, It works perfectly fine in Windows 7 though. I've already went to the Display control, plugged and unplugged the TV, clicked the Detect Displays button, and nothing. Do I have to activate the HDMI output or something? Because I used another computer with a VGA output and it worked perfectly.

  I don't know what to do. Every install of either 13.04 and 12.04 on my Dell does not have a working wired or wireless internet connection. However, if I am running from USB in the trial mode I have working internet through a wired connection using the same ethernet cord.   I have a problem where Ubuntu (12.04) says there is a wireless network card, but it is disabled by a hardware switch. How do I turn it on? I checked the BIOS, and the wireless card is enabled there. Fn + F2 was also no success. The results of rfkill list: 0: brcmwl-0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes 1: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: yes sudo rfkill unblock wifi did nothing to the Wireless Status.

• Dell Latitude E6420 in-built microphone not working

  I'm running with Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on Dell Latitude E6420. The inbuilt microphone is not working, and is not listed on the sound settings dialog. According to lspci, the device is: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) I've also looked at alsamixer, and can see a "mic" and "dock mic" but fiddling with these and increasing to max amplification doesn't appear to change anything.
