  • Trouble with data not saving with bindings and shared NSUserDefaults in IB

    I'm having a bit of a strange issue that I can't quite figure out. I'm somewhat of a n00b to Interface Builder. What I am trying to do seems like it should be simple, but it's not working for some reason. In interface builder I have a preferences window with a simple NSTextField. I have set the value binding to the Shared User Defaults Controller with the controller key "values" and model key "test". I build/run my app and open the preferences window, type some random value into said text field, close the window. Command-Q the app. Then in a shell i do a "defaults read com.xxx.yyy" for my app and the key and value are nowhere to be found. That being said, it seems like the next time I fire up the app and change the value it works but only if I switch focus off of the NSTextField before closing the window. In the documentation for NSUserDefaults it says that the shared controller saves values immediately, am I missing something stupid here? Thanks for any help.

  • Snow Leopard & LSUIElement -> application not activating properly, window not "active" despite being

    Hi, I'm running into a few problem with a background application that uses LSUIElement=1 to hide its dock item, menu bar and prevent it from appearing in the Command-Tab application switcher. It seems to be a Snow Leopard only problem. The application places an NSStatusItem in the menu bar and pops up a menu when clicked on. Selecting "Preferences..." should bring up an NSWindow with the preferences. The first thing that doesn't seem to work is that the Window does not get ordered in at the front, but appears behind all other application windows. I tried to fix this by calling [[NSApplication sharedApplication] activateIgnoringOtherApps: YES] but that didn't work. After a while I figured out that the menu is blocking the message to the run loop from being sent, so I wrote another method on the MainController and sent the message with a delay: [self performSelector:@selector(setFront:) withObject: [preferencesController window] afterDelay:1.0]; -(void)setFront: (id) theWindow { [[NSApplication sharedApplication]activateIgnoringOtherApps:YES]; [theWindow orderFrontRegardless]; [theWindow makeKeyWindow]; [[NSApplication sharedApplication] activateIgnoringOtherApps:YES]; } Note the send-every-possible-message-to-make-it-do-what-it-should-be-doing-approach. This works, kind-of, the window is brought to the front on top of all other windows from all apps, BUT most of the time it isn't active, meaning it's title bar is greyed out. Clicking on the title bar won't make the window active either. Clicking INSIDE of the window will make it active!? This all didn't seem to be a problem in Leopard; just calling activateIgnoringOtherApps and making the window key seemed to work just fine. In Snow Leopard there is a new API designed to replace LSUIElement that is supposed to emulate its behaviour: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/releasenotes/cocoa/appkit.html I've played around with that, but it's SL-only and I haven't been able to get LSUIElement being set. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Eclipse plugin installation/update issues

    I've installed the following Team repository plugins (along with it's dependencies) for Eclipse Helios (using Eclipse updater). MercurialEclipse 1.7.1 Subclipse 1.6.17 Subversive SVN All of these are the latest in Eclipse Marketplace. My problem is when I go to Eclipse "Preferences", under "Team" I only see CVS but under Eclipse Marketplace, I can see that these plugins are installed (it gives me an option to uninstall it). How do I configure my Team repositories to reflect under "Team" in Preferences? Also, there is an update for "Eclipse IDE for Java EE developers, but when I try to update it, the following error occurs: Cannot complete the install because of a conflicting dependency.     Hello! I'm trying to establish a Facebook application. I'm getting the following PHP notice randomly: Warning: fopen(http://api.facebook.com/restserver.php? … &v=1.0) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request in D:\projects........\facebookapi_php5_restlib.php on line 3391 As said, it happens randomly. My app configuration: IFrame Page host configuration: Windows Vista, Apache 2.2.11, PHP 5.1 No support for cURL is possible at the moment. My aim: Get the user's first name & pic_square along with two other preferences. If these two preferences are not set then I'll set them, after doing some internal job. I understand that the REST API is old. Which interface should I use then? Saw FQL, which seem to be fine, but I see no corresponding getUserPreference/setUserPreference interface. Where is it? How do I combine it with the "first name & pic_square" info that I need in one query? How do I read the results of multi-query query? Also, if I understand correctly, the FQL is also executed with the fopen() function, and as we see here it might fail. That means something went wrong, and then I want to handle it. Any suggestions how to do so efficiently? Less important than the above question though. Thank you all.

