• (Cpp) Linker, Libraries & Directories Information

  I've finished both my C++ 1/2 classes and we did not cover anything on Linking to libraries or adding additional libraries to C++ code. I've been having a hay-day trying to figure this out; I've been unable to find basic information linking to objects. Initially I thought the problem was the IDE (Netbeans; and Code::Blocks). However I've been unable to get wxWidgets and GTKMM setup. Can someone point me in the right direction on the terminology and basic information about #including files and linking files in a Cpp application? Basically I want/need to know everything in regards to this process. The difference between .dll, .lib, .o, .lib.a, .dll.a. The difference between a .h and a "library" (.dll, .lib correct?) I understand I need to read the compiler documentation I am using; however all compilers (that I know of) use linker and headers; I need to learn this information. • Boost Date_Time problem compiling a simple program

  Hello! I'm writing a very stupid program using Boost Date_Time library. int main(int srgc, char** argv) { using namespace boost::posix_time; date d(2002,Feb,1); //an arbitrary date ptime t1(d, hours(5)+nanosec(100)); //date + time of day offset ptime t2 = t1 - minutes(4)+seconds(2); ptime now = second_clock::local_time(); //use the clock date today = now.date(); //Get the date part out of the time } Well I cannot compile it, compiler does not recognize a type... Well I used many features of Boost libs like serialization and more... I correctly built them and, looking in my /usr/local/lib folder I can see that libboost_date_time.so is there (a good sign which means I was able to build that library) When I compile I write the following: g++ -lboost_date_time main.cpp But the errors it showed me when I specify the lib are the same of those ones where I do not specify any lib. What is this? Anyone knows? • xcode project-/target-settings-syntax for linker flag force_load on iPhone

  Hi all. I am confronted with the double bind, that on the one hand for one of the 3rd party static libraries, my iPhone application uses, the linker flag -all_load has to be set in the application project- or target settings, otherwise the app crashes at runtime not finding some symbols, called internally from the lib, on the other hand for another 3rd party static lib -all_load must not be set on application level, or the app won't build thanks to a "duplicate symbols"-linker error. To solve this issue I now want to use force_load instant of load_all, as it due to documentation it does the same like all_load, but only for the passed path or lib-file, instead of all libs. The problem with force_load is, I do not have a clue, how to pass a path or file as parameter with it, when passing it via xcode project- or target-settings. All syntax-possibilities coming to my mind either lead into xcode thinking its another linker flag instead of a parameter to the previous one, or the linker is throwing syntax related errors or the flag simply does nothing at all in comparison to not being set. I also opened the .pbxproj-file in a text-editor to edit it to the correct command line syntax manually, but when reloading the project with xcode, it auto changes the syntax into interpreting the parameter to force_load as a separate flag. • Python 3.3 Webserver restarting problems

  I have made a simple webserver in python, and had some problems with it before as described here: Python (3.3) Webserver script with an interesting error In that question, the answer was to use a While True: loop so that any crashes or errors would be resolved instantly, because it would just start itself again. I've used this for a while, and still want to make the server restart itself every few minutes, but on Linux for some reason it won't work for me. If i'd say require 'yaml' or even require 'digest' then that works fine. I am using OS X 10.5.8, with Ruby 1.9.1-p378. The system-wide install of Ruby 1.8.6 works fine. Just last week I uninstalled Ruby and re-installed it. When I first installed Ruby I installed it in a similar manner, from source prefixed at my local $HOME/usr directory. I tried removing each and every file make install installs, then re-installing, but that didn't help. Do you have an idea what the issue is and how to resolve it?

  Hi, I have project, already developed using canvas and lib used is LCDUI. It's for nokia keyboard supported devices. Now I want to incorporate same application for touch devices. I have used touch methods like pointerpressed, etc. For normal functionality that worked pretty well. But it creates problem in commands. My application is in fullscreen mode. Commands I have created using user defined menu list. Probles is that I can not directly identify that which command has been clicked. Setting coordinates for every command is not thr feasible solution for me. I come across the new lib LWUIT, but i found out that it supports only forms(Can't we use on canvas?). and integrating LCDUI and LWUIT is also not possible(please give suggestion that can we use both in same application?). Is it possible to create form under canvas itself? Any other lib support available? thank you.

