• Wirelss card not being detected in backtrack 5

  I just installed backtrack 5 and I am unable to detect my wireless card. iwconfig doesn't list my interface. I can see that the hardware is present in lspci -vnn (see below) but I can't get the interface detected. I have tried to reinstall the compat-wireless package but I get errors during the build (see below) I have done a ton of researching and I keep hitting a brick wall, mostly because the wiki for backtrack is down and I can't find any good resources. Does anyone know how to fix the issue? Also, does anyone no how I can scan the hardware to determine what NIC is assigning my interface? If I can figure out the interface name I think I can set it up manually by putting up the link and using wireless-tools to manually configure the connection, this is what I had to do in arch on my mac. As stated the wiki for backtrack is down and I can't find any help on the issue. I tried to do the full kernel upgrade suggested in my software update but after the update was complete and I logged back in I had a new log in manager and the only thing I was able to log into was window managers. However, after this update my wireless was working fine. Please help I am new to Linux and the wiki is down, I have nowhere else to turn. Forgot to mention I am using the KDE version, not Gnome. • Are you supposed to type '6' with the left hand or the right hand?

  A few weeks ago, I did a Google Images search for keyboard finger charts to see which fingers I'm supposed to be using to type which keys. According to the charts, '6' is supposed to be typed with the right hand: (as shown on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typing) However, today I spotted a split keyboard in a store with the '6' on the left side of the split. Indeed, an image search for split keyboards indicates that this is the norm: (as shown on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Natural_keyboard) When doing touch typing "correctly", should I go with the finger charts (type 6 with my right hand), or should I go with the split keyboards (type 6 with my left hand)? <troll> Is this just another example of Microsoft not following the standards? </troll>

• Double try_files to solve the nginx's "No input file specified" issue

  I am following the nginx's wiki (http://wiki.nginx.org/WordPress) to setup my wordpress location / { try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$args; } By using the above lines, when a static file which is not found it will redirect to index.php of wordpress, that is okay but.. Problem: When I request an non-existence php script, e.g. http://www.example.com/foo.php, nginx will give me No input file specified I want nginx to return 404 instead of the above message, so in the main fcgi config, I add the 2nd try_files location ~ \.php$ { try_files $uri =404; fastcgi_split_path_info ^(.+\.php)(/.+)$; include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params; ... } And this worked, but I am looking if there are any better way to handle it?

  I just added this to my web.xml on my JBOSS server. But it had no effect. I am still allowed to connect to ports that do not use bi-directional certificate exchange. • Event receiver on Content Type not triggered on WikiPageLibrary

  Hello all, I created a new content type for a wiki page library. I added this content type to library by code (the interface did not allow this). Next, I added an event receiver to this content type (on ItemAdded and ItemAdding). My problem is that no event is trrigered. If I add this events directly to the wiki page library all works fine. Is there a limitation/bug/trick ? • Common Mercator Projection formulas for Google Maps not working correctly

  I am building a Tile Overlay server for Google maps in C#, and have found a few different code examples for calculating Y from Latitude. After getting them to work in general, I started to notice certain cases where the overlays were not lining up properly. To test this, I made a test harness to compare Google Map's Mercator LatToY conversion against the formulas I found online. As you can see below, they do not match in certain cases. Case #1 Zoomed Out: The problem is most evident when zoomed out. Up close, the problem is barely visible. Case #2 Point Proximity to Top & Bottom of viewing bounds: The problem is worse in the middle of the viewing bounds, and gets better towards the edges. This behavior can negate the behavior of Case #1 The Test: I created a google maps page to display red lines using the Google Map API's built in Mercator conversion, and overlay this with an image using the reference code for doing Mercator conversion. These conversions are represented as black lines. Compare the difference. The Results: Check out the top-most and bottom-most lines: The problem gets visually larger but numerically smaller as you zoom in: And it all but disappears at closer zoom levels, regardless of screen orientation. • What is JavaScript, really?

  All this started when I was looking for a way to test my webpage for JavaScript conformance like the W3C HTML Validator. I have not found one yet. So let me know if you know of any... I looked for the official JavaScript page and find ECMA Script. These people have standardized a scripting language (I do not feel like calling it JavaScript anymore!) and called it ECMA-262 (Wikipedia). Their latest work is Edition 5.1 JavaScript was developed my Mozilla Corporation and their last stable version is 1.8.5 (see this) which is based on the ECMA's edition 5.1 The Wikipedia page linked mentions dialects. Mozilla's JavaScript 1.8.5 is listed as a dialect along with JScript 9 (IE) and JavaScript (Chrome's V8[Wiki]) and a lot others. Am I to understand that JavaScript 1.8.5 is a derivative of the ECMA-262 and SpiderMonkey[Wiki] is an engine that runs it? And Chrome has its own dialect and V8 engine is the program that runs it? With all these dialects based off ECMA-262, what I can no longer understand is "What is JavaScript"? Are there any truly cross browser scripting languages? Do the various implementers come together to agree on the dialect cross compatibility? Is this effort ECMA?