  • Can't disable method parenthesis auto-complete in Eclipse

    I'm trying to disable the automatic closing of brackets in Eclipse, and while I've mostly succeeded, I can't stop the editor from inserting a closing parenthesis for a method call. The result is that when I type: myBool.equals(true); it inserts a closing parenthesis as soon as I type the opening parenthesis, and what I actually get is: myBool.equals(true);) I've disabled all of the auto-complete options in the Preferences - Java - Editor - Typing menu, as well as Preferences - Java - Editor - Content Assist - Fill method arguments and show guessed arguments. I also disabled the smart insert mode option under the Edit menu. Is there another option somewhere else I need to use to stop Eclipse from doing this? This is with Eclipse 3.5.2 (Build ID M20100211-1343) in case it matters. Edited to add: I should also mention that this only happens if I wait for the "intellisense" pop-up with suggested method names to appear after I type the period. If I just continuously type the code without waiting for the suggestion box to appear, the closing parenthesis doesn't get inserted.

  • restrict documents for mapreduce with mongoid

    I implemented the pearson product correlation via map / reduce / finalize. The missing part is to restrict the documents (representing users) to be processed via a filter query. For a simple query like mapreduce(mapper, reducer, :finalize => finalizer, :query => { :name => 'Bernd' }) I get this to work. But my filter criteria is a little bit more complicated: I have one set of preferences which need to have at least one common element and another set of preferences which may not have a common element. In a later step I also want to restrict this to documents (users) within a certain geographical distance. Currently I have this code working in my map function, but I would prefer to separate this into either query params as supported by mongoid or a javascript function. All my attempts to solve this failed since the code is either ignored or raises an error. I did a couple of tests. A regular find like User.where(:name.in => ['Arno', 'Bernd', 'Claudia']) works and returns #<Mongoid::Criteria:0x00000101f0ea40 @selector={:name=>{"$in"=>["Arno", "Bernd", "Claudia"]}}, @options={}, @klass=User, @documents=[]> Trying the same with mapreduce User.collection. mapreduce(mapper, reducer, :finalize => finalizer, :query => { :name.in => ['Arno', 'Bernd', 'Claudia'] }) fails with `serialize': keys must be strings or symbols (TypeError) in bson-1.1.5 The intermediate query parameter looks like this :query=>{#<Mongoid::Criterion::Complex:0x00000101a209e8 @key=:name, @operator="in">=>["Arno", "Bernd", "Claudia"]} and at least @operator looks a bit weird to me. I'm also uncertain if the class name can be omitted. BTW - I'm using mongodb 1.6.5-x86_64, and the mongoid 2.0.0.beta.20, mongo 1.1.5 and bson 1.1.5 gems on MacOS. What am I doing wrong?   • Unable to create a breakpoint in Eclipse and Tomcat

    Since yesterday, I get a strange error message when I start my Tomcat (6.0.35) under Eclipse Juno (build 20120614-1722): Among the things I tried in order to get rid of the error: Check in Preferences - Java - Compiler if all "Classfile Generation" checkboxes where checked. I did that for both general preferences and project preference Uncheck them, build, check them build again (found on another question) Add org.eclipse.jdt.core.compiler.debug.lineNumber=generate to my .settings/org.eclipse.jdt.core.prefs file Use a new CVS checkout (same symptoms) And now, I don't know what to do anymore. The problem is really stopping me from get anything done. I can't work anymore. Crazy is: the problem doesn't happen on every class, only on some of them. Neither does it happen on my other Eclipse projects. And it didn't happen before yesterday, even if I can't remeber having done anything weird. Actually, I have never seen a problem like this in almost 10 years I'm using Eclipse... If you have any idea, I would be really grateful... Edit: I also tried to ignore the message and go on with my tests: If I create another breakpoint upstream from my problematic class, when I enter this problematic class, it tries to open a $Proxy132 class, which means it actually opens an empty page, with a source not found message

  • Outgoing Emails (Git Patches) Blocked by Windows Live

    Just recently I dove into the VideoLAN open source project. This was my first time using git, and when sending in my first patch (using git send-email --to [email protected] patches), I was sent the following message from my computer's local mail in the terminal (I'm on OSX 10.6 by the way): Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. We generally do not accept email from dynamic IP's as they are not typically used to deliver unauthenticated SMTP e-mail to an Internet mail server. http:/www.spamhaus.org maintains lists of dynamic and residential IP addresses. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit http://postmaster.live.com for email delivery information and support They must think I'm a spammer. I have a dynamic IP and my ISP (Charter) won't let me get a static one, so I tried editing git preferences: git config --global user.email "[email protected]" to my gmail account. However I got the exact same message again. My guess is that it has something to do with the native mail's preferences, but I have no idea how to access them or modify them. Anybody have any ideas for solving this? Thanks!

  • How can I get HTML to link to a browser (or system) specified URL?

