  • WCF: 'Update Service Reference' hoses my files.

    Every time that I make a change to the contract of my WCF service, I need to have Visual Studio update the service references in all of my client projects. This process regenerates my client's app.config file and, since I have hand-tuned the "bindings" section of the file, I need to back-up my file and then restore it each time I have VS do the update. Is there a way to avoid this necessity (eg: have VS update the service reference without rewriting anything in app.config)? Thanks

You may be attempting to load an assembly build with a leter version of the CLR than the version under which NUnit is currently running. How do I force an executable to run under .NET 4 beta?

  • VS 2008 irritating copy constructor link dependency

    Hi guys, I've run into the following annoying and seemingly incorrect behaviour in the Visual Studio 2008 C++ compiler: Suppose I have a class library - Car.lib - that uses a "Car" class, with a header called "Car.h": class Car { public: void Drive() { Accelerate(); } void Accelerate(); }; What I'm actually trying to do is use the Car headers (for some other functions), but without having to link with Car.lib itself (the actual class is not called "Car" but I am sanitising this example). If I #include "Car.h" in the .cpp file used to build a managed C++ .dll, but never refer to Car, everything compiles and links fine. This is because I never instantiate a Car object. However, the following: namespace { class Car { public: Car(const Car& rhs) { Accelerate(); } void Accelerate(); }; } leaves me with the link error: Error 2 error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: void __thiscall `anonymous namespace'::Car::Accelerate(void)" (?Accelerate@Car@?A0xce3bb5ed@@$$FQAEXXZ) CREObjectWrapper.obj CREObjectBuilderWrapper Note I've declared the whole thing inside an anonymous namespace so there's no way that the Car functions could be exported from the .DLL in any case. Declaring the copy constructor out-of-line makes no difference. i.e. the following also fails to link: class Car { public: Car(const Car& rhs); void Accelerate(); }; Car::Car(const Car& rhs) { Accelerate(); } It's something specifically to do with the copy constructor note, because the following, for example, does link: class Car { public: Car() { Accelerate(); } void Accelerate(); }; I am not a C++ standards guru but this doesn't seem correct to me. Surely the compiler still should not have had to even generate any code that calls the Car copy constructor. Can anyone confirm if this behaviour is correct? It's been a while since I used C++ - but I don't think this used to be an issue with Visual Studio 6.0 for example. Can anyone suggest a workaround that allows one to "re-use" the Accelerate method from within the copy constructor and still have the copy constructor declared inline?

The only web project on this solution display the following message: .vbproj the project is not supported by this installation I try to open the web project separately from the solution and I not have problem. How I can open the web project from the solution existing solution and not open a empty solution? Any ideas?

  • Group SQL tables in SQL Server Management Studio object explorer

    I have a table which has approximately sixty tables, and other tables are added constantly. Each table is a part of a schema. A such quantity of tables makes it difficult to use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008. For example, I must scroll up in object explorer to access database related functions, or scroll down each time I need to access Views or Security features. Is it possible to group several tables to be able to expand or collapse them in Object Explorer? Maybe a folder may be displayed for each schema, letting collapse the folders I don't need to use?

  • Visual studio winform designer shows design errors as text rather than html

    All of the sudden, visual studio displays designer errors as plain html text, for example: <DIV id="div1" class="ErrorStyle" width="100%"><span style="font-weight: 600"><br>Object reference not set to an instance of an object. </span><br><a href="" instead of displaying the usual html formatted. I haven't been able to find anything similar to it on google. Before getting this problem, when I tried opening the winform designer, I would get the run/save/cancel dialog of internet explorer for a .tmp file, instead of the designer window. That went away when I found out that I had notepad assigned to the .tmp file type and removed that. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • VC++ libcurl .lib size

    I'm having an issue with the size of the .lib when I compile libcurl. It's 1.6 MB and the sample program they have is alround 300 KB. I downloaded the latest version (curl-7.20.0) and opened the project file from the lib directory in visual studio 2008. In the project properties I set /MT and compiled a release build. I even tried adding HTTP_ONLY to the processor which didn't seem to affect anything. What's going on?

    ok, so I ran into problems with Boost under visual studio 2010, so I decided to rebuild it with bjam: such as: bjam --toolset=msvc-10.0 --build-type=complete After running bjam (successfully?) it created a new directory under boost_1_42_0 called: bin.v2 Inside bin.v2 is directory called: libs. Two issues: 1. there's lot less libs under that new directory (about 13), the old directory libs has 88. Is it supposed to be like that or did something fail? 2. the structure is somewhat different too. What do I do with this exactly? Meaning, do I copy it over to the original libs, delete the old libs, try rebulding it with different flags?

  • Possible to use Python with Intel's Atom Developer SDK (C/C++)?

    So I've made a game in Python and PyGame. Now I'm interested in submitting the game to Intel's March Developer Challenge. However, the developer challenge requires use of Intel's Atom Developer SDK (http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/sdk), which only has API's for C and C++. I'm new to Python and PyGame, and have no experience in C or C++. My question is, would it be possible to somehow implement Intel's Atom SDK through/with/from a Python application (as the first link above suggests)? I've read up a little bit on embedding/extending Python into/with C, but I'm not entirely sure what to embed or where. I mean, I know I can do things like this in C: #include <Python.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { Py_Initialize(); PyRun_SimpleString("from time import time,ctime\n" "print 'Today is',ctime(time())\n"); Py_Finalize(); return 0; } But what do I do about all my dependencies on Python and Pygame, for people that don't have those installed on their machines? Normally Py2Exe takes care of compacting the required dependencies (I've managed to package my game into an exe/zip), but how do I take care of that stuff in the context of embedding within C? Can I somehow work with py2exe on this, or do I need to do something entirely different for embedding within C? It seems like it would be a lot easier to go the route of extending Python with the C validation code, rather than trying to embed my whole game within C, but I think that's not an option, "because the library provided is currently only available as a Visual Studio 2008 '.lib'", meaning the application has to be compiled with Visual Studio...? Any help, thoughts, or ideas are much appreciated!   • Compiling OpenSSL for boost asio for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010

    I compiled boost with bjam, and then I compiled OpenSSL. Both of them work separately. I set up the links in Visual Studio 10 to point to my OpenSSL library directory. But when I attempt to compile example boost ssl asio programs I get 44 unresolved external linker errors like this one: 1testing.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _SSLv23_server_method referenced in function "public: void __thiscall boost::asio::ssl::detail::openssl_context_service::create(struct ssl_ctx_st * &,enum boost::asio::ssl::context_base::method)" (?create@openssl_context_service@detail@ssl@asio@boost@@QAEXAAPAUssl_ctx_st@@W4method@context_base@345@@Z) Can you please give me step-by-step instructions on properly linking OpenSSL to boost?
