    MVPs are well known for their good heart (like the GeekGive initiative shows) and Client App Dev MVP Gregor Biswanger is no exception. At the latest MVP summit (beginning of March 2011), he took over a DVD about WPF 4 and Silverlight 4 and asked a few Microsoft superstars to sign it. Right now, the DVD is auctioned on eBay and of course the proceeds will go to a charitable work: The German League against Cancer (Deutsche Krebshilfe).     YouTube is the most popular video sharing site where you find videos shared by common users to big organizations sharing their training materials, demos and live casts. Lets an assume an organization wants to upload training/product demo videos to YouTube and embed them on their corporate website.  Would not it be nice if they can hide the YouTube logo from the embedded videos? Definitely Yes. To remove the YouTube logo you need to do a small change to the embed script before using it on your site. Add the flag modestbranding=1 as shown in the script below Here is a YouTube video embedded in this post without the logo. The catch is when logo is hidden the player shows text YouTube as a text overlay at top right corner when you hover the mouse. Hope Google will let us hide even that in the near future.     Am 14. Juni fand der Customer Experience Gipfel statt, der von Dialogum exklusiv für Oracle und seine Partner durchgeführt wurde. Dort konnten Partner und Endkunden über die Zukunft des Kundenmanagements diskutieren und erfuhren, was sich hinter dem Begriff „Customer Experience“ alles verbirgt. Die Konferenz begann mit einem Networking Dinner am Vorabend, an dem den 80 Teilnehmern in einer ersten Präsentation das Thema „Mobile Commerce“ vorgestellt wurde. Nach einem guten Abendessen hatten alle die Möglichkeit, auf einer Großleinwand beim EM-Spiel Deutschland gegen Holland mitzufiebern. Insgesamt war es ein sehr gelungener Abend, waren die deutschen Jungs doch siegreich und sicherten sich den Einzug ins Viertelfinale. Der Customer Experience Gipfel selbst hat dann alle Erwartungen übertroffen: 150 Teilnehmer, ein Drittel mehr als erwartet, zeigten großes Interesse an Multichannel-Strategien, Loyalty und wie man jeden einzelnen Schritt des Kunden im Kontakt mit dem Unternehmen zu einem positiven Kundenerlebnis werden lässt. So standen überwiegend Unternehmenspräsentationen aus den unterschiedlichen Branchen wie Telekommunikation, Handel oder Travel & Transportation auf dem Programm. Neun Round Tables, fast alle von den teilnehmenden Oracle Partnern moderiert, und 1:1-Gespräche rundeten die Konferenz ab. Und Zeit zum Networking blieb natürlich auch. Bei diesem Angebot war das Teilnehmer-Fazit demnach durchwegs positiv, vor allem sind die Kunden (und Partner) schon auf Oracle Customer Experience (CX) und die Vorteile für das eigene Kundenmanagement gespannt. Visiting Florence is always a pleasure, but having a chance to attend to such an interesting conference and to meet Marco Dal Pino, Paolo Patierno, Mirco Vanini and many other embedded developers made those two days an experience to be remembered. I did two sessions, one on Windows Embedded Standard and “PCs” usage in the embedded world and another one on Android for Embedded devices, you can find the slides on the better embedded website: www.betterembedded.it. You can also find slides for many other interesting session, ranging from the .NET microframework to Linux Embedded, from QT Quick to software licenses. Packing many different resources about embedded systems in a conference was not easy but the result is a very nice mix of contents ranging from firmware development to cloud-based systems. This is a great way to have an overview of what’s new or interesting in embedded systems and to get great ideas about how to build your new device.     OMG! All those Aliens stuff we saw in movies is not baseless. NASA scientists discovered that we are not all alone in this universe. Many other forms of life is distributed on the planets other than Earth. Aliens are real!! This astonishing claim comes from Dr. Richard Hoover, an astrobiologist at NASA, who says that he found solid evidence of alien life in the form of fossils of bacteria in an extremely rare class of meteorite.     Apple iPad broke many records and it was crowned as the fastest adopted digital device in the history. 2 million iPads were sold in two months and Apple fan boys are all happy with the news. Here comes some good news for Microsoft lovers – Microsoft’s Kinect is selling twice as fast as Apple iPads. In just 25 days after the launch, 2 million Kinects are sold across the globe – that means 100K Kinect sales per day. Very impressive! Kinect was originally released for XBox 360 gaming console but hackers and geeks are able to connect Kinect to Windows 7 PC to control computers using gestures. The possibilities Kinect usage in building natural user interfaces looks very promising. If this growth sustains after the festive season, Microsoft Kinect will displace iPad from the crown of fastest adopted digital device.   • 1.5 million Windows 7 phone’s sold…

    Microsoft announced that it has sold over 1.5 million windows 7 phone devices. Windows 7 is a new generation of OS. Mobile operators/users/device programmers need to adopt the same. Its not going to be a easy transition because it’s not an advanced/next version of win 6.x for mobile. We have heard that development from Microsoft side for Win 6.x devices will not continue after sometime. Don’t know how long will get the support! Everything in it s quite new, like OS, User interface, XBox sync, and also requires mobile phone companies to run the OS on high end chips, meaning atleast 1GHz. So the user segment occupied by phones like HTC Wild Fire are not the ones targeted.   Hey ! There an is a catch with this magic number 1.5 million…. It depicts only the number of units sold to mobile operators and retailers. It’s not the number of actual units held in consumers hands and activated. The number could improve significantly in 2011 where Sprint and Verizon join the party in United States. Atleast dozen phone models are in line up now in the rest of the world running Win 7 OS. One good things that customers can rejoice is that Microsoft will direly push software updates to all its consumers. Operator will not interfere. We can expect strong sales going forward with just this important point where Google’s Android lacks the same.   • Adaptive Case Management – Exposing the API – part 1 by Roger Goossens

    One of the most important building blocks of Adaptive Case Management is the ACM API. At one point or another you’re gonna need a way to get information (think about a list of stakeholders, available activities, milestones reached, etc.) out of the case. Since there’s no webservice available yet that exposes the internals of the case, your only option right now is the ACM API. ACM evangelist Niall Commiskey has put some samples online to give you a good feeling of the power of the ACM API. The examples show how you can access the API by means of RMI. You first need to obtain a BPMServiceClientFactory that gives access to the important services you’ll mostly be needing, i.e. the IBPMUserAuthenticationService (needed for obtaining a valid user context) and the ICaseService (the service that exposes all important case information).     The process scheduler in the Oracle Solaris kernel allocates CPU resources to processes. By default, the scheduler tries to give every process relatively equal access to the available CPUs. However, you might want to specify that certain processes be given more resources than others. That's where classes come in. A process class defines a scheduling policy for a set of processes.