    Hi All, I'd like to be able to create a "HTML link" that the user can click on and be taken to an URL (location) specified either in the browser (preferences?) or system environment. Is this possible? Any suggestions on how to do it please? For example, it may look something like this (or alternatively it could be a clickable image or even a submit button): "Click here to go to your preferred news site." When the user clicks on "here" the browser would go to a location specified not in the HTML but somehow in the browser (preferences?) or some system environment variable (OS specific etc.) Of course, the user would have to set up this preference or environment variable (or have some local application or better Web page that could set it - when approved by the user). This is sort of like most OS these days allow you to set "preferred app" for image processing or playing media. I would like to set preferred Web sites for certain tasks. Thanks for any suggestions.   • Is there an efficient algorithm to distribute resources in a way that both avoids conflict and allows bias?

    Background (Skip this if you only care about the algorithm) At the university where I work, one of the biggest hassles in our department is classroom scheduling. For illustration purposes and to lay out the scope of the problem, here's how we do scheduling now: Professors give us a list of the classes they're teaching with the time slots they'd prefer to teach, ranked in order of priority (most desired to least desired). Administration gives us a list of the rooms we may assign along with the times those rooms are available for our department's use. We start assigning professors to rooms trying (at first) to take into account the preferences of the various professors. Inevitably, conflicts arise, professors start asking for changes, and the plan falls to pieces somewhere around professor number 30, at which point we start assigning rooms basically wherever we can fit them in, crumpled pieces of paper are everywhere, and nobody's happy. (If you've ever wondered why your class was at 9.30 in the morning on Thursday but 4 pm every other day, now you know) I have been asked to quietly investigate whether software could do this more optimally. The Actual Question Is there an algorithm to efficiently schedule a set of resources such that the following criteria are met: The algorithm must never assign two professors to the same room at the same time. The task is not complete until every professor has been assigned a room / time. The algorithm need not worry about having too many professors for the amount of time slots available. (We're not that well funded.) As much as is possible the algorithm should respect the scheduling preferences of the individual professors. I feel like I can't be the first one to ask this. Is there a efficient algorithm for this, or is this the sort of problem that can only be brute-forced?

  • Detecting modifier keys held down during startup in OS/X (or Windows)?

    I've searched here and not found any question that really covers this. I have a cross-platform Windows-OS/X application in which I'd like to be able to detect whether modifier keys like shift or control are being held down while the application starts up. We'd like to do this to allow the application to start up without reading its preferences file, in case that somehow gets corrupted (we saw in testing a prefs bug, now fixed, that made the window size 0 by 0, for example). We're using the excellent and comprehensive cross-platform C++ library named Juce. Unfortunately, Juce's master tells me that he believes this is impossible on OS/X at least since you only get keyboard events and there is no way to read the state of the keys unless something changes. Is this true? Or is there some way around this? I'm almost sure I've used Mac programs that used this mechanism to bypass their preferences. Or... stepping up one level... is there another solution to providing the functionality of "run the program but don't read the prefs file" other than "holding a key down while launching the program"? This is consumer software so we can't expect too much from the user. The final solution will end up being a cross-platform one so hints on the Windows side will also be appreciated. Even for an empty class which simply extends an NSObject has many options, most of which seem completely useless. What is the reason for having so many auto-complete options, or can they be "tamed" in the preferences?

  • Remapping the Windows key in Parallels

    I'm running XP on Parallels 4 for Mac, and it's working well enough, however one thing that's bothering me more and more as I go along is the way it constantly assumes every press of the command key means I want the start menu to come up. I've tried to remap it in the Parallels preferences, but all that does is allow me to create additional ways to call the start menu. Is there a setting either within XP or somewhere outside that I can set to discourage this behavior?

    I can not run the Terminal.app after rolling back my system from time machine. Mac OS X Version 10.6.2 It displays the following error. "Your are not authorized to run this application" "The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value" After that I have deleted the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist But the same message is displayed. I have repaired all system rights with the DiskUtility but that did not help.

Is it possible to define only the allowed hosts in any way? PS: I know FoxyProxy add-on for Firefox does this, but 1)I don't use Firefox and 2)I want the proxy settings system wide not only for browser.

  • Why does only "network" appear in Startup Disks on my Mac?

    I have a Linux dual boot setup with my Mac (with Leopard). When I open System Preferences Startup Disk I only see "Network Startup" and no HDD or BOOTCAMP as expected. So now, annoyingly, because "Network Startup" is the only option, it tries to start using the network (the flashing globe) for a short while rather than booting directly into Mac OS X. Is there a way to either fix Startup Disk or manually hack this?

I have tried TightVNC, TigerVNC, UltraVNC and RealVNC , but right now I can't figure out which one is the best (any of these I listed or any other) in terms of what I worried about right now (speed/consumption/config/licensing). What are your best choices?
