  • iPhone SDK / Objective C Syntax Question

    - by Koppo
To all, I was looking at the sample project from http://iphoneonrails.com/ and I saw they took the NSObject class and added methods to it for the SOAP calls. Their sample project can be downloaded from here http://iphoneonrails.com/downloads/objective_resource-1.01.zip. My question is related to my lack of knowledge on the following syntax as I haven't seen it yet in a iPhone project. There is a header file called NSObject+ObjectiveResource.h where they declare and change NSObject to have extra methods for this project. Is the "+ObjectiveResource.h" in the name there a special syntax or is that just the naming convention of the developers. Finally inside the class NSObject we have the following #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface NSObject (ObjectiveResource) // Response Formats typedef enum { XmlResponse = 0, JSONResponse, } ORSResponseFormat; // Resource configuration + (NSString *)getRemoteSite; + (void)setRemoteSite:(NSString*)siteURL; + (NSString *)getRemoteUser; + (void)setRemoteUser:(NSString *)user; + (NSString *)getRemotePassword; + (void)setRemotePassword:(NSString *)password; + (SEL)getRemoteParseDataMethod; + (void)setRemoteParseDataMethod:(SEL)parseMethod; + (SEL) getRemoteSerializeMethod; + (void) setRemoteSerializeMethod:(SEL)serializeMethod; + (NSString *)getRemoteProtocolExtension; + (void)setRemoteProtocolExtension:(NSString *)protocolExtension; + (void)setRemoteResponseType:(ORSResponseFormat) format; + (ORSResponseFormat)getRemoteResponseType; // Finders + (NSArray *)findAllRemote; + (NSArray *)findAllRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; + (id)findRemote:(NSString *)elementId; + (id)findRemote:(NSString *)elementId withResponse:(NSError **)aError; // URL construction accessors + (NSString *)getRemoteElementName; + (NSString *)getRemoteCollectionName; + (NSString *)getRemoteElementPath:(NSString *)elementId; + (NSString *)getRemoteCollectionPath; + (NSString *)getRemoteCollectionPathWithParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters; + (NSString *)populateRemotePath:(NSString *)path withParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters; // Instance-specific methods - (id)getRemoteId; - (void)setRemoteId:(id)orsId; - (NSString *)getRemoteClassIdName; - (BOOL)createRemote; - (BOOL)createRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)createRemoteWithParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters; - (BOOL)createRemoteWithParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters andResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)destroyRemote; - (BOOL)destroyRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)updateRemote; - (BOOL)updateRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)saveRemote; - (BOOL)saveRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)createRemoteAtPath:(NSString *)path withResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)updateRemoteAtPath:(NSString *)path withResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)destroyRemoteAtPath:(NSString *)path withResponse:(NSError **)aError; // Instance helpers for getting at commonly used class-level values - (NSString *)getRemoteCollectionPath; - (NSString *)convertToRemoteExpectedType; //Equality test for remote enabled objects based on class name and remote id - (BOOL)isEqualToRemote:(id)anObject; - (NSUInteger)hashForRemote; @end What is the "ObjectiveResource" in the () mean for NSObject? What is that telling Xcode and the compiler about what is happening..? After that things look normal to me as they have various static and instance methods. I know that by doing this all user classes that inherit from NSObject now have all the extra methods for this project. My question is what is the parenthesis are doing after the NSObject. Is that referencing a header file, or is that letting the compiler know that this class is being over ridden. Thanks again and my apologies ahead of time if this is a dumb question but just trying to learn what I lack.

  • Audio looping in Objective-C/iPhone

    - by Neurofluxation
So, I'm finishing up an iPhone App. I have the following code in place to play the file: while(![player isPlaying]) { totalSoundDuration = soundDuration + 0.5; //Gives a half second break between sounds sleep(totalSoundDuration); //Don't play next sound until the previous sound has finished [player play]; //Play sound NSLog(@" \n Sound Finished Playing \n"); //Output to console } For some reason, the sound plays once then the code loops and it outputs the following: Sound Finished Playing Sound Finished Playing Sound Finished Playing etc... This just repeats forever, I don't suppose any of you lovely people can fathom what could be the boggle? Cheers!

  • Objective C / iPhone comparing 2 CLLocations /GPS coordinates help

    - by user289503
Ok , so thanks to Claus Broch I made some progress with comparing two GPS locations. I need to be able to say "IF currentlocation IS EQUAL TO (any GPS position from a list ) THEN do something My code at the moment is : CLLocationCoordinate2D bonusOne; bonusOne.latitude = 37.331689; bonusOne.longitude = -122.030731; Which is the simulators GPS location at Infinite Loop CLLocation *loc1 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:bonusOne.latitude longitude:bonusOne.longitude]; double distance = [loc1 getDistanceFrom:newLocation]; if(distance <= 10000000) { Then do something } Any number under 10000000 and it assumes that there is no match. Any ideas ? Thanks is advance.

