  • Equivalent to Android's Toast or Mac OSX Growl in Java Swing?

    Hi all, Looking for a means of displaying transient, non-modal dialogs in a Swing application. In other words, I'd like to pop up a semi-transparent box with some text in it that can be immediately dismissed, or will fade away in a set amount of time. Is there a library to do this?     im building a forum and now im gonna code the thread page. is there any open source thread script to use that resembles stackoverflow:s thread page with the actual thread, the replies and the comments? one which you could customize? i bet a lot of users have created such scripts, would be great to not having to reinvent the wheel. or is it a lot easier to code it yourself?

  • Reliable way to get the "ancestor" of an object with a specific classname, using jQuery

    I've got a javascript function that gets called on change event of a select form element. So, the "this" variable in js refers to the select element. This select element is in a td tag, in a tr tag. The tr tag has a classname of "FilterDetailsRow". Now, I've tested, and if I use this syntax: var filterRow = $(this).parent().parent(); it gets me what I want. However, is there a better way to tell jQuery, "starting with "this" can you please go up my tree of parents until you find one with a classname of "FilterDetailsRow"? Here's what I came up with, but I want to make sure I"m not reinventing the wheel. function GetFilterDetailsRowOfObject(o) { if (o) { if (o.parent()[0].className.indexOf("FilterDetailsRow") != -1) return o; else return GetFilterDetailsRowOfObject(o.parent()); } else { return null; } } Thanks for any advice.

  • flash with recaptcha or any other captcha solution

    Hello there, I have been looking over the internet for a while about this, but it doesn't seem like there is any information available specifically related to captcah and flash. My purpose is to create an image up-loader on flash, and implement "recaptcha" on it, so the upload is controlled. I know that some people will say, "well you can't automatize flash input so you don't need captcha in this situation" even though this is somewhat true, there is still screen macro programs that could potentially make the computer upload hundreds of pictures if there is not something in place to avoid it. I thought of implementing my own captcha but that seems to me like i would be reinventing the wheel, can anyone point me on the right track for this? or suggest another approach to avoid abuse on my image up-loader flash?

  • PHP Compare Two Arrays?

    I'm trying to compare two entries in a database, so when a user makes a change, I can fetch both database entries and compare them to see what the user changed, so I would have an output similar to: User changed $fieldName from $originalValue to $newValue I've looked into this and came accross array_diff but it doesn't give me the output format I need. Before I go ahead and write a function that does this, and returns it as a nice $mtextFormatDifferenceString, can anyone point me in the direction of a solution that already does this? I don't want to re-invent the wheel..

Besides that Nutch is of course a very robust package but seems a bit too advanced for my needs. I only need to crawl a handful websites a week containing a couple of 1000 pages each. Which open source Java library would you recommend considering: speed multithreading (or even distributed) extending it with new functionality active maintained and documentation?

  • JavaScript + Maths: Image zoom with CSS3 Transforms, How to set Origin? (with example)

    My Math skills really suck! I'm trying to implement an image zoom effect, a bit like how the Zoom works with Google Maps, but with a grid of fix position images. I've uploaded an example of what I have so far here: http://www.dominicpettifer.co.uk/Files/MosaicZoom.html (uses CSS3 transforms so only works with Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari) Use your mouse wheel to zoom in/out. The HTML source is basically an outer div with an inner-div, and that inner-div contains 16 images arranged using absolute position. It's going to be a Photo Mosaic basically. I've got the zoom bit working using CSS3 transforms: $(this).find('div').css('-moz-transform', 'scale(' + scale + ')'); ...however, I'm relying on the mouse X/Y position on the outer div to zoom in on where the mouse cursor is, similar to how Google Maps functions. The problem is that if you zoom right in on an image, move the cursor to the bottom/left corner and zoom again, instead of zooming to the bottom/left corner of the image, it zooms to the bottom/left of the entire mosaic. This has the effect of appearing to jump about the mosaic as you zoom in closer while moving the mouse around, even slightly. That's basically the problem, I want the zoom to work exactly like Google Maps where it zooms exactly to where your mouse cursor position is, but I can't get my head around the Maths to calculate the transform-origin: X/Y values correctly. Please help, been stuck on this for 3 days now.   • Is there any way to sync the scrollbars in a JavaFX 1.2 ListView?

