• How to refresh a folder's data in asp.net 2.0 using c#

  Again i rewrite my question with more details i.e. I am developing a website in Asp.net 2.0 in that i'm tracking the user's some details like their id,no of page hitted and time of hitting etc, in a LogfileDate(the LogfileDate contains whole day summary of all users) saved inside a folder(Folder is inside my project). And at another day when a new logfileDate created i want to mail the previous day Logfile and delete that file after sending. Everything happened but when It is going to delete its shows file is accessed by another process. So I need to refresh that folder after sending mail so that it got free with buffer. I'm not using IIS and i dont want it to use.

  Hi I want to create contact form with SSL. I have created simple asp.net contact form without ssl and now i must add it. It is in Sharrepoint project but seems to be the same case as in asp.net form. I have anonymous webapplication and won't be any login usecase, so whole webapplication must work via http:// but when user go to contact form, it must work via https:// I know how to do the redirect to https:// programatically, I've been searching how to configure SSL on IIS but it seems to not be the case?? I don't wont whole webappliation to work via https, only my contact form - how to do that and how o onfigure that? The data from my form will be passed to database, but it is not important here.

• Sitemap Links don't work on live site, Windows Authentication

  I have a intranet site with Windows Authentication. I have 'Administrator' pages in an 'Administrator' folder that will only show for those in the admin group (windows security group) These pages work I have a folder with sub folders containing reports. These permissions are broken down for each type of report. They have similar role priveleges. When I test the application, I can navigate to the pages. When I deploy the site live on the intranet the links don't return a page. Error missing link 404. Do I need to set something in IIS?

• App.config path not correctly interpreted by ASP.NET Application

  Hello everyone ! I'm working on a very old project (2000) in VB6 which was "modernized" and upgraded to VB.NET 3.5. I've centralized every old INI configuration file into one MainApp.config, which is referenced by the app.config of every component. There's an VB ASP.NET website in the solution, which uses DLL components, which are looking into app.config for parameters like, say, error log directory, etc. I've deployed the site on my dev. server (Windows 2008 Server w/ IIS 7.0) into the D:\WebSite\ directory. Problem: When running the site, an error occurs. A DLL is looking into app.config for the parameter RepertoireErreur which has the value .\Erreurs\ Instead of returning D:\WebSite\Erreurs\ it returns c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\.\Erreurs\ which doesn't contain the Erreurs directory. Boom. Error. Does anyone have ever encountered the same problem ? Is there a solution ? Thanks,

  in my asp.net MVC project i have an database connection with connectionstring: Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=dbname;Integrated Security=True All users can execute Stored Procedures on that connection and i want to log those users. so after each execution I store "User.Identity.Name" to another database. This work great on my development machine but after deployment, to access the site i have to go through a VPN-connention and then remote desktop to the same server that the IIS is running on and use a web-browser there. Then i get User.Identity.Name: "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE". i would expect it to be the credentials i entered in remote desktop that have access to the database. any idea how i can get this to work? iis6 authentication: "windows authentication: enabled" web.config:

  Is there a tool to see the message sent to webservice hosted on an IIS server? I have a webservice written in .Net and our ColdFusion people are having trouble building a "complex" parameter. This problem is described from a ColdFusion perspective at: adobe forum question It runs when called from a .net client. While hosted on a server inside our LAN, I put it out on a public server so the WSDL could be viewed: please take a quick look at this WSDL here When the CF developer runs her code, she gets: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch ...and I am wondering if there is a tool I could run on the server that hosts my webservice to see if it is even entering the WS or is being rejected by Java code that CF uses and is not really even getting to my webservice.

• Disk IO Performance Limitations based on numbers of folders/files

  I have an application where users are allowed to upload images to the server. Our Web Server is a windows 2008 server and we have a site (images.mysite.com) that points to a shared drive on a unix box. The code used to do the uploading is C# 3.5. The system currently supports a workflow where after a threshold is met a new subfolder can be generated. The question we have is how many files and/or subfolders can you have in a single folder before there is a degredation in performance - in serving the images up through IIS 7 and reading/writing through code?

