• Make c# matrix code faster

  Hi all, Working on some matrix code, I'm concerned of performance issues. here's how it works : I've a IMatrix abstract class (with all matrices operations etc), implemented by a ColumnMatrix class. abstract class IMatrix { public int Rows {get;set;} public int Columns {get;set;} public abstract float At(int row, int column); } class ColumnMatrix : IMatrix { private data[]; public override float At(int row, int column) { return data[row + columns * this.Rows]; } } This class is used a lot across my application, but I'm concerned with performance issues. • Automatic LaTex document generation from Excel spreadsheet

  I have some data in an excel file from which I have to generate a report. I repeat this task fairly regularly and am looking to automate it. I have a LaTeX project into which I usually just copy data by hand, export the necessary worksheets as pdfs and add them to my LaTeX project and compile with pdflatex. It has occured to me that there must be a way to automate this process. Is there an efficient way to export the data from excel and into a LaTeX project, possibly a vba script in excel could run the process? Also, it doesn't have to be LaTeX, I'm not all that experienced with MS office's more advanced features is there some way akin to a mail merge that I could achieve this with? In some ways this might be better in case I have to pass the work on to someone who doesn't know LaTeX. Thanks.

• Weird Windows 2003 MSDTC and SQL 2005 issue

  scenario: Windows 2003 sp2 x64 enterprise edition. SQL 2005 sp2 cu9 x64 Enterprise edition After restarting the resource groups on two node active-active cluster, 3 SQL 2005 instances start up fine. The 4th one starts up but starts throwing the following error. "Enlist operation failed: 0x8004d00e(XACT E NOTRANSACTION). SQL Server could not register with Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) as a resource manager for this transaction. The transaction may have been stopped by the client or the resource manager." MSDTC is fine since the other 3 function normally. The only way to "fix" it is to take the 4th instance offline and bring it online again. Is there any way to fix this enlistment without restarting?

• Rename outlook2007 categories not working

  Hi, I'm new to outlook 2007 and I'm trying to rename a category. Acordingly to MS, I can achieve it by just renaming it: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA012316361033.aspx But as soon as I click the OK button, confirming the change, it returns to it's original value. For instance, if I rename the "Blue Category" to "Home" it will accept without erros. But, when I click again in the Categorize icon, I'll see that the "Blue Category" is still there, and my "Home" category does not exist. Has someone experienced this kind of problem? TIA, Bob

Would like to avoid buying third party software, here's what I have discerned so far: NTFS - Can't be written to by Mac without buying third party software? ext3 - Windows can't read, third party software in development. Mac has OSXFUSE HFS+ - Buy third party and/or faff around to get working on windows exFAT - Cross platform, but breaks MS patents?

• DNS problems on CentOS fresh install

  I'm having some DNS issues on a new box I'm installing with CentOS 6.2. I am able to look up names using nslookup, dig, or host. I am able to ping machines by name or by IP address. However, when I try other tools, such as ssh, wget, or yum, they are unable to resolve names. • Flash drive doesn't mount on mac

  I've got two different USB flash drives which are formatted MS-DOS(FAT-16). When I plug each into my MacBook Pro (running MacOS 10.6 - Snow Leopard), they don't mount. I can see them using Disk Utility. When I run an Ubuntu VM inside of VMWare Fusion, Ubuntu has no trouble mounting these either. I've tested with the drives plugged directly into the machine and plugged into a usb hub -- both give the same results. Is there a setting I've inadvertently set which disables automounting? Is there an issue with mounting FAT-16 drives?

  I have to remove or blacklist an LDAP/dovecot user. I followed this guide for disabling 1 user through postfixes access file: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-blacklist-reject-sender-email-address/ Unfortunately it doesn't work. It's like the settings stored in LDAP are overruling the access rule. Instead of postfix rejecting the mail it keeps accepting it. Thanks!

