  • How to setup NX server and client?

    I installed NX server on my desktop and able to run it successfully following this tutorial: http://michigantelephone.wordpress.com/2007/10/15/how-to-install-nx-server-and-client-under-ubuntukubuntu-linux/ When i run the command sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver –status I am seeing the following output : NX 900 Connecting to server .. NX 110 NX Server is running. NX 999 Bye. It means i have setup NX server correctly.. But on other machine when i open NX client it is asking for hostname..what name should i give there? Every tutorial is explaining about how to install and start NX server but not about how to connect to the server from client.. Could you guys please help me? Thanks in Advance Deter

  • Jupiter seems to break multimonitor setup

    If Jupiter is in the startup my multimonitor setup will fail. Instead of two separate desktops the monitors will be mirrored, one over the other with the smaller notebook-desktop in the larger screen: After each new log-in I have to reset the Display settings in the "System Settings..." dialogue to two not mirrored screens, the changes don't seem to be saved. Given the the entry from xsession-errors /usr/lib/jupiter/scripts/resolutions: line 42: /var/jupiter/available_resolutions_LVDS: Permission denied I assumed that it's coming from Jupiter. Infact, if Jupiter is removed as startup application the desktop settings are fine. Any idea how to solve that issue?

  • Flaws in my PHP development setup - sharing sources causing lags

    I have following development setup for my PHP projects: Working station running on Windows 7 with PhpStorm IDE. GIT for version controlling. CentOS on virtual machine (VirtualBox) with Apache and MySQL (copy of production server). So far, I've been sharing project's source folders between host and guest systems and it was working quite well only really slow. The reason behind this is that Apache was reading files from remote folder (mounted locally). After doing some research, I found out that this set up can be improved by using disk mapping (Samba) instead of folder sharing. So I did that change. I configured my PhpStorm to automatically deploy files to mapped drive. Everything works like a charm now, except for one problem - when I change branches I need to synchronize project's local folder with the one on mapped drive and that takes time, a lot of time (like branching in SVN). Is there another way to handle this than just working on files directly on mapped drive?

My cron job looks like this. 30 7 * * fri /etc/cron.weekly/mysqlbackup.sh Which should execute at 7:30AM every Friday... What am I doing wrong? UPDATE1 - change the cron job line to the following: 44 8 * * 5 /etc/cron.weekly/mysqlbackup.sh with still no luck...is there a cron error log file that I can read to help pin point where the problem is?

    I own the domain zenstealth.com and I have decided that the easiest way for me to "do" a blog is via GitHub pages and Jekyll, which is already built-in in GitHub pages. I've done that already, and for now I've already setup a CNAME record so that my GitHub pages repo zenstealth.github.com redirects to blog.zenstealth.com. What I want to do is instead of using a sub-domain for the blog, I'd like to make it use the top level domain zenstealth.com. The GitHub Pages instructions say to the set an A record to the ip 207.97.227.245. The problem in NearlyFreeSpeech.NET (let's call it NFSN for short) is that it already already sets A records to files which are hosted directly in NFSN, and I have absolutely no idea on how to override this.

    I need to configure a machine so software installation can be automated remotely via SSH. Following the wiki, I was able to setup SSH keys so my user can access the machine without a password, but I still need to manually enter my password when I use sudo, which obviously an automated process shouldn't have to do. Although my /etc/ssh/sshd_config has PermitRootLogin yes, I can't seem to be able to login as root, presumably because it's not a "real" account with a separate password. How do I configure SSH keys, so a process can remotely login as root on Ubuntu?

