  • Cannot write DVDs anymore, but can read them and write CDs

    I'm stumped. I used to be able to write to DVDs and now I can't. I've tried different media (Memorex and Imations) I've tried different drives (internal and external) and even different OS's (Windows 7 and Linux Mint). Nothing I've done will work and it's a real problem not being able to burn DVD's. I'm on an Acer 6930 if that helps. Does anyone have any ideas?

    I have a Server running Ubuntu 10.10 Server-Edition kvm, and libvirt (both ubuntu-native packages) HDD-Partitioning was done with LVM. Then I created some VMs with Virt-Manager and assigned LVM-Volumes to the VMs. Now the VMs do not boot. Virt-Manager shows a CPU-Usage of 100% for this Guest and the VNC-Connection states Booting from Hard Disk The VM-specific logfiles do not show any abnormality only syslog shows a warning warning : qemudParsePCIDeviceStrs:1422 : Unexpected exit status '1', qemu probably failed What can I do to find the error?

  • Setting up Virtual Hosts with Apache on Windows 2008 server for multiple sites. Complicated setup, including subversion

    I am setting up apache on my windows 2008 server at my home. It will serve 2 functions. Subversion hosting to allow me and some others to manage company documents with version control Local website hosting for web development. Will need to run several websites since I generally work on more then one site at a time. Heres what I have done so far. I set up subversion and apache 2.2 using some walk troughs. I changed the default port to 1337. (im a nerd) Using dyndns.com I created a domain to forward to my home ip which is dynamic. ( company.gotdns.org) I then went into my DNS for my company.com and added a record to point repo.company.com to company.gotdns.org At this point people who need access to my file repository can access by going to repo.company.com/repo which is good so far. My question comes on the next step, setting up virtual hosts with apache. Ideally I would like to have my local website be viewable by some others in the company from their homes. So, say I am working on site1, I would like to have them be able to view this by going site1.roeland.bythepixel.com. At the same time, I would like to have site10.wouter.bythepixel.com go to his local setup for site10. What I have done for this: I went into my DNS for company.com and added a record to point roeland.company.com to company.gotdns.org (which translates to my ip). I added code to my httpd-vhosts.conf (listed at bottom) I added code to my host file (listed at bottom) Hah, so of course this doenst work as excepted.. going to site1.roeland.bythepixel.com doesnt bring up my test1 site. Could anyone point me where I may be going wrong?   • How to set local alias for a machine?

    I would like to set an alias on my local PC for a network machine. I know that it can be done by adding an entry in the hosts file as long as the IP address of the machine is also specified. However, the problem is that IPs are dynamically assigned by a DHCP server so I don't know for sure the IP address. Is there a way to define just an alias based on the machine's network name? P.S.: I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2.

    I have a virtual host in apache which is redirecting requests to another web server. <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www ServerName another.host ProxyPass / http://another.host2:8081/ ProxyPassReverse / http://another.host2:8081/ </VirtualHost> I need to exclude an URL pattern from being catch by this virtual host. Basically I don't want requests with the url: http://another.host:8081/~username to be forwarded to the other server. Can this be done?

    have a terminal server 2003 that about 50users can use, users are saving documents on the desktop, today users complain that documents on the desktop is missing, no upgrades or changes has been done the error is that the server reverted to load items the folder name "Desktop" instaed of using the local language "Skrivbord" (swedish for desktop) So the files are still on the server located under the users swedish folder name, but server does not load it, server however does load files located under the English folder name how can the terminal server from one day to another just change from where it loads the user profile desktop files?

  • Could one hypothetically upgrade a computer from Windows 95 to Windows 8

    Hypothetically, could you start with a computer running Windows 95, upgrade this to Windows 98, then upgrade this to Windows XP, then upgrade this to Vista, then to 7 and finally to 8 (consumer preview)? What state would the OS be in after so many upgrades? Would any of the native Windows 95 apps still be sticking around in Windows 8? Has anybody done anything like this before? I don't need to do this, I am just asking out of curiosity! Thanks

  • VNC connection via SSH proxy machine

    I would like to make a VNC connection from home to a Windows machine at work. The Windows machine is not accessible from the outside, but there is a Linux box that does have port 22 open, so it would seem that this can be done. I suspect it's just a command that "forwards" connections to port 22 on the Linux machine to the Windows machine? Just can't find an example that does exactly this though Thanks in advance!

