  • How do I word my url so that it doesn't get blocked or appear spammy

    - by user18681
I'm creating a fairly large site. Will my links appear spammy if I use the same word as in the pathfile in the url? For example: www.example.com/apples/great-apple-recipes www.example.com/apples/fresh-apple-pie www.example.com/apples/delicious-apple-turnovers I do not want my link to appear spammy. But is it ok if the keyword is almost always the same as in the pathfile on a huge site? Does the pathfile count as part of the keyword? Also, how many words in total should a url (including pathfile etc...) be?

  • How to optimise the url for search engines?

    - by phpheini
I have a php template which has one index.php and all the different pages (content1.html, content2.html etc) are shown on the index.phppage. So for example I can open www.example.com/index.php?content1 and it will show the content1.html. Now what I would like is this: Often you see websites where the url is like: www.example.com/this-is-the-content I know how to do this with an exclamation mark like www.example.com/?content1 <-- here you just dont write the index.php. But how can I do an url name, which is completely different from the filename? For example www.example.com/this-is-some-page would show me the content of index.php?content1

  • Will URL encoding the image names

    - by TheGateKeeper
Just wondering if it makes any difference to Google whether or not I URL encode the image names when linking to them. For example if I have an image named "test-1234-!.jpg", does it make a difference if I name it refer to it as "test-1234-%21.jpg"? The reason I am asking is because I am doing a major shift in the way my website works and while all new image names will not be URL encoded, all of the past ones are. I want to see if it is worth it renaming all of them or if I should just leave it like that.

  • Log Location Url Responses of 301 redirects from IIS

    - by James Lawruk
Is there a way to log 301 redirects returned by IIS with the (1) request Url and the (2) location Url of the response? Something like this: Url, Location /about-us, /about /old-page, /new-page The IIS logs contain the Request Url and the status code (301), but not the location Url of the response. Ideally there would be an additional field in the IIS Log called Location that would be populated when IIS responded with a 301. In my case the source of the redirect could be ISAPI Rewrite Rules, ASP.NET applications, Cold Fusion applications, or IIS itself. Perhaps there is a way to log IIS response data? Thanks for your help.

  • URLRewriter.net fails relative paths when using more than one substring in URL

    - by Andreas Strandfelt
Hi. I have installed the URLRewriter on my server, and it works fine, but I have a rather big problem. Relative links in hyperlinks, CSS-links, images etc. doesn't work when I have URLs with more than one substring. E.g. (sorry, no http:// in front, as I do not have enough reputation): dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft leads to the path dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Workers.aspx and works just fine. But dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft/Midtjylland leads to dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Workers.aspx?Region=Midtjylland using this line in the Web.config: <rewrite url="~/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft/(.+)" to="~/Workers.aspx?Region=$1"/> It rewrites just fine, but my relative links doesn't work anymore. CSS, Images, links and so on thinks my root is now http://dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft, which of course doesn't exist. Can't this be fixed? All my links are correctly set using the ~/, like this: <asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink3" CssClass="black_text" NavigateUrl="~/Forgot-Password" runat="server">I have forgotten my password</asp:HyperLink>

  • Apache Rewrite & Alias combined

    - by Larry
Hello, We have run into an issue where we have an existing Alias, and we would like to add a rewrite rule to catch all variations of case-insensitive spellings, ie: URL: http://www.example.com/example Alias /example "/var/www/html/web/example" We need a rewrite rule to catch: /ExamPle /exampLE /eXAmple etc ... If anyone could help, that would be great! We cannot seem to get the rewrite & Alias to work together. Thanks and God Bless!

  • Performance impact of rewrite conditions?

    - by makeee
My web framework (cakephp) uses the following rewrite conditions and rule: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L] I serve up a lot of image files (~10 a second). I'm wondering if it would improve performance to have a rewrite rule that exempted requests for files in my images directory from even trying those rewrite conditions (checking whether the file exists). My traffic is constantly fluctuating, so this would be hard to benchmark, which is why I thought I'd ask here. If that would be beneficial, how might I exclude files in "/images" directory from trying those conditions and rewrite rule?

  • Nginx rewrite rule for Zimbra

    - by Yusuf
I'm trying to write a rewrite rule for Zimbra, which will allow me to use a hostname to access the Zimbra Desktop Web UI instead of the IP address and port. The default Zimbra URLs are like this: http://127.0.0.1:port/?at=long-encrypted-user-id http://127.0.0.1:port/zimbra/?at=long-encrypted-user-id http://127.0.0.1:port/desktop/login.jsp?at=long-encrypted-user-id Here's what I have till now: server { server_name hostname; location / { proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:port/; } } This only replaces http://hostname by http://127.0.0.1:port in the background; Where I'm stuck is adding the ?at=long-encrypted-user-id to the URLs. Can somebody help?