    I have multiple listviews sidebyside. I have a way to make sure the "selectedIndex" is the same on all of them, but is there a way to make it so the scrollbar's are ALWAYS synchronized? It seems that the scrollbars WILL be synced as long as the user uses the ARROW KEYS when navigating down the listview, however, if the user HOLDS DOWN the key, OR USES THE MOUSE WHEEL, they will not be synchronized at all.   • PHP URL encoding retaining invalid url characters

    I need to replace url invalid characters with something url valid then convert it back again. This is for a search page with a url like http://my.site/search/this-is-a-search, the search form POSTS then the user redirected to the new url. Php has functions urlencode and urldecode however these do not work at all, and leave invalid characters in my url. Surely I don't need to reinvent the wheel here.

I can scroll up and down using the mouse wheel but i want to Use the mouse button to scroll up or down by dragging the scroll bar. if i use mouse button it moves the focus away from the text box field.   • Understanding run time code interpretation and execution

    I'm creating a game in XNA and was thinking of creating my own scripting language (extremely simple mind you). I know there's better ways to go about this (and that I'm reinventing the wheel), but I want the learning experience more than to be productive and fast. When confronted with code at run time, from what I understand, the usual approach is to parse into a machine code or byte code or something else that is actually executable and then execute that, right? But, for instance, when Chrome first came out they said their JavaScript engine was fast because it compiles the JavaScript into machine code. This implies other engines weren't compiling into machine code. I'd prefer not compiling to a lower language, so are there any known modern techniques for parsing and executing code without compiling to low level? Perhaps something like parsing the code into some sort of tree, branching through the tree, and comparing each symbol and calling some function that handles that symbol? (Wild guessing and stabbing in the dark)

  • Using read() directly into a C++ std:vector

    I'm wrapping up user space linux socket functionality in some C++ for an embedded system (yes, this is probably reinventing the wheel again). I want to offer a read and write implementation using a vector. Doing the write is pretty easy, I can just pass &myvec[0] and avoid unnecessary copying. I'd like to do the same and read directly into a vector, rather than reading into a char buffer then copying all that into a newly created vector. Now, I know how much data I want to read, and I can allocate appropriately (vec.reserve). I can also read into &myvec[0], though this is probably a VERY BAD IDEA. Obviously doing this doesn't allow myvec.size to return anything sensible. Is there any way of doing this that 1) Doesn't completely feel yucky from a safety/C++ perspective and 2) Doesn't involve two copies of the data block - once from kernel to user space and once from a C char * style buffer into a C++ vector. Any thoughts collective?

  • HTTPS with Self-Signed Certificate Issues... Solution or better way?

    All I need to do is download some basic text-based and image files from a web server that has a self-signed SSL certificate. I have been trying to figure out how to use HttpClient to do this, but getting the SSL to work is a nightmare that seems to be way too much trouble for such a simple task. Is there a better way to perform these file downloads? Perhaps through a WebView or Browser feature? Reinventing the wheel of making a simple HTTPS GET request is a major pain, and is significantly holding up my development schedule. ** Updated title to more accurately reflect question / solution **

  • Converting BMPs to avi

    I want to convert folders with video-frames in bitmaps into avi or mpeg files. I already have a VBScript which does a lot of stuff on those files, so it would be neat to integrate a functionallity to convert those folders automatically from my script. I can only find solutions that seem pretty low level and unfortunatley I don't know a whole lot about video file formats. What is the easiest approach to achieve that without reinventing the wheel? My problem is that there is seem to be so much information that I am not sure where to start.

  • Generating report from an xml file

    I want to generate a report from an xml, preferably html. The html here should be dynamic to allow limiting the view based on some user entered values, preferably selecting from a drop down of categories, which inturn is populated from the xml. I also want to have links in the report to more info which is stored in another xml file. I started off with javascript with xslt for display and I'm still long way in acheiving my desires.   • how to send an array of bytes over a TCP connection (java programming)

    Can somebody demonstrate how to send an array of bytes over a TCP connection from a sender program to a receiver program in Java. (I'm new to Java programming, and can't seem to find an example of how to do this that shows both ends of the connection (sender and receiver.)