    Hi, My Office 2007 consistently crashes when I use it while connected to the VPN. This happens even with local files. When I try to paste stuff, it tries to connect to the printer (over VPN) and if I stop the process (which in itself blocks for about a minute), then Word 2007 is bound to crash a few seconds afterwords. My VPN is Check Point VPN-1 SecureClient Anyone knows what can be done with this problem?

    VMWare ESXi4 with 2 VM's (FreeBSD-amd64). When doing a reboot on one of the VM's, the reboot is done in normal speed, but after that, the interactive response time on the other gets very slow: pressing return at the command prompt, takes serveral seconds to be exectuted. SSH-ing to the VM machine takes a long time before you are logged in. Only after 20 minutes or so, the situation is normalized. What's the reason and how to remedy?

    When using nc, scp, wget to transfer files between 2 machines on a dedicated 2Mbps link, I get speeds between 0.5 and 1 Mbps. However, when I use iperf -c 10.0.1.4 -t 20 -P 12 (for example) I can maximise the speed of the link (getting stable 2Mbps). Is there a way to make single stream transfers (such as those done by scp) to utilise all/most of the link? Some kind of tcp settings, or iptables...?

  • Monitoring folder diffs across servers with zabbix

    Problem: I want to make sure that a certain folder is equal regarding it's contents across my servers. I do not want an automatic filesync to keep them equal, changing is done manually. My initial thought was to once a day calculate some crc/hash on folder and send to Zabbix, and trigger when values differ. Is there any good tools out there that can calculate crc or similar of a folder? Anyone know of another solution that solves my problem?

  • I want to press a key combination in OpenBox and have a terminal appear below my resized Chromium window

    This is one of those things that looks like it might have a simple solution but is rather time consuming once you start investigating PyTile, Xnee and the likes. I know, I should just use a tiling window manager etc., but I suppose it can be done in OpenBox, and I am just hoping somebody already has a working solution. Ok, so I want to press a key combination while I am in an OpenBox session (Lubuntu LXDE to be more precise) and have my terminal appear below my then resized Chromium window (say ~60% Chromium and ~40% Terminal).

    I want to make a port forward from my public server to my home pc, to connect through ssh. What have I done wrong? From home pc I run command: ssh -R 8022:127.0.0.1:22 remote.host Now when I try to connect with: ssh remote.host -p 8022 I get error "Connection refused" But when I connect to remote.host through ssh, and try to run: ssh localhost -p 8022 It connects to my home PC. How I can connect to home with one simple command? ssh remote.host -p 8022

  • Setting http auth type in phpMyAdmin on Debian

    I'm trying to set-up the fresh phpMyAdmin install on my Debian 6 server to use http authentication rather than the cookie based auth that is default when it is installed. To do this, I edited the $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] line to use 'http' as its setting in /etc/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php, and restarted the server, but the setting seems to be being ignored, as when I goto phpmyadmin, it is still offering up the regular login box. I've done this twice before (once on debian and once on ubuntu), so I'm not sure why it isn't working this time. Thank you

    I am the only administrator on my Window's 7 Asus x53E series laptop. Why is a standard user able to access my files by just searching my name in the start menu? If I log into guest account and search my name it shows an error that i don't have permission. When i log into my roommate's standard account and go to the start menu I put my name in search and everything I have done or searched is open to them . How can i make my administrator account private

  • Western Digital External 1TB HDD, possible to mount internally?

    I have an external WD MyBook. it has USB, Firewire and e-sata connectors, but I would like to mount it internally in my desktop system instead for extra performance, and I'm also considered about how long it will last externally. Does anyone know if this is possible? Has anyone done this with success?   • Can IOS be upgraded on a Cisco Catalyst 6509 switch without downtime?

    There's this Cisco Catalyst 6509 switch with 2 (two) supervisor modules; one of them is active, the other is (almost always) in standby. We need to upgrade IOS; current version is 12.2.something (I can check exactly which one, if this does matter). Can this be done without service interruption? Something like "upgrade the standby supervisor, activate it, upgrade the other one"?