• Magento "File was not uploaded"

  I'm currently using the magento admin interface, trying to upload an image in the "manage products" and I get the error "file was not uploaded" after I browse the file and click "upload file". I've looked on other forums and the main solution I saw were to make sure that php.ini has the following lines... magic_quotes_gpc = off short_open_tag = on extension=pdo.so extension=pdo_mysql.so I have Windows/IIS with ISAPI_Rewrite. Is there a max file upload size that I can change somewhere. I'm uploading pictures from my local desktop of size ~100kb. help!

• Which Subversion do I install for Windows?

  I was reading this article on Coding Horror: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2008/04/setting-up-subversion-on-windows.html I went to the downloads and am confused. I would have just downloaded the first entry but I am afraid it would break my server or something if I don't have apache. We use IIS only and I wouldn't want to break it somehow. I don't even need a web or webdav front end.   HI, We are developing a multi-tenant application in Asp.Net with separate DB for each tenant, in which one of the requirement is to monitor the bandwidth usage for each tenant, i have tried to search but not found much help on the topic,we want to monitor exactly how much bandwidth is being used for each tenant while each tenant can have its own top level domain or a sub domain or a combination of both. so what are the available options, the ones which i can think of can be 1. IIS Log Monitoring means a separate application which will calculate the bandwidth for each tenant. 2. Log Each Request and Response for a tenant from within the application and then calculate the total bandwidth usage based on that. 3. Use some third part components if available So what do you think will be the best approach, also if there is any other way to do this.

  I am shortly starting a project, which requires messages to be held in a queue for a period of 24 hours, this is because the database can't have any updates at certain times of the month. The service also has to be hosted on windows server 2003, which means it will have to be a windows service. It is also required that the service use WCF so that in 12 months time when we move over to windows server 2008, the service can hosted in iis 7. At present I am wondering if MSMQ is the best way to handle this. I've been looking into topics like poison message handling & dead letter queues, but nothing that really covers what I am intending to actually do.   I have an ASP.NET application, and am trying to output cache a certain page, however on every request, the debugger is still hitting the OnLoad method and I get a 200 response back. I have placed the output cache directive on a page like so: <%@ OutputCache Duration="60" VaryByParam="None" %> And ensured I have the OutputCache module <add name="OutputCache" type="System.Web.Caching.OutputCacheModule"/> And have also bypassed URL rewriting just in case. I have tried this using Cassini and IIS 5.1 (XP), however the page is not caching at all. Are there any other factors which I have not looked at which could affect this feature? Thanks

But then when I deploy the web api to IIS 7 and 7.5, in some cases, it crashes. • How to enable an AdventureWorks database in a web application?

  I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. I want the users to be able to select an Adventureworks table and then an input file. The user is then able to map columns from the file with the selected table. This app works fine now in VS. But when I Browse in IIS, it doesn't show any of the tables. I think this is because currently Adventureworks connection string is integrated security (Windows authentication). If I want users to be able to select a table, do I have to change connection to SQL Server authentication? And if so, is the only way to do this to reinstall SQL Server? Or can I just reinstall Adventureworks? And if I reinstall SQL Server, do I need to reinstall VS also for this to work? This could be painful...

• Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 issue

  Net 4.0 websites running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server using IIS 7.0. The websites allows Single Sign on via an encrypted token passed in a query string e.g. www.mywebsite.com?token=1159CE30A4ED1148E86D779AC7A1CF4DC75CCEC7213401D13CA181A2ED1C29A8. However, after installing Service Pack 1; SSO has stopped working and the website redirects to www.mywebsite.com. The redirect occurs before any code is hit. No idea what is causing this and any ideas would be much appreciated.

• Can I run multiple websites under a single membership database?

  Hi all, I'm trying to plan a series of websites that all share many of the resources such as css/jscript/images/content etc. For this reason I wanted to run all of the websites under the same application and IIS profile, but depending on the URL being used change the masterpage and theme/skin. The ASP.NET membership database seems as if it was designed with this goal in mind because it allows you to setup multiple applications, however I believe the purpose for which this was built was to allow applications to be run under virtual directories/fodlers, not on seperate urls.   I have two servers running IIS, say, Server-A and Server-B. Server-A is in the DMZ, visible to all users; Server-B is not in the DMZ. I need to provide a way for users to invoke a page on Server-A which will in turn remotely request a page on Server-B, transparently to the user. In other words, Server-A needs to do this on behalf of the user because the user does not have visibility to Server-B. Is this possible and if so, what is the best method to do this?

