Any good articles out there comparing Oracle vs SQL Server vs MySql in terms of performance?
I'd like to know things like:
INSERT performance
SELECT performance
Scalability under heavy load
Based on some real examples in order to gain a better understanding about the different RDBMS.
Hello,
I am trying to grasp this nosql thing since it sounds good for scalability.
Can you help me understand how a digg-like model would be structured efficiently ?
where are the users
where are the articles
where are the notations
..
Thanks

Oracle recently released a Berkeley DB back-end to SQLite. I happen to have a hundreds-of-megabytes SQLite database that could very well benefit from "improved performance, concurrency, scalability, and reliability", but Oracle's site appears to lack any measurements of the improvements. Has anyone here done some benchmarking?
Hi,
Meaning the C10K problem, what is the best way to do asynch I/O on Mac OS X (assume to use on Mac and iPhone/iPad)?
On Linux our choice is epoll, on Windows is I/O Completion Ports.
Top priority is performance and scalability (thousands of connections).
Thanks
Why would bitmap outperform vector?
My Flash is for a large Kiosk, with rich media requirements and must function accurately as a counter. I want to keep everything vector for scalability.
When I did a simple FPS test, I noticed my Bitmap version performed perfectly, and the all vector file was noticeably slower.

I'm about to adopt MongoDB for a new project and I've chosen it for flexibility, not scalability. From the documentation and web posts I keep reading that all indexes are in RAM. This just isn't making sense to me as my indexes will easily be larger than the amount of available RAM.
Can anyone share some insight on the index/RAM relationship…
What the main differences between SQL Reporting Services 2005 and 2008 in terms of features? I read about 2008 has much better in scalability. How about the features? What's in SSRS 2008 but not 2005? Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I have the following input:
input = [(dog, dog, cat, mouse), (cat, ruby, python, mouse)]
and trying to have the following output:
outputlist = [[0, 0, 1, 2], [1, 3, 4, 2]]
outputmapping = {0:dog, 1:cat, 2:mouse, 3:ruby, 4:python, 5:mouse}
Any tips on how to handle given with scalability in mind (var input can get really…
Which language would you propose for solving a system with:
first order differential equations
complex variables
N-dimensions
using 4th order Runge Kutta or the like.
Speed matters a lot but would sacrifice for:

Hi all,
I am working on i-Phone app targeting 3.1.3 and later SDK. I want to know the best way to store user's long term data on i-phone without losing performance, consistency and security.
I know, that i can use Core Data, PList and SQL-Lite for storing user specific data in custom formats. But, want to know which one is good to use…
Hi,
I want to know if there is any open source testing tool for cloud computing. We have built a cloud framework with Xen, Eucalyptus, Hadoop, HBase as different layers. I am not looking at testing each of these tools separately, but i want to test them from the perspective of fitting into a cloud environment (for example scalability…
hi...does anyone know the "best" Ubuntu version to choose for a VPS host? i'm after stability and scalability. Slicehost offers Hardy, Intrepid, Jaunty and Kramic. any ideas?
Is there an easy way to setup an environment on one machine (or a VM) with MySQL replication? I would like to put together a proof of concept of MySQL replication with one Master write instance and two slave instances for reads.
I can see doing it across 2 or 3 VMs running on my computer, but that would really bog down my system. I'd…
Here's the scenario:
Many users access an application (running on tomcat), the user's data is segmented into multiple databases, say each db containing 1000 user's data.
Now is it somehow possible to have 100s of tomcat servers running on 'inexpensive' PC class machines with each connecting to a single db, with user's session…
Hi,
I'm starting a site which relies heavily on search. While it's probably going to search basic meta data in the beginning, it might grow to something bigger in the future.
So which DB/DB Engine is best in your opinion when it comes to search performance and future scalability?
Appreciate your help
It is very difficult for me to design the database because it requires a lot of recursion. I really can't use XML because it is just not practical for scalability and the amount of data I need to store. Do you guys know of a database that can be used to store hierarchical data?
Does anyone know of any node.js style webserver framework for java?
I realized that having nonblocking callback behavior while handling a web request will require deep support at the webserver level. I am interested in node.js, but when I have a web server that ends up persisting data, I would like to take advantage of the…
Having understood some of the advantages that NoSQL offers (scalability, availability, etc.), I am still not clear why a website would want to use a non-relational database.
Can I get some help on this, preferably with an example?
Dear friends,
I'm trying to set up a small full functional website for a small community on a shared hosting. Scientific computing is quite heavy. Scalability is not important. The only criterion is performance. Which framework would you suggest among the following:(or more) from your list)
1)Ruby on Rails
2) Grails…
I am working in Train Traffic Controller software project.
My responsibility in this project is to develop the visual railroad GUI.
By now I am using some svg graphics in that GUI.
I prefer them because of their scalability talents.
Is it good or bad idea to use svg in a desktop application?
Any suggestions?
