• Update GRUB to reflect changed partition location

  I currently have 3 partitions: Windows, Ubuntu, and swap. I want to move my windows partition by about 20GB. When I try to do this in GParted, it tells me that this will mess up GRUB, and that there is a page that can resolve these issues. However, this page does not actually mention my issue. I am not moving my boot partition (Ubuntu). How can I force GRUB to look for operating systems that are on the drive? I know that this is possible, because when Ubuntu was installed it found Windows without any issues. Additionally, if I create a copy of a partition, how can I add that to GRUB (I assume it will be the same command as above, but if not, what would it be)? Note: OS prober is mentioned here but it doest not list how to use it, or where to find it.

• Location Change Salary Differences [closed]

  DISCLAIMER: I know that this might be a "regional" question but I'm also asking for help as far as what resources to use to determine my decision. I'm currently talking to a recruiter for a game developer in the SF Bay area. I work in a relatively low-cost area in the south. I really want to get into game development but my current career is general web development. I'm very interested in taking the job, but my concern is that the amount they're willing to pay might be a relative pay cut. Here are some factors: It's not an entry-level position, the title is Senior Software Engineer. I have 5+ years of experience. The calculators online tell me that I should be expecting around 2x my current pay rate(http://www.bestplaces.net/col/). My current pay is in the mid $60k/yr, so that's like 120-130k. The recruiter told me at my experience level I can expect about $90-100/yr, and that those cost of living calculators were way off. The benefits will definitely be better, it's much larger company (help with commuting, catered meals, etc). But is the recruiter trying to give me a snow job on the pay scale, or is that a reasonable change from a smallish town in the south to somewhere in the SF bay area? How can I find this out? Glassdoor and Payscale seem to say "senior software developers" in that area make around 110 in median salary, but Payscale says it's closer to $135k, that range seems pretty large.

• How to "undo" (revert) Ctrl+L?

  I'm on 12.04 Desktop. When browsing the file system, it's convenient to type Ctrl+L so as to get the file path "Location" to render as a string; I can then modify the file path or even paste something in and get redirected right where I want to go. But often, after typing Ctrl+L, I find myself wanting to revert back to the normal way Nautilus renders the file path (as a series of buttons/links). What's the magical shortcut to "undo" Ctrl+L and go back to "normal mode"? Thanks in advance!

• 3D Location Handling

  I am thinking about making a simulator type game that will involve having lots of small objects in a 3D space. What is the typical solution for handling these objects? The first thing that comes to mind is a 3D Array, but I can't help but think there is a more efficient solution. Another idea that comes to mind is objects having possession of smaller items. For example a House possesses a Table which possesses a Cup and Bowl. The final way I can think of handling this is just having an array of "objects" that each have an x, y, z value. While this would make storing them easy I do not understand how you would detect collisions without just looking at every possible object and checking to see if it is in the way. Are there other ways of holding onto these objects that is more efficient?

• Variable for the suffix of $request_uri that didn't match the location block prefix

  Suppose I want to move an /images/ directory to an images host so that what was before http://example.org/images/foo.png becomes http://images.example.org/foo.png. If I do: location /images/ { return 301 http://images.example.org$request_uri; }, the result is a redirect to http://images.example.org/images/foo.png which isn't what I want. An older question has an answer that suggests using a regexp location, but that seems like an overkill. Is there really no way to refer to $request_uri with the location prefix chopped off without using regular expressions? Seems like an obvious feature to have.

• NGINX Document Location

  I want to be able to access a given url, example.com/str. The problem is that the php file that I want to connect to is in a directory of /str/public/. In my nginx logs, I see that it is trying to connect to /str/public/str/index.php. Is there any way to remove that last 'str' in the document request? • Finding the Geo-location on a Blackberry?

  I'm running into an issue when trying to geolocate users whom are using blackberry devices. Currently there are a few checks that I go through to geolocate the individual the first, using the navigator paramater inside browsers. if(navigator.geolocation) if this fails then I have a backup using a free service (for testing) from maxmind: See Here Yet this doesn't return back the city at all either. • Real time location tracking - windows program or browser based?