  hi, some bad legancy web application projects still have classic asp files. these project consist of 95% of classic .asp files and the rest only of asp.net (.aspx). if you right click on an .aspx file in the solution explorer of VS you can choose "view in browser" and "browse with...". however if i right click on an classic .asp file there, there is no such option! do you have any tip/hint/addin for me so that it will show these two context menu entries also for .asp files? i run all my projects in IIS not the build in casini web development server VS comes with! thanks, toebens

  Before explaining my problem let me tell you the Mercurial setup, We have the following repos, RELEASE DEVELOPMENT BUGFIX All the above repo are running on a central server using IIS and hgwebdir.cgi Now coming to the problem, I clone a local repo from DEVELOPMENT repo. I make changes to the clone and commit (Not push). I make a bundle from the clone and pass the bundle to QA who has cloned the RELEASE repo. Now I try to apply the bundle to the RELEASE repo clone using hg unbundle I get an error, abort: error: ftp error: no host given What am I doing wrong? Can you give solution to the above problem keeping a Windows setup in mind?

• Updating .net 4.0 machine.config seems to have no effect

  I'm feeling stupid. I've just created my first ASP.net 4.0 site after working my way though over the years from 1.1 upwards. We have several settings at the machine.config level that I need to migrate to the new 4.0 machine.config. I though I had be adding the required connection strings to the connection string section of the following two files: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\machine.config C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\machine.config When I created a new website in IIS and assigned it to the ASP.net 4.0 Application pool I only get the default LocalSqlServer connection string. I tried editing the name of this in the two files above to indicate which file it was in, but there was no change. Are there machine.config files in other locations I should be looking at?

• how to debug a WCF service once it's out of dev env

  hi, I have a WCF service that i've been able to communicate with fine while it's hosted locally. I have it deployed to a web server in IIS now, and I can get the wsdl file without error by navigating to http://site.com:8000/service/servicename.svc?wsdl in trying to test this, i've created a console app and was able to successfully add a service reference to this. But when I try to run a Get() method on the service reference, it just hangs with no response. How can I begin to debug this? Thanks!

• Overhead of serving pages - JSPs vs. PHP vs. ASPXs vs. C

  I am interested in writing my own internet ad server. I want to serve billions of impressions with as little hardware possible. Which server-side technologies are best suited for this task? I am asking about the relative overhead of serving my ad pages as either pages rendered by PHP, or Java, or .net, or coding Http responses directly in C and writing some multi-socket IO monster to serve requests (I assume this one wins, but if my assumption is wrong, that would actually be most interesting). Obviously all the most efficient optimizations are done at the algorithm level, but I figure there has got to be some speed differences at the end of the day that makes one method of serving ads better than another. How much overhead does something like apache or IIS introduce? There's got to be a ton of extra junk in there I don't need. At some point I guess this is more a question of which platform/language combo is best suited - please excuse the in-adroitly posed question, hopefully you understand what I am trying to get at.

• Is it possible to have a .NET route that maps to the same place as a directory?

  I'm building a CMS using WebForms on .NET 4.0 and have the following route that allows URLs like www.mysite.com/about to be mapped to the Page.aspx page, which looks up the dynamic content. routes.MapPageRoute("page", "{name}", "~/Page.aspx"); The problem is that I have a couple of folders in my project that are interfering with possible URLs. For example, I have a folder called "blog" where I store pages related to handling blog functionality, but if someone creates a page for their site called "blog" then navigating to www.mysite.com/blog gets the following error: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Other similar URLs route correctly, but I think because .NET is identifying /blog as a physical location on the server it is denying directory access. Is there a way to tell IIS / .NET to only look for physical files instead of files and folders?

  I'd like to do visitor tracking similar to how stackoverflow does it.. By reading through numerous posts, I've figured out some details already: Count only 1 IP hit per 15 minutes (if anonymous) Count only 1 unique user-Login (per day?) Now that leaves the question of the real implementation.. Should I log the two factors live into a table (and increase count) | IP | timestamp | pageurl | Or do the counting AFTERWARDS (e.g. using IIS log files - which don't include the user, right? I know there're some similar posts outside, but NONE really has a great solution in my opinion yet..
