  • Backup / Disaster Recovery, should I store RAR-compressed files?

    I'm in the process of recovering files from an accidentally formated Ext4 partition using Photorec. It had about 300Gb of data, of which I've already got hold of about 30Gb. So far, it seems to me that the recovery of RAR-compressed files has been much more successful than the recovery of individual uncompressed files and ZIP compressed files - in the sense that a lot of recovered files/zips were unreadable, and pretty much all of the RAR files were intact. Is there such a relation? Are RAR-compressed files really less prone to corruption and thus easier to recover?

    Hi There, When I try to run my site it gives error as Internal Server error, when I refresh the page I get my result properly.The error page looks like this: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.     I have Lubuntu 11.10 installed on /dev/sda3, and Xubuntu 11.10 on /dev/sda5. A while ago, while being on Lubuntu, I made a mistake somewhere in creating a Live USB: by mistake, I installed a Live USB bootloader into /dev/sda3. This didn't result in any problem at that time. Today, I updated the kernel. I had to restart Lubuntu. In Grub, Lubuntu suddenly didn't appear anymore, and I booted automatically in Xubuntu. I tried to run update-grub and tried to use grub-customizer to get Lubuntu back in Grub, but this didn't work. I ran os-prober, but it doesn't show me Lubuntu. Then, I tried to add a new entry to /etc/grub.d/ on /dev/sda5 called 12_lubuntu. It contained the following: #!/bin/sh -e echo "Lubuntu" cat << EOF menuentry "Lubuntu" { set root=(hd0,3) linux /boot/vmlinuz initrd /boot/initrd.img } EOF After doing that, I ran update-grub and with grub-customizer, I wrote the Grub-configuration to MBR, that is: /dev/sda. Suddenly, Lubuntu appeared in Grub. I tried to launch it, but when doing this, the following message appeared: Error: You need to load the kernel first How can I make Grub start Lubuntu again?

  • ubuntu live cd start up error

    First off, I'm new to the Linux scene. This is my first attempt to make a single boot installation for Ubuntu. I tried it for a few days in dual boot with win7 and I was sold, so i removed the tumor my pc had to endure for so long (sorry laptop) and installed Ubuntu from an usb boot device. My dual boot was as follows: Windows 7 was installed on partition C from hdd1, the windows installer for Ubuntu installed Ubuntu on partition I on that same hdd, hdd1. In the live cd installation I did the normal execution for removing windows and it said that after the installation my partition would be 320gb big, that is the total size of my hdd, so I automatically assumed that it would format my whole hdd. Now the installation has completed and it tells me to restart my system, and here comes the problem: now I get a dashing white cursor on my screen after the BIOS load and it won't budge... it just stands there and it doesn't move on or load Ubuntu, the system gets very hot at this point... Then I tried to reinstall using the same live CD, it is still on my USB drive, but when I boot from the USB, I get the error: no such file with some address and the a grub rescue. What to do? I can get hold of a win7 copy, but I don't really want to use that crap again... Thanks for helping me out. Kind regards, Emiel

    i have a web site for download mobile files and there many users in my web site. sometimes i have the error below : HTTP Error 503 - Service is unavailable 1-so why this error happens and what is that mean? 2-as i know appache free up itself when it's oveloaded, but what about iis? how can i put some limitations in my server (i have remote access to my server) for prevent this error happening? a.is limitation of dowload's speed efficient for prevent that error's occur? how can i do that? is squid useful for this job or i can do that with another iis extension. b.is limitation of download's Bandwidth efficient for prevent that error's occur? how can i do that (with iis or another extension)? in right side of iis - configure area - i found some limits. what do those limits mean and can i use them for keep my server alive all the time? EDIT: after viewing event viewer of windows - custom views - server rols - web server (iis) i figure out there is no error in that area. but many warnings and information. the latest warnings and information are like below : warning A worker process '2408' serving application pool 'ASP.NET 4.0 (Integrated)' failed to stop a listener channel for protocol 'http' in the allotted time.     I installed new boxes at the beginning of the week. 1) Web Server on Win2008 x64, IIS 7 + all updates 2) DB Server on Win2008 x64, SQL 2008 Ent + all updates I configured my websites, set up host headers and DNS entries, worked through some problems on my handlers and finally got it all running Wednesday morning. Our team has been using it since then. This morning I came in and everyone of us is getting a 500 error.     Have this computer for about 2 years now. Originally had Vista installed, now have Windows 7 installed. Both on separate hard drives. Also have another drive used strictly for media. About a week ago, the Vista hard drive started going on its way out. Was getting problems on startup. After a few BIOS settings, I was able to get into Windows 7 and everything was fine. However, I started remembering the startup issues, so I deleted the bootup for Vista under msconfig. Didn't restart the computer at that time, though. For a few days, everything was ok. Last night I play a little poker, then hit the hay. I wake up to a good ole "Error loading operating system" on the screen. Just wonderful. Looks like the computer restarted overnight (auto updates, anyone?). So, after a big of finagling and half hearted tries, I can't get past the "Error loading operating system" screen. FWIW, in the BIOS it can see my hard drives fine. So I move on. I get my Windows 7 installation disk to try and do a repair. Go in the BIOS, change boot priority to DVD drive, and we're on our merry way. After loading from the disc, I first try jumping into the "Repair your computer" section. That opens up the System Recovery Options. However, this is where the problem comes into play. I don't see any operating systems here. Nada. What's odd though is if I click on the Load Drivers button, I can see my Windows 7 partition (C:), and can go through the files and folders without issue. What do I do at this point? I can't repair it. It seems like I can traverse the hard drive without issue when in an open dialog in the System Recovery Options, but I'm getting the good ole "Error loading computer" on bootup. Suggestions? Thanks all!!

  • Getting error 2048 at whatever I'm doing in Eclipse

    Hi, whatever I'm doing in Eclipse, I get an error. At start up I get an error at Java tooling initializing. I get an error when I want to open a type. And it's always the same error. For example, when opening a type I get: An internal error occurred during: "Cache refresh". 2048 The error at the start up also prints the error code as 2048. I'm using the most up to date version of Eclipse. Do you know a way to fix this issue?

    I'm having a problem with Ubuntu that I'm finding hard to troubleshoot for reasons that will become clear: reboot -bash: /sbin/reboot: Input/output error dmesg -bash: /bin/dmesg: Input/output error ps -e ps: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libproc-3.2.8.so: cannot read file data: Input/output error lsof -bash: /usr/bin/lsof: Input/output error fsck -bash: /sbin/fsck: Input/output error badblocks -bash: /sbin/badblocks: Input/output error So I can't see what is going on, and I can't remotely reboot. What can I do to get to the bottom of this? Interestingly: init 0 Segmentation fault I can cat /var/syslog but not /var/log/messages or several other important files. less and more don't work, neither do tail or head, etc.