  • Trying to setup a gateway via pppoe

    I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a computer. I want to use this computer as a router for my other computers. The computer only has 1 network card, there is no slot for a second card. I can get the computer to connect to my ISP via pppoe and it can access the web. However the other computers on my local net can only see the router computer. I have tried 2 different pppoe packages, roaring penguin and network-manager-gnome. When I get it to work I will be replacing a 15 year old computer that is running Slackware 7.1. The old computer is currently my router. It is running Roaring Penguin I tried to setup the new computer with the same Roaring Penguin parameters as the old computer. Bob

Some of what i came up with are Bug tracking Some good (distributed:P) source control (which means no svn fellas) automated nightly builds or a continuous integration (or anything that automates builds and possibly sends emails when there are build errors) wiki to document decisions, road map or milestones. Something to backup assets (art, sound, etc) What else? and do you have suggestions for any of the above? i pretty much clueless of all of these except for source control

    I'm about to launch a site on a live server, after developing it with xampp on localhost. I first want to test the site before i make it live. How do i setup this up so I have it in a subdomain (i.e. test.livesite.com)? Is it just set it up on the server and only add the cname dns setting? Or is there a better way? All i am trying to do is add my site to the server, so i can edit it and look at it before I set it as live.

  • Four monitor setup with two Nvidia graphics cards

    I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and I have two nVidia quadro 2000 video cards, each with two monitors plugged in (all 4 monitors are identical). Now I have the latest nVidia drivers, and I'm trying to use the nVidia control panel to use all four monitors, and I can't get it to work. Currently, my configuration is using TwinView to have 2 monitors per X screen. This doesn't work well because either i turn xinerama on, and nothing appears on the screen when I start a X session with Compiz enabled. Things only work in Ubuntu 2D. i turn xinerama off, and compiz works, but now, I cant drag windows between the two screens and i have no idea how to start applications in the other screen. Is there a better way to configure my four monitor setup? Is there a way to get both GPUs onto a single X screen?

    I have a laptop with Windows XP and Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bits). Until now, I used Windows XP to connect to a Juniper VPN but now I'd like to try it with Linux. I read the mad scientist walkthrough (including the sun java part) but I can't run the setup. I get the popup that ask me if I'm sure I want to run the applet but then, nothing. mad-scientist says it's probably a C runtime lib problem and suggests to use his script with -nojava but he doesn't say how to install Network Connect in the first place.     I had follow this link to setup my first virtual host with apache2 under ubuntu 12.x. Looks easy but is not working. [How to][1] My internal dns can resolv the name, but my browsers is not showing me my webpage. from my lan, Im using ubuntu server no GUI. Every time I point to my virtual host name, I receive apache default page, I cannot see my custom page.     I have a media server running ubuntu 12.04 and I want it setup so that any PC on the network (windows etc) has complete access to all files, folders etc with read, write, edit, copy to, copy from permissions. No need for security (IE no password or user name, just select it on the network and start editing). I have samba installed and personal file sharing is enabled but my windows PC cannot see it on the network. I already set up another server as I described but unfortunately I can't remember how or where I found the guides for it. Any on know of a guide that covers what I want?

  • Can Windows-Security-SPP block execution of .exe?

    We're seeing a strange situation, where some executables won't run from a Windows command prompt (running as admin). Just running the command (say, filename.exe) gives no response on the console. No errors, no output, nothing. If we copy over the same Windows .exe from a different folder, it "magically" starts working, and we see the default console output. (Happens both on Win7 x64, and Win2008R2 x64. Application is running as 32-bit process.) At the time when it accesses the .exe, I can see events in the application and system logs regarding Windows-Security-SPP, and it makes me believe that the .exe is being blocked from execution. Does this sound familiar?

    I have logged in just now so I couldn't edit the previous question I have asked, Sorry :) my last question is The requested URL /PHP/php-cgi.exe/a.php was not found on this server I have installed on Windows7 apache2.2 and php5.3 when I am trying to execute the *.php file I am getting an error: 404 Not Found "The requested URL /PHP/php-cgi.exe/a.php was not found on this server" This is my httpd configuration file From httpd.conf: ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/cgi-bin/" ScriptAlias /php/ "C:/PHP/" AddType application/x-httpd-php .php Action application/x-httpd-php "C:/PHP/php-cgi.exe" DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs" I can execute perl scripts that resides in "C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/cgi-bin/" however execution of php scripts results with an error: "The requested URL /PHP/php-cgi.exe/a.php was not found on this server".
