  • Windows XP Disappearing Folders

    I am researching a problem for a friend, and unfortunatly do not have direct access to his computer. I've tried to gather as much information as possible and I have researched it on various websites. I've not found anyone having the same problem my friend is having. So here goes: He has a media server in his home running Microsoft Windows XP. It has 3 drives, 1 for the OS and 2 for mass storage. Not long ago he went to access one of the mass storage media drives and it was empty, except for a single folder. His first assumption was that his roommate had deleted everything on the drive (excluding the remaining folder). He then checked the properties of the drive and it was still saying that the hard drive was nearly full. I told him to check the recycling bin, thinking that whoever deleted them didn't clear them from recycling and that they were still taking up space on the drive. My friend said the recycling bin was empty. So we have a drive that the windows file management system says is empty (again except for the remaining folder), but the properties of the drive say it's mostly full. Now it gets weirder My friend tried to create a new folder on this drive and it auto-named itself "New Folder(1)" which means that it recognizes there is already a "New Folder" in that directory. He tried to rename it to a name that he KNEW was there previsouly, and windows wouldn't allow it because it was a duplicate folder name. SO now it seems the folders are there, but not displaying in Windows Explorer. Both of us have no idea why this is occuring, why the folders vanished, why the one remaining folder didn't vanish, or how to make them visable again. Anyone else ever experience this? I can get more details if needed.

    My client had me deploy some folders out to a bunch of home directories for his customer websites. I did this with a Bash script, but it ended up using the root account permissions. How do I make a Bash script that takes each folder under /home/user (not hidden files or folders), gets the user and group ownership of that folder, and then does a chown -R {user}.{group} /home/user? The servers are running CentOS Linux.

    I'm using the jQuery validate() plugin for some forms and it goes great. The only thing is that I have an input field that requires a special validation process. Here is how it goes: The jQuery validate plugin is called in the domready for all the required fields. Here is an example for an input: <li> <label for="nome">Nome completo*</label> <input name="nome" type="text" id="nome" class="required"/> </li> And here is how I call my special function: <li> <span id="sprytextfield1"> <label for="cpf">CPF* (xxxxxxxxxxx)</label> <input name="cpf" type="text" id="cpf" maxlength="15" class="required" /> <span class="textfieldInvalidFormatMsg">CPF Inv&aacute;lido.</span> </span> </li> And at the bottom of the file I call the Spry function: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var sprytextfield1 = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfield1","cpf"); //--> </script> Of course I call the Spry CSS and JavaScript files in the head section as well as my special-validate.js. When I just use the jQuery validate() plugin and click on the send button, the page goes automatically back to the first mistaken input field and shows the error type (not a number, not a valid email etc.). But with this new function, this "going-back-to-the-first-mistake" feature doesn't work, of course, because the validate() function sees it all good. I already added a rule for another form (about pictures upload) and it goes like this: $("#commentForm").validate({ rules: { foto34: { required: true, accept: "jpg|png|gif" } } }); Now my question is, how can I add the special validation function as a rule of the whole validation process?   • Samba smb.conf read only and read/write accounts

    Below you can see my smb.conf, pieter is my admin user read/write on the shares works good with that account. Then I have a leecher account that has been added with smbpasswd -a leecher to the smb users, it is set up so this user only has read access to the shares. This works on MegaSam and on Thumbnails but not on my other drives, leecher does not get any access on the other shares.   • Mac host and Ubuntu guest on virtual box shared folder issue

    I have set up ubuntu server on virtual box on my mac. I created a shared folder which appears to be saved and visible in the configuration section on virtual box for the ubuntu server machine. My only issue is I don't know where this is or how to access it from inside ubuntu server. Does it get it's own directory or do I have to create some sort of a sym-link? If I do need to manually tell it to look in the mac for the file how do I reference the mac machine?

    I tried to create a shared folder to my Ubuntu 12.04.3 VM using VMware 5 from my Mac but I don't see the folder anywhere. I've tried to use some commands as suggested here and here, but nothing is still showing... I just get the error: Error: cannot canonicalize mount point: No such file or directory So I make the folder I'm trying to mount to or just try to mount directly to my home folder and get this error now: Error: cannot mount filesystem: No such device Any help is appreciated.

    I don't know how to make the title any more clear. Let me give an example - When I want to add an image to an article on my blog, I click "Browse" button in the image uploader, and then upload the image to the blog. The problem is, when I want to upload another image to my blog, I want the browser to look into the same directory; but it's always takes me to the "Recently Used" directory. Is there a way to change this? I hope I have made myself clear enough. EDIT: I only use Chrome, so I am referring to it.