  In my previous posts I discussed about Cruisecontrol.net and its legacy support to .Net development. Hudson  is yet another continuous integration tool. Hudson is also free like CCNet and built in java. - CCNet has its legacy support to .Net applications where as Hudson can be easily configured on both the environments (.Net and Java). - One of the major differences in CCNet and Hudson is the richer GUI of Hudson provide user interactive screens for project configuration where as in CCNet we have to play with a few xml configuration files. Both the tools are capable of providing basic features of continuous integration e.g.:- - Source Control configuration - Code Compilation/Build - Ad hoc plugin tools to be configured along with compilation Support for adhoc tools seems to be bigger with CCNet e.g. There are almost every source control plugin available with CCNet where as Hudson has support for limited source control servers. Basically there is an interseting point to see is that there are 2 major partsof whole CI system one performed by build tool and rest. Build tool takes care of all adhoc plugin tools  so no matter if CI tool does not have plugin for that tool if thet tools provides command line support that can be configured in build tool and that build tool is then configured with CI tool inturn. For example if I have a build script configured in MSBuild and CCNet can be easily switched to Hudson. Here we need not to change anything in build script we just need to configure MSBuild on Hudson and pass the path of script file and thats it... all is same. • Ubuntu 12.04, xbmc, opengl, intel motherboard

  I've got an HTPC that I built myself, with a Asus P5G41T-M Motherboard. It's got an on-board HDMI port, and I've been using that with no problems. I started out with Mythbuntu ( an older version ), and recently updated to 12.04.1 LTS without any issues. I've been thinking about trying out XBMC for a while, and I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, I seem to be running into quite a few issues. I got XBMC installed from the repos without any issues, but when I try to run it from a console, a box pops up with the following: XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering. Install an appropriate graphics driver. • Detect two specific objects collision with bullet physics

  I have got some problem with defining collision between objects in my game using bullet physics. I know that objects are colliding with each other simultaneously and I don't have to do anything more. However I need to be noticed when one object collides with one of the rest. It is quite awkward written so I will tell what I want to achive. I have got ball which hits wall from tubes. Everything is on the floor. When ball hits wall some fragments fall down to infinity. So I have got bellow floor btStaticPlaneShape. This is place where most of objects is stoping and then I can start another action. But not all of them. So I've been trying to use function checkCollideWith but it isn't good method as it was said in reference and wiki. This isn't good method either because it is extremly hard to identify what is what when colliding. You have to also remember that ball is almost all the time colliding with something - floor, wall or eart level. So is there any other method to check what is colliding with what?

  If you are active in forums or comment areas on different websites then you most likely use some type of special characters, HTML, or other code throughout the day. Now you can easily insert commonly used “items” with the SKeys extension for Firefox. Your New Special Text Edit Bar After installing the extension you will see the new toolbar that has been added to your browser. These are the kinds of text that can be added to online comment areas, forums, or other website areas that allow their use: Special characters HTML tags BB codes Wiki characters All that you will need to do is click on the appropriate special character or code to insert it into the website text area. The first two toolbar items are each singular in their function and insert the following types of text. A look at the special characters available for your use. The wiki code menu. The HTML menu… And the BB code menu. Here is a quick sample using the HTML menu…much better than doing it manually. This should definitely help speed things up throughout the day. Our only disappointment during testing was not being able to add additional items (i.e. characters, tags) to the toolbar at this time. Conclusion While a new toolbar may not be for everyone this extension can certainly prove useful when you need to quickly add special characters or coding in website text areas. • Why can't I run Compiz?

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my laptop. The main reason I switched to Ubuntu is because I wanted to use Compiz. The first thing I did was to go to Additional Drivers and install ATI/AMD Proprietary FGRLX Graphics Driver. There was also another one available, ATI/AMD Proprietary FGRLX Graphics Driver (post-release updates), but I didn't install that one, because it basically meant the same thing to me as the one I already installed. Next, I went to the ubuntuguide.org Oneiric Wiki http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Oneiric#Compiz_Fusion So I followed the instructions there and ran this command in terminal: sudo apt-get install compiz compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra emerald librsvg2-common But then, the terminal window said that the package "emerald" could not be found. So, I ran this command instead: sudo apt-get install compiz compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra After that, I installed Fusion Icon by running this command: sudo apt-get install fusion-icon I restarted my computer, searched for Compiz Config Settings Manager, and clicked on it. Then, I activated Wobbly Windows. I logged off and logged back on again, but there was no wobbly windows effect. So I tried clicking on Fusion Icon, but it never started. Can someone please tell me what I did wrong here? Because I see everyone seems to be able to run Compiz except me. I really need to start Compiz, or else I think I'm going to uninstall Ubuntu.
