• SSH keys fail for one user

  I just set up a new Debian server. I disabled root SSH and password auth, so you've gotta use a key file. For my primary user, everything works exactly as expected. I used ssh-keygen -t dsa and got myself a public and private key. Put one in authorized keys, put the other in a pem file locally. I wanted to create a user that I can deploy things with, so I did basically the same process. I addusered it, made a .ssh folder, ran ssh-keygen -t dsa (I also tried RSA), put the keys in their appropriate locations. No luck. I'm getting a Permission denied (publickey) error. When I use the exact same keys as the account that works, same error. When I enable password authentication, I can log in via SSH with the password. How do I debug this?

• sendmail user unknown - debian lenny

  My php's mail() function just stopped working a short while ago. It's started returning FALSE. I am not much of a sysadmin so please forgive my ignorance. I set my php.ini send_path option to: "sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i" and restarted apache. Then, I learnt how to test sendmail like so: sudo /usr/sbin/sendmail -bv [email protected] [email protected]... deliverable: mailer esmtp, host example.com., user [email protected] The example email is a real mail box. I have also seen unknown user messages in the mail log. Can anyone please help me debug this? Cheers, Rim

• Apache service hung and incoming requests not accepted

  Hi, My production server is running Apache v2.2.4 with mod_mono v1.2.4 on CentOS release 5.2 (Final). Suddenly, Apache service hung during normal usage time (approx. 1 pm EDT). Traffic is not too high at this time. This is the first time we're noticing this kind of behaviour in our server. I noticed from access log that even subsequent requests are also not received, even though there were incoming requests. I then manually tried to invoke my application call from web browser, it never returned successfully but it was still loading. I found no unusual behaviour/activity in: 1) Apache access_log and error_log 2) No kernel level errors found in /var/log/messages I've no other option but ended up restarting Apache service. Any idea on what would cause Apache to hang and thereby not allowing subsequent incoming requests? How do I debug/diagnose when this happens next time? Experts advice/recommendation on this are highly appreciated.

• Getting FC11 to run under VMware Server, converted from physical machine

  I have a FC11 installation that I have converted to a VMware disk image to run om my VMware Server. I converted it with qemu-img, as the VMware Converter software apparently only converts Linux hosts to VMware Infrastructure servers. The disk image boots fine (grub is loaded and boots the kernel) but it seems like the disk is not found by the kernel, and the boot process stalls. Hotplugging USB devices work (the kernel prints debug information) and I'm able to press keys (Ctrl-Alt-Delete for instance). The VMware guest OS is set to RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 (32 bit), and I have tried both the LSI Logic, LSI Logic SAS and VMware Accelerated SCSI SCSI controllers, to no avail. I'm able to boot an installer disk and get into rescue mode and mount the filesystem, so my question is, what do I need to do to the guest kernel / initrd image to make it recognize the virtual disk?

• Can't start the Windows Phone Emulator

  When I try run/debug an app in the emulator I get this error: And in Visual Studio's Error List console it simply says: 0x80131500 I haven't worked on this project for about a week, but it was working then. I checked the BIOS and everything is enabled (as it was last week). I don't think this is related, but yesterday, I did upgrade my system SSD and used the Samsung Data Migration Tool to clone my drive. I've tried repairing the Windows Phone SDK 8.0, but that didn't help. Are there any other things I can try? I really don't think it's related to the SSD. Hyper-V related services: I can't start any of these either.

  I'm trying to setup the logentries service. If a log entry has a token in it then I would like to send it to api.logentries.com:10000. The token is a guid in the format aaaaaaaa-bbbb-cccc-dddd-eeeeeeeeeeee. • mod_cache serving the wrong content

  I'm trying to use mod_disk_cache to speed up a web site that is running on WordPress. Whenever I enable it with CacheEnable disk / and the rest being the stock Ubuntu configuration I start to get the wrong results. When I see the main page it's fine, but when I go to a specific post I get a RSS feed instead. Like if the cache is returning the wrong content. I've disabled my RewriteRules as it seems mod_cache doesn't work with that. I'm not even sure where to start to debug such a thing. Any ideas?

• aTop like tool for OSX

  I'm trying to debug some issues with my Mac. This machine is used as continuous integration server. It stops responding from time to time. I think it could be some software issue, since the machine is working (so i.e. it's not a kernel panic) - that is when I go to the server room I see the login screen and I can move the mouse. Unfortunately I can't login neither directly nor by VNC or SSH. There is a nice tool that helps in debugging this type of problem called aTop. It's like top but with history. Unfortunately it's Linux-only software. Is there any tool that is similar to aTop for OSX?

  I have a Ubuntu 10.04 machine that has tomcat6 on it. When I start tomcat6 with /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start I get * Starting Tomcat servlet engine tomcat6 /bin/bash already running. and the server fails to start. Unfortunately, there is nothing in /var/log/tomcat/catalina.out to help debug the issue. With some cleverly placed echo statements it seems to be the line from /etc/init.d/tomcat6: start-stop-daemon --start -u "$TOMCAT6_USER" -g "$TOMCAT6_GROUP" \ -c "$TOMCAT6_USER" -d "$CATALINA_TMPDIR" \ -x /bin/bash -- -c "$AUTHBIND_COMMAND $TOMCAT_SH" The only thing I've changed in this script is TOMCAT6_USER=root. In servers.xml, the only thing I've changed is <Connector port="80" protocol="HTTP/1.1" from port 8080. I have tried reinstalling the package by first removing everything sudo apt-get --purge remove tomacat6 and then sudo apt-get install tomcat6 but this has not solved the issue. I have also restarted the server multiple times in hopes of some magic. Everything was working until I restarted my server. Any ideas?