  I am using an application that requires several attempts to log in (because of overloaded servers). This app has no "remember my password" feature. Therefore, I would like to make a script (preferably a .bat script), that would first copy my password into the clipboard -so that I don't have to retype my password on every log on attempt- , then launch the application (easy part) Is this possible with a MS-DOS command ?   When I navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\WMP.PlayCD\Shell\Play" in The Windows Registry, I find one REG_EXPAND_SE named MUIVerb on my Windows 7 system. However in its contents it's carrying "@%windir%\system32\wmploc.dll,-6503" Now my question is: What does this @ character mean or do? I am an MS-DOS grown up and I haven't seen such a notation before. Should I interprete it as the @ like in an e-mail address? What is the final result. Does it become "C:\%windir%\system32\wmploc.dll,-6503" eventually ?

• No Internet access while being connected to VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.

  Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help. • Fixing/Extending Standard Windows File Open/Save Dialog [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Change left side link of the Save As Dialog for a DropBox one? Almost every time I use the standard Windows (XP) File Open/Save Dialog I get frustrated in how long it takes me to navigate to where I want to go. :-( (I won't even get into the MS Office dialog that makes things even worse) This is the dialog I'm referring to (with some notes) Notes: Wouldn't a Drive list be handy in here? C:\, D:\, E:\, etc. What about a breadcrumb URI? (the magenta list of links) Why isn't Program Files one of the icons on the left? (green) I'm always going in there for something Why can't I type "../../../" to navigate up multiple directories in the File name box? (blue) There has got to be some utilities out there that can "hijack" or "overwrite" this core windows dialog to provide a much better set of options. I'm looking for any/all solutions to help fix this dialog.

  I have Office 2008 for OS X through Microsoft's HUP (Home Use Program). I want to reinstall, so I need to first remove it. For Office on OS X, Microsoft provides a binary called "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office/Remove Office". When I run it, it says it can't find any versions of office on my computer and won't do anything. I know MS-Office for Mac puts many different components in various places all over the system and not just within it's own applications folder, so how to I successfully remove Office so I can re-install?

• Reimage several of the same model PC by copying the hard disk

  I have several of the same machine (Dell Precision T3500) that originally came with Windows 7 Pro (there is a Windows 7 Pro OA product key sticker on top of each one). These were initially downgraded to XP by a former IT colleague, but are now back in the pool of unused machines. I am looking to format and install Windows 7 Pro on one of them using the latest official Win7 installer ISO with SP1 and then clone the hard drive to the other machines. The questions then, are: Does this even make sense, or is there a better way to do this considering I'm only doing it to 6 machines? Does this jive with MS licensing (we are the original purchaser of the machines, and thus, presumably, the license holder...but I'm no expert)? Is it possible to apply the individual 25-char product keys to the cloned machines after cloning? How far can I go in the config process (installing corporate standard apps and such) before I have to clone to the other machines considering the licensing/key questions?

  I have a Windows XP machine (it is a VM running in Xen) that I would like to backup. I have enabled ClearPageFileAtShutdown by following MS KB 314834. If I cleanly shutdown the XP machine and then mount the drive in another machine (which is trivial since the machine is virtual) I still have a large pagefile.sys. I was hoping that enabling ClearPageFileAtShutdown would result in a pagefile.sys with a size near zero. I have two questions. First, is it possible to have pagefile.sys be deleted, or have a drastic size reduction, at shutdown? Second, can I exclude pagefile.sys from my backup?

• Why does a Windows 7 installation grow so seriously and how to shring it?

  I store all my data and the most of applications (those legally available in "portable" versions) on drive D: and only use drive C: for the Windows system and some heavily integrated applications like MS Office, Visual Studio, Adobe Reader, Flash Player etc. When I was using Windows XP, 50 GiB drive C: was more than enough. Now, as I've mitigated to Windows 7, it hardly is. Yesterday as I've checked, 7 GiBs were free on drive C:. Then I've installed fresh Windows updates (which were just some tens of MiBs to download) and checked again: now there are only 2 GiBs free. Where have 5 GiBs gone? PS: Don't be surprised my system installation takes actually that much: I've got Visual Studio and SQL Server with complete offline documentation library, but that doesn't explain where does free space disappear on simple Windows updates. PPS: I use an augmented CCleaner version to clean my PC every day, so there are for sure no temporary internet files of recycle bin trash files taking the place.