  • objective-c Add to/Edit .plist file

    - by Dave
Does writeToFile:atomically, add data to an existing .plist? Is it possible to modify a value in a .plist ? SHould the app be recompiled to take effect the change? I have a custom .plist list in my app. The structure is as below: <array> <dict> <key>Title</key> <string>MyTitle</string> <key>Measurement</key> <dict> <key>prop1</key> <real>28.86392</real> <key>prop2</key> <real>75.12451</real> </dict> <key>Distance</key> <dict> <key>prop3</key> <real>37.49229</real> <key>prop4</key> <real>58.64502</real> </dict> </dict> </array> The array tag holds multiple items with same structure. I need to add items to the existing .plist. Is that possible? I can write a UIView to do just that, if so. *EDIT - OK, I just tried to writetofile hoping it would atleast overwrite if not add to it. Strangely, the following code selects different path while reading and writing. NSString *rootPath = [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0]; The .plist file is in my project. I can read from it. When I write to it, it is creating a .plist file and saving it in my /users/.../library/! Does this make sense to anyone?

  • strchr in objective C?

    - by Brian Postow
I'm trying to write the equivalent of strchr, but with NSStrings... I've currently got this: Boolean nsstrchr(NSString* s, char c) { NSString *tmps = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%c", c]; NSCharacterSet *cSet = [NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString: tmps]; NSRange rg = [s rangeOfCharacterFromSet: cSet]; return rg.location != NSNotFound; } This seems needlessly complex... Is there a way to do this (preferably, one that doesn't involve turning the NSString into a cstring which doubles the run time, or writing it myself using characterAtIndex:... Am I missing some obvious method in the NSString description?

  • Representing Objective C Protocols on UML class diagrams

    - by joec
How should i correctly reference protocols on a UML class diagram? For example my ListViewController conforms to the UITableViewDataSource and UITableViewDelegate protocols... where do i put the cellForRowAtIndexPath or numberOfRowsInSection methods? ... in ListViewController where they are implemented or in something like this: <<Protocol>> UITableViewDataSource --------------------- --------------------- -numberOfRowsInSection If i did the latter what would be the association between the ListViewController class and the protocol box be? All i have to show is how i hook into Cocoa Touch some how. Thanks.

  • Objective-C I can access self.view but not self.view.frame

    - by user292896
I can access and show self.view and see the frame in the log but when I try to access self.view.frame I get null. Below is the log output of NSLog(@"Show self.view:%@",self.view); NSLog(@"Show self.view.frame:%@",self.view.frame); - 2010-03-28 11:08:43.373 vivmed_CD_Tab[20356:207] Show self.view:<UITableView: 0x4001600; frame = (0 0; 320 583); clipsToBounds = YES; autoresize = W+H; layer = <CALayer: 0x3b21270>> 2010-03-28 11:08:43.373 vivmed_CD_Tab[20356:207] Show self.view.frame:(null) Can anyone explain why self.view.frame is null but self.view shows a frame? May Goal is to change the frame size. Cheers, Grant

  • Sorting NSSets of a core data entity - Objective-c

    - by ncohen
Hi everyone, I would like to sort the data of a core data NSSet (I know we can do it only with arrays but let me explain...). I have an entity user who has a relationship to-many with the entity recipe. A recipe has the attributes name and id. I would like to get the data such that: Code: NSArray *id = [[user.recipes valueForKey:@"identity"] allObjects]; NSArray *name = [[user.recipes valueForKey:@"name"] allObjects]; if I take the object at index 1 in both arrays, they correspond to the same recipe... Thanks

  • Objective C: Create arrays from first array based on value

    - by Nic Hubbard
I have an array of strings that are comma separated such as: Steve Jobs,12,CA Fake Name,21,CA Test Name,22,CA Bill Gates,44,WA Bill Nye,21,OR I have those values in an NSScanner object so that I can loop through the values and get each comma seperated value using objectAtIndex. So, what I would like to do, is group the array items into new arrays, based on a value, in this case, State. So, from those, I need to loop through, checking which state they are in, and push those into a new array, one array per state. CA Array: Steve Jobs,12,CA Fake Name,21,CA Test Name,22,CA WA Array: Bill Gates,44,WA OR Array: Bill Nye,21,OR So in the end, I would have 3 new arrays, one for each state. Also, if there were additional states used in the first array, those should have new arrays created also. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Google Reader API with Objective-C - Problem getting token