  I want to track a few hundred, maybe a few thousand people in real time. Let's say that the hardware aspects are sorted out and I can get the data into a database. Now, I want to get it out and show it, in real-time. Weeeell ... "real-enough" time. Let's say that I want to draw a floorplan of a building and plot everyone every 1 to 5 seconds. (I might want to show only certain "kinds" of people at the click of a button; I will need datamining, etc, but let's stick with the worse case scenario). I am comfortable enough with PHP, though not this sort of thing. I personally would be happier with a windows app coded in Delphi, but the trend seems to be to make everything browser based. So, the question, I guess is whether a browser can handle this and whether there are compelling arguments for a windows-based or browser-based solution. If browser-based can handle this (displaying a few thousand data-points a second), and there are no overwhelming arguments for windows then I guess I will go for browser-based and learn a few new tricks. The obvious advantage being that I could also re-use a large part of my code for (vehicle) tracking on Google maps.

  I'm using HTML5 geolocation to collect the users lat / long and I need to figure out what their postal code is as well. I have a database of all the lat / long for each postal code in the US & Canada. How can I write a query to find out what their postal code is? Below, is an example of how the data is structured in the 'zips' table. Country PostalCode Latitude Longitude USA 0051 40.813078 -73.046388 USA 00616 18.426456 -66.673779 I can't do a 'SELECT PostalCode FROM zips WHERE Latitude = user.lat AND Longitude = user.long'. I believe I need to find the nearest lat / long. Any suggestions on how I can write this?

I would like to calculate the "real" coordinate of the touch, so that i know when the character has to keep going (click on the right of its actual position) or if he has to turn and go backwards. I also tried to use GPS_PROVIDER but it didnt work out. Yes i have all permissions in manifest. Map is able to load in if im not searhing for my loacation. Is it possible its NullPointer because before that i load some other coordinates in same class ? Maybe its emulator fault ? I can give extended code if needed. But what I want is to also be able to open a link in a dialog window, kinda like... <a href="/path/to/file.html" class="modal">Open Me!!</a> I've done this before by hardcoding the path: $('#modal').load('/path/to/file.html').dialog('open'); but we can't hardcode the path in the javascript (as there will be multiple coming from the database) and I'm struggling to understand how to get this to work. I'm also pretty sure that the answer is really obvious, and I'm merely setting myself up to be humbled by the clever folk here at StackOverflow, but I've scratched my head for long enough this afternoon, so my ego has been put away, and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction... • finding links that are hyper-links in jQuery

  Im trying to take a link either when clicked or hover over be able to grab the attribute href and tell if its a hyper-link or not. Also i want it to be able to tell me if its a hyper-link to my own site. Plus various other filters. The main purpose for this is so that when a internal link is clicked it will tell ajax to grab the content, alot of my links are generated (via wordpress)so I can't modify them too much. Another purpose for this is so i can also make all external links open on a new window. I have a solution that works on a simple test page but when i put into a working page it breaks. I know i am probably making this harder then it should be. • HTML/jQuery/CSS Drop Down Menu Issue / Safari

  I have a drop down menu that is coded in HTML, CSS, and jQuery and it works fine in Firefox and IE but not in Safari, and also not in Firefox on Mac. The drop down displays inline as opposed to list-item for the drop down in Safari. • Concept: Information Into Memory Location.

  I am having troubles conceptualizing an algorithm to be used to transform any information or data into a specific appropriate and reasonable memory location in any data structure that I will be devising. To give you an idea, I have a JPanel object instance and I created another Container type object instance of any subtype (note this is in Java because I love this language), then I collected those instances into a data structure not specifically just for those instances but also applicable to any type of object. Now my procedure for fetching those data again is to extract the object specific features similar in category to all object in that data structure and transform it into a integer data memory location (specifically as much as possible) or any type of data that will pertain to this transformation. And I can already access that memory location without further sorting or applications of O(n) time complex algorithms (which I think preferable but I wanted to do my own way XD). The data structure is of any type either binary tree, linked list, arrays or sets (and the like XD). What is important is I don't need to have successive comparing and analysis of data just to locate information in big structures. To give you a technical idea, I have to an array DS that contains JLabel object instance with a specific name "HelloWorld". But array DS contains other types of object (in multitude). Now this JLabel object has a location in the array at index [124324] (which is if you do any type of searching algorithm just to arrive at that location is conceivably slow because added to it the data structure used was an array *note please disregard the efficiency of the data structure to be used I just want to explain to you my concept XD). Now I want to equate "HelloWorld" to 124324 by using a conceptually made function applicable to all data types. So that I can do a direct search by doing this DS[extractLocation("HelloWorld")] just to get that JLabel instance. I know this may sound crazy but I want to test my concept of non-sorting feature extracting search algorithm for any data structure wherein my main problem is how to transform information to be stored into memory location of where it was stored.
