  • ntbackup workalike for adhoc full backups in Windows 7 thats free and preferably open source

    On windows 2000 and XP machines I used to be able to do the following: ntbackup backup systemstate c: /f e:\backups\machineName\machineName-full+systemstate_200101206.bkf This gave me a full backup of the system that I could use to do a system restore, after doing a barebones OS install. Windows 7 has a great utility for regular backups with alerting and all that stuff. It does not seem to have command line support. I'd like a backup solution for my Windwos 7 systems that has the following features: Is free Is open source (preferebly) Works while the system is booted and leaves the system functional (clonezilla is great for offline backups, and I use that too) Gives me a backup that is suited for a full system restore or partial system restore (ruling out most imaging software even if they could work while the system is booted via some sort of shadow copy voodoo) Can work via the command line Compression would be nice, the ability to pipe output would be better.

    Hi, There is a frequent occurence of FULL GC in our system. We are using Java application running on Tomcat server. Our application is running using internal load balancer setup. We are seeing lot of Full GC's in the server logs due to which the application is hung and Proxy errors are occured.   • Multiple Windows Desktop areas for Full-Screen applications

    Is it possible to run multiple instances of Windows Explorer within a single user session, or configure multiple desktops that are portions of a screen? I don't know the best way to describe what I want to achieve, but here's a picture of what I've got: I've got a 4 monitor setup, 3 portrait and one landscape, and I am normally running a number of RDP sessions, outlook, chrome, a development environment or two, so on and so forth. Most of these applications support full-screen views which mostly or completely hide the window borders, but on the Windows Desktop they take up a full monitor to do so. What I want to do is have 7 "desktops", "regions", call them what you will, each of which is, for the purposes of applications running in it, a "full screen" environment: I'm not tied to Windows Explorer for this, in case it helps - a different window manager that will support this functionality would be a perfectly acceptable answer.

    Hi, I have a database in SQL Server 2005 whose transaction log becomes full. It is using snapshot replication. I noticed the transaction log is not freeing up space. So I created an additional transaction log. Three days has passed and this first transaction log is still full. I performed a full database backup and transaction backup. Then I tried to shrink the transaction log but the shrink failed. Can anyone advise why shrinking transaction log is failing? ANy other recommendation on how to resolve the problem?

    Hello all Im beginner to VMWare player , im using CentOS 5.5 as the virtual OS and installed the VMWare Player in windows xp 32 bit And its working great , but when I like to start the GNUME gui to use x server its starting the GUI desktop right inside the VMWare server I like it just to start , and I will connect form out side ( for example with xming x server ) how can I do that ? Second question is how can I make the VMWare server with the GUI display to be full screen on my desktop ? Now when I resize the window its getting full screen but the Linux main window remain centered and small . and I like it to stretch full screen

    Quick version: New computer, attached to Windows domain, with SteadyState w/ Disk Protection turned on, cannot log on as domain user because Windows states 'system security log is full' Troubleshooting performed: disabled all 'restrictions' listed in SteadyState, cleared system security log, changed security log settings to overwrite entries when it becomes full, restarted computer to commit changes, verified changes were commited - still cannot log on as domain user, changed Documents and Settings folder to another partition, still cannot log on as domain user Let me know if you need a more detailed description of any steps performed.     I have a machine on a domain that does not show any headers or footers when viewing documents in word 2007, unless I switch to full screen mode.     I have a dual-monitor setup, and currently I can run a full screen game (Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 currently) and see still see anything I have open on my second monitor. I can't move my mouse from one monitor to the other, which is a good thing. However, I would like to know if it's possible to press some key combination and "release" my mouse control from the full screen game to my second monitor without the game minimizing (which is what happens when I ALT - Tab).