• psqlODBC won't load after installing MS SQL ODBC driver on RHEL 6

  I had the PostgreSQL drivers working on my RHEL 6. But after I installed Microsoft® SQL Server® ODBC Driver 1.0 for Linux I can no longer connect to PosgreSQL data sources. I can connect to SQL Server data sources fine. When I had this same issue a week ago I uninstalled MS SQL Server ODBC driver from Linux and it fixed the issue. I had to copy the psqlodbcw.so files from another machine to replenish the files. I don't want to do the same this time. I want both drivers to work on Linux. This time around the setup files got deleted: /usr/lib64/libodbcpsqlS.so. Replenishing it did not fix the issue. (.... = cout, endl, string); So I think it has something to do with the code assistance. I think I have to change/add/remove some folders. • Visual Studio 2008 linker wants all symbols to be resolved, not only used ones

  We recently upgraded to Visual Studio 2008 from 2005, and I think those error started after that. In our solution, we have a multitude of projects. Many of those are utility projects, or projects containing core functionality used by other projects. The output of those is lib files that are linked to when building the projects generating the final binaries using the "Project dependencies..." option. One of the other projects---Let us call it ResultLib---generates a DLL, and it needs one single function from the core project. This function uses only static function from its own source file, but the project in its entirety uses a lot of low-level Windows functions and also imports a DLL---Let us call it Driver.dll. Our problem is that when building ExtLib, the linker complains about a multitude of unresolved externals, for example all functions exported from Driver.dll, since its lib file is not specified when linking. If we try to fix this by adding all lib files used by other projects that use all of the core project, our resulting ResultLib DLL ends up importing Driver.dll and also exporting all functions defined in it. How do we tell Visual Studio to only try to resolve symbols that are actually used?

  i have 1 dedicated server with Nginx proxy for Apache. Memcache, mysql, 4G Ram. These day, my visitor on my site wasn't increased, but my server get overload always in some specified time. • Python: eliminating stack traces into library code?

  When I get a runtime exception from the standard library, it's almost always a problem in my code and not in the library code. Is there a way to truncate the exception stack trace so that it doesn't show the guts of the library package? • ctypes DLL with optional dependencies

  Disclaimer: I'm new to windows programming so some of my assumptions may be wrong. Please correct me if so. I am developing a python wrapper for a C API using ctypes. The API ships with both 64 and 32 DLLs/LIBs. I can succesfully load the DLL using ctypes.WinDLL('TheLibName') and call functions etc etc. However some functions were not doing what they should. Upon further investigation it appears that the 32bit DLL is being used, which is what is causing the unexpected behaviour. I have tried using ctypes.WinDLL('TheLibName64') but the module is not found. I have tried registering the DLL with regsrv32, but it reports there is no entry point (it also reports no entry point when I try and register TheLibName, which is found by WinDLL(). The DLL came with a sample project in Visual Studio (I have 0 experience with VS so again please correct me here) which builds both 32 and 64 bit versions of the sample project. In the .vcsproj file the configurations for the 64 bit version include: AdditionalDependencies="TheLibName64.lib" in the VCLinkerTool section. In windows/system32 there are both TheLibName.dll/.lib, and TheLibName64.dll/.lib. So it seems to me that my problem is now to make the python ctypes DLL loader load these optional dependencies when the DLL is loaded. However I can't find any information on this (perhaps because, as a doze noob, I do not know the correct terminology) in the ctypes documentation. Is there a way to do this in ctypes? Am I going about this in completely the wrong way? Any help or general information about optional DLL dependencies and how they are loaded in windows would be much appreciated. Thanks

• Could not load SWT library on Windows 32-bit

  I am almost done with one Java project that I have been developing on Linux. Now I need to build and test it on Windows. So I have installed Eclipse on Windows XP 32-bit, and imported my project. All dependencies of project are in jar files in lib folder, and on Linux everything works well, but on Windows XP I get following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. • Boost program will not working on Linux

  Hi SOF, I have this program which uses Boost::Asio for sockets. I pretty much altered some code from the Boost examples. The program compiles and runs just like it should on Windows in VS. However, when I compile the program on Linux and run it, I get a Segmentation fault. I posted the code here The command I use to compile it is this: c++ -I/appl/htopopt/Linux_x86_64/NTL-5.4.2/include -I/appl/htopopt/Linux_x86_64/boost_1_43_0/include mpqs.cpp mpqs_polynomial.cpp mpqs_host.cpp -o mpqs_host -L/appl/htopopt/Linux_x86_64/NTL-5.4.2/lib -lntl -L/appl/htopopt/Linux_x86_64/gmp-4.2.1/lib -lgmp -lm -L/appl/htopopt/Linux_x86_64/boost_1_43_0/lib -lboost_system -lboost_thread -static -lpthread By commenting out code, I have found out that I get the Segmentation fault due to the following line: boost::asio::io_service io_service; Can anyone provide any assistance, as to what may be the problem (and the solution)? Edit: I tried changing the program to a minimal example, using no other libraries or headers, just boost/asio.hpp: #define DEBUG 0 #include <boost/asio.hpp> int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { boost::asio::io_service io_service; return 0; } I also removed other library inclusions and linking on compilation, however this minimal example still gives me a segmentation fault.

