Hi,
I used to rename file in Linux via a rename command:
rename 's/old_pattern/new_pattern/g' *glob
Is there something similar in Mac OSX (snow leopard)? Thanks
Hi,
I have a collection of .tif files but when I open them on my Mac 10.5 they show up as solid black and I don't know why.
thanks
Upon further inspection at really high brightness there are some out of focus objects viewable. It looks as if I am getting the first couple bits of each pixel but not the entire range of values.
We're moving all our Mac's from local logins to OpenDirectory logins in an effort to keep everything secure and to also solve issues we have with a Tiger server buggering permissions on an AFP shared drive.
To cut it short, I want users to be able to login to their OpenDirectory account and I then want the AFP share point to mount using the credentials they just logged in with.
Firstly, is this possible (I assumed it was) and secondly how might I go about doing it?
Cheers,
Dave
I've got a mac with a firewire port but no HDMI port. I want to connect it to my HDTV. I've done this many times with a PC via HDMI and Svideo, but I'm not sure how to connect my new MacBook Pro to my HDTV. Any ideas?
I have a Mac connected to two different networks (wireless en1 and ethernet en0 ). The ethernet network is the preferred (System Preferences-Set Service Order).
I'd like to be able to print to a printer on the wireless network side, without having to go to System Preferences and make the wireless network come first in the service order.
Is there a way to add a route for a specific printer?
I don't care if you have to buy it(i use bittorrent) me and my cousin switched from pc to mac and i kind of miss hypercam to record our best moments in games, (such as, halo, Combat arms, starcraft, etc.) and showing hacks. I tried to use crossover 8 and 9 both pro versions and it hasnt worked. if anyone has a solution, lemme know, thanx!
Do you guys know any software that can reproduce the entire tree of directories under a certain directory to another disk and keep it update in real-time on Mac OS X?
A kind of mirror RAID, but instead of mirroring the whole disk I need to mirror just all directories inside one specific directory.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
They always say that one of the most important advantages of Macs is that no viruses are written/coded for them. What is the reason behind it? Is it so difficult or impossible to code a virus on Mac?
I am unable to locate the MAC address in a new computer with Windows 7. I've tried ipconfig/all to which I got "no items match your search". I also tried getmac. A screen flashed very briefly with what appeared to be the information but was not there long enough to read.
I have a Mac Pro running Leopard and a RCA to USB cable and a VCR. I'm trying to figure out the best way to capture VHS tapes onto my computer using what I have. I cannot seem to find video capturing software for Macs that would do this through USB, especially for cheap or free, or with the ability to capture in MPEG2 format.
Does anyone have directions/suggestions?
I'm looking for a regular expression based search/replace GUI tool that is able to handle multiple files/subdirectories, something like grepWin but for Mac OS X.
PS. I'm aware of grep and I don't need an editor, just a standalone tool.
I have an external hard drive with its own power. When I touch the usb cable against the case of my Mac I get little sparks.
I have tried it on a PC but don't seem to get the same sparks
Why might this be?
I am using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5. I am new to this development environment, and previously worked on Windows.
Could anyone recommend an easy to use GUI based and free FTP client for my platform?
Thanks in advance.
If I configure a Mac Pro with a RAID card and two 15k RPM drives, and leave the drives JBOD (no RAID configured), can I install Windows on the second drive? I guess the question really is, does Windows recognize the RAID card? I know it's probably just a rebadged LSI or Adaptec but wanted to see if anyone's actually done it...
What FREE software (included with Mac OS X, or public domain) would be a good, simple way to take some existing PNG clipart files and do some simple editing?
I really only need to do 3 things:
Rotate the image.
Clip the image.
Set a "transparent" color.
I don't need anything that takes weeks to learn or is super-powerful or super expensive.
Today Mac OS X kernel panicked twice on me.
The first time, I got this log.
The second time, I got this log.
A few minutes ago, iTunes started sounding blocky, after quitting FireFox everything went back to normal, I am currently using Opera.
These are my system's specs.
EDIT: I ran the apple hardware test and got these results.

Two part question:
I am having a difficulty regarding receiving my mail. I have 3 Gmail accounts & 1 Yahoo account. In Windows, I use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. What email client can I use on my Mac?
The second part is that my system administrator has banned accessing Gmail and Yahoo mail via their websites. Is it possible to still access it anyway?
Hi All,

I am using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5. I am new to this development environment, and previously worked on Windows.
I have tried when select a file (e.g. a ppt file on desktop), then I press Delete key on keyboard. The file is not deleted (seems no effect). How to delete a file from keyboard?
Thanks in advance.
I just used Onyx to clean out my caches and log files after which I did a reboot. Browsing the "All Messages" panel of the Console app I noticed this line:
10/27/13 3:38:03.000 PM kernel: 5.106.198.19
Since I did not recognize that IP I did a whois and to my surprise found out that it points to Eurolan Solutions in Romania.
So my question is why is my Mac 10.7.5 contacting Romania and how can I stop this from happening?
Many thanks
I'm dying at Mac OSX 10.5.8 + Firefox finding how to go to the beginning of the line in Google Docs
I was cursed with too little intelligence to use this glorified OS. Would any one please guide me in that so dead-simple stuff?