• haproxy not passing X_FORWARD_FOR on HTTP POST

  Hello, I've setup HAProxy with the option forwardfor option so it'll pass on the user's IP to PHP via $_SERVER[ "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR" ]. If the page request isn't a POST it's populated fine but if it is then it won't be populated. Any ideas where I've gone wrong? Thanks everyone!   We have a windows file storage (don't ask) and now I want to rsync with the machine from Windows, Mac and Linux. So I installed freeSSHd (login shell is set to C:/cygwin64/bin/sh.exe), set up certificates and testing from Linux the test.dat has 0 bytes: ssh myuser@winmachinename "C:/cygwin64/bin/true.exe" > test.dat Even double checking with actual output works fine: ssh myuser@winmachinename "C:/cygwin64/bin/ls.exe" > test.dat Now, when I call rsync: rsync --progress -avz -e ssh myuser@winmachinename:/c/Users ~/test it fails with: protocol version mismatch -- is your shell clean? (see the rsync man page for an explanation) rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at compat.c(174) [Receiver=3.1.0] As far as reading the docs, this should not happen, when the first test is successful!? I am by now out of ideas - any recommendations how to debug this? • DNS responding only to nslookup in Windows 7

  Hello. I have an interesting DNS issue in AD (2008R2) which I can't find a way to debug. Mainly if from commandline I try ping <machinename> then I get the reply that the hostr isn't found. But when I do nslookup <machinename> I get the correct response from my DNS with proper AAAA and A records. Anyone has an idea what could cause this? The client machines run Windows 7 Enterprise.

• CruiseControl.Net - not able to see Project Statistics

  Hi all, I've made a reinstallation of the buildserver and can no longer see the standard graphs of project statistics. The error message shown is "Missing/Invalid statistics reports. Please check if you have enabled the Statistics Publisher, and statistics have been collected atleast once after that." To the best of my knowledge, the ccnet.config file has not been changed in this respect and by inspection it is verified that I have a Statistics / statisticsList-section for the project. Furthermore, the values appear in the Artifacts\statistics.csv and Artifacts\report.xml files. My guess would then be StatisticsGraph.xslt, which I have copied fresh from distribution to both Server\xlst and WebDashboard\xslt (why are they located in both places, by the way!?). Rebuild and check - still same error message. Any hints to how to debug this would be appreciated!

• What can I do to give some more love and disk space to my database on Ubuntu?

  I'm new to linux. I've deployed a db to ubuntu server on amazon and found out I'm low on disk space. did df (see below) - and found out that I'm 89% capacity on one file system, but less on others. What does this mean? Do I have a few partitions and can now utilize others besides /dev/xvda1? Also /dev/xvdb seems large, is it safe to put the db in it and only use it?   I need to install minix3 in vmware. I m using ubuntu 10.04. i downlaoded vmware and now i am trying to install it using:-- sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-`uname -r` chmod +x VMware-Player*.bundle gksudo bash ./VMware-Player*.bundle VM Player Installer window popped up Clicked on the ‘Install’ button The progress bar started going; above the bar, it says that the installer is ‘Configuring’ This is was more than 15 minutes ago and still going. Nothing else is running on the system (consuming CPU, mem, …) Is the ‘Configuring’ step supposed to take this long? Seems to me it might be hung. Question: Did i do something wrong? Is there a log some place that can help me to debug this?

• Buffalo wireless router

  Hi all, I have a Buffalo wireless router and it appears to work fine, for the most part. However, printing out some debug information, I noticed that the Mode is reported as unknown/bug. In the DD-WRT configuration, I have selected AP which should be Master. I was having a problem earlier with my ESSID being a bunch of weird characters. I re-entered it and restarted the router and now the ESSID is correct. I tried re-entering the configuration for the router and it still is reported back as Unknown/bug via iwlist wlan0 scanning. Any ideas? Walter

• SQL Server agent died

  3 SQL server agents stopped and didn't restart automatically untill we manually restarted them. SQL servers are on SQL 2005 X86 standard edition. The error message that was reported in Application log was: Faulting application sqlagent90.exe, version 2005.90.4211.0, stamp 49837478, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.4480, stamp 49c51f0a, debug? 0, fault address 0x0000bef7. No errors were reported in SQL server logs or SQl agent logs. Does anyone know what this means? I tried to Google but no luck. Thanks in advance!

• iPhone VPN with OpenSwan fails to reconnect

  I have managed to configure VPN with iPhone and OpenSWAN on Linux 2.6. Though, when disconnecting the iphone and reconnecting, it times out. I have found that: 1) no packets are being sent when you disconnect iPhone from VPN. 2) when reconnecting, pluto picks up on the older socket and tries to use that state machine. which then fails and iPhone retransmits until times out. I'm using the latest version in git, including #1204 patch. I see the NAT-T patch debug lines in the logs. But still, no cookie. Help?

• racoon-tool doesn't generate full racoon.conf file in /var/lib/racoon/racoon.conf

  I am using ipsec-tools/racoon to create my VPN. I am using racoon-tool to configure racoon.conf but when I run racoon-tool reload it only generates the first section - Global items. When I run racoon-tool I get: # racoon-tool reload Loading SAD and SPD... SAD and SPD loaded. Configuring racoon...done.
