  • Framework for interaction between web-page and server-side script

    I want to make a web-page that will have several controls elements, among which there are elements like check-boxes, radio-buttons, "range selectors" (one can specify the min and max value, like it is done when you select range for prices in the online markets). The new values shall be sent to the "server-side", once changed (without any Submit buttons etc), and the "server-side" can return something (one or more numbers, etc). Does anyone know a good ajax-like framework that allows (with minimal adaptation / changes) to make such solution in an easy way? It will be good if the server-side of existing solution will be in Perl (not a big deal, but I know it much better than PHP or something else). Set of controls might change and depend on other parameter, so adding one extra element should not cause rewriting the whole thing. P.S.: I haven't working in this area for quite a while, so not aware of existing solutions in this area, and don't want to invent the wheel and write everything from scratch for something that already exist (at least, I hope so).   • Rythmbox library set to: multiple locations and no way to edit/change

    I previously set Rhythmbox to include a few different locations. Now following changes to my directory structure, I'd like to reflect these changes in Rhythmbox. But when I go to "Library Location", I see "Multiple locations Set" and I can only add to the list; no way to edit/remove. I Googled this problem and the only relevant results I get date back to 2006, probably referring to a previous version of Rhythmbox and specifying components/locations that I can't find on my system. Give a look at the documentation...kind of minimal. Any clues? Ubuntu 12.04 Rhythmbox 2.96

    As a praxis, all external content on our site is put in iframes to lower the risks of any external parties injecting stuff to our users. We also do it to make sure our content shows up before banners, to make the site feel quicker. We now have an external script running which we want to put in an iframe, but it does not have any visible content to go with it so I want to put css "visibility: hidden;" on the iframe. I read in a forum somewhere that search engines will lower the rank of a page, or even drop the page, if a iframe has "the minimal size of 1x1px". Will a search engine lower the rank of my page if I have a hidden (or 1px big) iframe?

    I am writing a game in Pygame, I want to get collision detection. The aim is when a object hits another, the target object disappears. I want to avoid having classes and just have my code class less for now, in one script. This makes it difficult to get collision detection because the Rect method in Pygame is called on by an object(class). The logic I want to achieve is: object hits a target object target object disappears. is there an easy way to achieve this?(with minimal code possible)

  • GRUB prompt at boot after boot-repair

    I tried installing Ubuntu 12.04 from the live CD. The install went fine but i had the next error while booting : Grub stage 1.5 error 2. So I used boot-repair as explained here (http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/boot-repair). Still not working, i got this while booting : "GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3 Minimal bash-like line editing is supported. Etc...". Nothing more...   • Protecting the integrity of a game state while minimizing amount of data sent

    I'm developing a game in PHP/jQuery, and naturally have to be wary of any sort of data coming from the client. At present, I have tables of data representing the map (2D roguelike), monsters, items, and player(s). Initially, my thought was to simply package it all in a JSON object and send it every game tick, however when actually looking at the data I realized that's quite a large packet to be sending. So, my question is what is a good approach for minimizing data sent to the client? Obviously I would need to figure out some way of validating whatever it sends back. Initially we'd hoped to do some minimal verification on the client-side, but each time we thought of one thing we could do it is immediately invalidated with tools like Firebug. Kind of an open question I realize, but we want to get this right before we move on with our implementation so we don't have to shoehorn in bugfixes later on.

    I am downgrading an existing ubuntu 10.04 LTS Virtual Server to one with less memory and a smaller drive ( from 80GB to 40GB ). My hoster ( hetzner.de ) does not give me the possibility of doing an inplace downgrade, so I have to create a new server. What is the best way to make an image of the first system and "apply it" to the new one ? I know there other answer but in my situation I am not sure I would be able to use Clonezilla or other GUI tools, because the installation is minimal with no GUI. Thanks in advance Michele

I'm using the delta update method like shown: void update(double delta) { // Update code that uses `delta` goes here } I have a deep hierarchy of updatable objects, with a root updatable that contains several updatables, each of which contains more updatables, etc. Normally I'd just iterate through each of the root's children and update each one, which would then do the same for its children, and so on. However, passing a fixed value of delta to the root means that by the time the leaf updatables are reached, it's been longer since delta seconds that have elapsed. This is causing noticable desyncing in my game, and time synchronization is very important in my case (I'm working on a rhythm game). Any ideas on how I should tackle this? I've considered using StopWatches and a global readable timer, but any advice would be helpful. I'm also open to moving to fixed timesteps as opposed to variable.

  • WPF: TextBox expanding with surrounding Grid but not with text

    I have a problem with a TextBox in an application... A window has a Grid with two columns. The left column contains a control with a constant width but with a height that adapts. The right column contains a TextBox that takes up all remaining space in the Grid (and thereby in the Window). The Grid is given a minimal width and height and is wrapped within a ScrollViewer. If the user resizes the window to be smaller than the minimal widht/height of the Grid, scrollbars are displayed. This is exactly how I want it to be. However, a problem occurs when the user starts typing text. If the text is to long to fit in one line in the TextBox, I want the text to wrap. Therefore I set TextWrapping="Wrap" on the TextBox. But since the TextBox has an automatic width and is wrapped in a ScrollViewer (its actually the whole Grid that is wrapped), the TextBox just keeps expanding to the right. I do want the TextBox to expand if the window is expanded, but I don't want the TextBox to expand by the text. Rather the text should wrap inside the available TextBox. If the text don't fit within the TextBox height, a scrollbar should be displayed within the TextBox. Is there a way to accomplish this?     Has anyone seen any image deskew algorithms in c#? I have found: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/graphics/Deskew_an_Image.aspx but unfortunately, it doesn't do very much for images without text. I am specifically trying to auto deskew an image of a book with solid edges, but minimal text. Has anyone seen anything that may be able to do this?

    I'm stuck on this: Have a square. Put n points into this square so the minimal distance (not necessary the average distance) is the highest possible. I'm looking for an algorithm which would be able to generate the coordinates of all points given the count of them. Example results for n=4;5;6: Please don't mention computing-power based stuff such as trying a lot of combination and then nitpicking the right one and similar ideas.

I currently have an array of four bytes representing a UTF-8 sequence. On GNU/Linux, I can just convert to UTF-32 with iconv(), but on Windows, I cannot do this.
