• SharePoint 2010 GAC deployment doesn't update

  The following issue just crept up on me. The steps mentioned below had worked just fine until about 2 days ago. When I deploy a update to a solution (of web parts) to a SharePoint 2010 server I don't see the update. The solution does get installed, but from what I can tell the installed web parts are over a month old (nothing new is installed). I do the following steps through PowerShell: retract the solution from the web app remove the solution add the solution install the solution to the web app I have tried restarting the Web App, restarting IIS and also restarting the server. Nothing seems to work. I notice that after I remove the solution it does get removed from the GAC. After I add/install it the solution does reappears in the GAC. Am I missing something? Am I overlooking a step that I should be doing? Something to try?

• Entity Framework 4 Entity with EntityState of Unchanged firing update

  I am using EF 4, mapping all CUD operations for my entities using sprocs. I have two tables, ADDRESS and PERSON. A PERSON can have multiple ADDRESS associated with them. Here is the code I am running: Person person = (from p in context.People where p.PersonUID == 1 select p).FirstOrDefault(); Address address = (from a in context.Addresses where a.AddressUID == 51 select a).FirstOrDefault(); address.AddressLn2 = "Test"; context.SaveChanges(); The Address being updated is associated with the Person I am retrieveing - although they are not explicitly linked in any way in the code. When the context.SaveChanges() executes not only does the Update sproc for my Address entity get fired (like you would expect), but so does the Update sproc for the Person entity - even though you can see there was no change made to the Person entity. When I check the EntityState of both objects before the context.SaveChanges() call I see that my Address entity has an EntityState of "Modified" and my Person enity has an EntityState of "Unchanged". Why is the Update sproc being called for the Person entity? Is there a setting of some sort that I can set to prevent this from happening?

• Android – multiple custom versions of the same app

  Whats the best way to deploy several customized versions of a Android application? Currently I have a script to exchange the resource folder for getting a customized version of my app. It works great, but all custom versions still have the same package name in the AndroidManifest.xml. Therefore it is not possible to install two customized versions of the app at the same time. This is one solution for this problem, but that has to be done by hand Can you think of a more easy solution, or how this could be built into a skript? (btw: it is not for a porn/spam/whatever app, not even a paid one)

  hi all, I'm trying to write an application that checks if there is an active internet connection. If so it reads an xml and checks every 'lastupdated' item ( php generated string ). It compares it to the database items and if there is a new value, this particular item needs to be updated. My code seems to work ( compiles, no error messages, no failures, .. ) but I notice that the particular property does not change, it becomese (null). • How to speed up a slow UPDATE query

  I have the following UPDATE query: UPDATE Indexer.Pages SET LastError=NULL where LastError is not null; Right now, this query takes about 93 minutes to complete. I'd like to find ways to make this a bit faster. The Indexer.Pages table has around 506,000 rows, and about 490,000 of them contain a value for LastError, so I doubt I can take advantage of any indexes here. The table (when uncompressed) has about 46 gigs of data in it, however the majority of that data is in a text field called html. I believe simply loading and unloading that many pages is causing the slowdown. One idea would be to make a new table with just the Id and the html field, and keep Indexer.Pages as small as possible. However, testing this theory would be a decent amount of work since I actually don't have the hard disk space to create a copy of the table. I'd have to copy it over to another machine, drop the table, then copy the data back which would probably take all evening. Ideas? I'm using Postgres 9.0.0. • Problems deploying Sinatra app to staging environment

  I have a small Sinatra app with both a staging and production environment on a single server with running Nginx. To deploy I am using Capistrano and capistrano-ext to easily deploy to different locations. The problem that the staging environment always runs with the production configuration specified within the app.rb file. configure :staging do # staging settings set :foo, "bar" end configure :production do # prod settings set :foo, "rab" end I have come to the conclusion that the capistrano :environment variable within the deploy.rb file doesn't config Sinatra in any way. • Detect if an app was uninstalled

  Is there a way to get a system notification when an app has been uninstalled? I would like to maintain a table of all clients' info currently using my app. However, that seems impossible if there is no way to detect this event. The first solution I can think of is to have an always running service in the background listening for android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REMOVED. But then would that service be killed once the uninstallation process has ended, or would it be stopped just before the process has kicked off? Also even if this is a solution it's has the potential to put off a lot of people when they realise that part of the app is running in the background. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  I'm using an external browser request to authenticate myself with the SoundCloudAPI in OSX. My app launches, and has a button that opens an external browser window to authenticate against SoundCloud. When I click "connect" in the new window, I get a "External Protocol Request" that is consistent with my custom launch URI scheme. Clicking this loads the app, and it gets the correct credentials. The trouble is, the browser window never changes - it simply says that it's connecting forever. There is no "connection confirmed" alert coming from SoundCloud. I know I'm logged in because I can make the correct calls to the API to get things such as my username. Why isn't the browser confirming the connection or dismissing? The same thing happens if I load the authentication in an internal WebView in the app.

Problem : Where should I store this data. i.e in which folder and where. Right Now (This is wrong) it is stored in a folder in Debug/App_Data. But is causing issues in git and when we publish the App the data is not found. So where can we store this folder ? Present Structure is "WpfApplication2\WpfApplication2\bin\Debug" These Files need to be present when the app is started. So they need to be a part of the app itself.

