• Can't add repository due to 'missing' fingerprint

  I am trying to install nginx with php but when I am following a guide, like this one: http://www.justincarmony.com/blog/2011/10/24/setting-up-nginx-php-fpm-on-ubuntu-10-04/ I am always told to add that repository (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:brianmercer/php) but I can't. I'll just get "Error: can't find signing_key_fingerprint at https://launchpad.net/api/1.0/~nginx/+archive/php5" and when I go to that website I find that there is a fingerprint specified but still I get that error message. Is there anyway to specify it myself? And for the last thing, how I can fix this so I can continue my installation towards a working nginx enviroment with php. Thanks for your advice and better wisdom.

• Missing ODBCConfig for SQLite and LibreOffice Base

  I have used OpenOffice Base as a front end for SQlite databases, in 10.04 linked via ODBC. I am updating to 12.04, so I loaded LibreOffice Base, looks just like OObase. I have 12.04 on one drive and 10.04 on another. I loaded Sqliteman, sqlite3, unixodbc-bin, unixodbc, libsqliteodbc, sqlitebrowser. I copied my databases directory over. But in terminal ODBCConfig is not on the 12.04 system. So I copied odbc.ini from the home directory on 10.04 to 12.04 home directory, and now LibreOffice Base can access my database, and all is fine. Anyone know what is the problem with ODBCConfig, is it another victim of the change in QT? Of course I could edit odbc.ini with jedit, now I can see the format. In terminal I tried sudo find / -name ODBCConfig, but its not there.

• TFS 2010 and the missing Area & Iterations (stale data) Issue

  The symptom is this: you change some area or iteration in a TFS Project, but the change is not reflected (or updated) in VS or any other TFS Client. Well, it happens that TFS now has some clever caching mechanisms that need to be updated when you make a change like this, and those changes are propagated by some scheduled jobs TFS is continuously running in the Application Tier.  So, you you get this behavior, please check (and possibly restart) the "Visual Studio Team Foundation Background Job Agent" service. In my case, this service was logging a very odd "Object Reference Not Set" into the Windows Event Log, and a simple restart fixed it. Hope this is fixed by RTM...   (we are using the RC version). • The Missing Post

  It’s somewhat of a mystery how the writing process can conjure up results that weren’t initially intended. Case in point is the fact that another post was planned to be in place of this one, but it never made the light of day.  This particular post started off as an introduction to a technology I had just learned, used, and wanted to share the experience with others.  The beginning was fun and demonstrated how easy it was to get started.  One of the things I’ve been pondering over time is that the Web is filled with introductions to new technologies and quick first looks, so I set out to add more depth, share lessons learned, and generally help you avoid the problems I encountered along the way; problems being a key theme of why you aren’t reading that post at this very minute.  Problems that curiously came from nowhere to thwart my good intentions. Success was sweet when using the tool for the prototypical demo scenario. The thing is, I intended the tool to accomplish a real task.  Having embarked on the path toward getting the job done, glitches began creeping into the process.  Realizing that this was all a bit new, I had patience and found a suitable work-around, but this was to be short lived. As in marching ants to a freshly laid out picnic, the problems kept coming until I had to get up and walk away.  Not to be outdone, sheer will and brute force manual intervention led to mission accomplishment.  Though I kept a positive outlook and was pleased at the final result, the process of using the tool had somewhat soured. Regardless of a less than stellar experience with the tool, I have a great deal of respect for the company that produced it and the people who built it. Perhaps I empathize for what they might feel after reading a post that details such deficiencies in their product.  Sure, if you’re in this business, you’ve got to have a thick skin; brush it off, fix the problem, and move on to greatness. But, today I feel like they’re people and are probably already aware of any issues I would seemingly reveal.  Anyone who builds a product or provides a service takes a lot of pride in what they do.  Sometimes they screw up and if their worth a dime, they make it up. I think that will happen in this case and there’s no reason why I should post information that has the potential to sound more negative than helpful.  While no one would ever notice or care either way, I’m posting something that won’t harm. • Error trapping for a missing data source in a Spring MVC / Spring JDBC web app [migrated]