    Through the normal processes I enter my shared music folder on my Windows computer, i.e.: Places Network Windows pc Music. After rebooting my Ubuntu laptop, however, this connection isn't automatically set again. My question: How do I get Ubuntu to automatically connect to that shared folder after login (while first checking whether the Windows computer is 'online')? This because I added the folder to the Banshee Library, and I currently first have to go to the shared folder manually before Banshee can play the files.

    I use VMware Fusion under Mac, and I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 as virtual machine. Under Ubuntu, by "shared folder", I used to manage a common folder with Mac via /mnt/hgfs/myfolder. Under Windows, I have set up so that this folder is also accessible. But today I cann't find myfolder anymore under /mnt/hgfs in Ubuntu, while it is still accessible via Windows (and Mac of cause). I tried to restart the machine, reset the sharing settings, it still does not work. Could anyone help?

    I am new to Linux, and I've trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (dual boot with Windows XP). I choose to add new partition (FAT32 150 GB) for the shared folder. But when I pressed the install button, the installer warned me : Failed to create the 150 GB shared partition. So I turned back to the partition section and changed the shared partition to 50GB FAT32 (/mnt/shared). I pressed the install button and I was successful. But, when I boot Ubuntu, I could not find this 50GB folder. QUESTIONS: 1. What is wrong with the 150GB size? Is my hard disk failing? 2. Why is the 50GB shared folder not showing?     HI all, This is what i'm trying to do. I have a .bat file which takes in a argument which is nothing but a folder name. What i do first is go one level up (cd ..). Now in this directory i have 3 folders and each folders have sub-folders and have .class files in them. What i want to do is recursively loop through the folders and get hold of the .class files. Once this is done i want to echo the target folder of the .class file as well as echo the name of the.class file. So c:\temp\potter\myclass.class. I would echo out c:\temp\potter\ and myclass. I'm able to do this by writing a separate bat file which works. But when i integrate this with the recursive function it seems to break.   • JavaScript automatically converts some special characters

    I need to extract a HTML-Substring with JS which is position dependent. I store special characters HTML-encoded. For example: HTML <div id="test"><p>l&ouml;sen &amp; gr&uuml;&szlig;en</p></div>? Text lösen & grüßen My problem lies in the JS-part, for example when I try to extract the fragment lö, which has the HTML-dependent starting position of 3 and the end position of 9 inside the <div> block. JS seems to convert some special characters internally so that the count from 3 to 9 is wrongly interpreted as "lösen " and not "l&ouml;". Other special characters like the &amp; are not affected by this. So my question is, if someone knows why JS is behaving in that way? Characters like &auml; or &ouml; are being converted while characters like &amp; or &nbsp; are plain. Is there any possibility to avoid this conversion? I've set up a fiddle to demonstrate this: JSFiddle Thanks for any help! EDIT: Maybe I've explained it a bit confusing, sorry for that. What I want is the HTML: <p>l&ouml;sen &amp; gr&uuml;&szlig;en</p> . Every special character should be unconverted, except the HTML-Tags. Like in the HTML above. But JS converts the &ouml; or &uuml; into ö or ü automatically, what I need to avoid.

  • Dovecot, IMAP outlook reports error 0x800CCC0E cannot synchronize subscribed folders

    I have recently some issues with people using my email server. They have problems with synchronizing folders on outlook, and I can't figure out what to do. I found somewhere that I could extend a setting for imap connections: mail_max_userip_connections = 20 which didn't really help, I was thinking about extending timeout of connection or something, but really can find anything like that.     Hi Running Windows Server 2008, 74GB raptor drive and noticed we only had about 500MB left - yikes! So deleted some old backups we don't need, but can't track down where about 30GB seems to be taken up. If I go to C: and select all folders and go to properties, this comes to around 30GB but in My Computer I can see 65GB is used. How can I find out whats eating the space? Just IIS + MSSQL Express + Smartermail on the server

  • GPO IE Favorites Adds Unwanted Folders

    I created a AD 2003 GPO to add a couple of the company's links to everyone's IE. I have the following: Checked: Place Favorites and Links at the Top of the List... Unchecked: Everything else Then: Favorites |-Company Link One |-Company Link Two Links However, the GPO seems to add Favorites Bar, Microsoft Websites, MSN Websites, and Windows Live folders. If they are deleted it seems to make them come back. Anyone know how to fix this?

    I want to archive all .ctl files in a folder, recursively. tar -cf ctlfiles.tar `find /home/db -name "*.ctl" -print` The error message : tar: Removing leading `/' from member names tar: /home/db/dunn/j: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: 74.ctl: Cannot stat: No such file or directory I have these files: /home/db/dunn/j 74.ctl and j 75. Notice the extra space. What if the files have other special characters? How do I archive these files recursively?