  MFC Toolbox Library.lib(SimpleFileIO.obj) : error LNK2005: _wcsnlen already defined in libcmtd.lib(wcslen_s.obj) fatal error LNK1169: one or more multiply defined symbols found This is driving me nuts. Normally, one would get this if the various projects that are a part of their solution do not agree on which CRT to use (single threaded, multi-threaded, release or debug). However, I have been over this thing about 500 times now, and they all agree. Background: this is a VS 2010 project just converted from VS 2008. MFC Toolbox Library.lib is set to compile as a static library, using /MTd, as is the target .exe I am trying to compile in this solution. Further, the solution that this is being converted from (VS 2008) already compiles & links properly!!! So it's not like that there is a disagreement between the two .vcproj's - or at least there wasn't before the conversion. Furthermore, the MFC Toolbox Library is used by about 25 other projects in another solution - and in that solution (Master Build English) it compiles & links against those other projects without complaint in both debug and release targets. I have just spent the last hour going over every single project property for this target project (Cimex Header Viewer) vs. several different target exe projects in Master Build English solution - and I cannot find a difference. They appear to be identical, excepting that they're different names. I've tried doing a clean & build all. I'm simply out of ideas. Does anyone have a thought on what else I might investigate??? I think I'm ready to start chewing glass. :(

• How would I include open source library in my iPhone application?

  I have found an existing open source library that I would like to include in my iPhone project (the unrar source code found here: http://www.rarlab.com/rar_add.htm ). I have compiled this source as a linked library on my Mac with "make lib" which creates the libunrar.so file just fine. These are the makefile settings for that target: lib: WHAT=RARDLL lib: $(OBJECTS) $(LIB_OBJ) @rm -f libunrar.so $(LINK) -shared -o libunrar.so $(LDFLAGS) $(OBJECTS) $(LIB_OBJ) Obviously I can't use this on iPhone but I imagine I should be able to compile with different options to make a static library that I can use. Do I: Compile it on the Mac with different make options then drag the resulting library (some kind of .a ?) into my xcode project? or Drag all of the source code into my xcode project and create special targets of some kind to create it? or Something else entirely different? I've been working on solving my unrar problem for a couple of weeks now and I believe using this library will give me the best results but I just don't know the final steps to make use of it. I've started using Dwoo as my template engine for PHP, and am not sure how to convert my PHP files into .tpl templates. My site is similar to, but not the same as, http://library.digiguide.com/lib/programme/Medium-319648/Drama/ with its design (except colour scheme and site name are different, plus it's in PHP - so copyright issues are avoided here, the design arguably could be seen as parody even though the content is different. The database is called tvguide, and it has these tables: Programmes House M.D. Medium Police Stop! American Dad! The tablenames of the above programmes are: housemdonair mediumonair policestopair americandad1 Episodes The tablenames for the above programmes' episode guides are: housemdepidata mediumepidata policestopepidata americandad1epidata All of them have the following rows: id (not an auto-increment, since I wish to dynamically generate a page from this) episodename seriesnumber episodenumber episodesynopsis (the above four after id do exactly as stated) I have a pagination script that works, it displays 20 records per page as I want it to. This is called pmcPagination.php - but I won't post it in full since it would take up too much space. However, I'm trying to get it so that variables are filled in like this: (ok, so the examples below are ASP.NET, but if there's a PHP/MySQL equivalent I would gratefully appreciate this!!): http://library.digiguide.com/lib/episode/741168 http://library.digiguide.com/lib/episode/714829 with the episode detail and data. My site works, but it's fairly basic, and it's not online yet until my bugs are fixed. Mod_rewrite is enabled so my site reads as http://mytvguide.com/episode/123456 or http://mytvguide.com/programme/123456 http://mytvguide.com/WorldInAction/123456/Documentary/ I've tried looking on Google, but am not sure how to get this TV guide script to work at its best - but I think .tpl, and .php/MySQL is the way to go. I connect to the database with conn = connectionForURI(connStr) conn.makeConnection() This succeeds, and I can do queries on the connection: g_conn = conn.getConnection() cur = g_conn.cursor() cur.execute(query) res = cur.fetchall() This works as intended. However, I also defined some classes, e.g: class User(SQLObject): class sqlmeta: table = "gui_user" username = StringCol(length=16, alternateID=True) password = StringCol(length=16) balance = FloatCol(default=0) When I try to do a query using the class: User.selectBy(username="foo") I get an exception: ... • Visual Studio Folder Structure

  I am not sure how this works. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and I created a Class Library (say the name is Test). I also selected the option to create a folder for the solution. Following is the directory structure I get: Test - Test - bin - Debug - obj - Debug - Properties - AassemblyInfo.cs - Test.cs - Test.csproj - Test.sln - Test.suo This is default and I have no problems running my code this way. My querry is I see other solutions (class libraries) created in the Subversion by others before have a different structure. The structure for that is as follows: Test - .svn - lib - <<Reference 1>> - <<Reference 2>> - .... - <<Reference N>> - src - bin - Debug - obj - Debug - Properties - AassemblyInfo.cs - Test.cs - Test.csproj - Test.sln - Test.suo My query is how to create this structure? All the references to other projects are maintained in lib folder and source code is maintained in src folder. This is not the case happening with me. When I open the solution in Visual Studio, I cannot see any such folder like lib or src. It shows the same way as mine. Kindly help and forgive me for being so elaborative. Thanks