  I ran into some problems with my ATI Radeon x1200. I want it to support vertex shader 3.0, but it only does 2.0. This is because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 only works with 3.0. So, I want a new video card. Can someone help me, with a more clean look to it? I bet if I would stick to some seller, I would end up with a video card that does not support what I want, or is too expansive. I really do not want it to be above $75, if possible. • Issue with emails with attached emails.

  There is this problem with our email in my organisation that happens to some people. When a remote sender sends an email that has an attached email, the reciever gets the email but the attached email is blank. The recieving mail server is MDaemon Pro. I also notice that the email header could be corrupted. I checked the MDaemon KB and find nothing regarding this issue. but I also highly doubt that this is an MS Outlook 2007 issue. Anyone have any ideas? Putting this issue aside, I feel that we really should not attach emails to emails. There is a reason for the "Forward" button. I can't understand why is it so difficult for them to just forward that email instead of drag and drop one into the other using outlook. Furthermore, if the attached email also has its own attachments, the resulting nesting will be quite unbearable. Don't you think so?

• Software for printing small photos on larger paper with easy layout snapping

  Have some photos and pictures to print (graphs, but that doesn't matter here). So far when printing I inserted them in MS Word, played with layout on the paper, and after half a day, finally managed to get it just right. Usually then, the power runs out :-) Anyways, does anyone know of any software which enables me to easily put up some kind of a layout (one under the other, or some rectangular grid) where I can just "snap" photos next to each other, before printing the whole thing. I know I can do that in pretty much any photo editing program, but the problem is that that pixel hunting takes time ... and is generally a very annoying process, expecially when you don't want to edit the photos in mind, just print them out. Anyways, I'm sure you get the general idea ... Suggestions ?

In Features View, double-click Directory Browsing. In the Actions pane, click Enable if the Directory Browsing feature is disabled and you want to enable it. Or, click Disable if the Directory Browsing feature is enabled and you want to disable it. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731109%28WS.10%29.aspx However, my IIS console doesn't have the Directory Browsing option mentioned in Step 2. How can this option be made available. Note, this is for a static HTML site, so I don't have any web.config or ASPX files.

• cleaning up pdftotext font issues

  I'm using pdftotext to make an ASCII version of a PDF document (made with LaTeX), because collaborators prefer a simple document in MS word. The plain text version I see looks good, but upon closer inspection the f character seems to be frequently mis-converted depending on what characters follow. For example, fi and fl often seem to become one special character, which I will try to paste here: ? and ?. What is the best way to clean up the output of pdftotext? I am thinking sed might be the right tool, but am not sure how to detect these special characters.

• Mail sending program & exchange server

  Hi, I have been asked to send about 6500 e-mails to addresses in a member database. I have written the program, that sends and reports the ones that couldn't send etc. But my concern is that this program will just call smtpclient.Send(); and I don't know what happens if 6000 mails are in the queue. Server is MS Exchange as I have been told. Note: I am planning to send them, say 500 by 500. But what if an exception occurs on the Exchange server at 120... then what happens to the other ones.. I will appreciate little insight to the subject. Thanks in advance.

• Trouble with resolving hostnames on CentOS using Bind

  I'm taking a course on server administration at school and I have managed to set up virtual hosting in apache and a dns server on a virtual machine. However, I have now set up an old pc to run CentOS and I'm trying the same on that box. The problem I ran into now is that I can't resolve hostnames from the linux box. I have set up the nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf to the IP of the CentOS machine, but when I try for example ping google.com I get ping: unknown host google.com However, when I do ping 66.102.13.105 (which is the Google IP, figured that out by pinging on my mac) I get: PING 66.102.13.105 (66.102.13.105) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 66.102.13.105: icmp_seq=1 ttl=52 time=15.5 ms Slightly confused why this is happening. Could it be because of my router sitting in between the linux machine and the cable modem? It's a D-Link somethingsomething. Thanks in advance
