  • Automatically backing up a file to another server?

    I have a backup created of my mysql database (vbulletin forum v3.8) everyday. It's about 360mb in size. It's stored as one text file in a secure folder. I'm thinking of getting another server, through a different host, and somehow automatically transferring the backup to my second server every day. Any ideas on how I could automate this process? I'm thinking PHP and a cron job.

  • Using Hudson to build RPM packages.

    I've a C project set up in Hudson doing nighly builds, i've also an .rpm spec file used for creating rpms from these sources. Does anyone have any experience on how to build rpms out of all this using Hudson ? Right now the only solution I see is to set up a job running a script that checks svn exports the sources ,creates a tarball and does the whole rpm build. This doesn't seem to integrate well with Hudson - e.g. how do I collect the artifacts ?

  • Regex to repeat a capture across a CDL?

    I have some data in this form: @"Managers Alice, Bob, Charlie Supervisors Don, Edward, Francis" I need a flat output like this: @"Managers Alice Managers Bob Managers Charlie Supervisors Don Supervisors Edward Supervisors Francis" The actual "job title" above could be any single word, there's no discrete list to work from. Replacing the ,  with \r\n is easy enough, as is the first replacement: Replace (^|\r\n)(\S+\s)([^,\r\n]*),\s With $1$2$3\r\n$2 But capturing the other names and applying the same prefix is what is eluding me today. Any suggestions?

    My boyfriend does coding (Rails/C?/PHP) for a job and I don't know what he would appreciate on our first anniversary. Does anyone have any ideas? Yes, he's stereotypical geek, but I'd rather not give a pack of Bawls for an anniversary gift. He dislikes going anywhere, so "experiences" like going to an event are out. Maybe I should just have a giant LAN party in the house.

    There's a web services I want to call in my application, I can use it with importing the WSDL or by just use "HTTP GET" with the URL and parameters, so I prefer the later because it's simple thing. I know I can use indy idhttp.get, to do the job, but this is very simple thing and I don't want to add complex indy code to my application. UPDATE: sorry if I was not clear, I meant by "not to add complex indy code", that I don't want add indy components for just this simple task, and prefer more lighter way for that.

  • Networking Home Office

    I'm in the process of building an office in my garden. It's about 25m away from my house. I'd like to run a wired network connection to the office. I'd rather not go down the powerline route, as speeds don't seem great, and I'm likely to want to be moving a lot of data around on the internal network. I have an electrician who is running armoured electrical cable to the office, and is providing conduit for me to run network cable. My questions are: 1) What type of cable to run 2) How I terminate/connect it at both ends I could get something like armoured cat6 utp solid core (like this: http://www.netstoredirect.com/cat6-cable/289166-external-armoured-cat6-utp-solid-cable-price-per-metre.html) which seems fairly robust, but then I have to terminate it. Additionally, where the cable enters my house, there is about another 15m to where my router is situated. I also read this artice: http://www.audioholics.com/audio-video-cables/bjc-cat-network-cable-quality-interview which scared me into realising I don't know what I'm doing!! particularly with termination. Or I could get an "cat6 external patch cable" (e.g http://www.netstoredirect.com/rj45-network-cables/239231-external-cat6-utp-ldpe-rj45-patch-leads.html) and run that in the conduit, and work out how to terminate it at the house end. At the office end I guess I can just plug it into a switch. Any help? Thanks

  • Why does Celery work in Python shell, but not in my Django views? (import problem)

    I installed Celery (latest stable version.) I have a directory called /home/myuser/fable/jobs. Inside this directory, I have a file called tasks.py: from celery.decorators import task from celery.task import Task class Submitter(Task): def run(self, post, **kwargs): return "Yes, it works!!!!!!" Inside this directory, I also have a file called celeryconfig.py: BROKER_HOST = "localhost" BROKER_PORT = 5672 BROKER_USER = "abc" BROKER_PASSWORD = "xyz" BROKER_VHOST = "fablemq" CELERY_RESULT_BACKEND = "amqp" CELERY_IMPORTS = ("tasks", ) In my /etc/profile, I have these set as my PYTHONPATH: PYTHONPATH=/home/myuser/fable:/home/myuser/fable/jobs So I run my Celery worker using the console ($ celeryd --loglevel=INFO), and I try it out. I open the Python console and import the tasks. So far the backups looks consistent. But I am afraid they "will stop being consistent as soon as I stop checking" (Uncertainty principle).   • Howcan I get started with Spring Batch?

    I'm trying to learn Spring Batch, but the startup guide is very confusing. Comments like You can get a pretty good idea about how to set up a job by examining the unit tests in the org.springframework.batch.sample package (in src/main/java) and the configuration in src/main/resources/jobs. aren't exactly helpful. Also I find the Sample project very complicated (17 non-empty Namespaces with 109 classes)! Is there a simpler place to get started with Spring Batch?

    Can someone please help as i've spent all day trying to fix this. I installed the latest XAMPP and now i can't connect to mysql from terminal.I checked my .profile file and the PATH seems ok.   • Offline product catalog

    I am looking for a way to automate the production of an offline product catalog using product data contained in an SQL Server database. I have thought about using both Crystal Reports and SQL Server Reporting Services for this but there may be something better suited for the job. There is a requirement to display product images also (currently stored in the database). I thought about perhaps doing a simple Word Mail Merge for this but am not sure how I will handle images. I have found plugins for Twitter, plugins for Facebook, plugins for OpenID.. but I'm afraid integration of all thos plugins will be tough.   • What parts of this book are outdated? "Design of the UNIX Operating System" by Maurice Bach, 1986

    I learned programming on the job via high-level languages. I'm trying to gain a better understanding of the lower-level workings of computing and picked up "Design of the UNIX Operating System" by Maurice Bach. What do I need to know in terms of which topics in this book may not be relevant to understanding Linux nuts and bolts? Is there a newer book or Linux-specific book that I should read instead? I really like the clarity of this particular book, though.