• Separating Spring and Dojo single page app codebases

  I'm working on a web application with a Spring Roo REST API backend and a Dojo single-page client app. Spring Roo provides a handy admin interface (with Web MVC) out of the box, so I'd like to keep that accessible for administrative duties. However I'd like the Dojo app to be decoupled from the server application as possible. The server is a platform for which we expect new client applications to be developed, so I'd like to develop the 'official' client web app in isolation. What is the best (or even just one good) way to structure the application code? It's easy to leave the server alone as an API and admin interface, but where does all the Dojo JS live? It works okay when it's in the Spring webapp directory, but gets complicated quickly as soon as the structure gets more complex or is moved anywhere else (Spring URL mappings are still awfully opaque to me). Ideally it could be hosted locally on a development machine, which introduces all the cross-domain JS issues as well.

I can't force my customer to install that application! So my question is, can the SL4A layer be integrated in my app without the need to install other apk? I need to execute actions like update data in the DB, create/read/delete a file on the sd card... Not so complex but I see SL4A can do a lot of things like these. Other scripting libraries? • Redirect after refreshing update panel

  Hello, Do you think it's possible to refresh an update panel and immediately after redirecting the response (for instance a download) ? I tried this: an invisible button - as an asyncpostbacktrigger a download button - when it is clicked the onclientclick clicks the invisible button the click event on the invisible button refreshes the update panel then the download button click event launches the download (normal postback which launches the download) However for some reason when the invisible button is clicked by the download button client script, it doesn't refresh the update panel.. Do you have an idea why it doesn't work? Or do you have other and cleaner techniques? • Android GPS app not closing connection

  Hi there, Fairly new to Android, so just trying to work out: I have a simple Maps app that plots a couple of locations. It's a demo for a potentially bigger app later. The one thing I would like to do is make it exit correctly. I want to assume that when a user hits the "Home" or "Back" button on the phone, that they have exited the app. I want when this has happened for the GPS process to shut down. I can't seem to find any examples of how to do this correctly. I have an onDestroy() subclass with a super.onDestroy() method but this doesn't seem to cut it. I've tested on my phone and while everything else seems to work fine, this is bugging me. I keep seeing the GPS icon in the notifications bar. To give you an example, this doesn't happen when you leave GoogleMaps. Anyone any ideas or know what I'm missing? T

However users spreading it trough facebook cant open the links when in their facebook app. The app does not send it to safari either. If opened directly from safari it is no problem. The link is http://visit.lodingen360.com Is there anything i can do to the site/index.html/whatever that will make it open in safari when the link is clicked in the facebook app for ios? (that won't affect visiting the site from pc's and so on) Is there anything uiwebview won't read that can force it to safari, so that we can redirect from the thing opened in safari to the site?

• What is the best way to create a running integer id on the AppEngine data storage?

  For various reasons, I need a unique running integer id for my entities stored on the Google AppEngine. The automatically generated key sort of has this behaviour, but it doesn't start from 1 (or 0) and doesn't guarantee that the generated integer part will come from a continuous sequence. What would be the best way to efficiently implement this on AppEngine? Is there any support from the storage system? To add to the complexity, I might need to do this over entities from different entity groups, meaning I can't just get the highest id right now and save an entity with the next id in a transaction. Might memcache be the way to go..? Edit: I havn't yet implemented this, but to clarify on the memcache idea. I know memcache is unreliable, but in practice it probably won't lose data "too often" to hurt performance. Basically, I would have a memcache entry for the last used id, update it (somehow atomically) whenever I create a new entity and use that id. In the case of memcache not having a value for this entry, I'd get the highest id so far by doing a query on my entities sorted by the id and update memcache (unless someone else had already done so). The only problem I can see with this right now would be atomicity of the operation as a whole if the save of my new entity was also part of a transaction. Thoughts..?

• NHibernate / ORM - Child Update over Web Service

  What is the correct way to UPDATE a child object with NHibernate but not have to "awake" the parent object. Lets say you would like to try to avoid this because the parent object is large or expensive to initiate. Lets assume classes are called Author(parent) and Book(child). (still, trying to avoid instantiating Author) Book comes back over a web service as XML. It gets deserialized back into a CLR object. Book has an AuthorId property which allows this to happen. But it also has a Author property. Problem, comes when you try to SaveOrUpdate() Book and the author_id in the database gets wiped out because the Author was null when the object gets deserialized. This seems like this would be a common problem. What is the workaround? Also, if you instantiate the Author and it has a Books property. The book you are trying to update is already one of these books (List<Book>). We have also run into the "a different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session" problems. What is the standard process to update a child over a web service?

  Hi I'm a techie with no programing experience. I know html and css, but I'd like to someday be able to make an app for my phone (I have an android) and possibly mobile websites. I made learning a programing language and creating a mobile app a goal for my job, and now my boss would like me to pick a programing language to learn. I found a free open course from MIT (http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-00-introduction-to-computer-science-and-programming-fall-2008/) called introduction to computer science. In the course they teach python, but more importantly it seems they teach how to think like a programmer. When I told my boss about the free online course she didn't think that Python was an appropriate language for me to learn. She'd like me to learn a language that is more similar to one used to make Phone apps. Does anyone out there know a better language for me to pick up that would be similar to Android or iPhone's App language. Thank you

• What's the proper size of Default png's for iPad?

  I am confused by conflicting information. Most commonly I see these being the sizes quoted for the various Default images: Launch image Portrait Default-Portrait.png 768 x 1004 Launch image Portrait [email protected] 1536 x 2008 Launch image Landscape [email protected] 2048 x 1496 Launch image Landscape Default-Landscape.png 1024 x 748 Seemed like slightly unusual sizes, but I went along with it and dragged the images into the Launch images section in XCode. XCode however promptly puts little yellow triangles over these images and tell me that the sizes should be: 768x1024, 1536x2048, 1024x768 and 2048x1536 Oh and one last important bit. Do I really need to have all these images for submission to the app store? It's really not clear which images are required and which are just recommended. Mine is a Universal app btw if that makes any difference.