  I have written a web app that uses Spring MVC libraries and Spring JDBC to connect to an Oracle DB. (I don't use any ORM type libraries as I create stored procedures on Oracle that do my stuff and I'm quite happy with that.) I use a connection pool to Oracle managed by the Tomcat container The app generally works absolutely fine by the way! BUT... I noticed the other day when I tried to set up the app on another Tomcat instance that I had forgotten to configure the connection pool and obviously the app could not get hold of an org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource object, so it crashed. I define the pool params in the tomcat "context.conf" In my "web.xml" I have: <servlet> <servlet-name>appServlet</servlet-name> <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class> <init-param> <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name> <param-value>/WEB-INF/Spring/appServlet/servlet-context.xml</param-value> </init-param> <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>appServlet</servlet-name> <!-- Map *everything* to appServlet --> <url-pattern>/</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <resource-ref> <description>Oracle Datasource example</description> <res-ref-name>jdbc/ora1</res-ref-name> <res-type>org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource</res-type> <res-auth>Container</res-auth> </resource-ref> And I have a Spring "servlet-context.xml" where JNDI is used to map the data source object provided by the connection pool to a Spring bean with the ID of "dataSource": <jee:jndi-lookup id="dataSource" jndi-name="java:comp/env/jdbc/ora1" resource-ref="true" /> Here's the question: Where do I trap the case where the database cannot be accessed for whatever reason? I don't want the user to see a yard-and-a-half of Java stack trace in their browser, rather a nicer message that tells them there is a database problem etc. It seems that my app tries to configure the "dataSource" bean (in "servlet-context.xml") before any code has tested it can actually provide a dataSource object from the pool?! Maybe I'm not fully understanding exactly what is going on in these stages of the app firing up ... Thanks for any advice!

Affected text will be displayed using a substitute font. The font QuickTypePi is missing. Affected text will be displayed using a substitute font. How can I provide the missing fonts so that no substitution occurs and upon return to Adobe Acrobat Pro X the original fonts will remain after any edits in Illustrator? Or, since the message talks about their display, will the font remain unchanged upon return to Adobe Acrobat?

• Solving Null Entity Problems with JPA Data Controls in PS1

  Turns out there is a slight bug that seems to prevent you from doing interactions (update, scroll) with the results of a JPA named query that you dropped on a page using ADF Binding. People are running into this when they are doing the EJB tutorial on OTN for example. The problem is that the way the binding is set up for you automatically doesn't allow you to actually access the iterator set of records to do follow up operations. When I last checked this was solved in the next release of JDeveloper, but in the meantime there is a quick simple way to resolve the issue by changing the refresh condition of the oiterator in your page binding. Here is a little demo that shows the problem and the solution:

• How to change ownership of a domain name from "missing" web designer

  Hi, We had a website produced a few years ago with a .ORG domain name. The site hadn't grown with our needs, so we've now got a new .co.uk site. Our intention was to transfer the .org address to the new site on completion. Our new site is to go live soon, but the original .ORG site has gone offline (hosting expired I believe as the expiry date for the .ORG is in 2012) and we now discover that the .ORG domain name is registered to the web designer and not to anyone in our organisation. The WHOIS information gives us the technical contact as discountasp.net. What are the steps we can take here? Our primary concern is getting the name servers changed (the current .ORG address goes nowhere) and ultimately we need to transfer ownership? The organisation in question is a community, non-profit organisation, so our pockets are not deep. Thanks in advance for any help. Stuart.