    - by JustinXXVII
I am able to successfully get the SID (SessionID) for my Google Reader account. In order to obtain the feed and do other operations inside Google Reader, you have to obtain an authorization token. I'm having trouble doing this. Can someone shed some light? //Create a cookie to append to the GET request NSDictionary *cookieDictionary = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:@"SID",@"NSHTTPCookieName",self.sessionID,@"NSHTTPCookieValue",@".google.com",@"NSHTTPCookieDomain",@"/",@"NSHTTPCookiePath",@"NSHTTPCookieExpires",@"160000000000",nil]; NSHTTPCookie *authCookie = [NSHTTPCookie cookieWithProperties:cookieDictionary]; //The URL to obtain the Token from NSURL *tokenURL = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.google.com/reader/api/0/token"]; NSMutableURLRequest *tokenRequest = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:tokenURL]; //Not sure if this is right: add cookie to array, extract the headers from the cookie inside the array...? [tokenRequest setAllHTTPHeaderFields:[NSHTTPCookie requestHeaderFieldsWithCookies:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:authCookie, nil]]]; //This gives me an Error 403 Forbidden in the didReceiveResponse of the delegate [NSURLConnection connectionWithRequest:tokenRequest delegate:self]; I get a 403 Forbidden error as the response from Google. I'm probably not doing it right. I set the dictionary values according to the documentation for NSHTTPCookie.

  • Objective-C: fetchManagedObjectsForEntity problem

    - by Meko
Hi.I am trying to get value from CoreData entity name Person with predicate and then comparing with new data in dictionary. But it it returns every time 0 .And it creates about 5 person with same name. NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"userName == %@",[flickr usernameForUserID:@"owner"]]; peopleList = (NSMutableArray *)[flickr fetchManagedObjectsForEntity:@"Person" withPredicate:predicate]; NSEnumerator *enumerator = [peopleList objectEnumerator]; Person *person; BOOL exists = FALSE; while (person = [enumerator nextObject]) { NSLog(@" Person is: %@ ", person.userName); NSLog(@"Person ID IS %@",person.userID); NSLog(@"Dict ID is %@",[dict objectForKey:@"owner"]); if([person.userID isEqualToString:[dict objectForKey:@"owner"]]) { exists = TRUE; NSLog(@"-- Person Exists : %@--", person.userName); [newPhoto setPerson:person]; } } Here peopleList returns 0 and the enumerator also 0 and it does not use if and not comparing. In my entity I have Person and Photo entities. In Person I have userName and userID attributes and also one-to many relationship with Photo entity. I think problem in predicate but i cant figure out it .

  • How to create a typed stack using Objective-C

    - by Xetius
I can create a stack class quite easily, using push and pop accessor methods to an NSArray, however. I can make this generic to take any NSObject derived class, however, I want to store only a specific class in this stack. Ideally I want to create something similar to Java's typed lists (List or List) so that I can only store that type in the stack. I can create a different class for each (ProjectStack or ItemStack), but this will lead to a more complicated file structure. Is there a way to do this to restrict the type of class I can add to a container to a specific, configurable type?

  • Objective-C memory leak in loading remote content

    - by Ican Zilb
I try to load a plist file from my server. I can think of 2 ways to do that, but for both Instruments says there's huge memory leak : NSData* plistData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]; and NSDictionary* updateDigest = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL URLWithString:updateURL] ]; The backtrace of the memory leak leads to __CFURLCache in CFNetwork and I am wondering if something can be done to fix the leak? Any other way to load a remote plist xml, without the memory leakage ? Thanks

  • Mingling C++ classes with Objective C classes

    - by Joey
I am using the iphone SDK and coding primarily in C++ while using parts of the SDK in obj-c. Is it possible to designate a C++ class in situations where an obj-c class is needed? For instance: 1) when setting delegates to obj-c objects. I cannot make a C++ class derive from a Delegate protocol so this and possibly other reasons prevent me from making my C++ class a delegate for various obj-c objects. What I do as a solution is create an obj-c adapter class that contains a ptr to the C++ class and is used as the delegate (notifying the C++ class when it is called). It feels cumbersome to write these every time I need to get delegate notifications to a C++ class. 2) when setting selectors This goes hand in hand with item 1. Say I want to set a callback to fire when something is done, like a button press or a setAnimationDidStopSelector in the UIView animation functionality. It would be nice to be able to designate a C++ function along with the relevant delegate for setAnimationDelegate. Well, I suspect this isn't readily possible, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to do it if it is, or on how to write such things more easily, I would love to hear them. Thanks.

  • Objective C display money format like Sensible Soccer

    - by worchyld
I'm wanting to display money like SWOS (or Sensible World of Soccer) used to. IE: Instead of: $10,000,000+ you got $10m, 10.5m, etc. Instead of: $1,000,000 you got $1m Instead of: $1,500,000 you got $1.5m It also worked for both large and smaller figures, say; 1k, 1.25k, 0.75k, 0.25k, etc. I'm wondering, is there a way to display money in a format that is similar to the way SWOS used to do it? Thanks.