  • Apache rewrite rules not causes a download dialog of the PHP file

    - by Shaihi
I have Apache 2.2.17 using the WAMPServer 2.1 installation. I am debugging a website fully local on my computer. I have the following rule in the .htaccess: # Use PHP5 Single php.ini as default AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5s .php Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on Rewritebase / RewriteRule ^bella/(.*)/(.*)$ beauty.php?beauty_id=$1 [L] RewriteRule ^(argentina|brasil|chile|colombia|espana|mexico|rep_dominicana|uruguay|venezuela|peru|bolivia|cuba|ecuador|panama|paraguay|puerto_rico)/$ country.php?name=$1 [L] RewriteRule ^(argentina|brasil|chile|colombia|espana|mexico|rep_dominicana|uruguay|venezuela|peru|bolivia|cuba|ecuador|panama|paraguay|puerto_rico)/(hi5|facebook|twitter|orkut)/$ socialnetw.php?country=$1&category=$2 [L] The problem When I enable this rule and try to access http://localhost/index.php using FF I get a download dialog for the PHP file. If I comment the Rewrite* part in the .htaccess file then the index.php file loads fine, but navigation in the page is broken...

  • mod rewrite help

    - by Benny B
Ok, I don't know regex very well so I used a generator to help me make a simple mod_rewrite that works. Here's my full URL https://www.huttonchase.com/prodDetails.php?id_prd=683 For testing to make sure I CAN use this, I used this: RewriteRule prodDetails/(.*)/$ /prodDetails.php?id_prd=$1 So I can use the URL http://www.huttonchase.com/prodDetails/683/ If you click it, it works but it completely messes up the relative paths. There are a few work-arounds but I want something a little different. https://www.huttonchase.com/prod_683_stainless-steel-flask I want it to see that 'prod' is going to tell it which rule it's matching, 683 is the product number that I'm looking up in the database, and I want it to just IGNORE the last part, it's there only for SEO and to make the link mean something to customers. I'm told that this should work, but it's not: RewriteRule ^prod_([^-]*)_([^-]*)$ /prodDetails.php?id_prd=$1 [L] Once I get the first one to work I'll write one for Categories: https://www.huttonchase.com/cat_11_drinkware And database driven text pages: https://www.huttonchase.com/page_44_terms-of-service BTW, I can flip around my use of dash and underscore if need be. Also, is it better to end the URLs with a slash or without? Thanks!

  • How to avoid index.php in Zend Framework route using Nginx rewrite

    - by Adam Benayoun
    I am trying to get rid of index.php from the default Zend Framework route. I think it should be corrected at the server level and not on the application. (Correct me if I am wrong, but I think doing it on the server side is more efficient). I run Nginx 0.7.1 and php-fpm 5.3.3 This is my nginx configuration server { listen *:80; server_name domain; root /path/to/http; index index.php; client_max_body_size 30m; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$args; } location /min { try_files $uri $uri/ /min/index.php?q=; } location /blog { try_files $uri $uri/ /blog/index.php; } location /apc { try_files $uri $uri/ /apc.php$args; } location ~ \.php { include /usr/local/etc/nginx/conf.d/params/fastcgi_params_local; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; fastcgi_param PATH_INFO $fastcgi_script_name; fastcgi_param SERVER_NAME $http_host; fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; } location ~* ^.+\.(ht|svn)$ { deny all; } # Static files location location ~* ^.+\.(jpg|jpeg|gif|png|ico|css|zip|tgz|gz|rar|bz2|doc|xls|exe|pdf|ppt|txt|tar|mid|midi|wav|bmp|rtf|js)$ { expires max; } } Basically www.domain.com/index.php/path/to/url and www.domain.com/path/to/url serves the same content. I'd like to fix this using nginx rewrite. Any help will be appreciated.

  • I am trying to rewrite a few links with htaccess

  • Apache rewrite rule to remove index.php and direct certain areas to https

    - by Stephen Martin
I have a codeignitor application running on Apache2, I have managed to remove the index.php from the urls with this .htaccess RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule .* index.php/$0 [PT,L] now I want to make certain parts of the site redirect to https, I tried this: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule .* index.php/$0 [PT,L] RewriteRule ^/?cpanel/(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}/cpanel/$1 [R,L] RewriteRule ^/?login/(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}/cpanel/$1 [R,L] But it doesn't work. I have to say when it comes to Apache rewrites im a noob. I can't find any tutorials on how to remove index.php and rewrite/redirect certain parts of the site to https. Any ideas, Thanks.