• Window borders missing - gtk-window-decorator segmentation fault

  I have been using Ubuntu for about 1 year now and I got a problem just two days ago. Suddenly I started experiencing a problem with the window borders (title bar with close, maximize, and minimize buttons). The problem : The window borders disappear I run "gtk-window-decorator --replace" For like 20 seconds everything is back to normal But it again returns to the problem. I searched over the Internet and found that my problem is similar to what is specified in this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/814091 This bug report says that the "fix released". I updated everything using the Update Manager, but still the problem remains. Can anyone let me know whether the problem is fixed? If yes, can you please let me know how to do it? I have already tried normal replace/reset commands like unity --reset unity --replace compiz --replace The "window borders" plugin is on in CCSM (CompizConfig Settings Manager) and it points to "gtk-window-decorator". I use Ubuntu 11.10 on an Intel Core2Duo T6500 with AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4300 graphics card. If you need more information, please let me know.

  I'm trying to build a terrain starting from a heightmap. I've already some ideas about the procedure, but I can't even get started. I feel like I have to use a MeshBuider. The problem is that Visual Studio (I'm using the 2008 version) wants an assembly. Effectively on the MSDN there's a line specifying the assembly needed by the MeshBuilder, but I don't know how to import/load it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance :)

• Monogame - Shader parameters missing

  I am currently working on a simple game that I am building in Windows 8 using MonoGame (develop3d). I am using some shader code from a tutorial (made by Charles Humphrey) and having an issue populating a 'texture' parameter. I'm not well versed writing shaders, so this might be caused by a more obvious problem. I have debugged through MonoGame's Content processor to see how this shader is being parsed, all the non 'texture' parameters are there and look to be loading correctly. • Unable to Install VirtualBox Due to Missing Kernel Module

  I am trying to install VirtualBox on my Ubuntu. I first tried to sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose in a terminal, but after the configuration step, it fails with an error: No suitable module for running kernel found When proceeding with starting virtualbox, I get this error: WARNING: The character device /dev/vboxdrv does not exist. Please install the virtualbox-ose-dkms package and the appropriate headers, most likely linux-headers-generic. You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed. So I tried the package from http://www.virtualbox.org/, but starting VirtualBox fails with: WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module available for the current kernel (2.6.38-8-generic-pae) or it failed to load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed. So I ran sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup, but it fails too: * Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules [ OK ] * Uninstalling old VirtualBox DKMS kernel modules [ OK ] * Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules using DKMS Error! • Unsatisfied Link Error and missing .so files when starting Eclipse

  I upgraded to the 12.04 beta yesterday. Now, when I try to start Eclipse, I get the splash screen and then this error message: An error has occurred. See the log file /home/gabriel/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.7.0_155965261/configuration/1335382319394.log . The log file says something like this: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. Reasons: no swt-gtk-3740 in java.library.path no swt-gtk in java.library.path Can't load library: /home/gabriel/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/libswt-gtk-3740.so Can't load library: /home/gabriel/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/libswt-gtk.so followed by many more error messages. The /home/gabriel/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/ directory exists, but is empty. I also tried reinstalling eclipse with no success. Any ideas?

• Nautilus header bar missing -- Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 (Gnome 3.10)

  So, I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu GNOME 13.10, added the gnome3-team/gnome3-next and gnome3-team/gnome3-staging PPA's, and upgraded to Gnome 3.10. (Also using a dual-monitor system, 1920 x 1080, Nvidia-319 driver.) Everything was running fine after the updates (including Nautilus, or "Files"), but when I opened Nautilus, at some point, the header bar was gone, and it got stuck in full-screen mode. The header is there for every other application, though. I can't resize Nautilus, I can't move it with the Alt+F7 hotkey. I can, however, make the sidebar disappear with F9 and make the program close with Alt+F4. I can also bring up the window menu with Alt+space, but the options to "resize" and "move" are greyed out, and the "Move Titlebar Onscreen" does nothing when clicked. Attempted solutions: I uninstalled, ran apt-get autoremove clean autoclean, and re-installed Nautilus, including any subsequent applications that were removed -- no fix. I installed and tried replacing the titlebar theme with Ambiance via Gnome Tweak Tool to at least restore the header/title bar -- no fix. I created a new user, logged into that, and opened Nautilus. It DID open up in the windowed mode with the header bar, but then, without my involvement, went to full-screen without the header bar. Same problem. Running "sudo nautilus" from the terminal does open it (full-screen, without header), but gives this error: (nautilus:7531): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to register client: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files Here's a screenshot of the complete Nautilus dialog box:

• Compiz not drawing window controls in ubuntu 11.10

  I have recently installed driver for my ATI graphic card in my Dell Studio laptop. I have also read this somewhere on the web that Ubuntu enables compiz window manager by default if your hardware can run it. Is it true ? In my case before Installing graphic card driver the window manager was Metacity, but now I have compiz as my Window manager. I found this out uisng Displex Indicator applet also confirmed by wmctrl -m. From the time I have installed graphic card drivers, the window manager(Compiz) is not drawing window control buttons for some of the windows. For example if I open a terminal I have to close it using key board shortcuts or use the File - Quit option in app-menu. Also I am not able to move the window because of this. From then when-ever I find a window without window control buttons I am restarting the window manager using Displex Indicator applet. But this is very annoying and also consumes a lot of time(when I am doing my work). Can any one suggest any solution for this. What are up's and down's of using Compiz Vs Metacity.

• Handling null values and missing object properties in Silverlight 4

  Before Silverlight 4 to bind a data object to the UI and display a message associated with either a null value or if the binding path was wrong, you would need to write a Converter.  In Silverlight 4 we find the addition of the markup extensions TargetNullValue and FallbackValue that allows us to display a value when a null value is found in the bound to property and display a value when the property being bound to is not found. This post will show you how to use both markup extensions. Steps: 1. Create a new Silverlight 4 application 2. • Security Controls on data for P6 Analytics

  The Star database and P6 Analytics calculates security based on P6 security using OBS, global, project, cost, and resource security considerations. If there is some concern that users are not seeing expected data in P6 Analytics here are some areas to review: 1. Determining if a user has cost security is based on the Project level security privileges - either View Project Costs/Financials or Edit EPS Financials. If expecting to see costs make sure one of these permissions are allocated.  2. User must have OBS access on a Project. Not WBS level. WBS level security is not supported. Make sure user has OBS on project level.  3. Resource Access is determined by what is granted in P6. Verify the resource access granted to this user in P6. Resource security is hierarchical. Project access will override Resource access based on the way security policies are applied. 4. Module access must be given to a P6 user for that user to come over into Star/P6 Analytics. For earlier version of RDB there was a report_user_flag on the Users table. This flag field is no longer used after P6 Reporting Database 2.1. 5. For P6 Reporting Database versions 2.2 and higher, the Extended Schema Security service must be run to calculate all security. Any changes to privileges or security this service must be rerun before any ETL. 6. In P6 Analytics 2.0 or higher, a Weblogic user must exist that matches the P6 username. For example user Tim must exist in P6 and Weblogic users for Tim to be able to log into P6 Analytics and access data based on  P6 security.  In earlier versions the username needed to exist in RPD. 7. Cache in OBI is another area that can sometimes make it seem a user isn't seeing the data they expect. While cache can be beneficial for performance in OBI. If the data is outdated it can retrieve older, stale data. Clearing or turning off cache when rerunning a query can determine if the returned result set was from cache or from the database.

• Apps missing in Software Centre

  I'm using Elementary OS Luna beta 1, based on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise. I used to used Quantal, as I remember there were roughly 68000 apps. Massive commercial apps, and the banner on top shows new hot apps all the time. Now I switch to Elementary because Compiz sucks with Nvidia. However, Software Centre now only has 41000 apps. No commercial apps, no 3rd party apps. I'm pretty sure I have all the sources enabled: My sources.list: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1396213/