    Since I have tried to install xapian but failed, I try another alternative with xapian-full.   • Getting Safari document title/location with Scripting Bridge does not work in full-screen mode

    I'm trying to get the URL and document title from the topmost Safari document/tab. I have an AppleScript and an objective-c version using Apple's Scripting Bridge framework. Both versions work fine for most web pages, however when I open a Youtube video in full-screen mode, the Scripting Bridge based version fails. The Apple Script works fine for "normal" and full-screen Safari windows. Can anyone see what is wrong with the Scripting Bridge code below to cause it to fail for full-screen Safari windows?   • Problem registering a COM server written for Excel registered on client machine (can't set full path

    In this previous question <How to get COM Server for Excel written in VB.NET installed and registered in Automation Servers list? there is an example of how to create the full path to a registry key using VS 2008. Everything in the previous answer works correctly except the full path that I am setting (using the registry editor in VS) for mscoree.dll is not working (meaning it seems to do nothing). The full registry path is: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{my_GUID}\InprocServer32(default) and the value I am setting is: [SystemFolder]mscoree.dll I can put anything (including hardcoding the full path) but the setting does not seem to matter and the registry always contains mscoree.dll without any path. I have tried adding another value to the registry path via VS and that works correctly including having the full path as specified by [SystemFolder]. The reason I need the full path (as explained in the previous question) is that without the path, Excel generates an error when the automation server is selected as it cannot find mscoree.dll (interestingly even though I receive an error the registration works OK). I am doing the install via a setup project which otherwise works fine. I am installing on a VISTA*64 system but have gotten the same error on other OS's. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

  • XBMC launching external applications full screen

    Running xbmc-standalone (Eden) on Ubuntu server edition 12.04 (no gnome/kde/etc...). When launching another application via 'advanced launcher' or other launcher add-on XBMC goes into a 'windowed mode' and the app shows up in a 'windowed' mode. The XBMC and app windows are cascaded and most of the screen is unused. This is obviously not what i'd like. I'd like the app to launch full screen. ideas? Other info: - using lightdm - tried with 'Rom Browser' - tried with 'Advanced Launcher' - once app had launched, tried to 'toggle full screen' in app, but with no success

    Let's say I have three sessions: 0, 1 and 2 I'm on session 0 and I press CTRL-A S to split the screen. Then I select session 1 for the bottom split region, while 0 is in the upper. Can I switch to session 2 and have it display in full-screen while 0 and 1 remain split? If I CTRL-A n to other sessions in a split screen it only changes the split-region. I want some sessions to be full-screen though. Is that possible?

  • NIC: Changing Link Speed & Duplex to Full Duplex Is Drastically Slower

    I have an old Win Xp box with a 100 PRO/100 VE NIC and connecting to a Win 7 box with gigabit NIC via an ASUS gigabit router and peer to peer. I was getting 76% network utilisation on the XP machine using AUTO as the value for Link Speed and Duplex which is fine. But I decided to see what would happen if i selected Full Duplex 100Mbps on the XP box. I thought at worst it would be as good as auto detect since the Win 7 box it's transferring to is faster. Instead network utilisation dropped to 0.12% (as in a 10th of a percent) and the transfers just timed out. No biggie to reverse back to Auto but my question is why is full duplex such a dog? Im not "stuck" but just dont understand. There are only 2 machines here connecting through a router so i cant see how that would cause alot of collisions etc (if thats the problem).

  • HDFS datanode startup fails when disks are full

    Our HDFS cluster is only 90% full but some datanodes have some disks that are 100% full. That means when we mass reboot the entire cluster some datanodes completely fail to start with a message like this: 2013-10-26 03:58:27,295 ERROR org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.datanode.DataNode: java.io.IOException: Mkdirs failed to create /mnt/local/sda1/hadoop/dfsdata/blocksBeingWritten Only three have to fail this way before we start experiencing real data loss. Currently we workaround it by decreasing the amount of space reserved for the root user but we'll eventually run out. We also run the re-balancer pretty much constantly, but some disks stay stuck at 100% anyway. Changing the dfs.datanode.failed.volumes.tolerated setting is not the solution as the volume has not failed. Any ideas?

    This question already has an answer here: Centos 5 Full backup 1 answer I am on Centos 6.5 with a lot of soft and services installed and working. Also I've got a lot of configs which damaged my brain and I dont want to do it again:) So, can anyone please advice the best way to make a full system dump with all data, so I need only to copy-paste them to new system to get my system ready on the other machine. Or something like that? P.S. Data on my hdd is encrypted, and I'd liked and encrypted dump too. Please help:)