  • Helicon ISAPI Rewrite Proxy 500 Internal Server Error

    - by Rob Stevenson-Leggett
Hi, I have a website running at www.domain.com. The client now wants the website to appear to be running under www.otherdomain.com/whatson/brand/ Since the website is umbraco it won't run under a subfolder. I wanted to use ISAPI rewrite to proxy requests to www.domain.com using the following rule in a .htaccess at www.otherdomain.com/whatson/brand/ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [P,L] However, when I apply this I get an ugly 500 Internal Server Error. There's nothing in the event log. So I turned on ISAPI logging and can see the following 111.111.111.111 111.111.111.111 Tue, 12-Jan-2010 13:05:24 GMT [www.otherdomain.com/sid#2045305275][rid#26337200/initial] (2) init rewrite engine with requested uri /whatson/brand/home.aspx Then it testing all the other rewrite rules on the server. Then this 111.111.111.111 111.111.111.111 Tue, 12-Jan-2010 13:05:24 GMT [www.otherdomain.com/sid#2045305275][rid#26337200/initial] (1) Htaccess process request w:\websites\otherdomain.com\docs2\whatson\brand\.htaccess 111.111.111.111 111.111.111.111 Tue, 12-Jan-2010 13:05:24 GMT [www.otherdomain.com/sid#2045305275][rid#26337200/initial] (3) applying pattern '^(.*)$' to uri 'home.aspx' 111.111.111.111 111.111.111.111 Tue, 12-Jan-2010 13:05:24 GMT [www.otherdomain.com/sid#2045305275][rid#26337200/initial] (2) forcing proxy-throughput with http://www.domain.com/home.aspx 111.111.111.111 111.111.111.111 Tue, 12-Jan-2010 13:05:24 GMT [www.otherdomain.com/sid#2045305275][rid#26337200/initial] (1) go-ahead with proxy request http://www.domain.com/home.aspx [OK] 111.111.111.111 111.111.111.111 Tue, 12-Jan-2010 13:05:24 GMT [www.otherdomain.com/sid#2045305275][rid#26337200/initial] (2) rewrite 'home.aspx' -> '/whatson/brand/home.aspxx.rwhlp?p=0' 111.111.111.111 111.111.111.111 Tue, 12-Jan-2010 13:05:24 GMT [www.otherdomain.com/sid#2045305275][rid#26337200/initial] (2) internal redirect with /whatson/brand/home.aspxx.rwhlp?p=0 [INTERNAL REDIRECT] So it appears to work according to the logs, but I'm not seeing the page come through.. It's worth noting that www.domain.com and www.otherdomain.com are on the same box. LogLevel is 3 and RewriteLogLevel is 3 (I've tried with 9 and debug but there is too much traffic going through the other sites on the box) Any ideas?

  • How to handle existing indexed Mixed Case url's?

    - by marcusstarnes
I have an asp.net web forms application that has been live for a number of years and as such has quite a lot of indexed content on google. Ideally, I'd prefer that all Url's for the website are in lowercase but I understand that having 2 versions of the same content indexed in search engines (MixedCase.aspx and mixedcase.aspx) will be bad for seo. I was wondering: a) Should I just leave everything in its current Mixed Case form and never change it? OR b) I can change the code so everything is in lowercase from here on in, BUT, is there a way of doing this so as the search engines are aware of this change and don't penalise me?

  • ASP.net MVC support for URL's with hyphens

    - by John
Is there an easy way to get the MvcRouteHandler to convert all hyphens in the action and controller sections of an incoming URL to underscores as hyphens are not supported in method or class names. This would be so that I could support such structures as sample.com/test-page/edit-details mapping to Action edit_details and Controller test_pagecontroller while continuing to use MapRoute method. I understand I can specify an action name attribute and support hyphens in controller names which out manually adding routes to achieve this however I am looking for an automated way so save errors when adding new controllers and actions.

  • How to handle URLs with diacritic characters

    - by user359650
I am wondering how to handle URLs which correspond to strings containing diacritic (á, u, ´...). I believe what we're seeing mostly are URLs where diacritic characters where converted to their closest ASCII equivalent, for instance Rånades på Skyttis i Ö-vik converted to ranades-pa-skyttis-i-o-vik. However depending on the corresponding language, such conversion might be incorrect. For instance in German, ü should be converted to ue and not just u, as seen with the below URL representing the Bayern München string as bayern-muenchen: http://www.bundesliga.de/en/liga/clubs/fc-bayern-muenchen/index.php However what I've also noticed, is that browsers can render non-ASCII characters when they are percent-encoded in the URL, which is the approach Wikipedia has chosen, for instance http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Bayern_M%C3%BCnchen which is rendered as: Therefore I'm considering the following approach for creating URL slugs: -(1) convert strings while replacing non-ASCII characters to their recommended ASCII representation: Bayern München - bayern-muenchen -(2) also convert strings to percent encoding: Bayern München - bayern_m%C3%BCnchen -create a 301 redirect from version (1) to version (2) Version (1) URLs could be used for marketing purposes (e.g. mywebsite.com/bayern-muenchen) but the URLs that would end being displayed in the browser bar would be version (2) URLs (e.g. mywebsite.com/bayern-münchen). Can you foresee particular problems with this approach? (Wikipedia is not doing it and I wonder why, apart from the fact that they don't need to market their URLs)

  • URL-rewriting on Plesk using ISAPI_rewrite3 Lite

    - by Anusha
I am using Plesk Windows based web server with Windows 2008 server OS with IIS-6 for my e-commerce website. I want to rewrite URLs for all dynamic pages, So I installed ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Lite on my web server also I had uploaded the .htaccess file with the basic rules as follows RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^contact\.html$ contactus.php? [NC,R] I never worked before with ISAPI neither on URL- rewriting. My doubt is How should I proceed after installation. Should I upload .htaccess or httpd.conf file OR This s/w has ISAPI_Rewrite Manager which gives place to edit httpd.conf, Should I write rules on this. Anyways I had tried all these steps but unfortunately I couldn't find any remedies. Any immediate solution will be appreciable.
